oh hey, I got a spark question: does she have any relationships to or opinions on any other characters that haven't been mentioned yet?
OOOH OKAY!! THIS IS A VERY LOVELY QUESTION!!
okay so, despite having fought duck shuffler SO many times (about...7-10 times now) she actually thinks he's pretty cool! they're both silly guys so why not ey?? i like to imagine they've visited a few times and just had game night or placed bets using buck's slot machine face!
deep diver....they're neutral, spark's (platonic) love for her is kinda one sided though...they don't really interact much, besides from spark's occasional break in to some unimportant meetings or whatever, but i imagine spark would love to see whatever pretty sea stuff deep diver would show her!
Gatekeeper.......honestly? At first Spark didn't like her at all but they've probably became good with eachother over their hatred for prester.
Firestarter.... well, Spark would really like to talk to him yknow, because like. arson man. nothing noteworthy besides that though!
treekiller. well...they haven't really interacted...but Spark doesn't like him. at all. the only thing keeping her from hating him is the fact that chip is besties with spruce, and spark likes chip, soo...
Rainmaker! Spark likes her a lot, but I imagine spark is probably a bit. too much for her sometimes. so they dont really hang out but are on good terms methinks! also spark fucking hates barnacle bessie for what she did to rainmaker.
Prethinker, Plutocrat, and especially Witch Hunter.. she hates them. so much. Prethinker is an annoyance with how ""smart"" he is, Plutocrat is just. ugh. stinky short man. witch hunter. holy fucking shit spark hates him. absolute despisement. she wants his ass fucking DEAD.
Pacesetter. oh my cog. Pacesetter gotta be one of spark's favorites. She's probably tried to become a member of the pace place several times! has she succeeded? ..i duno
and last but not least.....
Major Player and High Roller. DO NOT GET ME STARTED DUDE SPARK FUCKING LOVES THEM. (except when major playor pulls a mariah carey as soon as its november 1st) dude has def attended all of their shows (when possible). she vibrates in her seat when she hears high rollers back in town bro

Pandemonium vs Kazuchika Okada
The Rainmaker had refused to answer questions about what he was doing in MPW and what his beef was the Iron Heart. He took every pomp and circumstance he could as he walked down to the ring, full robe and all. A shit eating grin on his face.
To say Pandemonium was upset was an understatement, she had had the Stardust Title won it belonged to her, she had tapped the American Dragon out twice, but it was all for not as she stood at the top of the ramp without gold. She did have a small nod to someone though proving she was a student of the game, black and red body suit clung to her frame, hair braided on one side to mimic a shaved side part. Channeling a man who had Okada’s number on more than one occasion. Right away Pandemonium charged for him, but it was the referee who kept her apart from Okada who just stood there, her middle finger up at him. Before she was backed into the corner.
Okada wasn’t shaken by her rage attempting to lock up with her, Pandemonium’s rage cooling as she started to grapple with the Rainmaker, Okada was playing into her game of a very technical background, but it was Pandemonium proving to him that she was the MPW Technical Wrestler of the year for 3 years in a row for a reason. Pandemonium now coming back at him, wrist control, allowing Okada to think that he could have an ounce of control. But Pandemonium takes control of the head, she’s starting to fall back into the mindset of a wrestler. Which might have been the only thing that keeps Okada alive, because there’s a list of people who have seen what happens when Pandemonium slips into a more feral mindset, and they’d all take the more wrestler-based mindset.
The two of them ending up in the ropes Okada poised to chop the shit out of her slightly exposed chest, but he stops as she braces herself, Okada taking a step back giving her chest a little pat, and at that point Pandemonium pushes off the ropes to strike him. It’s the first real strike as her elbow drilling into the side of Okada’s neck. Okada grabbing her wrist and throwing her into the ropes looking for a drop kick but Pan holds on and the pool is empty. Pandemonium looking for a roundhouse kick has Okada telegraphing it before wrapping his arms around her waist but Pandemonium slides through and attempts a clothesline which Okada ducks. With wrestlers are now on opposite sides of the ring.
This is nothing but a proving ground, Okada had never been in the ring with just her, he ended her first Clusterfuck dreams years ago, but she’d grown by leaps and bounds since then. Again the two lock up and it’s Pandemonium making the first move, going for the Rainmaker’s leg before coming around his back and wrapping her arms around his waist. Okada’a leg now the focus, as she captures it twisting and trying to take the knee out of socket. Pandemonium letting him up and Okada runs for it. Pandemonium following behind him, her knee drilling into the stomach of Okada but he’s quick to use his height after sending her into the barricade dropkicking her in the back sending her over. Okada on the attack now quickly sets up her dropping her with a ddt onto the hard ground below. Pandemonium being sent into a heap holding her head agony all over her face.
Okada crawling back into the ring and allowing the count to start, he has no honor and doesn’t mind winning via a count out.

5…
Pandemoinum is back to her feet, trying to get her neck back in the right position.
6…
7…
8…
9…
Pandemonium must have been knocked a little loopier then she thought as she hears the count of nine and she runs into the ring before really checking on where Okada is, who quickly takes her. Crossing her arms over her neck and forcing her to the ground knee on her back to pull. Pandemonium crying out in pain, ring aware awareness and long legs get her to the ropes forcing Okada to break but he’s not pleased. Bringing her into the corner he does chop her now before throwing his entire body into her. Pandemonium is dazed.
This seems like just another match for Okada, not caring, unaware Pan is rallying in the corner. Grabbing her by the hair Pandemonium is back up and she slugs him in the stomach coming back to life but it’s short lived as Okada scoops her up and slams her down going to the ropes he springs over dropping his body weight down on her. Pan’s fight seems to be fading as Okada snaps her back down setting her up to run into her with a baseball slide.
Pandemonium seems very out of it, but she’s playing possum! As Okada comes to her again she kicks him right in the face. Okada is dazed and Pandemonium is on the attack now as he rolls out of the ring, it’s her turn to send him into the barricade, her knee quickly slamming into his face as he’s draped over the metal.
Pandemonium now back in the ring she can recover well the count starts on Okada.

6…
7….
Okada rolls back into the ring and Pandemonium takes the boots to him forcing him to the corner. Her knee is being used as a major weapon as she takes him to the center of the ring driving it into him. Pandemonium going airborne with a missile dropkick as Okada stands and Pandemonium makes the first pin attempt of the match.
1…
2…
Okada kicks out and Pandemonium sets him up attempting to suplex him but Okada blocks sending shots her way but this time Pandemonium returns them until she’s scooped up and dropped back down with a slam
Okada and Pandemonium on opposite corners as Okada again brings his body against her slamming her to the mat. This time Okada goes for the pin.
1..
2…
Pandemonium kicks out, and Okada is right back on her using his size and strength advantage to manhandle her. This is not anything she’s not used to, Okada going to the ropes Pandemonium ducks and turns with a knee to his mid-section. Okada down but Pandemonium is back to her feet. Again going for a roundhouse kick which Okada grabs her leg and but Pandemonium is able to clock him with her other leg. Pandemonium attempts to slam him, but she can’t, and Okada muscling her back up brings her down neck first on his knee. Okada is once again in control grabbing her head and again bring him up over his shoulder dropping her again before pinning her.
1…
2…
Pandemonium stays alive her shoulder coming up, and Okada bringing her back up to his feet. He’s just going rapid fire on her, but Pandemonium slides through another kick to the back of Okada’s head, before bringing her knees up to his back bringing him down with a Lung Blower, grabbing him by his tights, she brings him back before snapping him down with a quick suplex. Okada is rocked and Pandemonium is back to her feet.
Sizing him up she looks like she going for a busaiku knee but Okada sees it coming Pandemonium is able to stop herself perching herself on the ropes. Bringing both her knees to Okada’s chest from the top rope. Pandemonium won’t die at the corner of the ring she’s waiting, and Okada captures her taking her leg down trying to us her momentum for his own gain. Pinning her.
1…
Pan kicks out quickly, Okada picking her up puts her on the turnbuckle before drop kicking her to the floor below. Pandemonium against lays motionless and Okada comes to see her, holding his chest, as he grabs her with one hand setting her up for a PILEDRIVER on the outside!
Pan isn’t moving, but Okada is running on empty.
1…
2….
3….
The count starts but Okada is quick to get into the ring.
4….
5….
6…
Pandemonium isn’t moving.
7…
8…
9….
Okada says not like this and he rolls out of the ring to grab her, bringing her to the center as he takes the ropes. On the top rope he gets himself prime as he drops into the heart of the Iron Heart. The entire crowd wants Okada’s head, as he taunts them, Pandemonium doesn’t know where she is. He’s looking for the Rainmaker, grabbing her wrist setting up for the ripcord, but Pandemonium wakes up in the nick of time, arm captured she spins and brings her leg up to Okada’s face. Okada trying to hold onto her bring her into a backslide but Pandemonium quickly rolls bringing her foot up for a pele kick.
Okada is down but so is Pandemonium. Jelly legged the two warriors meet in the middle of the ring slugging it out with one another but they’re tired exhausted. Okada seems to have Pandemonium nearly down but she won’t go down, Okada is punching himself out and Pandemonium has to take it. Until he’s exhausted that’s when she brings her heel down on his back with an axe kick. Against the ropes she comes running through hitting him with Kracken Krusher. Pinning him quickly.
1…
2…
Okada kicks out! Pandemonium doesn’t seem shocked though she knows what kind of wrestler Okada is and she can’t lose focus. Pandemonium again taking him for exploder, again pinning him.
1…
2..
Okada kicks out again, and Pandemonium has to hold onto feeling, backing to the ropes what is she going for? Is she looking for Law of Return? She walks right into Okada’s impressive drop kick though. Again, Okada is looking for the Rainmaker. Pandemonium counters it. Her knee into Okada’s face. Again Okada keeps looking for the Rainmaker and he hits it now flush on Pandemonium pinning her that’s it!
1…
2…
Pandemonium kicks out and Okada is furious grabbing her again it looks like he’s going for the Rainmaker again! But Pandemonium’s got the arm twisting, Okada thinking on his feet hits her with the second piledriver of the evening, but Pan fueled by adrenaline is right up on her feet. Okada again grabs her looking for the Rainmaker, but Pandemonium wraps her body around him, her entire body wrapped around his arm her legs around his head and neck. It’s the Necktie it’s a triangle hold! And she’s got it locked in she is not letting go, Okada trying to muscle her up, but Pandemonium has him. She won’t let go; she’s going to break Okada’s arm if he doesn’t tap, Okada trying to flip his body but trying to find some kind of way out but he can’t. Okada has no choice but to TAP OUT.
The bell rings! And that’s when Pandemonium lets go, Cobra playing she knows she won.
Here is your winner! THE IRON HEART, PANDEMONIUM.
Pandemonium, MPW’s best kept secret has just beat Okada one of the best wrestlers in the world. Looking down at him she offers her hand to him, a sign of respect.

round up // NOVEMBER 23 + DECEMBER 23 + JANUARY 24: CROWD vs. CRITIC vs. CHRISTMAS!
November and December push me to the limit—how many movies can I fit in before the end of the calendar year? In 2023 (plus a few bonus days), the answer was more than 130 new releases. And who wants to skip all of their favorite Christmas movies? Because I extend my holiday viewing into January, I fit in almost 90 this year, adding a few more to my all-time must-watch list. Once the Oscar noms were announced, I was already back to my usual shenanigans and had watched my 400th unique movie on Turner Classic Movies. Whether these statistics are cool or pathetic (erm, don’t tell me), I’m grateful for the slowness of Dump-uary and the depth that comes with thinking about the same Oscar-nominated films for several weeks. (Too bad we need to revisit Melissa Villaseñor’s Oscars snub song from SNL.)
To help sum up these three packed months, I’m resurrecting Crowd vs. Critic vs. Christmas: five crowd-pleasers, five critic picks, and five Christmas treats. Who says you can’t make these holiday recommendations part of your February entertainment?
Holiday Crowd-Pleasers
youtube
1. SNL Round Up
Studio 8H is making up for lost time after those strikes:
“Question Quest” (4906 with Emma Stone)
“Beep Beep” (4907 with Adam Driver) - #SoMidwest
“Weekend Update: Chloe Fineman’s Save the Last Dance Holiday Gift” (4907)
“Tiny A** Bag” (4907)
“Christmas Awards Cold Open” (4908 with Kate McKinnon)
"North Pole News: Killer Whale Attack” (4908)
“ABBA Christmas” (4908)
“Yankee Swap” (4908)
“Please Don't Destroy - Roast” (4910 with Dakota Johnson) - As one who still has yet to understand the appeal of the PDD guys, this resonated with me
“The Barry Gibb Talk Show: 2024 Election” (4910)
“Weekend Update: A Guy Named Ethan on the 2024 Oscars Snubs” (4910) - I am...probably only a few years away from turning into Ethan?
2. Triple Feature - Big City Crime Thrillers: No Way Out (1987) + Cop Land (1997) + Widows (2018)
The stars aligned on all of these! In No Way Out (Crowd: 9/10 // Critic: 8/10), Kevin Costner is assigned to investigate the murder of his secret lover (Sean Young) in Washington D.C. The twist? The person who assigned him the case was also her lover, Secretary of Defense Gene Hackman. In Cop Land (9/10 // 7.5/10), Sylvester Stallone sheriffs a New Jersey town that houses a corrupt batch of New York City cops (including Harvey Keitel, Ray Liotta, and Robert Patrick) that Robert De Niro is investigating. In Widows (8.5/10 // 8.5/10), Viola Davis, Elizabeth Debicki, Cynthia Erivo, and Michelle Rodriguez are completing the heist that killed their husbands (including Liam Neeson) in a corrupt Chicago run by Robert Duvall, Colin Farrell, Brian Tyree Henry, and Daniel Kaluuya. All are twisty, gritty, and thrilling.
3. Godzilla Minus One (2023)
Oh no, there goes Tokyo—but at least it’s going to a spectacle as fun and well-crafted as this one. Crowd: 8.5/10 // Critic: 7/10
4. Double Feature - ‘90s Matt Damon Dramas: School Ties (1992) + The Rainmaker (1997)
Because Matt Damon has always been good! Though he’s not always been the good guy: In School Ties (Crowd: 8.5/10 // Critic: 8.5/10), Brendan Fraser must hide his Jewish identity to survive at a prep school in the ‘50s, and bullies like Damon are who he’s most afraid of. In The Rainmaker (9/10 // 8.5/10), Damon is the good guy as a baby-faced lawyer who wants to protect Claire Danes, Teresa Wright, and Mary Kay Place from villains like slick lawyer Jon Voight. Here’s hoping Damon has another coming-of-age movie (as a teacher) and legal thriller in his future.
5. The Jerk (1979)
Not every moment of this movie would fly if made today, but Steve Martin’s episodic adventures in his first journey away from home gave me some of my biggest laughs in months. Crowd: 9.5/10 // Critic: 8/10
More Holiday Crowd-Pleasers: Three Men and a Little Lady (1990) reminds us how much fun it is to let three charismatic movie stars (Ted Danson, Steve Guttenberg, and Tom Selleck) cook // The Mrs. Doubtfire National Tour is fluffy fun // Maggie Moore(s) (2023) is a true crime story that makes me wish Tina Fey and Jon Hamm could become the new Myrna Loy and William Powell // Quiz Lady (2023) lets Will Ferrell live out his Alex Trebek dreams // John Mulaney in Concert Tour is making me count down till his next special is released to get memes about his grandfather, his bus driver, and his son // Reacher Season 2 is the perfect action show to watch with my dad // I’m not sure if Man of the Year (2006) was prescient about the future of politics or if it just understood human nature well enough to anticipate the populist movement and election fraud conversations we’re having today, but this Robin-Williams-as-Jon-Stewart comedy is underrated // The real-world implications of V for Vendetta (2005) are…confusing, but this literary-inspired adventure is still thrilling // Desperado (1995) is an over-the-top, shoot-'em-up Western
Holiday Critic Picks
1. The Best of 2023
2023: a year of products, greed, put-upon employees, and artificial intelligence—and not just in the actors’ and writers’ strikes! It was also a great year for movies, which is why I couldn’t narrow down my list to just 10. Read my top 10 picks for 2023 movies, as well as 28 honorable mentions at ZekeFilm, and then check out the accompanying list on Letterboxd.
I also dug deeper into some of the films mentioned in my Best of 2023 in these reviews:
The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes - ZekeFilm review
Maestro - ZekeFilm review
Priscilla - ZekeFilm review, KMOV review, Do You Like Apples discussion, updated Letterboxd Sofia Coppola rankings
2. Double Feature - New Baseball Documentaries: It Ain’t Over (2022) + The League (2023)
I am not a Yankees fan, so who would have guessed that the Yogi Berra documentary It Ain’t Over (Crowd: 8/10 // Critic: 8.5/10) would make me cry? And my baseball history knowledge always has room for improvement, so The League (8/10 // 9/10) is a phenomenal fix to many of my blind spots. Both are now inducted in my Baseball Movie Hall of Fame.
3. Triple Billing - Come From Away + Tina: The Tina Turner Musical + Funny Girl National Tours
Looking for a true story turned into an excellent musical? Try Come From Away, which captures the chaos of flights rerouted on 9/11 with the pathos you expect (and the comedy you don’t). Or try Tina: The Tina Turner Musical, which is one of the best—if not the best—jukebox musical I’ve seen because the songs are integrated into the story instead of just as a musical revue of a a well-known career. Or catch Funny Girl, which captures comedienne Fanny Brice’s life with the help of a powerhouse singer channeling Barbra Streisand’s powers. Better yet, I recommend not skipping any of them when they come to town if you can swing it.
4. Happiness Falls by Angie Kim (2023)
What do you do when your dad goes missing in the middle of a global pandemic and the only one who was with him when he disappeared is your non-verbal brother? That’s the central mystery of Angie Kim’s latest novel. Instead of an edge-of-your-seat-thriller, it’s a story that propels us forward with the questions that plague its characters.
5. Hollywood Victory: The Movies, Stars, and Stories of World War II by Christian Blauvelt (2021)
The Turner Classic Movies Library has yet to miss. Hollywood Victory doesn’t just provide an in-depth overview of Hollywood from 1933 to 1945. It’s an exploration of Hollywood’s inextricable relationship with American politics, its contributions that helped the Allies win the war, and a unusual but informative lens of movies and the war itself. It’s also a long set of additions to my watchlist—of the 260+ films referenced, I’ve only seen a quarter. Thank goodness for TCM and a DVR with unlimited space!
More Holiday Critic Picks: American Symphony, Chevalier, Fallen Leaves, Freud’s Last Session, and Master Gardener were all films in consideration for my Best of 2023 // Wes Anderson’s Roald Dahl short film adaptations Poison, The Rat Catcher, The Swan, and The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar (2023) are bite-sized, beautifully manicured delights // Debbie Reynolds paves the way the way for Kathy Bates’s Titanic role with her charismatic starring piece in the musical The Unsinkable Molly Brown (1964) // Barbara Stanwyck is wonderful as always in the melodrama All I Desire (1953) // Hail the Conquering Hero (1944) is filled with some of Preston Sturges’s most fun mixups and hijinks
Holiday Treats
youtube
1. Ken The EP by Ryan Gosling and Mark Ronson
I don’t care if these are barely Christmas songs—let’s give Ryan Gosling seasonal updates of “I’m Just Ken” for all of 2024!
2. Mixed Nuts (1994)
Hot take: Steve Martin has not been in enough rom-coms. A kookier—but nonetheless delightful—brand of Nora Ephron stars Martin and Rita Wilson as co-workers at a crisis hotline who are clearly meant for each other. If only they—and Madeline Kahn, Juliette Lewis, Adam Sandler, Liev Schreiber, and Garry Shandling— could get out of their own way. Crowd: 7.5/10 // Critic: 6.5/10
3. Fitzwilly (1967)
Christmas Ocean’s Eleven! Dick Van Dyke is as charming as ever and the vibes are as ‘60s as ever as he tries to pull off a heist at Gimbels on Christmas Eve. Crowd: 8.5/10 // Critic: 8/10
4. Metropolitan (1990)
Before Chris Eigeman was Jason Stiles on Gilmore Girls, he was essentially playing the same character in Whit Stillman’s comedy riff on The Great Gatsby. A young, bougie group is attempting to survive debutante season (also the Christmas season), debating the pros and cons of wealth and falling in and out of romance. Crowd: 8/10 // Critic: 9/10
5. The Miracle of Morgan’s Creek (1944)
Hollywood Victory informed me I’m not the only who can’t believe this was allowed to play for audiences in 1944! Betty Hutton marries a soldier on a whim, but the next morning she can’t remember which one. Her BFF with an unrequited crush (Eddie Bracken) is the only one who can help her figure out who her husband—and the father of her child—is before the scandal gets out and destroys her reputation. Because this is a Preston Sturges feature, it’s actually a hilarious quest. Crowd: 8.5/10 // Critic: 9/10
More Christmas Treats: Klaus (2019) is a hidden gem on Netflix // Okay, the ick factor in Susan Slept Here (1954) is real, but Dick Powell and Debbie Reynolds are just so darn charming! // 8-Bit Christmas (2021) is a better-than-it-needed-to-be update of A Christmas Story featuring a Nintendo instead of a BB gun // How did I never see Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992) all the way through before this year? Once I realized I’d missed some scenes in my umpteen cable watches over the years, it shot up on my John Hughes rankings // Pocketful of Miracles (1961) is a delightful Cinderella tale that proves Bette Davis always had it
Also this Holiday Season…
I reviewed even more new movies, including Next Goal Wins (ZekeFilm), The Marvels (KMOV), and the new Mean Girls musical (ZekeFilm)
The St. Louis Film Critics Association nominated and voted on our Best of 2023 films. You can see every winner and every film we nominated on Letterboxd, and you can read my summary of how I voted here on Crowd vs. Critic. Keep scrolling if you’re on the home page to my last post, or read it here.

Happy New Years Everyone!! 🎉
It’s the start of a new year. I don’t like making New Year’s resolutions because I can never stick to one thing at a time, especially for an entire year. However, I think I’ll continue to focus on my mental health and continue making personal achievements.
This year has been a really good year for me, especially mentally. A few highlights from 2023:
1. Started a YouTube channel:
* I still have no plans to grow my channel. It’s just something to do for fun. I’m hoping to get better at editing and making my content better.
2. I finally got my driver’s license and made a few small road trips around my home state this past summer
3. Went to Fan Expo in Boston with my friend.
* While at Fan Expo I met the voice actress that voiced the original Dora. The meet and greet was fun, but no one cared about Dora. Basically, Peter Cullen, who voiced Optimus Prime, was about two tables over and his line was backed up. There were a few people who passed by and would excitedly make a comment about “oh it’s Dora!”, but the people would just continue walking by to get in line for Peter Cullen. Overall, Dora wasn’t in a good location. She was placed next to three big names; Richard Horvitz, Brandon Rogers, and Peter Cullen. (I might upload the video that I took in a different post to show the line difference)
4. Got back into re-exploring and trying to write my OC’s:
* Even though there was an attempt at writing something down; I just never finish writing. I’m still not sure if it’s me not liking my writing or if it’s just ADHD procrastination.
* I still enjoy my rather large fictional world and characters, but as an autistic bean I just struggle to get what’s going on inside my head down on paper. My friend sat and read through several lengthy phone texts last last year (2022) that were just about each character, and she introduced me to picrew to at least provide a visual for a few characters.
+I have Pinterest. Maybe I’ll start an OC board for each character to show their likes and such. It’ll definitely provide more options for characters compared to picrew. Also, hoping to cosplay a few characters on my YouTube channel, but that’s still up in the air.
5. Made a Tumblr account:
* I sent a few Ask Questions to some people on Tumblr and even left a comment on other people’s posts…although a few Ask were sent anonymously, and pre-written several times on my phone notes before committing to sending. But with my mild social anxiety, it’s a big step for me, so I’m counting it as a small achievement.
* I even made two mutuals on Tumblr, which are my first two official mutuals, besides my two friends that are on Tumblr. Hopefully, I can make more mutuals on Tumblr. I’m really enjoying meeting people outside the small town that I live in.
6. I also made friends with my friend’s cousin. (Having two Filipino friends, they like throwing parties and hosting. Which is fun, but karaoke is still not an option if you go, even if it’s just three people at the party)
7. I also had a great year in Splatoon. I’m still mostly playing Turf War, and occasionally play anarchy splat zones. Maybe this year I’ll try the other anarchy modes. The other anarchy modes seem pretty straight forward; rainmaker is really the only confusing one.
* I’m still kinda playing Splatoon solo. My friend left me for TF2, and the digital friends that I made through Splatoon mostly only play turf war, and Salmon Run. There’s no way of communicating, so I feel nervous joining anyone during turf war because I don’t know if they already have friends playing, especially if they make a room.
* December was my first time playing some Salmon Run alone. People are much more friendlier and more welcoming than I allow myself to think; both on Splatoon and Tumblr. The team that I was randomly assigned to would just vibe while we all waited for each new round
* I have a personal record in splat zones that I haven’t been able to break since March. My team did lose unfortunately

FINDING MY FEET
Following on from my first entry, when I spoke of how settling into the cultures of both organisations really helped settle my nerves, it also allowed me to feel comfortable and complete early tasks to the best of my ability, really from the get-go.
An early task I was given was to take on and assist with the pre-show production of the popular digital show ‘The Adelaide Footy League Weekly Highlight’ at Rainmaker. The show is a short 7–10-minute panel show with a host and a guest who joins via Zoom, highlighting a week by that guest’s club in the Adelaide Footy League. I was so comfortable and so well welcomed and nurtured in that I actually made graphics and wrote up questions for the talent on my first day. This was due to the great induction and explanation I received from Darcy who made it incredibly simple to understand and get going, he showed me the ins and outs of the show and the task, so my nerves almost totally disappeared.

As I got more comfortable and competent, the support didn’t change which to me was absolutely vital, regardless of what task I was undertaking every team member at both organisations always made sure they were there to give advice, answer questions, show examples or just help out. Alas and Vadi (2016) found that, in companies or organisations that are frequented by alterations, success is heavily dependent on the given organisation’s culture. A good workplace culture in this sense, as I’ve been alluding to, is one that is supportive. A supportive workplace culture can be defined as “a work environment that is: trusting and collaborative; prioritizes safety and teamwork; management is supportive and encouraging; and involves employees in decision-making” (Ellis et al., 2023). Both Rainmaker and Motorsport Australia optimise this in terms of their organisational cultures which really suited me, as someone who works best in environments that challenge but support me, which is exactly what they both did in differing ways, especially across my first 40 hours.
For example, by the 40-hour mark, I was singlehandedly putting together all of the necessary graphics, information and rundowns for the Adelaide Footy League show at Rainmaker. I'd also written numerous articles and uploaded calendars for Motorsport Aus’ monthly publication ‘SpeedRead’, and even tried my hand at some graphics there too.

7 Questions* for Gregory Little, Senior Vice President, Content @RainmakerEnt.
Don’t let the picture fool you, Greg Little’s an easy going guy.
As some of you probably know, Frederator combined late last year with a couple of companies to form WOW! Unlimited, and we instantly became a companion company to Rainmaker Entertainment, Vancouver, one of the world’s leading animation studios. I thought you might want to meet some of our new colleagues.
Gregory Little is based in Burbank, California, alongside the Frederator Studios team, where he runs Rainmaker’s creative development, content strategy and sales, including the development of business strategies that take advantage of emerging platforms and new distribution models. As you can tell he is one busy MF. Like I say up above, he’s a great guy with an easygoing manner. Greg’s got his antennae up across the global animation biz, and if you want to know anything about anything, you could do worse than starting at his office.
As you’ll read, Greg was a UCLA English major (I’ve been telling animators for years that taking more English classes –literature and creative writing– is the fastest way to learning to making a good show) which has prepared him well in his cartoon sojourns. He started out in live action development, and had his first Rainmaker run with his development and production of Escape from Planet Earth, before stints at Brown Bag and the Gotham Group. He’s been back at Rainmaker for over a year now, and we’re lucky to have him as a colleague.
1 You've had an interesting path into our industry. Tell us about that.
It’s not that interesting… basically a case of identifying what I like and doing things that give me more of it.
I loved being an English major, which was trade school for the best part of my job: working with characters, stories and the humans who create them. I moved from features to TV when I realized it’s nice to get things made from time to time. The business/strategy/deal part appeals to the gearhead wonk in me.
2 Do your kids (how old are they?) love the fact that you're in animation, or are they bored by it?
They love it even if they’re not sure what I do exactly. But since that’s still largely true for my parents, I’m being patient. We tell our sons, now 7 and 10, to follow their hearts and do what they love, so I’m glad my job can be an example of that for them.
So far content-wise I’ve managed to stay relevant. Our 10-year-old is now all YouTube, all the time, but he mostly watches videos about what he’s into and I’m happy to dive into those interests (Minecraft, Magic The Gathering, RC off-road racing, etc).
3 What screen time are you most engaged with? TV, streaming, video games, Facebook? Or something else?
You can always hook me with a British crime or historical drama, from Prime Suspect back in the day to Peaky Blinders, Broadchurch, Luther, etc more recently--and unrequited love stories the British do so well (Persuasion ca. 2007). Also FX-style American series—Sons of Anarchy, The Shield, Better Call Saul, Fargo, to name a few of an endless list.
I try to stay away from PC gaming because it’s too much of a rabbit hole: to date my all-time favorite media experience is the first Deus Ex game, created by Warren Spector whom I got to work with some years back. Also I have played every song on Rock Band at Expert level except one: Green Grass and High Tides remains unconquered.
Lately I’m trying to reduce screen time. See “Music” below, and I read a ton of books. Just finished Golden Hill and loved it. For a very dark take on marriage, check out Mr Peanut.
4 I seem to remember you like to be out on the water a lot. What's that about?
Yeah I’ve sailed and surfed since I was a kid. Traveled around the world surfing after college. It’s easy to understand surfing’s appeal but more difficult to explain sailing. Beyond the obvious aesthetics, for me it’s about feeling competent to deal with what nature throws at you. The mechanical problem-solving is also cool (plug for my patented sailing accessory, the Bottleport). I like staring at the same stars at 3am as sailors have for thousands of years.
Beyond all that, I can trace it to a book I read when I was about 14: Dove, Robin Lee Graham’s diaries as a 16-year-old kid sailing around the world alone. It’s everything I wanted life to be at that age. And maybe still.
5 What kind of music do you like to groove to? What kind will you never listen to?
Traveling to MIPTV this year, every French train station had a public piano. I’ve always wanted to learn to play and that was the last straw – I started taking lessons when I got back. My wife’s a closet singer and we’re looking forward to being Marty & Elayne at 70, singing jazz standards and drinking hard liquor. She’s going to start smoking again at 80. Last month we sang our first real song together: Aimee Mann’s Wise Up, with me on piano and Steph singing! It was awesome. Practice is a true human superpower.
6 Favorite cartoon ever?
Speed Racer. As a very young kid it was totally real to me. My phone is named Racer-X.
7 What do you love about Los Angeles?
The rain.
Thanks Greg!
…..
*7 Questions is my irregular series of interviews with interesting people. Coming up soon, writers, graphic designers, educators, tech founders, start up investors, music folks, and more Frederators.

Note
For the Splatoon Oc questions number 7 and 15 for any Splatoon Oc you have.
im sorta insane so im gonna do. EVERY 7 and 15. ok
Do they take part in ink battles? What kind and how often?
tyr, mish and aro all participate in X-rank battles a lot, you'll mostly see them fucking around yet somehow retaining their rank in tower defense and splatzones!
zoa (an oc i drew Once at school and have never mentioned, for future me's reference) OBVIOUSLY doesn't participate in battles much, being an urchin, but she plays rainmaker with her friends sometimes
What is their main weapon? How did they pick it, and is it customized?
four mains the charger, just like her mom! her charger is covered in stickers she got from her friends over the years...
8.1 likes the blaster because of how reliable it is, while 8.2 enjoys using the splat dualies.
three and nu3 use a different weapon every DAY, they just can't choose! nu3 has an undercover brella that they customized, however, and they use it daily.
mish has no real main, but tyr mains the octobrush. he's constantly praising it whenever aro or mish are in earshot, they think it's cringey but kinda cute.
aro rolls a die every time they play to decide which weapon he should use...
Everyday skill they’re unexpectedly good at
for tyr that'd be cooking, although that's kinda just because he looks like he doesn't know how to cook ramen...
Their favorite way to listen to music? Headphones, radio, et cetera
8.1 and 8.2 like leaving the radio on while they work, it makes them feel more alive. they didn't have stuff like that in the metro, and most radios in octarian society were used for military purposes more than just plain music...
tyr uses his headphones a lot, being a music producer he kinda needs them, so they're the most comfortable for him
Preferred way of transportation; train, car, bike etc.
8.1 and 8.2 do not like trains. they also don't like motorbikes. they like regular bikes, however
three used a train to escape their home and move to inkopolis, so it's their favorite thing to be on.
their interests are...conflicting.
Favorite time of year? Why?
four LOVES autumn- THAT'S WHEN HALLOWEEN IS!!!
three likes spring, when the flowers are in full bloom... they aren't allergic to those, so they get to experience them in their full glory.
8.1 likes winter, because that's when it snows - and when all their favorite holidays take place!
tyr likes winter because salmon runs are closed due to frozen waters.
Have they ever Krakened before?
YES YES YES YES YES YES!!!!!!! specifically 8.1! they managed to get a (barely legal) kraken weapon in splatlands and they use it constantly. they look so silly
otherwise, three's the only one...
Any prominent interests? How do they show?
all of them are autistic, so...
Do they have conversations in their head? What is their relationship with themself?
THIS QUESTION. OHKAY
well for eights it's. uh. pretty obvious! they're a DID system so ofc. their in-system relationships are mostly positive, even between the system at laerge and 8.TT (after splatoon 3's hero mode...)
uhmmmmm mm mm with four.. she just normally talks a lot. doesnt matter who's there, she likes talking to herself. sign, writing or otherwise
THREE. oh my poor child. they have TARTAR ! in their fucking head. like the first one. because of when they got gooped. it's so bad
they're a;so trans
How was school for them? Do they miss it or are they glad it’s over, if it is?
three is eternally grateful that they never have to go back to school ever again.
four misses school, she loved studying, and she's sorely dissapointed about how becoming an agent didn't help with anything but history (her least favorite subject)....
8.1 and 8.2 do not remember school
mishka was in a non-military school underground and learned a lot! she had a fairly decent time, as well as aro (although the latter Was in the miltary...)
tyr did not like school. he was a nerdy tiny kinda gross weird girl. he's a lot happier now
Any common thing they really struggle with?
SPEAKING. for nu3 and eights and tyr and three, speaking is SO hard.
adidtionally, four struggles walking without an aid sometimes. me too girl
Do they have a “signature” article of clothing or item that they treasure? How did they get it and why is it so important to them?
three. hat. grampa. love. they will never let go of it, never ever. it is warm even if it is sort of totally gross
four bought her firefin mask at the store just randomly, but now she rarely takes it off. keeps her safe from diseases AND hides her scars (which she finds to be totally ugly)

NJPW Guide (Part 2): Faction Basics
One of the main things most people know about New Japan is that there are a bunch of factions. Generally the New Japan factions are like Stables you would find anywhere else, they are a bunch of people who wrestle together and help each other. Most shows in New Japan are made up of the big singles matches near the top of the card and a series of tag amd 3 man tag matches between factions taking up the lower cards, meaning NJPW is in the middle of a big multi sided war at all times.
Now let’s briefly say what the actual factions are so you can understand why they might want to team together.
Los Ingobernables de Japon
Los Ingobernables de Japon (The Ungovernables of Japan) are the most popular faction in New Japan at the moment. They are the smallest faction, only having 6 members in New Japan, but are the most united faction with each member seeming to be active friends with all the other members and pulling off great tag moves during matches. They are led by Tetsuya Naito, although it is harder to say if it is leadership or if he just is better at coordinating them. The reason I say “6 members IN NEW JAPAN” is that they are an offshoot of a stable in CMLL, a mexican company. That is why occasionally a few wrestlers from CMLL will work with the group when they turn up in New Japan.
Bullet Club
Bullet Club is the largest faction in New Japan having 12 members. However they are also the most commonly divided faction in NJPW, having gone through 5 different leaders and 24 members being kicked out or leaving. They were made by Prince Devitt, who is now more well known as Finn Balor in WWE, as a group of evil westerners spitting in the face of Japanese tradition and Honour. However nowadays their are Japanese Wrestlers in the group and they have settled more into just being disrespectful to everyone they dislike. Their leader is “Switchblade” Jay White.
Suzuki-Gun
Suzuki-Gun (Suzuki Army) is made up of 7 members. Like Bullet Club they are disrespectful and will attack anyone they don’t like. Unlike Bullet Club though they essentially dislike everyone who isn’t in the group and are generally willing to attack everyone, including the trainees at ringside acting as attendants. They are led by the murderous Grandfather himself Minoru Suzuki.
Chaos
To quote @gaynaito when I asked them about this “ I like to think of chaos as like a less closer lij . Chaos but make it five feet apart and not gay”. They are the most traditional heroic group, they won’t attack you from behind and they generally respect the rules of wrestling. They were created by Shinsuke Nakamura, yes THAT Nakamura, and Toru Yano. They are currently lead by “The Rainmaker” Kazuchika Okada.
Independant
Essentially every person who isn’t in a faction in New Japan is technically in their own Independant faction. Typically Faces and Heels will team with other Independant Faces and Heels in tag mathes. In order to help defend against Suzuki-Gun and Bullet Club the Independant Faces have entered into an alliance with Chaos, so they will also team with them. As far as independant sides can have a leader the faces are lead by Hiroshi Tanahashi.
Hope this was helpful in the slightest at getting the factions a bit less confusing, next part will focus on LIJ since they are the faction I like the most so will have more of an idea of what to write. If you have any questions feel free to ask, and if I forgot any basic information you feel is very important feel free to tell me.

Egyptian, XCloud & Coppola
Hooray, it is episode 90 and all is well. This week we walk like Egyptians, question the cloud, and applaud Francis Coppola. But first up, have you got your tickets for Supanova Brisbane? Not long to go now. We are excited for it and are looking forward to watching all the awesome cosplayers and other amazing antics happening on the Saturday. Stop by and say hi if you are there.
Now first up we have news about the most incredible discovery of Egyptian sarcophagi of this millennium, the best in the last century also. Now, we have to say that it is due to a very sneaky priest who hid them to avoid the thieving grave robbers. So, thank you wise priest with your cunning plan. Because of you these remains are safe and will be protected at the new museum being built at Gaza. There were males, females, and children in these sarcophagi, if you want to know more listen in.
Next up we talk about a cloud. Not the soft fluffy kind you see floating through the sky, no, this is an xcloud. What is an xcloud you ask? It is a cloud that is brought to you by xbox and is intended to support mobile gaming with a cross platform goal in the long term. Sounds awesome right, you will finally be able to see the xbox tribe battle against the Playstation civilisation. Not that I’m biased mind you (Playstation rules). If you want to really get a grasp of the situation the Professor has a lot to say about it. So listen in and see what is happening.
Now, for the movie Nerds we have had Francis Coppola slamming Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy as being kind of boring and pointless. To which James Gunn has taken umbrage, and spoken out claiming all sorts of nonsense. Buck takes great offense and gives a passionate response which is worthy of an Oscar Hall of Fame speech. Truly he seems to struggle to remain calm at times. Truly this could be one of his better grumpy old man moments, especially as it gets Professor to become passionate on the subject. If nothing else this is worthy of a listen.
As normal we have the shout out’s, remembrances, birthdays and special events of interest for the week. Also we would like to say good luck to all those undertaking exams at this time, study hard, and do well. Remember, fear is the mind killer, and stress is a by-product of fear, so relax, just think of the Frodo waking up in Rivendell at the end of the Lord of the Rings. That is the joy when you finish your last exam. Until next week, take care of yourselves, look out for each other, and stay hydrated.

Shoutouts
20 Oct 2019 – Borderlands turn 10. Borderlands was a textbook case of being the right game at the right time. It was unique, irreverent, and so full of guns that spending time in its wasteland meant a carefree and cathartic shooting gallery, with plenty to find and collect. - https://www.ign.com/articles/2019/01/30/37-of-the-biggest-video-game-anniversaries-in-2019
21 Oct 1959 - In New York City, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum opens to the public. The museum was a work of art in itself. Inside, a long ramp spiraled upwards for a total of a quarter-mile around a large central rotunda, topped by a domed glass ceiling. Reflecting Wright’s love of nature, the 50,000-meter space resembled a giant seashell, with each room opening fluidly into the next. - https://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/guggenheim-museum-opens-in-new-york-city
21 October 1973 - 16-year-old John Paul Getty III’s ear is cut off by his kidnappers and sent to a newspaper in Rome. Because of a postal strike the ear does not arrive until November 8. It is starting to rot. - https://flashbak.com/news-in-photos-john-paul-getty-iiis-ear-is-hacked-off-by-mafia-kidnappers-16309/
Remembrances
21 Oct 1805 - Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson, 1st Viscount Nelson, 1st Duke of Bronté, British flag officer in the Royal Navy. He was noted for his inspirational leadership, grasp of strategy, and unconventional tactics, which together resulted in a number of decisive British naval victories, particularly during the Napoleonic Wars. He was wounded several times in combat, losing the sight in one eye in Corsica at the age of 36, as well as most of one arm in the unsuccessful attempt to conquer Santa Cruz de Tenerife. On 21 October 1805, the Franco-Spanish fleet came out of port, and Nelson's fleet engaged them at the Battle of Trafalgar. The battle was Britain's greatest naval victory but during the action Nelson, aboard HMS Victory, was fatally wounded by a French sharpshooter. His body was brought back to England where he was accorded a state funeral. Nelson's death at Trafalgar secured his position as one of Britain's most heroic figures. The significance of the victory and his death during the battle led to his signal, "England expects that every man will do his duty", being regularly quoted, paraphrased and referenced up to the modern day. Numerous monuments, including Nelson's Column in Trafalgar Square, London, and the Nelson Monument in Edinburgh, have been created in his memory and his legacy remains highly influential. He died at the age of 47 in HMS Victory, off Cape Trafalgar - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horatio_Nelson,_1st_Viscount_Nelson
21 Oct 1969 - Wacław Sierpiński, Polish mathematician. He was known for contributions to set theory (research on the axiom of choice and the continuum hypothesis), number theory, theory of functions and topology. He published over 700 papers and 50 books. Three well-known fractals are named after him (the Sierpinski triangle, the Sierpinski carpet and the Sierpinski curve), as are Sierpinski numbers and the associated Sierpiński problem. He died at the age of 87 in Warsaw - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wac%C5%82aw_Sierpi%C5%84ski
21 Oct 2014 - Edward Gough Whitlam, 21st Prime Minister of Australia, serving from 1972 to 1975. He won the 1974 election before being controversially dismissed by the Governor-General of Australia, Sir John Kerr, at the climax of the 1975 Australian constitutional crisis. Whitlam remains the only Australian prime minister to have his commission terminated in that manner. The Whitlam Government implemented a large number of new programs and policy changes, including the termination of military conscription, institution of universal health care and free university education, and the implementation of legal aid programs. The propriety and circumstances of his dismissal and the legacy of his government have been frequently debated in the decades after he left office. Some say he deposed as part of a CIA plot. He was the longest-lived Australian Prime Minister. He died at age of 98 in Elizabeth Bay, New South Wales - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gough_Whitlam
21 Oct 2015 - Norman W. Moore, British conservationist and author who worked extensively on studies of dragonflies and their habitats and was one of the first people to observe and warn of the adverse effects of DDT and other organochlorine pesticides on wildlife. His pioneering work on nature conservation and his pesticide research led to requests for advice from governmental and other scientific organisations in Europe, India, Australia and the United States. It was his work on dragonflies and conservation that led to him coining the term "the birdwatcher's insect", aiming to raise public interest in the role of insect monitoring in ecosystem conservation. The Independent described him in his obituary as one of the most influential figures in nature conservation in the second half of the 20th century. The British Dragonfly Society administers an award in Moore's honour, called the 'Norman Moore Award Fund'. In addition to this, several species of dragonflies and damselflies are named after Moore. He died at the age of 92 in Swavesey - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norman_W._Moore
Famous Birthdays
21 Oct 1883 - Alfred Bernhard Nobel, Swedish businessman, chemist, engineer, inventor, and philanthropist. Nobel held 355 different patents, dynamite being the most famous. The synthetic element nobelium was named after him. Known for inventing dynamite, Nobel also owned Bofors, which he had redirected from its previous role as primarily an iron and steel producer to a major manufacturer of cannon and other armaments. After reading a premature obituary which condemned him for profiting from the sales of arms, he bequeathed his fortune to institute the Nobel Prizes. His name also survives in modern-day companies such as Dynamit Nobel and AkzoNobel, which are descendants of mergers with companies Nobel himself established. He was born in Stockholm - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfred_Nobel
21 Oct 1929 - Ursula Kroeber Le Guin, American author. She is best known for her works of speculative fiction, including science fiction works set in her Hainish universe, and the Earthsea fantasy series. She was first published in 1959, and her literary career spanned nearly sixty years, yielding more than twenty novels and over a hundred short stories, in addition to poetry, literary criticism, translations, and children's books. Frequently described as an author of science fiction, Le Guin has also been called a "major voice in American Letters", and herself said she would prefer to be known as an "American novelist". Le Guin's writing was enormously influential in the field of speculative fiction and has been the subject of intense critical attention. She received numerous accolades, including eight Hugos, six Nebulas, and twenty-two Locus Awards, and in 2003 became the second woman honored as a Grand Master of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America. The U.S. Library of Congress named her a Living Legend in 2000, and in 2014, she won the National Book Foundation Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters. Le Guin influenced many other authors, including Booker Prize winner Salman Rushdie, David Mitchell, Neil Gaiman, and Iain Banks. She was born in Berkeley, California - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ursula_K._Le_Guin
21 Oct 1956 - Carrie Frances Fisher, American actress, writer, and comedian. Fisher is best known for playing Princess Leia in the Star Wars films, a role for which she was nominated for four Saturn Awards. She also worked on other writers' screenplays as a script doctor, including tightening the scripts for Hook,Sister Act,The Wedding Singer, and many of the films from the Star Wars franchise, among others. In later years, she earned praise for speaking publicly about her experiences with bipolar disorder and drug addiction. Events of Interest
21 Oct 1940 - The first edition of the Ernest Hemingway novel For Whom the Bell Tolls was published. It was priced at $2.75 for 75,000 copies. It tells the story of Robert Jordan, a young American volunteer attached to a Republican guerrilla unit during the Spanish Civil War. As a dynamiter, he is assigned to blow up a bridge during an attack on the city of Segovia. The novel is regarded as one of Hemingway's best works, along with The Sun Also Rises, A Farewell to Arms, and The Old Man and the Sea. - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/For_Whom_the_Bell_Tolls
21 Oct 1944 - HMAS Australia struck in first kamikaze attack during the Battle of Leyte Gulf. The plane was carrying a 441-pound bomb, but it did not explode. Still, it inflicted serious damage to the ship and its crew. The Australia survived the attack and was repaired in 1945-46. It returned to the water after the war and was retired in August 1954. - http://www.findingdulcinea.com/news/on-this-day/September-October-08/On-this-Day--Japanese-Pilots-Begin-Kamikaze-Campaign.html
21 Oct 1983 – The metre is defined as the distance light travels in a vacuum in 1/299,792,458 of a second. This definition only makes sense because the speed of light in vacuum is measured to have the same value by all observers; a fact which is subject to experimental verification. Experiments are still needed to measure the speed of light in media such as air and water. - http://math.ucr.edu/home/baez/physics/Relativity/SpeedOfLight/measure_c.html

IWGP Heavyweight Championship: Hiroshi Tanahashi d. Kenny Omega [The Elite] © (High Fly Flow, 39:13) - Omega fails his 4th defense - Tanahashi is the 67th champion
Hoo boy, a lot to break down here.
Every single title changed hands during this show, including the IWGP Heavyweight Championship. The last time that belt changed hands at a January 4 Tokyo Dome show was Wrestle Kingdom V on 1/4/2011, by, how about that, Hiroshi Tanahashi, beating Satoshi Kojima. Eight years since then, including last year's controversial retaining by Kazuchika Okada over Tetsuya Naito that some people are still salty about. So, essentially, the entire Bushiroad era. The (frankly piss-poor) reign of Kenny Omega as IWGP champion is at an end, and the rest of the Elite (including Kota Ibushi) are title-less as well. So let the speculation about Omega and All Elite Wrestling begin in full force. It will be interesting to see which direction he goes in either way. For his part, Tanahashi is now an 8-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion, cementing himself with the record number of reigns. (The next closest is Tatsumi Fujinami at 6.)
Los Ingobernables all hold titles now as well, barring Hiromu, of course, being out injured and all. CHAOS holds one title, as does Bullet Club, who lost one and gained one. The Seikigun hold two, after Tanahashi and Juice won their matches, however lost one with KUSHIDA.
Tetsuya Naito regains the title he hates over Jericho in a brutal brawl, taking full advantage of the No-DQ stipulation, and with it, begins his redemption story, having to come to terms with the IC belt to finally truly move beyond it. Really interested in seeing how his 2019 will go.
Jay White winning over Okada is interesting. It redeems White for having a poor re-debut at WK12 last year, and sets up a continuing feud with the two. Kazuchika Okada having his redemption arc is going to be a major part of 2019 creatively, I think, as will Naito as stated above, and eventually the two will collide. Okada does not take a hit here. It only sets him up to be stronger in the end. And hey, the Longboys are gone, so we have the Rainmaker back!
Shock of shocks, neither of the three-way tag matches ended with the reigning champions being pinned. The junior tag match was REAL short. (So were many of the matches today) Three-ways are stupid and are there to a) not make the champions do the job b) cover up for a bloated roster. Perhaps with the Elite moving away from NJPW this will be minimized in future. But let's face it, now we'll get rematches with the previous champions v. the current ones coming up real soon.
Juice regains the US belt, and writes Cody Rhodes out of NJPW. Trent Beretta challenged Juice post-show. That'll be good. Hopefully they can do right by Juice this time. They made him look like an absolute star at G1 Special in San Francisco, and then proceeded to squander and ruin that the rest of 2018. ZSJ regaining the RevPro title is about what I expected. Now he can take the belt home to England. Yes, that is the na.me of that finisher
That... was a nasty looking elbow Kota took. Ibushi has been reported as being concussed, and that stretcher job was legit. NJPW says the concussion is not severe. Will Ospreay is trying to be in characer gloating about it, because he is a dipshit. Who knows what Ibushi's future is in this AEW era. He's been a freelancer this entire time, so if he too were to leave NJPW (again) so be it. I really think he has the potential to be a drawing IWGP champion, but that's up to him. He did decline a WWE contract after all (as did Sabre). His is the bigger question mark looming than Omega's, if I'm honest.
The mixed Seikigun/CHAOS team of Makabe/Yano/Taguchi won the pre-show gauntlet match, so will most likely challenge for the NEVER Openweight Comedy 6-Man Tag Team titles tomorrow at New Year Dash!!. Yuji Nagata filled in for the injured *spits* Michael Elgin, and made the match actually watchable now, because fuck Michael Elgin. The Most Violent Players still being a thing makes me think there really is going to be a unit shakeup coming soon. We already saw it with Jay White and Gedo earlier in 2018, and the continued CHAOS/Seikigun teamups point that way too.
All in all, a really good show that was weak on paper but in practice did really well. The attendance was announced as 38,162, up from 34,995 for last year's, but not as much of a jump (Nearly +10K last year from WK11). It's also the highest attendance listed since Bushiroad started using actual numbers rather than papered, which was 36,000 in 2015 for WK9. So as critical as I've been of Kenny Omega as champion, using the Meltzer Standard for attendance, it looks like Kenny was, in fact, a decent draw as champion, even if creative and match quality was the shits. Online, it seems that there were some issues during the show on NJPWWorld, for which apologies have been doled out.
The attendance is an interesting issue. Bushiroad owner Takaaki Kidani has said for years that he wanted Wrestle Kingdom 14 to be the sell-out show at the Dome, as it falls on a Saturday...
As part of today's show, upcoming big events were announced for the coming year, and the biggest one of these was the announcement that WK14 will be, in fact, a 2-day event, on 1/4 and 1/5/2020, both Saturday and Sunday. Not sure how that is going to work out for selling out the Dome in 2020. In fact it might dilute the attendance by splitting it. It's an interesting conundrum, and we'll see if NJPW has the momentum to sell out just one, if not both, of those dates this time next year.
Other major show dates were announced, some we already knew (if you look at the Upcoming NJPW Events post from 2 days ago). There is a mega-card announced for 4/20/2019 at Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium, without a name given, but no word on Sakura Genesis, so I'm wondering if there will even be one this year. Wrestling Dontaku 2019 is a two-day event in Fukuoka, much like last year's edition.
This year's Best of the Super Juniors 26 Final will be held on 6/5/2019 at Tokyo Ryogoku Kokugikan, which is great, finally giving the Final the prestige it deserves with such a massive venue to hold it in. A mere 4 days later, we go back to Osaka-Jo Hall for Dominion 6.9 in Osaka-Jo Hall on, oddly enough, 6/9/2019.
G1 Climax 29 will begin and end in interesting fashion. This year's tournament will actually begin in the USA, on 7/6/2019 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, TX, making this the only time G1 Climax matches have been held outside of Japan. As for the ending, following the success of last year's Finals at Tokyo Nippon Budokan, which was due to necessity of renovations happening at Ryogoku, they are going back this year from 8/10 - 8/12/2019 for this year's G1 Finals as well.
The last one to be announced is a solo date in London, on 8/31/2019 at The Copper Box, located in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Hackney Wick. This is the place where feuding YouTubers Joe Weller and KSI held a boxing match. I am sure there will be RevPro involvement in this show.
That's it. That's all I got. New Year Dash!! is tomorrow but they never announce the card for it ahead of time. Hope everyone enjoyed WK13, and we start a good year in New Japan Pro Wrestling.

ALL THE MUSIC ASKS 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
1. Most frequently played song rn
O’Hooley & Tidow - Gentleman Jack
2. Favorite 2000s era song
Nightwish - Ghost love score
3. Go-to sad song
Eeeeeeeehhh… It’s bound to be something by Placebo for purely historical reasons alone, but I don’t think I actually have a song to listen to when sad, not to mention the cause of sadness may vary wildly and thus calls for wildly different songs.
4. Favorite movie soundtrack
Non-compilation? LotR is the only one I really ever listen to by itself.
5. Number one artist/band you wanna see live
Ffhhhhhhh LedZep, Deep Purple, Sabbath et al. circa ‘72. Nightwish in 2004. MCR in 2010. Mary Bergin is still alive, I’m ready whenever she is.
6. Artist you’d love to sit down and have a conversation with
I’m rather convinced most people who make music I like are self-absorbed, pretentious and /or otherwise dicks, but I think there’s a conversation to be had about obscure Silmarillion headcanons with Tuomas Holopainen.
7. Give one controversial music-related opinion
Nick Cave gives me heebie jeebies just looking at him and I can’t stand his music. :(
8. Do you like having physical copies of music?
It’s 2019, I live in a rented flat, and nothing I own has an optical drive, let alone anything more hipstery.
9. Fave 90s era song
I’m sure I’m meant to say something like Everybody or Wannabe, but since Without you I’m nothing came out in 1998 I feel perfectly within my rights to say Pure morning.
10. Go-to happy song
Fireball? That’s what hyperfocus sounds like anyway.
11. Most played playlist
I just usually put my whole library on shuffle and wear a hole into the screen over the skip button. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Specific playlist’s got to be Celtic folk though.
12. A song that you have a very specific memory attached to- explain
Hah. Let’s go with the one time I technically proposed to my high school bff one-sided pal (yea Like That, in retrospect) without actually realising I wasn’t just recommending a nice love song. I remember it so vividly because the night previous I dreamt she got married to her then-crush and I was still inexplicably miserable about it, so told her the dream and I framed it like “haha if I ever got married despite the facts that I’m clearly never gonna lol I’d want to set it to this song whaddaya think?” and wrote out the lyrics to her.
13. Fav 80s era song
Sisters of Mercy, Queen, Iron Maiden, The Cure, AC/DC, Guns ‘N Roses, Springsteen, U2, Warlock, fucking… Depeche Mode and you’re expecting me to pick one song?
14. A song that youd get the lyrics to tattooed on your body
It’s in your reach… Concentrate. was the one I was turning over in my head for years.
15. A good song to blow your car speakers out to
I don’t have a car, it’s nice cycling to Stargazer.
16. A song from your childhood
Does it count if it wasn’t released in my childhood, but nevertheless an integral part of it due to Dad’s vinyls?
17. Artist with the most angelic voice
The friendliest reminder that an angelic voice can and should put the fear of God into you, but at the same time remind you of the infinite beauty of creation.
18. Fav 70s era song
Please refer to my reply to the 80’s question, but more.
19. A song that reminds you of your best friend
Iron Maiden - Rainmaker
20. Songs you use to fall asleep
I don’t do that anymore, but it used to be I could fall asleep to Deathstars and Guano Apes as well as to Enya, so…
21. Song you wanna get laid to
Placebo’s cover of I feel you in particular, but a good chunk of Depeche Mode’s songs put me in mind of intimacy. (In contrast, but not opposed to sex.)
22. A song that’s lyrics are engrained in your mind forever
My head is full of lyrics, I think I could flawlessly lipsynch like 99% of old Nightwish for example.
23. A song you cannot stand
Ketchup song (Asereje).
24. Top 3 most listened to music genre
Classic rock, metal, Celtic folk.
25. Songs you’d fight to
Doesn’t matter, just get Edgar Wright to direct the scene. Also I’m a fucking wuss so I wouldn’t fight.

Sneak Peek - THE SETTING
Phoenix Trappist - What is She?
Setting Snippet!
In preparation for our opening, we are dropping a couple snippets of information about the setting, technology, lore, and plot. Follow us for more!
She travels at roughly 8% the speed of light, aiming for a star system 39.6 light years away. In a straight shot, it would take 592.43 years to reach its destination. Humans set their eyes beyond their own solar system when they expanded beyond the Kuiper Belt, and the world government announced its Great Undertaking in 2052. The seed ships would take humans away from Sol, farther than any had gone before, with the goal of populating the far stars. The first ship was sent to Alpha Centauri, the second to Tau Ceti, the third to Gliese, and the fourth, our ship Phoenix, to Trappist.
She’s 100 square kilometers and roughly 10 kilometers long along the spine. Ring Alpha is 7 kilometers in diameter, and Ring Beta is 5 kilometers in diameter. As of today’s count, there are 2,466 souls aboard, which is below the ideal population count. Phoenix Trappist is designed for the long journey with everything on the ship being recycled, reused, and re-ingested so to speak. Nothing is wasted, and survivability depends on delicate metabolic and ecological balances.
She holds 11 different biomes mimicking the terran and aquatic biomes of Earth. Seasons are imitated with cloudmaking and rainmaking with the help of hydraulic systems creating wind and storms. Gravity is generated in both rings by their rotation, creating a centrifugal force of .96 Earth’s gravity. Each biome is part wilderness, zoo, farm, and town, and each biome can be sealed off from the rest in an instant in case of fires, breaches, riots, or the unforeseen. Travel between biomes is easy with the intricate tram system running through the entire ship. Cargo is stored in the walls, the floors, in every nook and cranny—not only to maximize storage space but also to shield everyone and everything inside from cosmic radiation.
This is your home. When you were 12, you were given a space suit and escorted outside the ship to walk along her hull and see the endless universe unobstructed. The Rite of Walk is every person's Overview moment.
Earth, humanity’s place of birth, is a distant, abstract concept. Over a dozen generations have come and gone since Phoenix left Sol behind. You won’t be part of the group that makes it to Trappist-1e, the likely habitable planet. Your children won’t be either. Neither will their children or their children and so on and on until almost another 300 years. The question—the fear—is whether or not anyone will make it.

The final question asked what you’re most looking forward to in 2018 and was open-ended. Most answers included:
The direction of Los Ingobernables de Japon, particularly Naito winning the IWGP Heavyweight Championship at Wrestle Kingdom 12
How their U.S. expansion fares
Some kind of Omega/Ibushi interaction, with the most popular choice being a feud
G1 Climax 28
The directions of Zack Sabre Jr., Kota Ibushi, Beretta, Hiromu Takahashi, and KUSHIDA (emphasizing a transition to heavyweight)
And a personal favorite (I wish I could give you a prize whoever wrote this): “NJPW’s status at this time next year. I love how much they’ve grown the fan base this year and the shows have been top notch. I also hope they’ll have wireless mics next year.”
I wanna do this again for 2018 because folks seemed to enjoy this, and it was fairly easy to gather data and whatnot. Maybe not do edits? I’ll decide in December to see how things are of course, but thanks to everyone for voting. It was not wasted!
