Machine Intelligence & Deep Learning Neural Network Training is basically the main goal of the AMD Instinct project. it has not yet release an actual project but it is targeting the Training techniques used today on neural networks in machine intelligence and deep learning. Applications in data centers have become very complex and require the handling of massive amounts of data when training those networks to recognize patterns within that data. This area is also becoming an interest for Nvidia recently and they have been working with the new 12nm Volta platform for huge data loads and AI tech needs. This kind of data processing requires lots of floating point computation spread across many cores like EPYC has, and traditional CPUs can’t handle this type of computation as efficient and as fast as the current multi stream GPUs handle it. What can take CPUs weeks to compute, can be handled in days with the use of GPUs. The Radeon Instinct MI25, is now combined with AMD’s new Epyc server processors and AMD ROCm open software platform, deliver performance needed for machine intelligence and deep learning applications.
Radeon Instinct performance running with 4,096 stream processors; along with its High Bandwidth Cache (HBC) and controller and 16GB of high-bandwidth HBM2 memory, The MI25 accelerator, based on AMD’s Next-Gen “Vega” architecture with the what AMD Calls it “the world’s most advanced memory architecture”, is optimized for handling large sets of data.

AMD悄悄注册Vega II商标:或是7nm工艺游戏卡
据外媒发现,AMD最近悄然注册了一个新的商标“Vega II”,看这意思对应着第二代Vega架构产品。
新的商标主体仍然是Vega家族的V字造型,不过右侧刻意镂空了两条竖线,对应“II”。
AMD Vega架构显卡目前在桌面上有Radeon RX Vega 64/56/56 Nano,在专业领域则有Radeon Vege Frontier Edition、Radeon Instinct MI25、Radeon Pro WX 8200、Radeon Pro SSG、Radeon V340等等。

AMD’s upcoming GPUs, the new 7 nm Vega 20 expected to hit the 20 TFLOP barrier, the downside is huge power consumption figure of 400 W, reports say.7 nm Vega 20 GPUs, the next-gen Radeon Instinct video cards are expected to appear in the news very soon. AMD already provided a sneak peek at the upcoming 7 nm server parts, and based on what they unveiled, ASCII.jp concluded that the solutions based on the Vega 20 can break hit 20 TFLOPs of processing power. ASCII.jp’s estimations put the Vega 20 die size at 360 square millimeters, which is a solid 70 percent reduction in total die size when compared to the Vega 10 chip. 7 nm Vega 20 GPUs are probably solutions that would take on the Tesla V100 from Nvidia and not the long expected 1180 gpus. If the estimations and reports are correct, AMD 7nm Vega 20 GPU Estimated To Feature 20 TFLOPs of Compute A HPC Powerhouse in The Making, 32 GB of HBM2 VRAM, Up To 400W TDP. And this is not even rational/ normal for gaming platform.

The clock rate on 7nm LPP is a big trick, you either get 55% power savings from the same frequency as 14nm or you can get 40% faster clock rates from the same power as 14nm. Here’s the thing though, if you were to aim for 40% faster clocks at the same power package, you’d also have to feed power to the extra HBM2 VRAM (4 Stacks vs 2 Stacks), the new DNN instruction sets.

AMD is announcing a number of new products at CES 2018, building on the momentum it worked up in 2017 with its all-new Ryzen, Threadripper and Epyc CPUs, Radeon RX Vega GPUs, and semi-custom designs for products such as the Xbox One X. The company hopes to continue pushing into the consumer and enterprise markets and is also hoping to capitalise on demand in the high-performance computing, machine learning, VR and mixed reality spaces.
First up, AMD says it will deliver Ryzen APUs with integrated Radeon RX Vega graphics for desktop PCs on February 12 this year. The Ryzen 5 2400G is a quad-core multi-threaded model with 11 Vega compute units, and the Ryzen 3 2200G has four cores without multi-threading and only 8 CUs. The Ryzen 5 2400G is clocked at 3.6GHz with a boost speed of 3.9GHz and will cost $169 (approximately Rs. 10,695). AMD suggests that it will match the performance of an Intel Core i5-8400 paired with a discrete Nvidia GT 1030 GPU, at a drastically lower cost. The Ryzen 3 2200G has base and boost speeds of 3.5GHz and 3.7GHz respectively and will cost $99 (approximately Rs. 6,265). There are no plans for a Ryzen 7 APU model in 2018.
Those models will be followed by the second-gen Ryzen, Ryzen Pro and Threadripper CPUs later in the year. Second-generation Ryzen CPUs using the ‘Zen+’ architecture and a 12nm manufacturing process are already being sampled and will begin shipping in April 2018. The process shrink will result in a 10 percent performance improvement.
Most of the existing CPU models have received price cuts ranging from $15 to $150, which should put even more pressure on Intel. All newly announced desktop CPUs will use the same socket AM4 as the first-generation Ryzen models, but specific motherboard compatibility will depend on the presence of video outputs for the onboard graphics. AMD has also announced its next-generation X470 desktop chipset, promising better power efficiency and launching in April 2018. Finally, AMD unveiled a quiet new cooler, the Wraith Prism, which features direct-contact heat pipes, an RGB LED ring, and illuminated fan blades.
New mobile APUs will build on the two models AMD launched last year. The company claims up to 175 percent and 128 percent better CPU and GPU performance compared to its own previous-generation APUs, along with 58 percent lower power consumption. Complementing the existing Ryzen 7 2700U and Ryzen 5 2500U are the new Ryzen 3 2300U and Ryzen 3 2200U, both expected to appear in laptops shipping this quarter. While the Ryzen 3 2300U has four cores without multi-threading and six Vega compute units, the Ryzen 3 2200U will be a dual-core, four-threaded part with three Vega CUs. Both have 3.4GHz base speeds but the former can boost up to 2GHz while the latter can manage 2.5GHz under load. Both are aimed at ultrathin laptops and 2-in-1s.

In addition to the Acer, HP and Lenovo models announced last year, AMD also released sneak peeks at upcoming Acer Nitro 5 variants with Ryzen CPUs and Radeon RX580 graphics, and Dell Inspiron 5000 series laptops with an optional discrete Radeon 530 discrete GPU.
Looking further into the future, AMD confirmed that Zen 2 will be manufactured using a 7nm process, and its design is complete. Beyond that, Zen 3 will be an optimisation at 7nm+. Both are scheduled to ship before 2020 though more specific timeframes were not announced.
On the graphics side, AMD’s 2018 roadmap will include mobile Radeon Vega GPUs aimed at ultra-thin gaming and professional laptops. The Vega architecture will shrink to 7nm and then be replaced by Navi, also at 7nm. AMD has plotted one more architecture refresh before 2020, though again without any firm launch targets. A new Radeon Instinct MI25 accelerator for machine learning applications will be AMD’s first 7nm chip. It will be ready to sample in 2018 and ship next year.
AMD CTO Mark Papermaster also acknowledged the massive Meltdown and Spectre CPU vulnerabilities that have been confirmed to affect not only Intel chips but also those designed by ARM, Apple, Qualcomm, and AMD. According to him, the vulnerability that affects all vendors will be fully addressed by software and OS patches, and AMD’s architecture is immune to another form of attack that has come to light on other companies’ processors.

Правда, таковым оказался профессиональный ускоритель Radeon Instinct MI25 и о нём рассказали очень мало, а о самом графическом процессоре и вовсе ничего. Было известно только то, что карта потребляет менее 300Вт. Такая формулировка подразумевает, что TDP находится близко к 300Вт, но это касается именно профессионального адаптера. Как бы там ни было, позже стали известны кое-какие подробности о данной видеокарте. Источник говорит, что на мероприятии Tech Summit, на котором представили адаптеры, также провели демонстрацию, во время которой карта MI25 в разных задачах сравнивалась с конкурентами. В частности, в задачах глубокого обучения этот ускоритель превзошёл даже монструозную Tesla P100, которая основана на GPU GP100 с 15,3 млрд транзисторов. Производительность карты Nvidia составляет 18,7 TFLOPS (FP16), 9,3 TFLOPS (FP32) и 4,7 TFLOPS (FP64), если речь о модели с интерфейсом PCIe.
