Okay ive been tinkering w the idea of setting up my own lil ecosystem in a tank and i went balls to the wall today and bought a tank, a rabbits foot fern, and a couple other things.

Im planning on keeping a lil gecko, a frog (or maybe more…) along w shrimp in the pond w snails and some lil guppies(not sure tho i dont want them to struggle w space in a small pond that’d be cruel). Oh and aquatic plants and isopods to care for the detritus and nitrogen. More details to come as it develops. Any tips yall have would be greatly appreciated!

Caterpillars that have engulfed a tiny fern. This a normal thing or something else?

It's not caterpillars, it's part of the fern. I don't know much about plants but I assume it's one of the epiphyte ferns in the family Davalliaceae - they're often kept as house plants (rabbit's foot ferns). Plant people feel free to correct me if it's a different family. The fuzzy bit I think is the rhizome and it helps the plant root to surfaces and spread.

I assume this is called a "rabbit foot fern" because describing it as a "tarantula plant" would be too off-putting, but I think it's quite charming even if I did hesitate for just a beat before touching the "feet"
