Wednesday, December 20: Black Star Riders, "Heavy Fire"
The whole Black Star Riders concept was well past its sell-by date once Heavy Fire rolled around: it was perfectly fine that Scott Gorham was actively playing music again, and with a band of seasoned and respected journeymen in tow, but this was far removed from the context of the Thin Lizzy reunion/tribute from which a chunk of this group emerged.  And despite Ricky Warwick’s baritone and phrasing recalling Phil Lynott (hence why he was recruited for the Lizzy lineup in the first place), Black Star Riders had proven over its previous two albums to be nothing more than a serviceable albeit mostly average hard rock band.  And “Heavy Fire” itself was generally more of the same, with propulsive but not especially forceful drumming from Jimmy DeGrasso, melodic and occasionally Celtic-tinged guitars from Gorham and Damon Johnson, and Warwick’s husky vocalizing.  The group sounded committed and engaged with the material, and Nick Raskulinecz’s production gave everyone ample space.  It was an enjoyable hard rock number, but it also faded from memory fairly quickly, just like most Black Star Riders tunes.

THE ALMIGHTY "Powertrippin'", "Crank", And "Just Add Life" Review
If there was a band that ever truly fit into the 80’s and Grunge, that would be a huge accomplishment. THE ALMIGHTY were about as close as they come. On their third album “Powertrippin’” they barely needed to make slight adjustments to go from a Hard Rockin’ 80’s Biker band to a Grungy Dark 90’s band. It’s really quite impressive how frontman Ricky Warwick was able to pull this off without really…

Making a list of the songs associated with SpongeBob SquarePants... because why not?
Blow The Man Down - This traditional sea shanty from England finds itself the basis for the show's entire theme song.
Drunken Sailor - This melody has found itself as background music on the show, including for title cards and with scenes involving the Krusty Krab
Living in the Sunlight; Tiny Tim - Played during the climax and ending of the pilot episode; Help Wanted
I Wanna Rock; Twisted Sister - Parodied as "Goofy Goober Rock" in the SpongeBob SquarePants Movie
You Better Run; Motorhead - Played during the Thug Tug scene in the SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, appears on the soundtrack as "You Better Swim"
Just A Kid; Wilco - Played during the end credits of The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, made for the film soundtrack. Instrumental plays as the main music for the title menu of the DVD
Sweet Victory; David Glen Eisley - Part of this song was played at the end of the episode "Band Geeks", and the entire song played during the end credits of the game "SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake". Also, requested to be played at the 2019 Super Bowl Half-Time Show in honour of Stephen Hillenburg, who passed away the year prior
Sicko Mode; Travis Scott - Was introduced by SpongeBob characters at the 2019 Super Bowl Half-Time Show
Ocean Man; Ween - Played at the end of the SpongeBob SquarePants Movie. Was also performed by the band as tribute to Stephen Hillenburg
A House Is Not a Home; Dionne Warwick - Parodied as "This Grill Is Not a Home" in the episode "Welcome to the Chum Bucket"
Alone Again (Naturally); Gilbert O'Sullivan - Reminiscent to the song "Gary's Song" in the episode "Have You Seen This Snail?"
Be True To Your School; The Beach Boys - Inspired, and partially parodied in, the song "Ripped Pants" in the eponymous episode.
Livin' La Vida Loca; Ricky Martin - Played in the movie "The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run" (I think this movie was trying to be Shrek)
O Tannenbaum / O Christmas Tree - Parodied as "Oh, Krusty Krab" in the episode "Truth or Square"
Long Gone Lonesome Blues; Hank Williams - Parodied as "I Wanna Go Home" in the episode "Texas"
Take On Me; A-ha - Covered by Weezer during the end of the movie "The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge On The Run". Originally released on the Weezer Album "Weezer (Teal) in 2019"
The Sailor's Hornpipe - Melody used as background music
Stadium Rave - Otherwise known as "Jellyfish Jam"
Add more if you wish.

Rock bands that continued after their lead vocalist died
Rock bands that continued after their lead vocalist died Thin Lizzy - Phil Lynott died in January 1986. Thin Lizzy was not an active band at the time of Phil Lynott's death. Thin Lizzy would reunite years later with lead guitarist John Sykes handling lead vocals. Ricky Warwick of The Almighty joined the band as lead vocalist in 2010, which led to the formation of Black Star Riders. Queen - Freddie Mercury died in November 1991. Queen never officially disbanded but would not perform as a fully active band for over a decade. Queen + Paul Rodgers had formed upon the recruitment of Paul Rodgers in late 2004. In late 2011, Queen + Adam Lamber formed, upon the recruitment of Adam Lambert. Stone Temple Pilots - Scott Weiland died in December 2015. Chester Bennington left the band to focus on Linkin Park a month prior. Stone Temple Pilots were on hiatus at the time and Chester Bennington conmitted suicide in July 2017. Jeff Gutt joined the band in late 2017. Sublime - Bradley Nowell died in May 1996. Sublime disbanded just prior to the release of their breakthrough studio album. In 2009 , Sublime with Rome formed after the recruitment of Rome Ramirez. In 2024, Jakob Nowell (Bradley Nowell's son) joined the band, officially reforming Sublime after Rome Ramirez announced his intention to move on and pursue other musical projects. INXS - Michael Hutchence died in November 1997. INXS would continue and play live sporadically with various guest vocalists over the next several years - with Jon Stevens being an official member over the years. In 2005, the band's surviving members were involved in a reality TV show called Rock Star and the band recruited J.D. Fortune upon winning the contest. J.D. Fortune left in 2011 and Ciaran Gibbin brieflt took over before disbanding in late 2012. Lynyrd Skynyrd - Ronnie Van Zant along with several other members died in October 1977 in an infamous plane crash while on tour. Lynyrd Skynyrd subsequently disbanded after the accident. In 1987, the surviving members of Lynyrd Skynyrd reunited with Johnny Van Zant (Ronnie Van Zant's younger brother) and the band has continued to change lineups since as several members have died since, including most, if not all, in the pre-plane crash classic lineup. Alice in Chains - Layne Staley died in April 2002. Alice in Chains subsequently disbanded after his death. Alice in Chains would reunite several years later with William DuVall as their new lead vocalist. Grateful Dead - Jerry Garcia died in August 1995. Grateful Dead subsequently disbanded after his death. The surviving members of the Grateful Dead would perform as various incarnations over the sporadic following decades such as The Other Ones, The Dead and most famously as Dead & Company. Joy Division - Ian Curtis died in May 1980. Joy Division disbanded after his death. The surviving members of Joy Division continued as New Order. AC/DC - Bon Scott died in February 1980. AC/DC subsequently continued with new lead vocalist Brian Johnson. Submitted January 26, 2025 at 10:19PM by UpbeatChampionship17 https://ift.tt/lF9DOs5 via /r/Music
