The Ilocos Sur Naturals Beauty
hello everyone its me Aprilyn Uclusin, Allow me to show you some of the province of Ilocos Sur's natural beauty and wonders.
Ilocos Sur was founded by the Spanish conquistador, Juan de Salcedo in 1572. It was formed when the north (now Ilocos Norte) split from the south (Ilocos Sur). At that time it included parts of Abra and the upper half of present-day La Unión.
The province is famed for its diverse culture and history, as well as its heritage sites, adventure parks, and, of course, its cuisine. This time, though, we'll be focusing on the wonderful sites to visit in Ilocos Sur.
1. Vigan Cathedral
Another Vigan Ilocos Sur tourist spot to check out is the St. Paul’s Cathedral. Also known as Vigan Cathedral, it is considered a major religious landmark not only of northern Luzon but the country as well. The original structure was built in 1574 with wood and thatch. It was just a mere chapel then. It was only in 1641 when it was turned into a church and was completed in 1800.
The Vigan Cathedral follows a Baroque architectural design that has been modified by Ilocanos to strengthen the structure against earthquakes which is known as “Earthquake Baroque.” Don’t miss this as it is one of the most beautiful Vigan tourist spots.
Highlight:
Earthquake Baroque architecture
2. Calle Crisologo
If you want to travel back in time, Calle Crisologo is the best place to be. This tourist spot in Vigan City is a street of old Spanish structures, mostly houses of wealthy families and Filipino-Chinese traders. This is where you’ll see the famous cobblestone streets that represent Vigan’s image.
Must-read: Calle Crisologo: Walking Through A Tale of War and Love

3. Bantay Church Bell Tower
The Saint Augustine Parish Church, commonly known as Bantay Church, is a Roman Catholic church in Bantay, Ilocos Sur in the Philippines. The church was dedicated to St. Augustine of Hippo. It is also known as the Shrine of Our Lady of Charity (Shrine of Nuestra Señora de la Caridad) housing the miraculous image of Virgin Mary as Our Lady of Charity, crowned by the Pope as the patroness of Ilocandia on 12 January 1956.
The old historic belfry of the church known as the Bantay Tower, which served as a watchtower for pirates back in the Spanish colonial era, gave the town its name - bantay (meaning to guard). Established in 1590, the church is one of the oldest in the Ilocos Region
The Bantay Church Bell Tower served as the town’s watchtower in 1591. The magnificent view that this tourist attraction in Ilocos Sur may have been the reason why it was supposedly “Diego and Gabriela Silang’s favorite date spot during the 17th century.”

When someone gives you a jar from Vigan City, know that it’s of good quality. Among the most famous jar factories in the province is the Pagburnayan Jar Factory. Here they make the jars from a grade-A clay which is abundant in the area.
Pagburnayan, comes from the root word burnay. It refers to the hand-crafted earthenware pots made from Vigan. Bantog clays these are called. They’re dug from the western barangays of the city. I once asked a cuchero who was touring me around where they would get more of these, if supplies ran out. Impossible, he says, they’ve been sourcing their materials from that area since Chinese immigrants came to Vigan City and established the craft.

A sort of KH3 review.. thing
Well dang that was a wild ride wasn’t it? It’s been about 2/3 weeks since I finished the game (took me 5 days which is record time for me considering it was a pretty big game) so I’ll try my best to condense my thoughts on it below
Please note this is my opinion so you may agree or disagree with me on some parts and that’s totally fine!
And it’s gonna be long
Alright let’s get the bad out of the way:
-The pacing
I’m not the first and I definitely won’t be the last to complain about the goddamn pacing. Kingdom Hearts in general is pretty bad when it comes to a well balanced pace and this was the same. Everything felt rushed and crammed towards the end with it feeling like ‘quick let’s wrap this up ASAP!’.
It was literally Disney world after world with bits of important story in between and then the actual plot of saving everyone kicked in and probably made up of about 3 hours of the whole game. It could have been better if we’d have rescued Aqua and Ven earlier then towards the end save Roxas, Xion and Terra (and Namine) but nah.
Even the ending itself felt rushed and half assed at times. We didn’t get to see Sora save Kairi it was just Keyblade Graveyard ending- everyone being happy at the beach- credits. That was... kinda dumb? Also when you’re wrapping up a 17 year old saga you don’t tend to end it like that. You know what I’m talking about.
-Characters
They gone did Kairi dirty again. AGAIN. How many times are we gonna do this? My poor girl got shafted right at the end just to fuel Sora’s anger and then didn’t explain how she got back to the islands anyway but who fucking cares y’know.
She was hyped up after being confirmed to be a guardian of light and in training with Lea and they did fuck all with it. It’s like you’re so excited to see Santa and you get up on his knee to ask what present you want this Christmas only for Santa to laugh and smack you in the face.
I could go on and on about Kairi but I’d probably be saying what everyone else has already said. I was expecting more character interactions ie the famous Roxas and Ven one we’ve been looking forward to for years but we got a funny glance and that’s it. Again, probably due to pacing but there was so much potential for some great new friendships to blossom and they just... didn’t.
-Worlds
Ok this is mainly Twilight Town being so teenie weenie. Come on, in KH2 we had TT, Hollow Bastion, TWTNW, Yen Sid’s Tower but for 3? Two sections of TT that’ll do. ??? Why??? It looked gorgeous and I couldn’t wait to explore the whole town but for some reason we were reduced to it being two rooms. Also missed out a good opportunity to have RG playable again but nah.
I get the feeling Disney we’re very pushy with this title? Like they had more input than usual and Square couldn’t really argue with them which would explain why the OG worlds were kinda dull? Idk I hope they learn to butt out a little and let Square do their thing. I’m not saying get rid of Disney god no. I just think there needs to be less Disney and more OG in the next title.
Alright the good stuff now!
- The graphics
Holy shit this game was BEAUTIFUL
Everything was gorgeous to look at and Unreal Engine made all the worlds look unique and specific to their Disney world. Like o can’t fault how this game looks it’s just that pretty
-Voice acting
Hayley, Hayley my man you did fantastic. I was getting worried that he’d sound off like in DDD but the man delivered. Everything was spot on and his emotions came across so much better? That scream? The crying?? The joy?? Beautiful. And Vanitas sounded so goddamn evil and Hayley sounded like he was having a blast voicing him 👌
Jesse did amazing as always with Roxas and Ven making them sound different. Just wish they coulda talked to each other xD I really liked Alyson’s Kairi too! I miss Hayden but for the most part Alyson pulled it off great along with Xion.
Like everyone sounded so much better I could go on and on. Can’t really fault much of the voice acting tbh. Xehanort grew on me but Nimoy will always be the better Nort
-Minigames/side quests
I absolutely SUCK at the cooking mini game but I still found it loads of fun. The only one I could do properly was the salt and pepper shaker one 😅 The 100 Acre Wood stuff was very samey samey but still cute and fun regardless.
I only did one flan mini game (the one in Toy Box) and that was awesome too! Hunting for ingredients and lucky emblems was tricky in parts but I loved the satisfaction when you finally find the damn thing! They were just a nice little touch and even though I only got 17 out of 90 I enjoyed looking for them.
Also that Tangled dancing game. My FAV IDK HOW MANY TIMES I’VE PLAYED THAT ITS JUST SO WHOLESOME AND GOOD
-Attraction Flow
LOVED this gimmick. What can I say I absolutely love Disneyland and being able to use the rides to fight in battle was a blast. I especially loved the mad tea cups (“Bring it in!”) and the pirate ship they were loads of fun :D shame I only got to use Thunder Mountain twice because it’s one of my favourite rides xD
-The gummi phone
Who doesn’t love this. Finally I can take selfies with Disney characters! It was so cute I’m glad they added it. I’m definitely gonna use it more on my next gameplay at inappropriate times during the final battles 🌚
-Final battles
Being able to fight alongside Riku, Mickey, Aqua, Ven, Kairi, Lea, Roxas and Xion was at the top of my wish list for 3 and it finally happened ;-; Ok we’re with Kairi and Lea for two minutes but I ENJOYED THOSE TWO MINUTES. Kairi actually does some decent damage too so she can fight. You did amazing sweetie. And how OP is Roxas? You can just sit back and let him do all the work while you and Xion chill out. Granted they weren’t difficult bosses but I don’t care I got to fight with my sons and daughters by my side <3
I’m nearly done now promise. Just wanna say my favourite worlds ❤️
Corona: Gorgeous and (mostly) tranquil. Rapunzel and Eugene make great partners and the hair swing thing was awesome to jump to different areas. Also the little quests with Rapunzel were adorable and made the world feel more alive.
Monstropolis: I think what made this world for me were the character interactions and the music. The world itself was just inside the factory but the way everyone played off each other and dealt with Vanitas at the end was amazing. And Sora doing his funny face again. You little treasure <3
Toy Box: YOU. ARE. A. TOYYYYYY. Everything was so gigantic and interactive and gsjsksksla it was just loads of fun! Loved Woody and Buzz as partners and the whole world was such a treat- nothing like we’ve ever had in a KH game before. Can we also talk about Woody absolutely wrecking Xehanort though? Iconic.
Well I think that’ll do me for now. Overall I’d give it an 8.5/10 with the major issues being plot pacing and lack of character development. Also the camera sometimes did this weird thing in attraction flow mode where it’d just zoom into a rock or a tree :/ I really enjoyed KH3 despite its flaws and what was done well was done really well
Maybe get some more new writers and let Square properly take the reins for the next one yeah? And let Kairi finally have her time to shine. You’ve set up a rescue mission after all, Square 👀

SA: What bands or musicians would you cite as the biggest influences on your sound? KK: I would say, if I had to pick one, it would be Operators/Handsome Furs. Searing guitars and fat, chewy synths - yum.
DW: I think we have a family resemblance with bands like Do Make Say Think, Godspeed You, Black Emperor! and maybe some Pink Floyd.
RG: Dynamics. I think that any music that brings drama and dynamic changes into their arrangements have had an influence on us. Without lyrics we need to tell a story and convey emotion with musical ‘feel’. All the bands mentioned above as well as the Rheostatics, Byrne/Eno (My Life in the Bush of Ghosts), and maybe even some Zappa.
SA: Thus far in your career, what has been your biggest success? DW: Probably our one show, opening for Atlas:Empire at Pressed in May. It was short, but super fun. Our friend, Paul, helped us out on guitar. Richard and I also got to speak a couple of times with tic, a DJ over at CKCU. He’s great.
SA: On the other hand, what is the biggest challenge you have faced, and how have you dealt with it? DW: Maybe scheduling. We’re all middle-aged parents with non-musical day jobs.
SA: How do you guys approach the song-writing process? DW: Basically we find a melody or beat that stands out and try to make a song out of it. Sometimes we’ll pick an unusual time signature and go from there, other times a band member will arrive with a completed tune. Both our albums were recorded over many months. A series of jams, with a lot of final takes happening between 9:45 pm and 10 pm. Then the whole thing is handed over to Matt and after a week or two it’s done. The third album is on the way, but with K on keys, which is opening lots of cool doors. You can hear a little piece of something new here.
SA: What are your thoughts on the Ottawa music scene? KK: I wish more bands came through - wish there was a decently large place downtown, for them to play. But it’s a chicken and the egg thing right? I think the scene is improving, though, and what I love about Ottawa is how everyone is so supportive, positive - there is no pretense.
SA: What is the favourite show the band has played, and why? DW: By default, our one and only show, at Pressed. It was great to test out the music on stage.
SA: What is the favourite show you have seen, and why? KK: Really hard to pick, but one that definitely stands out is PJ Harvey at Metropolis a couple years ago. Wow.
DW: I saw Apostle of Hustle at Zaphods, about 10 years ago. Unbelievable sounds.
RG: Too many to whittle down to just one. David Byrne at Cityfolk last year for the incredible choreography and performance, St. Vincent at Ritual for the raw unbridled guitar wizardry and Gil Scott-Heron at the Mercury Lounge circa 1997 for the legend.
SA: A question for fun: your three desert island albums. What would they be and why? KK: For me, it might have to be Glenn Gould playing Beethoven’s piano sonatas. It has got me through many, many tough times - his interpretation, touch, spacing is pure genius.
DW: Veedon Fleece, by Van Morrison. It’s reliably mesmerizing, which would distract me from the doom of being on the island. Cosmo’s Factory, CCR.
RG: A Love Supreme, Coltrane; Stubborn Persistent Illusions, Do Make Say Think; Who’s Next, The Who.
SA: Finally, what comes next for El Orca moving on in 2019 and beyond? Best of luck! DW: New album, hopefully before 2020. And maybe another show. Or maybe more stuff like this. Thanks, Pierce!

Guess Who’s Coming to Amonkhet?
Part 3
The final installment of my look at the current roster of Planeswalkers and their likelihood of appearing in Amonkhet! (see Part 1 here, and Part 2 here) Let me know who you think will make their appearance on Bolas’s Playground!
Saheeli Rai
Appearance in Story: Only as a last resort, and only in a very ancillary capacity. Saheeli might be aware of where the GW are going, but she’s decided for the time being to help rebuild Ghirapur, the Consulate (in whatever new form it takes) and Kaladesh. Also, I hear she has a bunch of cats to look after. Card in Block No. Even if she appears as part of a rescue operation, it will be as one of many, and she won’t appear in card form.
Sarkhan Vol
Appearance in Story: Possible, not probable. Sarkhan has no love for Bolas. He came from a land of no dragons to find a dragon to wonder and serve, and he ended up with Bolas, who manipulated him into cracking open the Eye of Ugin. It turns out the real dragons were inside us the whole time. Well, thousands of years in the past, but Sarkhan has been then, and done that, and now created his utopia, a Tarkir of Dragons He is finding out how much of a blessing or a curse that is. I don’t see him jaunting the multiverse any time soon. The exception, of course, might be to team up with his former enemies in Chandra and Jace to fight Bolas. More likely if Narset appears first. Card in Block No. Like a few others, if Sarkhan appears it will be as part of a larger contingent, and not likely to make it onto a card
Sorin Markov
Appearance in Story: No. This is set in stone. Card in Block: No.
Tamiyo
Appearance in Story: Might appear. Has been used quite smartly in Kaladesh as a contact point for the Gatewatch, both to direct people to them, and let people know about their existence. I have no doubt she’s probably off to find some more fascinating moons, but we’ll not find them on Amonkhet. Card in Block No. Unlikely to be appearing as a card, although like with Ajani in Kaladesh, her appearance is more likely to be off-screen, or in flashbacks.
Teferi
Appearance in Story: Technically no longer a planeswalker, Teferi sacrificed his spark to close rifts on Dominaria. So we won’t see him on Amonkhet. It’s unknown if he’s still alive. (spooky music) Card in Block: No. He can’t get there.
Tezzeret
Appearance in Story: Almost Certainly. Whatever Tezzeret’s plan, the planar bridge core technology seems to have been successfully integrated into his Etherium arm based on the clues from the Breaking Points story. And it’s clear he’s on some mission from Bolas, whether or not those are directly connected is unclear. So Tezzeret might be headed back to warn Bolas of the Gatewatch’s knowledge of him, or perhaps he simply went somewhere else (compleatly at random maybe?) to complete his Bolas-Task. Card in Block No. If he appears on Amonkhet it’s simply to give Bolas a heads up and then he’ll be off on some other mission, not worthy of a second card in as many blocks.
Tibalt
Appearance in Story: A possibility for color reasons, nothing more, nothing less. Another ‘walker that has no inherent hooks at this point, but this frees them up to appear wherever, whenever. With Sarkhan not so mad anymore, and Daretti ensconced on Fiora, there is a gap in the main roster for a Rakdos colored ‘walker, and Tibalt is well and truly secondary in black. He could also be included and remain mono-red, however the fit for the set should be balanced with the popular theory that Amonkhet is a Planeswalker factory for Bolas, which would suggest a higher likelihood to see new walkers. I think Tibalt is the most likely existing walker to appear as a sidereal character, in the mold of Arlinn or Kiora, woven into the narrative but in no way a vital part. Card in Block: May pop up in Amonkhet, paving the way for Hour of Devastation’s Bolas. Might be Mono-Red, might branch out into Black/red. Expect him to show up in the future, hopefully with a less experimental, or at least more playable Planeswalker card.
Ugin
Appearance in Story: The Archest of Bolas’s Arch-nemeses. I think it’s too early for Ugin to have to deal with probably his two biggest headaches, Bolas and the Gatewatch. As far as we know in story, Bolas thinks him pretty dead, as he had left Tarkir before Sarkhan coccooned him for the multiverse’s most supreme siesta on record. Look for Bolas to be very disoriented when he finds Professor X back in town.
Card in Block Would certainly be an amazing coup-de-gras for Ugin to appear out of nowhere in Hour of Devastation to throw Bolas for a loop. And we know that Wizards is occasionally a little too eager to throw relevant characters back in the mix rather than bide their time *Cough’rakul*. But I don’t expect Ugin in body or spirit.
Venser
Appearance in Story: His Spark lives on in Karn, but his all too human flesh lies fallen on New Phyrexia. Somewhat the sacrificial lamb to the narrative necessity of meaningful character death, it would undo much of Wizard’s previous efforts to bring him back, and it would need to be a sufficiently harrowing process for it to not seem cheap, so would require a story unto itself. Card in Block No.
Vraska
Appearance in Story: An intriguing possibility. One of few in the current roster who has been active in the Gatewatch era but we are yet to have seen. She is implicated in Gideon’s investigation (that lasted all of about a paragraph of story time so far), and Ral mentioned she ‘walked from Ravnica to somewhere untraceable. This does not seem to indicate Amonkhet, but who knows what precautions Bolas might have around his little petri-dish-plane that could cause it. Does Vraska have some dealings with Bolas? Tune in, and find out! Once again, I hope that the creative team are laying their hooks for future sets, but i might be wrong. Card in Block: If I am wrong and Vraska’s story *is* intertwined with Bolas’ then she is an immediate inclusion. With a Nissa card unlikely and Bolas in Grixis, Green is looking a little light, as is Black, after an almost entirely black-less Kaladesh Planeswalker roster. Otherwise, Vraska’s murders and mysterious planeswalking will be the entry point to a new set a little way down the line. (I’m looking at you, supposedly unimportant leaked pakaging images.)
Xenagos
Appearance in Story: Implausible to the point of impossible. Killed by Elspeth on Theros, already with a replacement in the RG slot in the roster with Arlinn Kord (and he was fighting with Domri, anyway), Not popular enough for fan demand to bring him back. Just Dead. Card in Block No.
