list of my personal canon divergences because i feel like this'll come in handy in the future. for somebody!!

--- i don't take anything from the anime. i can't emphasize this enough. what i write has nothing to do with the dn anime. even if you remember literally nothing else about my portrayal at least remember this. the anime didn't do anything particularly interesting that i care to implement heavily into my portrayal so i don't. the exception to this would be recognizing the anime-verse as a separate universe as the decade drama cds did, which i'm happy to involve for the sake of duplicate interactions. dupes are canon to dn, but the dn anime is not canon to my blog.

--- this one's in my rules but my daisuke is single by default. he still confessed, transformed, and was turned down by risa on his birthday, but he's past the point of overly pining for her for a bit like in canon and has finally accepted in his heart that risa will never like him in that way. they are still friends, (daisuke doesn't hate risa, there isn't any grudge between them, i'm firm about this,) and any interactions with any riku that happens to show up will also be taken as a friends first basis rather than auto-shipping. the same applies to dark; i'll let him string risa along similarly to the way he does in canon, but nothing can ever become 'official' between them for as long as daisuke isn't taken into account by risa herself.

--- likewise many canon events (such as the manga's towa arc or azumano land date arc) can be reframed and adjusted to be platonic happenings instead of expressly romantic. towa, argentine, baku, (alongside other non-manga canon artworks/characters like idea, the snowqueen, as well as sagami + maho) are included in my portrayal. i do not adhere strictly to 'one' line of canon and consider the light novels' and drama cds' happenings as varied incidents across the manga's overall timeline; my daisuke can and will recollect these incidents and bring them up if thread circumstances call for it.

--- my daisuke's transformations are triggered by all forms of love in tandem with his heartbeat, ie platonic, sensual, not just romantic or from just 'one person'. i put a lot of emphasis on daisuke being an agape lover so this is a particularly important divergence to me. personally. for the themes.

--- ^ going with that all canon homophobic dark is nixed from anything i write. idk why sugisaki was shopping for homophobia in the visual kei aisle but it's stupid. it's stupid and outdated. 'oh but he's a perv and has to focus on extending the niwa family line with descendants it makes sense he prefers women and is homop-' IT'S DUMB!! LEAVE THAT IN THE 90S!!! that being said my portrayal of dark in particular is x-gender. my pronoun usage for him is usually only he/him solely because he is, first and foremost an ore-sama character and it's funny to have an ore-sama ojou-sama in my head. his feelings of romance are also nigh expressly controlled by daisuke, junko/dn light novel style. he might seem to have a verbal femme lean but trust us if daisuke decides a guy is hot dark has no choice but to say okay i guess we're kissing boys now and he will enjoy it

--- along with that i don't really care for how sugisaki seemed to waffle so much with deciding whether or not dark was his own individual or a proper part of daisuke in the manga, so i lean towards junko's style of handling them instead. dark's feelings are either outright echoes or inversions of daisuke's, daisuke's feelings are either echoes or inversions of dark's. they're always in sync at their core and share bodies, feelings, memories, struggles, etc, and heavily, HEAVILY influence one another in operation whether they're individually asleep or conscious. 'daisuke' will always hold 'dark' within him and his words and actions just as 'dark' will always hold 'daisuke' within him and his words and actions. this is one of the most difficult parts of my muse to explain, but basically: they ARE the same singular character at their depths, just not always superficially.

--- in canon dark immediately disappears and goes to sleep after a niwa's romance is fulfilled, thereby 'lifting' the niwa curse. for my portrayal, dark doesn't do any of that and lingers on with daisuke even after any reciprocation. even though this can be easily explained in-verse by saying that daisuke and dark have already inextricably 'merged' into one another, (and… because daisuke was truly the first niwa to wholly accept and understand dark into himself/give himself and his life up to dark, they really have,) it's really mostly because i don't think any sort of extended interactions rp-wise with daisuke stuck missing dark from himself constantly would be any interesting, and i like it better for both dark and daisuke to be accepted as they are; as in, each other. del toro vc the monster doesn't need to turn into a boring fucking prince to be loved. i also just think it's rlly funny to watch people put up with the most embarrassing bf in the world (dark.) sugisaki was afraid of having a monster bird boy bf polycule in action but frankly i'm not. you get two in one.

--- my dark's appearance is (arguably?) canon divergent. his eyes will always be "daisuke's red" (instead of occasionally...randomly... purple) to go along with the fact that he and daisuke are meant to 'look at things with the same eyes([in the same way.])' his canines are sharper and pronounced giving them a fanged look, his eyes are always slit,(unless it's daisuke simply in a wig/disguise) and he does have the natural ability to extend his nails into talons/claws. he doesn't have fingerprints, his palm lines are faded/removed giving his hands a marble statue-like appearance, and his body temperature is always extremely cold. this is another important divergence to Me and it's not just to make him freaky monster hot (though it does do that yes tru) but also to put more emphasis on his operation as a beauty and the beast, beast archetype character. he is very NOT human no matter how deceptively close he gets to looking it; this is sad for both him (who wants to be human) and daisuke (who doesn't want to be a monster.)

--- for the wings in particular here's my wing meta. tldr though, wiz can still be used as a spare set of wings like in canon, but dark/daisuke have their own. in canon they're magic so they can just kinda materialize at will sometimes, but in my portrayal, they're very real and come from daisuke's back splitting open in a freak fashion. they can be touched, they can be held, etc, etc, love and gently brush your weird bird boy today.

--- daisuke being able to properly isekai and world jump (even through the arts) is technically canon divergent, but it works so well with him thereby becoming thematically a literal 'fallen angel' from 'another world' that i refuse to give it up. here's shoujo satan from my middleschool romance manga come to rapture your fine arts back to heaven/hell azumano.

--- this one's moreso for the future and i'll come back to revise this post depending on what ends up released, but if sugisaki decides to fuck around with post-canon for her new upcoming series, i probably won't care. my post canon verse will very likely remain as it is.

｢𓆄｣ "Well. That's not good." Days had come and gone so easily in Spirale, it was nice. But, the black smoke that gave rise to the city, had Hawks grabbing his agency issued walkie.

'Hawks, here. Somebody at the office want to report a fire? I don't need any backup, responding now. 'S probably just an electrical fire or something' The whipping of wind made it hard to make out if he said anything afterwards. But with fervor, Hawks sped over to the burning hi-rise building, expelling all the feathers he could. Which appeared just to be the little ones. Which was fine, those were strong enough to carry and drag people to safety.

Without much else he could do, the fire was still relatively small, he figured he'd be able to put it out himself and smother the flames. While it was his greatest weakness, the smallest of flames could consume the largest of cities, and preventing that was more of a concern than burning up his feathers.

Though, what was hopeful thinking ended up being far from the truth. This was very much premeditated, and a way to draw Hawks out of his patrol. Two of these criminals, one a thief and the other a mugger, were from a few weeks ago respectively. Hawks had previously stopped these two and now they've decided to team up as a play on some sort of stupid revenge?

"Oh, you've got to be kidding me." A sword is drawn and pointed their way, he'd have to take these two out quickly, if he wanted any hopes of stopping the fire where it stood.

"Didn't anyone tell you there's safety in numbers? Speed can only get you so far." And speed didn't help if you were surrounded.

And that's where it all went wrong. When he was knocked out shortly after their fight broke out.

A few days later that was when he woke up, given that he didn't end up in the blacks of the Abyss, but rather: the sterile whites of a hospital room, Hawks could assume he wasn't dead.

Though, when he went to cough, a sharp inhalation of ice cold oxygen made him realize he was fitted with a support mask. The smoke must've done a lot of damage to his lungs, which was fair, he didn't know how long he was out.

"Knock knock!" A nurse called in, gently rapping at his hospital door before opening it, the shock on her face evident as she entered the room. "Wow, maybe we were wrong to deny you visitors. With that mask, you won't be able to communicate your needs vocally, but there is a handy text-to-speech app on your phone. Tell me. How are you feeling?"

It's necessary small talk, to gauge how much pain he was in physically as well as maybe mentally. Which...Speaking of that, something was different. Memories that were clearly his that he couldn't remember before, though recounted to him by others, were finally his own. He'd just killed Jin and was basically thrown into a war. Pain etched the man's eyes, now reaching for his phone.

"Terrible." The mechanical voice chimed in as he typed away. "Not for the reasons you may think." His wings felt different too. Where his longest feathers used to be, they were now replaced by prosthetics. Probably to help him fly? He didn't know, but he couldn't try now. "Physically is a different story. Besides the burning sensation crawling on my back." Very intensely, mind you.

The nurse dutifully took notes of Hawks' condition on her clipboard as he spoke with him, filling out his chart to the best of her ability. "And what about visitors? We've had a couple people ask if they could see you, but denied them because your condition wasn't stable yet."

"No visitors." The deadpan text to speech voice answered far too quickly, which caused the nurse to raise her eyebrows. She had assumed maybe he'd want to see someone who requested to see him. But, no?

"I'll respect your wishes. Anyone who asks to see you will be denied until you tell us otherwise."

And for a couple of days, Hawks and this woman would have required back and forths. And on the last day, after some walking sessions, to ensure the pro-hero had enough strength to walk and carry himself, was the day he checked himself out of the hospital.

It was the middle of the night when he'd left, Hawks had to ensure he didn't run into anyone he knew, so that was his reasoning at least. And, once the crisp city air made contact with his face, he pushed off of the remnants of what had remained of his quirk to take to the skies. Hawks had a lot to mull over, he wasn't in a war now, which left him actually able to think about his actions.

And how he had to kill someone he knew was a good guy. None of them deserved to be in this war, they were all just rungs on the ladder for AFO, and that wasn't fair to any of them.

hc;; i can't believe i haven't made this post yet, but I haven't dug much into the mechanics side of the game, so better now than never. Since I have L.ink using handsigns to communicate, I think it's obvious that Lin.k should use signs to summon the various skill granted him by Ra.uru's arm. Different than typical for him, these will obviously be right-hand dominant rather than his usual left-hand dominant. Most of these signs are based on ASL, but I have tweaked some of them slightly to one-handed.

Ascend— (easily enough, this is just the 'ascend' handsign) pointer finger pointing up, starting from near his hip and traveling upward, remains pointing up until he is done using the power

Fuse— (roughly based 'connect' handsign ) left hand remains stationary with thumb connected to pointer finger and other fingers out; right hand reaches towards whatever he wants to fuse and then directs it towards the new object, finally fusing it by linking his hands together, thumb and pointer finger of his right hand finally connecting around the same fingers on his left hand

Ultra hand— (basically just the sign for 'grab' ) a sharp grabbing gesture direct at whatever he wants to manipulate, pulls his hand slightly towards himself and leaves his hand closed as he twists and turns whatever it is in space

Recall— ( based on the 'recall' ASL sign, but one-handed) right pointer finger taps at his temple before swinging sharply around in front of his chest, pointer finger remains in place until he's done using the ability or the power ends

Autobuild—( sign for 'build', again using two hands ) Right hand and left hand are level infront of his body, settles his right hand on top of his left hand, fingertips overlapping. Pressing his right hand down, the left hand gives away. Then the hands are reversed and the left hand presses down on the right

like it's just the way that outside of the BATB/POTO 'love what's ugly and ostracized' narrative itself cocteau was gay and everybody hated his gall about it, howard ashman was gay and had to conceal it and died of aids after finishing his work for disney's batb.... rather than have dark be homophobic and spitting in the face of his inspirational roots (the sole canon detail i can't stand) it's much much much more interesting for me to both read and write not someone who's meant to be a pervert (in humor) and an agape lover (in serious contextualization) only to turn and say 'no homo' to the crowd every single time but rather, instead of all that, someone who, simultaneously taking daisuke into account, is both extremely firm yet simultaneously insecure in the struggle to establish their identity not only in regards to themselves but also around others.

that applies to a lot, but i've been considering it especially in regards to dark's gender and daisuke's attractions. dark in my portrayal (while overall 500% nonbinary) is closer to someone bi-gender rather than agender; the feminine aspect to him isn't just theatrics, it's actively also part of his entirety to him, (compared to daisuke's passivity; the ten thousand canonical princess allusions,) and even if nobody ever recognizes it in a cognizant way, it is always, always there, the same way that erik blurs and obscures gender in leroux's novel (my second enormous inspiration, sugisaki's outright admitted primary) and sakurai occasionally discusses his relationship as both a performer and a person as well (my third enormous inspiration and sugisaki's secondary,) (see 1, 2.) simply put, the tragedy of (my!) dark does not ever derive from his being able to choose and sit comfortably and confidently with this sort of identity (in fact, it's one of the few things he can stubbornly, viciously decide for himself [alongside daisuke] as essentially a non-human, autonomous 'angel',) it's instead the way that his personality is so strong and 'anti-feminine' in the eyes of convention that said aspect of himself often gets disregarded for strictly masculine (and regardless, further self-contradictory and therefore isolating,) expectations.

dark himself alone does not care if others do not understand him; this is meant to be one of his far more admirable and impressive traits. he's staunchly independent: he knows who he is, what he's supposed to be, and he knows that if he actively presented himself more femininely (crossdressing to 'pass' essentially,) then people's behaviors WOULD be very likely to change around him, but he doesn't even do that because it goes against his overwhelming sense of pride. he never contorts, he never twists himself, what matters to him is that he and he alone understands himself and knows what he is, what he isn't. but he is, without proper support or acceptance, still alone. even bearing a strong character, the stifling loneliness and inherent, underlying self-sense of broken/wrongness of the 'other,' (god's luciferean problem child, the black sheep, the black-leather wearing punk,) is still inflicted on him. dark exists solely for himself, he exists solely for daisuke, which is simultaneously wherein the inversion and insecurities lie: if dark is canonically the live metaphor for all the aspects of daisuke's self that he attempts to and yet cannot possibly, conceivably repress, from his loves to his faults to his shames and his criminal sins as a thief, then the likes of daisuke's own personal confusions in regards to himself and his attempts at intimacy/socialization with others is the other, hidden side of dark's absolute self-confidence; it's every fear of perpetual isolation, misunderstanding, and abandonment for things outside of daisuke's own control.

queerness in relation to the self (transgender allegory) queerness in relation to others (non-hetero-romanticism) mental illness (depression, anxiety,) etc, etc, dark's thematic basis may at its most general simply be "a secret that feels wrong and that you feel you can't really tell anyone or else you'll get in trouble/won't be as liked as much" but it feels much better to give due respect to each of these primary roots.

Vash's Spiramonster: TOMBI

TOMBI is just a little guy. ń_ǹ."

TOMBI's appearance is a bit deceiving: its "teeth" are actually soft flaps of skin, and he is in fact completely toothless. A headbutt from its thick skull would likely cause more damage than its gummy bite, but TOMBI is extremely averse to fighting to the point where it does not know any damaging moves. While naturally quite a shy and timid creature, TOMBI is absurdly loyal and will rarely ever disobey commands, even if his own health is demanded to the point of self-KO. Additionally, he boasts a high amount of HP, which he utilizes for his supportive moves. Vash loves this little guy, and would welcome anyone asking for a copy of him. He's not explaining whatever's up with the glowing markings on it, though.

Lo(o)se Tail — Technically, either a passive ability or a commanded move. TOMBI's tail is dense and detachable. Attacks directed toward the tail do not affect TOMBI's base HP, but it can only suffer a finite amount of damage before it is rendered unusable. TOMBI can also be commanded to detach the tail (ie: TOMBI is caught by the tail, or an opposing Spiramonster has latched onto it), but this comes at a price: its heavy tail is used as a counterbalance to its massive skull, therefore if detached, TOMBI will be highly prone to toppling over. (And crying. A lot. See 'Tantrum'). TOMBI's tail will only regenerate when it is swapped out for another Spiramonster, since it has performance anxiety.

Tantrum — TOMBI takes a pratfall, wailing loudly and making a big deal out of it. This pathetic display draws opponent Spiramonster attention, putting them in a state of confusion and aggression. Affected Spiramonsters' attacks will be directed solely toward TOMBI until the enraged Spiramonsters are switched out for another.

Defender — A sharp rush of agility and speed overtakes TOMBI, set to defend another Spiramonster. It will throw itself into the way of harm to protect its target. The buff lasts until TOMBI's tail is severed or detached, or if TOMBI is commanded to use Tantrum. When TOMBI's tail is detached, it no longer has access to this move.

Grand Restore — A healing move. The amount of health restored is equivalent to the amount of health TOMBI sacrifices of itself. If ordered, TOMBI will KO himself to heal the target. This move cures confusion and enraged statuses for both the user and the target. TOMBI must make physical contact with his head onto the target for this move to work. TOMBI's underbelly markings will glow while using this move.

Drain Orb — When pushed to its utmost limits, TOMBI may use this last-resort move. A dark core of gravity appears in its mouth, sucking in nearby allies and foes alike to its epicenter. Before anyone can get close enough to get absorbed, however, TOMBI will become overwhelmed with fear and snap its jaws shut, swallowing the attack before it can cause any damage. It will have hiccups for the rest of the battle. This is the only move TOMBI will not willingly perform on command.
