WOAHHH GUERILLA SHI IN MY INBOX alkadk this one actually isn't too difficult to answer but i will disclaim that i haven't played HSR in such a long time and penacony was around where i started falling off, so my HSR lore might be a bit fuzzy. anyways, that aside, one of the most important manga arcs (imo) is baku's (as in a dream eater baku) and their whole thing is veeeery similar aesthetically to penacony's dreamscape in some regards. dark gets a face full of it by surprise at first meeting and here's his reaction

it's somewhat ironic that the phantom thief who's meant to be part 'magician' in occupation finds the more surrealist/light-hearted 'circus' aesthetic gauche, but it's also completely true to his character; he craves class and mature, sensual elegance, he wants confident, grounded subtlety that seductively catches the eye, and not the sort of harsh, las vegas style neon-noise that penacony's filled up to its corners with. between all of the flashing lights and slot machines, the creepy mascots worshipped everywhere, the talking food and walking billboards, the drunkards puking literal rainbows, everything to him is 'too much' and therefore unbearably annoying. to him, it's all forcefully trying to snatch for attention (which he hates!) and fundamentally feels like it's trying to distract from the uglier parts of the city, which are the sorts of places he knows (that as a criminal!) he's going to have to crawl though and thereby witness the absolute worst of. dark is not a gambler or an easy addict, he's not an escapist, (just an escape artist,) he's not even an unjaded innocent --- which is why it's only daisuke who would look at penacony with oblivious wonder and think it was amazing (at least at first,) just like with baku ^ up there.

anyways, back to dark since this was supposed to be mostly about him. he's always the more suspicious and guarded half, but his senses are still good. there'd be a constant deep nausea and malaise that he couldn't shake off (yet couldn't quite name) inside of the dreamscape. for him, something bad is definitely lurking, and not even the quieter rooftops he'd take refuge upon can dispel that feeling. penacony at its base feels hollow and inverted; dark would be sharp enough to realize that he's pretty much a bird in a fishbowl or a fish in a bird cage, penacony itself being a repurposed prison (and a literal portmanteau of 'penalty colony') iirc. the controlling families within it don't bother him, he deals with people like those all the time and has his own pride as a solo thief, but it's hard for him not to feel something else --- just a drop, of pity, a little hollow and apathetic snideness, for the rest of the people wandering about the dreamscape. the ones who wholeheartedly love it, who gave up their real lives to live in a dream, the ones who don't want to face anything and only want to enjoy themselves, the small avoidances that can so easily turn into deeper problems. to quote his watching everyone during insomnia arc:

'they're gonna live like that forever. i don't know whether that'd be fun or not.' for dark and likewise daisuke, they can always leave a place like penacony as readily as they arrive. the only real 'rule' is that because it's a dream, daisuke's form becomes even more flimsy and 98% of the time he's going to be dark since dark himself is daisuke's dream. dark alone wouldn't want to say any longer than they ever had to in a place like penacony, though--- for him the whole place is just one long eldritch-escher nightmare. it fundamentally offends just about all of his aesthetics and his personal character!!

hc;; i can't believe i haven't made this post yet, but I haven't dug much into the mechanics side of the game, so better now than never. Since I have L.ink using handsigns to communicate, I think it's obvious that Lin.k should use signs to summon the various skill granted him by Ra.uru's arm. Different than typical for him, these will obviously be right-hand dominant rather than his usual left-hand dominant. Most of these signs are based on ASL, but I have tweaked some of them slightly to one-handed.

Ascend— (easily enough, this is just the 'ascend' handsign) pointer finger pointing up, starting from near his hip and traveling upward, remains pointing up until he is done using the power

Fuse— (roughly based 'connect' handsign ) left hand remains stationary with thumb connected to pointer finger and other fingers out; right hand reaches towards whatever he wants to fuse and then directs it towards the new object, finally fusing it by linking his hands together, thumb and pointer finger of his right hand finally connecting around the same fingers on his left hand

Ultra hand— (basically just the sign for 'grab' ) a sharp grabbing gesture direct at whatever he wants to manipulate, pulls his hand slightly towards himself and leaves his hand closed as he twists and turns whatever it is in space

Recall— ( based on the 'recall' ASL sign, but one-handed) right pointer finger taps at his temple before swinging sharply around in front of his chest, pointer finger remains in place until he's done using the ability or the power ends

Autobuild—( sign for 'build', again using two hands ) Right hand and left hand are level infront of his body, settles his right hand on top of his left hand, fingertips overlapping. Pressing his right hand down, the left hand gives away. Then the hands are reversed and the left hand presses down on the right

imo, this one's subjective --- the easiest (most obvious, largest, immediate, what have you,) to say would be a shared "it's them lying about being each other," because very few can ever seem to swallow that dark would ever be daisuke (to the extent that dark is daisuke,) or daisuke would ever be dark, (to the extent that daisuke is dark) but that's the truth of it. i want to go for something different, so i will: in daisuke's case, one of the biggest lies he tells is lying to himself about what he wants, but for dark, it's lying to others about what they want.

to start off with, being a phantom thief means you're going to lie. a lot. it's daisuke's grandfather (and dark's 18th incarnation/tamer) who even says that the duty of a phantom thief is to sometimes lie to make people happy. daisuke's naturally very bad at this given his clumsy and sincere personality, dark is an absolute expert.

all of daisuke's issues can be summed up in the way that he initially blames, accuses, and tries to decry dark alone as "the bad thing" --- i specify that vaguely because ie in the vampire au drama cds, daisuke tries to cry out to dark that he isn't a vampire or a thief when he's literally been both a vampire and a thief for a while as he's talking. part of this stems from his dire lack of self confidence --- he's the only one who'll ever say that he's "not dark" when he's... literally dark. like transformed with dark's face and still got all his family training and crazy insane shounen level physical capacity and everything. saying he isn't dark is lying to himself on like six different dimensions. it takes him pretty much the entirety of the series to build both enough self-confidence and acceptance to get over the lie, but he does it in the end. up until then? he doesn't even realize just how much of dark's actions are either literally his, or outright controlled/influenced by him.

it's always dark's consciousness itself that scolds, insults, or smacks daisuke back into shape since dark automatically shares and therefore whatever daisuke is both feeling and thinking. daisuke can't hide anything from dark in that case, and it makes the lie of his(dark's) being rejected sting, though dark is deeply avoidant and never talks about his personal problems even with daisuke. dark is, however, someone who is exceptionally picky about his lies. for example, he doesn't want to lie to anybody he feels close to and that he trusts. he absolutely cannot lie to daisuke. (though he's still evasive and quickly changes topics if things grow uncomfortable.)

the ones that dark does lie to are those like girls or his eager fans who ask him for dates or to come see them again-- he lies to them and makes all sorts of empty promises, saying 'of course, i will.' again, time is something completely outside of dark's control. he doesn't have his own body, he can only borrow his tamer's, so there's absolutely no way he could go to anyone or anywhere in his free time even if he wanted to, and hell even THAT "want" is controlled/deeply influenced still by his tamer's heart and emotion.

dark says he does all of this so that 'every girl can be happy,' but daisuke recognizes it as problematic playboy behavior and hates it, so the two are at opposite ends in that regard. it's still a huge, enormous lie for dark to make promises that literally are outside of his own power to even be able to keep just so that people will keep swooning and dreaming/thinking of him, about as ridiculous as daisuke trying to insist that he's nothing like dark when he's everything like dark to anybody else in the audience paying attention.

Vash's Spiramonster: TOMBI

TOMBI is just a little guy. ń_ǹ."

TOMBI's appearance is a bit deceiving: its "teeth" are actually soft flaps of skin, and he is in fact completely toothless. A headbutt from its thick skull would likely cause more damage than its gummy bite, but TOMBI is extremely averse to fighting to the point where it does not know any damaging moves. While naturally quite a shy and timid creature, TOMBI is absurdly loyal and will rarely ever disobey commands, even if his own health is demanded to the point of self-KO. Additionally, he boasts a high amount of HP, which he utilizes for his supportive moves. Vash loves this little guy, and would welcome anyone asking for a copy of him. He's not explaining whatever's up with the glowing markings on it, though.

Lo(o)se Tail — Technically, either a passive ability or a commanded move. TOMBI's tail is dense and detachable. Attacks directed toward the tail do not affect TOMBI's base HP, but it can only suffer a finite amount of damage before it is rendered unusable. TOMBI can also be commanded to detach the tail (ie: TOMBI is caught by the tail, or an opposing Spiramonster has latched onto it), but this comes at a price: its heavy tail is used as a counterbalance to its massive skull, therefore if detached, TOMBI will be highly prone to toppling over. (And crying. A lot. See 'Tantrum'). TOMBI's tail will only regenerate when it is swapped out for another Spiramonster, since it has performance anxiety.

Tantrum — TOMBI takes a pratfall, wailing loudly and making a big deal out of it. This pathetic display draws opponent Spiramonster attention, putting them in a state of confusion and aggression. Affected Spiramonsters' attacks will be directed solely toward TOMBI until the enraged Spiramonsters are switched out for another.

Defender — A sharp rush of agility and speed overtakes TOMBI, set to defend another Spiramonster. It will throw itself into the way of harm to protect its target. The buff lasts until TOMBI's tail is severed or detached, or if TOMBI is commanded to use Tantrum. When TOMBI's tail is detached, it no longer has access to this move.

Grand Restore — A healing move. The amount of health restored is equivalent to the amount of health TOMBI sacrifices of itself. If ordered, TOMBI will KO himself to heal the target. This move cures confusion and enraged statuses for both the user and the target. TOMBI must make physical contact with his head onto the target for this move to work. TOMBI's underbelly markings will glow while using this move.

Drain Orb — When pushed to its utmost limits, TOMBI may use this last-resort move. A dark core of gravity appears in its mouth, sucking in nearby allies and foes alike to its epicenter. Before anyone can get close enough to get absorbed, however, TOMBI will become overwhelmed with fear and snap its jaws shut, swallowing the attack before it can cause any damage. It will have hiccups for the rest of the battle. This is the only move TOMBI will not willingly perform on command.
