The Orange Joe Experience

so i tried orange joe from omori, which is just coffee and orange juice mixed together. here was how it went: my combinations and overall conclusion.

so i had 12 oz of coffee made earlier today that i left in the fridge for a while so it was cold, orange juice, and orange soda.

from what i’ve learned online there were some tips to make it actually taste good:

use cold brew coffee instead of iced coffee (i did not do this. cold brew literally takes 12 hours to do at home and i wanted to do this today. i don’t know how cold brew coffee tastes or how it’s different in any way other than being cold. so i don’t know how much it mattered.)

use more orange juice than coffee

alternatively use orange soda

don’t use milk

so my first combination was orange juice + coffee. i was aware of the tip but i still wanted to try half and half. so i did half and half.

so i tried it! and i died on the spot-

i’m kidding it was literally fine. nothing amazing but like not even that bad. i honestly was expecting so much worse.

tbh the orange juice overwhelmed a lot of the coffee taste. You could still kinda taste it? but it was more orange juice. I even tried adding more coffee. and yeah it still tasted pretty much the same. i would have added more orange juice than coffee but the orange juice taste was already a lot more than the coffee at that point i think i would have just tasted orange juice kdjshfg

second combination was orange soda + coffee. again i did half and hald

gonna be honest. basically the same thing. just fizzy. i mean it makes sense its just orange again. but yeah. i tried adding more coffee but again nothing different happened.

honestly i went into this expecting to fucking die but there was literally nothing special. it just tasted a bit weird.

in some attempt to have like. any remotely entertaining reaction to it. i added milk. the one thing i was told not to add. AND! *drum roll*

literally nothing. it tasted more like nothing and bland than before. LMAO

i tried more of orange soda and orange juice but like i expected all it did was just overwhelm any coffee flavor even more.

thinking about it now maybe i could have added sugar? to make it taste a bit sweeter? idk. if you have any recommendations lemme know i’ll try it maybe next weekend cause now i have extra orange juice and orange soda lmao

i was honestly expecting a lot worse. so did my mom lmao. she thought the same as i did after she tried it. i had very low expectations and it did not surpass them in either direction. was neither horrible or even bad but it wasn’t like delicious either.

tldr: it. was fine. literally nothing special. wasn’t bad but wasn’t exactly good either. i could chug a glass of it without gagging or anything, no problems, but it’s not like it was particularly good either. just. fine.

side effects: none that i can pinpoint on the orange joe specifically. my tummy is not feeling normal but i can’t tell if i’m hungry or if my body is slowly starting a riot because of what i did to it. my head feels a bit weird but that has also happened when i’m hungry and is often made worse when i get onto electronics. so can’t 100% blame that on the orange joe. i did need to go to the bathroom but no i did not shit my brains out i just needed to pee because for once in my life i happened to drink a good amount of water today (it was kinda hot in my room)

I know I usually talk about crocs, but this is too good not to share. A new giant basilosaurid whale with weird anatomy from the Eocene of Peru. Perucetus colossus is a peculiar animal. It's bones were incredibly thick and incredibly dense, very much unlike those of modern whales and even more extreme than even those of the thicker basilosaurids (aptly named Pachycetinae i.e. thick whales). These adaptations have been compared to modern manatees and dugongs. Know the weight range is highly dependent on what you base the math on. Using manatees as a proxy, you get a weight of "only" 85 tons....using extreme values for whales a whopping 340 tons. Mean values for whales a still really big 180 tons. This could indicate that Perucetus rivaled the Blue Whale as the worlds heaviest animal ever.

The ecology is poorly understood tho. We know basilosaurids preferred coastal waters, and with all the similarities to manatees it is reasonable to assume that Perucetus was a shallow water animal itself. It also likely wasn't the fastest swimmer. And the lack of a skull basically means we can't say much on its diet. We can wager a guess and say it wasn't a predator because, you know....it also likely wasn't a grazer. Cool as it would be, we don't really have herbivorous whales like that so its incredibly unlikely. The two more likely suggestions are that it lived on small animals burried in the ocean floor, sorta like a grey whale. Or that it was a scavenger like a sleeper shark (tho I find that suggestion far less likely, giving me scavenging T.rex vibes ngl). But again, once we get a skull we can talk about this better.

Sidenote I do find the name a little underwhelming. It's a bizarre animal and the best we could come up with is "Colossal whale from Peru". I'm also not a mammal person, but from what I'm being told the silhouette is a little exaggerated and it wasn't necessarily that thick in life.

finished watching percy jackson over the weekend:

i get what they are going for but i was. disappointed with suburban dad Poseidon ngl. underwhelming. c'mon guys.

oh [REDACTED]s betrayal just did not hit right. i was looking forward to it bcos they beefed up the early stages of their relationship a bit but. idk some kind of major reluctance all through the show to have Percy not figure stuff for himself and they really shot themselves in the foot on this one?? how did they fuck this up so badly.

Ngl when I first watched the Jinx vs Vi fight in ep3 I was lowkey disappointed cause I found it a bit underwhelming. Like I expected something idk more dramatic after the s1 buildup.But now rewatching and mulling it over, I think that's the intent.

Despite everything, they don't want to actually fight each other. Vi accuses Jinx of making orphans of kids cause she doesn't actually want to bring up the blood of Claggor, Mylo and Vander (which is equally traumatizing for Vi for those reasons and also cause of the Slap afterwards). When they fight, it quickly devolves into a kid fight with slaps and pulled punches and shit. Fishbones malfunctions and throws Jinx against a pillar and Vi is immediately there to stop her fall. Even the up to the moment with Isha it's like - Vi there were quite a number of things you could've done if you actually wanted to kill Jinx which may or may not invoke harm to Isha. When Caitlyn comes guns ablazing Jinx lets Vi stop the gun and give her her back. Jinx decries when Sevika goes and activates the bombs suggesting she changed her mind about it (wanted to talk? is this another "what could've been" moment?)

The truth is she didn't want to fight, Jinx didn't want to fight, and the fight itself carries less weight as a result. Really what that fight represented a venting of emotions and such for both Vi and Jinx, taking out all of their own frustrations with themselves and each other. Actually good show not tell.
