Introducing the new Henry County STEM
High School coming to Downtown Stockbridge! ❤️
The new Henry County STEM School vision is best in class excellence and should be the finest high school facility in the state of Georgia when it opens in 2027!
The Henry County school system confirmed the demolition and construction bids were currently being solicited for a fall start date, if all goes well. Funding will be provided in the E-Splost with $45 million initially approved for the project but understanding the economy and construction bid escalations involved with the Stockbridge Amphitheater and Henry County Aquatic Center, I fully expect the final price tag will be north of $60 million or more with inflation rendering the initial project estimates insufficient.
Planned improvements to South Lee St. Include extending the existing 10 foot multi use paths along the full frontage of the project along South Lee St. Plus the City of Stockbridge would like to see appropriate trails on the grounds of the project instead of traditional sidewalks for bike riding & golf cart riding to school emphasizing connectivity. In fact we would like to extend the 10 foot trails all the way to Rock Quarry Rd along South Lee Street connecting to the upcoming Rock Quarry Rd trails. The Rock Quarry Rd widening project starts this winter and should be finished when the STEM School opens in 2027. Imagine students & staff in the Eagles Landing Country Club area taking a golf cart, bike, or scooter to the Henry County STEM School making the project as green friendly as possible with EV charging stations as well.
Our goal in Stocking is to be the most walkable and green friendly community in south metro along the I-75 corridor. That begins with a solid plan and commitment for walkability, pedestrian safety including street lights, and green friendly planning.
Finally, I believe it should include a pedestrian bridge from the STEM School campus across North Henry Blvd to the Stockbridge Amphitheater and City Hall Campus for safe passage along the busy corridor for students and guests. Stockbridge has a million dollars in funding allocated for the pedestrian bridge in T-Splost and Federal Grant awards. I look forward to this transformative STEM School Project being the best educational facility in the state of Georgia when completed in 2027. We are leaning forward to assist as “One Henry” together!

Courtesy MHF News:
The STEM high school plans to offer advanced curriculum for students through three pathways. They are the following:
Aerospace, with a concentration in electrical engineering,
Biotechnology & medical science, and
Sustainability and green energy.
The district plans to offer a “demanding accelerated curriculum, featuring a rigorous sequence of AP courses and integration of university-level research content,” at the STEM high school. They continue work to develop the final course plan that each pathway will follow. The school will also offer the full accompaniment of fine arts, such as band and orchestra, for students. There are no plans for the school to compete in athletics.
When complete, the high school will be able to support an enrollment of 900–1,000 students. Students from throughout Henry County will be eligible to attend the STEM school. In addition, the district will offer transportation for its students. Henry County Schools plans to utilize a lottery when determining which students are selected to attend the school. More details about the lottery will be available closer to the school’s opening.
Students at the STEM school will attend the new school for all classes. It will be their high school of record. This is different than the current Academy for Advanced Studies. Academy students attend their home high school, based on their residence, for half of the day.

Paris Saint-Germain Opens a New Store Location With Lids in Miami
Tumblr media
France’s most successful football club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has unveiled a new permanent store location in Miami, which will be run and operated by leading hat retailer, Lids.
Following the successful opening of the Fanatics and Lids-operated PSG flagship store in New York in early 2022, the new Miami store will be located at 1024 Lincoln Rd, Miami Beach, FL United States 33139. To coincide with the Miami store opening, the new PSG X Nike Home Kit will launch on 5/31, offering passionate football and fashion fans the opportunity to secure the highly anticipated release the day it’s available.
As part of the club’s long-term partnership with Lids and Fanatics, Lids oversees the operations for PSG store locations to create a unique and consistent retail experience worldwide for sports fanatics and fashion enthusiasts alike to enjoy.
“PSG is an iconic franchise, and we are thrilled to take this next step in our partnership,” said Lawrence Berger, Co-Founder and Partner at Ames Watson, owner of Lids, and Chairman of FanzzLids Holdings. “Miami is a city that truly appreciates sports and is a great fit for this new PSG store location. The reaction from consumers has been positive around the world to our New York, and Europe locations. We can’t wait for Miami residents to stop by and see the unique features of this new store for themselves.”
The Miami store will feature team jerseys, headwear, accessories, one-of-a-kind collaborations, fashion collections, and more. The store will also include customization stations, a signature feature available in most Lids retail stores, where consumers can customize their products on-site.
"Football is booming in the US as the country is gearing up organizing an amazing World Cup in 2026. We are delighted to be part of the journey with ambitious projects of PSG stores to swarm all over the US.
After the launch of the PSG Academy US in 2014 and the successful 2015, 2016 and 2017 Summer tours, setting up a new store in Miami is a milestone for the Club. It brings us closer to our fans in the Magic city. As the only international sports franchise to establish our own retail stores worldwide, we are determined to continue our expansion with Lids, especially in the US, a priority market for the Club." - added Fabien Allègre, Chief Brand Officer, Paris Saint-Germain.
The Miami store opening comes just days after the unveiling of Paris Saint-Germain's lifestyle capsule collection with internationally renowned Colombian designer Estaban Cortazar, launched alongside the Miami Formula 1 Grand Prix.

London Boy
summary: Y/n finds herself all the way across the pond, trying to escape OBX. But much to her surprise, a certain someone might get in the way.
pairing: Rafe x reader (just an intro in this part, we’ll get there dw)
warnings: swearing, drinking, some mentions of anxiety?
word count: 3.2k
a/n: if you’re a sucker for a slow burn like me, buckle up and enjoy the ride. I plan on this being multiple parts and this is also my first time posting so please be gentle with me lol :’-) (not canon Rafe)
Tumblr media
You huffed as you dragged your extra large and definitely overweight luggage down to the pickup area at Heathrow airport. You had just landed in London where you’d be going to school until the holidays.  You had decided to apply for, and actually got accepted into, your high school’s British exchange program. Every year Kildare Academy gave the option for 15 seniors to study for half the school year at Westheath Academy in London, a private boarding school, while 15 kids from their school came to yours. Normally, you wouldn’t have dreamed of leaving your friends and family for that long, not to mention missing out on half of senior year at home. But ever since the drama that erupted during the summer after your junior year that ended with you being shunned by your “friend group” (where they really ever your friends to begin with?), you practically jumped at the opportunity to get as far away from the Outer Banks as possible, albeit for a little while.
You didn’t know at all what to expect at Westheath, you had skipped the predeparture orientation at Kildare a few weeks ago, but you didn’t care - didn’t care who was going or what Westheath was like, all that mattered was that for the next few months you could finally breath. It was the clean slate you desperately needed, a chance to finally be around people and places you hadn’t known since birth. Sure there were going to be 14 other kids from Kildare there as well, but you had zero intentions of sticking with your OBX peers over the next few months. You weren’t going to let your small town suffocate you for a second longer if you could help it.
You double checked the license plate on your phone screen as the Uber you ordered pulled up.
“Y/N?” the driver called out from the front-right window (god that was going to take some getting used to.)
“Yep!” you smiled, huffing as you tried to pick up your luggage and step off the curb. Thankfully the uber driver was quick to your rescue, effortlessly lifting your suitcase into the trunk of the car. Leave it to you to overpack without even thinking to leave room for all of the clothes and souvenirs you were certain to accumulate - oh well, an excuse for a new suitcase you supposed.
Not in the mood for small talk, you were relieved that the Uber driver silently read your mind, playing a pop station as you both respectfully ignored each other’s presence. You anxiously tapped your thumb on your phone, eyes flicking between the screen where you watched your route progress and the view out your window of townhomes, pubs, and countless strangers passing by.
You hadn’t felt anxious about leaving for London the entire first half of junior year, so why was your stomach and head simultaneously churning now? You were so excited to experience a version of life that was the opposite of everything you were trying to get away from - a version of life that involved British accents, buzzing city life, and endless possibilities. But it was all of a sudden dawning on you how unfamiliar it all was. As much as you hated to admit it to yourself, no matter how far you ran, you would never be able to fully separate yourself from OBX. That damned small beach-town would always be a part of you, an inextricable thread in the fabric of your life.
The Uber pulled up to a halt in front of your destination. You hesitantly glanced out your window as you double checked the silver number on the building. Yep, 25 Brampton Rd - you were here. The Uber driver graciously lifted your suitcase out of the trunk for you and as he pulled away you let out a long breath - your fresh start was waiting behind the doors in front of you.
You rang the doorbell to the lobby, the security here no joke. You were soon buzzed into the building and you shakily pulled your suitcase in behind you, desperately trying to calm your nerves to no avail.
“Hi,” you croaked out as you approached the man seated at the front desk. “I’m- uhh here to check in to my apartment- uh I mean flat… I think… I’m with the Kildare Academy exchange,” you rambled, cheeks flushing with embarrassment. Despite your best efforts, your anxiety was taking over.
The man gave you a sympathetic smile. “Name please?”
“Y/n L/n,” you replied, pulling your lips into a sheepish straight-lined smile as you mindlessly tapped your fingers on the handle of your suit case.
“L/n, L/n, L/n,” the man quietly muttered under his breath as his pen traced over a list of names. “Ahh here you are. Alright Miss L/n, here is a fob, this lets you into the building, now this key lets you into your flat, you’ll be on the second floor - apartment 2C, and this key is for your individual room,” he began to fire off at you as he rounded the desk and came to grab your suitcase, beginning to walk as you hastily followed suit. “This packet will tell you everything you need to know about our building here - wifi, laundry, trash days,” he shoved some papers in your hand as you both entered the elevator, him pressing the button for the second floor.
You emerged on to your floor and a few steps later you two were at the door of your new home, which the man quickly unlocked gesturing for you to step inside. “And this, Miss L/n, is your flat for the next few months with us here at Westheath. Your room is the second right down the hall there and I believe you’re the first here. Two of your flatmates who are yet to check in are from Kildare, such as yourself, and the other two are students of our own here at Westheath. You know I’m surprised how early you are, classes don’t start until next week! But nevertheless I’ll let you get settled,” you stood staring blankly at your new surroundings, more or less registering the words this man was firing off at you.
“I’m Richard by the way, if you ever need anything you know where to find me,” the man extended his hand toward you.
“Thank you,” you smiled, accepting his handshake.
“Welcome to Westheath,” he smiled back and just as quickly was turning on his heel and back out the door before you could get in another word, leaving you in your new flat by yourself.
You slowly walked through the empty place, meandering through the kitchen and living area, down the hall, peaking into the bathroom, and then finding your way to your room. It certainly wasn’t the type of living arrangement you were used to back home - your family lived on Figure 8 in the Outer Banks meaning you had grown up surrounded by mansions and luxuries. This place was small, simple, and yet it was cozy and well… perfect. It was the exact opposite of your Figure 8 life and that alone was enough to make you love it. You smiled, content, as you sank on to your empty bed, taking in your new room. You had a nice sized desk, a decent shelf, and a wardrobe. Simple and sufficient. You could get used to this. The room was starkly barren, but since school wasn’t set to start for another week and no one was here yet you made a mental note to go on a little mission to find some plants and decorations to bring the white box that was your room a bit more to life.
—-
Three days had passed and still your other flat mates had yet to show. You were starting to wonder if they ever would or if you’d end up living in this flat all by yourself. Your room was now decorated, you had found some cute posters in a shop you had wandered into, some plants in another, and string lights in a third. You had acquainted yourself with the grocery store around the corner and the drug store down the street and you’d even gone on the tube all by yourself.
Being on your own these last few days had been decidedly therapeutic, leaving you unable to contain a cheesy grin every time it hit you that you were actually here, in London, far far away from OBX. But you couldn’t help feeling a little lonely, with a passing hello to Richard every time you left and returned to the building being your main source of human interaction these last few days.
You laid on your bed as you debated the decision you were about to make - you would’ve never dared to use Tinder back home. You knew virtually everyone on the island and would’ve been absolutely mortified to match with anybody there. But hey - you were in London baby! This was a fresh start and nothing was off limits. You sighed and gave in, downloading the app and quickly making a profile. You must’ve rearranged the order of your pictures at least a dozen times before you finally decided it was good enough. You started to swipe, an endless supply of British boys at your finger tips. You couldn’t suppress a chuckle at how funny the whole concept was, your inbox already flooding with cheesy pick up lines from your matches. You spent the next hour going back and forth with these boys, silly, meaningless, flirty conversations - god it was so much easier being a flirt through a screen, you would be positively flushed in the face in person, unless you were drunk of course (your drunk self was a dangerously confident flirt for sure).
Liam: are you free tonight? Down to grab a drink and chat?
Oh wow. Straight to the point wasn’t he. You knew the point of the app was to eventually get off it and meet up with someone, but now that you were met with the opportunity, your stomach was flipping upside down. Fuck it, what do you have to lose?
Y/n: yeah that sounds great, I’m in Hammersmith if you wanted to go somewhere there?
Liam: perfect so am I (: 8pm at The Ladle. See you there xx
Pure adrenaline coursed through your body as you started doing your hair and makeup, throwing clothes all around your small room to find the perfect outfit that was cute but simultaneously made it seem like you weren’t trying too hard. You threw your wallet and keys in your purse, chugged the glass of wine you had been casually sipping on by yourself, and quickly headed out the door before you could overthink it and change your mind.
——
You nervously approached the bar that Google Maps had directed to you, not sure what you were getting yourself into, but you had already walked all the way here so you’d be damned if you didn’t see it through.
“Y/n?” a voice called out to you. God, hearing your name in that accent sent shivers down your spine.
“Yeah that’s me, Liam?” you questioned back, staring up at the fluffy browned-hair boy approaching you.
“That’s me,” he winked, extending his arm out to you which you nervously grabbed, as he led you into The Ladle, spotting an empty table for the two of you.
“So Y/n, what are you doing here in London. Something tells me you’re not from here?”the boy across from you smiled as you two got settled in your seats.
“Hmmm I wonder what could’ve ever given it away,” you replied with a sarcastic smile, American accent in full force. “But I’m here for school, on an exchange at Westheath Academy.”
“Oh shit, that means we’ll see each other around. I’m finishing up my last year actually. And somehow you’re the first American I’ve had the pleasure of being on a date with,” he smiled with a devilish grin that felt like it was burning into you, you hoping the flush on your cheeks wasn’t too obvious with the dim lighting.
“Lucky me,” you smiled back, faking a sly confidence as best you could despite the fact that you were all nerves on the inside. Dating was not something you were familiar with, having maybe gone on two back home, if those even counted.
“First round on me, what are you drinking tonight Y/n?”
“Umm a vodka cran is fine,” you replied to which you were immediately met with a scoff.
“No way babe, you’re in a pub in England now. Should’ve figured as much coming from an American like you,” he chuckled with a shake of his head, his fluffy hair bouncing with it. “I’m getting you a pint,” he asserted, walking over to the bar and giving you a moment to breath and collect yourself. You hated beer but weren’t about to put up a fight, at this point you would down just about any alcohol in order to get some more liquid courage in your system.
He quickly returned, placing the tall glass of golden-colored liquid in front of you.
“Cheers, to new school mates,” he winked extending his glass up to yours.
“To new school mates,” you smiled back, bringing your glass to clink with his, taking a long swig and trying not to grimace at the taste of the liquid going down your throat.
——
The night passed by quickly, you and Liam going through three rounds of drinks as you both laughed and bantered with one another, your nerves all but dissipated by the alcohol now coursing through your bloodstream. Heck, the beer was even starting to taste… good? God you barely recognized yourself anymore, but in the best possible way. One by one you were letting the closely guarded walls you had built up over the years in OBX fall, and you were feeling better than ever before - you felt free.
You and Liam stumbled back arms linked to the building you found out you were both living in, Liam on the fourth floor. You rummaged for the fob in your purse and you both got on the elevator, Liam instinctively pressing both your floor numbers. The elevator dinged opening to your floor, Liam turning to you with a cheeky smile.
“See you around, Y/n,” he winked. Why did you find that so attractive, or maybe it’s just because you were slightly drunk.
“Goodnight Liam,” you smirked back, blowing him a kiss as you walked out the elevator, the doors closing behind you.
You couldn’t help but smile like an idiot as you unlocked your flat and stumbled into your room, immediately collapsing on your bed. London. It was definitely going to be an adventure.
—
You were woken up the next day by the sun peaking through your window. You yawned and let out a big stretch, still giddy from last night’s date. It’s not like you thought you had just met your soulmate or something, you both kept the evening light, mainly joking and flirting as you downed drinks. But god you couldn’t remember the last time you had that much fun or ended a night feeling so confident and carefree. You were embracing every ounce of the euphoria you were getting from your new life.
You slipped out of bed and made your way to the kitchen, still rubbing the morning crust out of your eyes. Just as you got a pot of coffee going, you heard the distinct sound of a key turning, startling you as you realized it was coming from outside of your flat’s door. You cursed at the fact that you were about to meet a new flatmate while in your flannel pajamas and messy bun hanging halfway off your head, but mainly you were excited to finally have some company.
“Dude it’s no Figure 8 living but fuck it I’ll live anywhere to not have my parents breathing down my neck these next few months,” you heard a voice say, now in the hallway of your flat.
You immediately freeze. That was a male voice, definitely a male. Of course it makes sense now that you think of it, everyone in the flat gets their own room so what does it matter if the flat is co-ed. The thought just hadn’t crossed your mind, you automatically assumed you’d be living with all girls.
“Yeah man, anywhere that’s 1,000 miles away from Ward sounds like the perfect place to me,” another male voice laughed in return. Ward? Ward Cameron? That couldn’t possibly be who the voice was referring to because that would mean you were living with- and before you could even finish your thought you were standing jaw slightly parted staring at Rafe Cameron and Topper Thornton  in front of you. Two of the most popular guys at school.
You weren’t really friends but your families knew each other so you inevitably saw one another at kook events every now and then. You couldn’t help but feel intimidated by them. You always told yourself you didn’t care about boys like Rafe and Topper or about fitting in with their crowd, yet you always became nervous in their presence.  They were cool. They partied a lot, were athletes, and had girls tripping over them, which you couldn’t fault considering anyone with eyes could tell they were attractive, but you’d never have the confidence to be so bold with guys like that. Unless you were drunk of course. And unless you were the new confident and carefree version of yourself that you had been on your date last night with Liam.
“Yo Y/n, no fucking way, I didn’t know we’d get to live with girl,” Topper smiled at you with a teasing grin.
You were suddenly acutely aware of how disheveled you look and how you weren’t wearing a bra under your thin pajama top.
“Uh hey w-what are you guys doing here,” you managed to choke out. That confident girl from last night had disappeared as quickly as she had arrived, leaving you now feeling winded in front of the two boys from your hometown. Why were you getting so flustered?
“Just on a little exchange program from Kildare, maybe you’ve heard of it,” teased Rafe sarcastically, a smile tugging at his lips, holding back a laugh at how caught off guard you looked.
“Yeah no yeah of course,” you stuttered, “I guess I just wasn’t expecting you two to want to sign up for it.”
That’s when you realized the obvious. Every year there was always a number of spots reserved on the exchange for athletes, and Rafe and Topper were two of Kildare’s star soccer players.
“What and get to miss an opportunity to play at Westheath and go to Premier League games all semester? No shot,” laughed Topper.
“Maybe you should’ve gone to orientation after all, roomie,” joked Rafe as he picked up his bag following Topper down the hall to their rooms. Rafe Cameron noticed I didn’t go to orientation?
You let your face fall in your hands with a groan only audible to you. You quickly picked up your head and shook yourself off, pouring yourself a cup of coffee as you tried to ground yourself from your frazzled state. Looks like escaping OBX was going to be harder than you thought.

Untouchable Ch 9- The Boogeyman (S2E6)
Warnings: murder of young children, swearing, generally just some people dealing with some painful stuff badly
Ch 8 | Ch 10
~ ~ ~
Tumblr media
Lydia had been right about one thing: after Strauss cleared her to take Hotch’s job offer, she didn’t end up going on a case for months. She went through what was, essentially, the FBI Academy, making sure she was prepared for any sort of field work that fell upon her while she was on a case.
Upon graduation, she made Hotch promise that she’d never have to go through anything like that again. It was brutal. But on the bright side, by her 23rd birthday, if she so chose, she could become an agent. That was quite the accomplishment for her.
The summer was finishing up and Lydia was preparing for her 3rd semester of her graduate program, with Spencer’s help, of course. He’d been an angel for the past three months. And somehow, no one seemed to have caught on to their secret relationship.
It was so nice. What she felt with Spencer was unlike anything she’d been a part of before. He was sweet and made her laugh and kept her engaged. And he understood her. He allowed her to speak openly about her mother and father, though she hardly did. When she explained to him that her and her sister ended up in a foster care system, he didn’t pressure her to talk about why her father had lost custody. Instead, he asked her about Beck, a topic she was far more comfortable with.
He was her support system. And her best friend.
Which was why he was the first to greet her upon her entrance to the BAU.
“Hey, do we have a case?” he asked bluntly, meeting her halfway to her desk and following her there.
“I wouldn’t be here if we didn’t,” she admitted, setting her go bag down, finally having one to keep in the office. “Gideon?”
“Round table room,” he replied, shortly. Then he leaned in, almost secretively. “Welcome back.”
She opened her mouth to tease him, but was cut off by Morgan.
“Lydia! Bring it in, kiddo!” He entered the bullpen, arms extended for a hug, which she graciously accepted.
“Derek! I’ve missed you guys. How have things been without me?”
“Eh…” he squeeked. “Tense?”
She knew what he was referring to. Apparently, on their last case, Elle had shot an unsub outside of his house with no witnesses around. She was claiming it was self defense, but the circumstances were fishy and Hotch didn’t believe her. Or at least, Spencer thought Hotch didn’t believe her.
“Morgan, Reid, Ambers,” JJ called, sternly. “Let’s go.”
The three of them sheepishly made their way to the conference room, where JJ and Gideon were waiting for them.
“Nicholas Faye, of Ozona, Texas, was beaten to death roughly 13 hours ago” JJ began, a picture of a young kid with a bloody head wound appearing on screen. “Blunt force trauma to the head. He’s the second young boy in Ozona to die the same death in the last 2 months. Local hunters found his body in the woods. The first victim’s name, Robbie Davis.”
Lydia picked up one of the case files and sat down with the team, looking over the crime scene photos. She didn’t want to, but couldn’t help herself from glancing at Nicholas’s file. He was eight. Who took out their psychotic desires on such small children?
“Are these boys connected somehow?” Morgan asked.
“Ozona’s population’s roughly 2,500,” JJ explained. “Everyone has some kind of connection.”
“Well, if they weren’t linked before, they most certainly are now,” he murmured.
~ ~ ~
Lydia didn’t fail to notice the lack of Hotch and Elle as they boarded the jet. No wonder Gideon asked her to come along, they were severely understaffed.
Lydia sat down beside JJ on the flight, the two of them looking over the medical report together.
“Did you guys hear Elle was cleared?” Spencer asked, sitting across from them, with Morgan. He had a fresh cup of coffee in his hands.
JJ nodded, looking to Derek, who simply said, “Self-defense.”
“So it was a good shoot,” Spencer continued.
“She hit what she was aimin’ for,” JJ mumbled, harshly.
“That’s not what I meant,” Spencer tried to defend himself, but the can of worms had been opened.
“I know.”
“If they cleared her, how come she’s not here with us?” Morgan demanded. “Or Hotch?”
Gideon was quick to put an end to the speculating. “Focus on the case.”
They had just started to discuss the chances of these kids being surrogates for a past bully when JJ got a call from the sheriff, letting them know a new victim had just been discovered. An 11-year-old girl.
“Why would the victimology just… suddenly change?” Reid asked.
“Maybe the girl wasn’t the target?” Morgan suggested. “Maybe she just got in the way.”
“Or the sex of his victim isn’t significant,” Gideon reasoned. “The pace he’s killing certainly indicates a velocity of change.”
“We can’t surveil every kid in Ozona,” JJ sighed. “How are we supposed to keep them all safe?”
“Enforce a curfew?” Reid offered.
Morgan didn’t seem to disagree with him, but still shook his head as if frustrated. “Children shouldn’t have to worry about something like that.”
“Tell me about it,” JJ mumbled. “The woods were the only thing I was afraid of when I was a kid.”
“Seriously?” he asked, startled. “I thought you grew up in a small town?”
She chuckled. “Yeah. Surrounded by woods.”
“Bummer for you.”
“Yeah.”
“The only I was afraid of was the dark,” he explained.
Reid raised an eyebrow. “Some of us still are.”
The whole group glanced up questioningly and Lydia was sure Morgan was going to tease him about it, but Gideon was already back on topic.
“When we land, Lydia and Reid, go to the new crime scene. The little girl,” he ordered. “Morgan and I will look at the scene where Nicholas Faye was found.”
They nodded, settling into silence.
~ ~ ~
“This is just a quarter mile from where the two boys were killed,” a deputy told them as Lydia and Reid walked onto the scene. “Bludgeoned to death the same way.”
The medic who was wheeling off her body shook his head. “Not entirely true. I found some markings on her scalp that indicated that that psycho beat her postmortem.”
Lydia raised an eyebrow at Reid, before walking around the scene to look for anything the deputies might have missed. “So much for Morgan’s theory on her getting in the way.”
“Suggests the unsub’s getting more brazen,” he agreed.
“He’s getting brazen all right,” the medic grumbled. “I’ve bagged three children in the last month.”
Lydia glanced at a sign nailed into a nearby tree, which designated the surrounding area as hunting grounds. “Deputy, do you get a lot of hunters around here?”
He shrugged. “There are only a few avid hunters in town. The forest goes on for miles and miles, so despite our patrols it’s possible to miss a few.”
Reid stepped around the stretcher and joined her. “What are you thinking?”
“Just trying to get a feel for who would know these woods. If the unsub kept beating her after death, he had to know he was in a spot no one would pass through accidentally.”
“It doesn’t really fit the MO of a hunter to beat someone to death,” he explained.
“Maybe not, but who else is out here regularly? The patrols?”
He contemplated this for a minute. “I’ll bring it up later. Did you look for evidence?”
“Well, I can’t exactly dust the dirt for fingerprints,” she argued. “And I’m sure he took the weapon with him. He’d want to stash it in a separate sight for his next victim. Since I can’t search the whole woods, I’m pretty much useless.”
“You’re not useless,” he assured her. “Looking into the patrols was a good suggestion. Gideon wouldn’t have brought you along if he didn’t think you could help.”
She gave him a halfhearted smile, before continuing around the closed off area and kicking up leaves. She wanted to believe him, but this was a crime scene for a profiler. And she wasn’t a profiler.
~ ~ ~
Lydia was left to twiddling her thumbs in the station as they gave a profile to the deputies. They’d spent the day telling children and parents alike about how to best take care of themselves and make sure no one else got grabbed. But there really wasn’t anything for her to analyze. She was, frankly, quite bored.
“Excuse me.”
Lydia looked up to find a very pregnant woman walking in, a young boy holding her hand.
“Chief,” the deputy they’d met before said. “You’re gonna want to hear this.”
The entire room went quiet as she spoke. “My son, Matthew, never came home today.”
“When was he last seen?” Gideon started and the rest of the team made their way to the evidence board.
The only things on the board were a map of the town and the pictures of the killed kids, which Lydia was sure wasn’t helping ease the mother.
“His teacher saw him in the parking lot after school.”
“Search team,” the sheriff demanded and everyone began to disperse, talking amongst themselves.
“Ok, Reid,” Morgan said, stepping up to the map. “The school is on Willow Rd.”
Reid began to explain the secluded areas nearby and Morgan reasoned out where the deputies should start their search. Across the room, JJ was helping the mother into a chair and Gideon was joining them to ask more questions.
And Lydia was still… doing nothing. No help at all.
“Honey, is that true?” the mother asked, catching the attention of most of the room. She spoke to her youngest son. “Are you hidin’ something?”
“You want to protect him, right?” Gideon prompted The boy glanced nervously at all the adults now fixed on him. “It’s what a brother’s for.”
“Matty said he was just going to ring the doorbell,” he defended. “At the haunted house… on the hill.”
Lydia’s ears pricked up. Haunted house? That was something to keep her busy.
“The Finnegan’s place,” a man named James Charles answered. He was the guidance counselor at the local school, so he knew the kids well and had been involved in the case since day one.
“Who’s Finnegan?” Gideon demanded.
“This old guy who lives in that house,” the kid responded.
The sheriff was the next to explain. “Kind of a local legend. Ghost story.”
“About?” Reid asked.
“Supposedly he watches the kids from his window. Hunts ‘em. Skins ‘em. Eats ‘em.” He shrugged. “Standard.”
“Folks have been tellin’ that story since I was a kid,” Charles explained.
Morgan was clearly pissed. “Why haven’t we heard about this? Fables are often sparked by an ounce of truth. We should exhaust every possibility.”
“Nevermind that, Morgan,” Gideon told him. “Grab your things. Lydia, too. We’re going on a raid.”
~ ~ ~
After Morgan and the sheriff swept the house and found it to be empty, Lydia went in to look for potential evidence. The power had been cut, which would indicate it had been empty for a few weeks, at least, but inside was a copy of the day’s paper.
Gideon and Spencer searched the shed out back and found the boy, Matthew. Poor kid had run off when he thought he heard Finnegan and hid in the shed for most of the day. While the rest of the team was figuring out how to get him home, Lydia and Spencer began their search of the house.
She scanned the shelves in his study while Reid went through his desk. They were looking for any indication that he killed kids in his free time, but it looked pretty normal.
“Hm… I’m gonna search the next room. Will you be alright here?” she asked him, turning away from the books and trinkets.
He nodded, still rumbling through drawers. “I’ll call Garcia to see if she found anything on Finnegan.”
Lydia smiled, stepping out the door. “Holler if you hear anything interesting.”
He agreed, watching her walk off, fondly, before a sense of dread overcame him with the realization he was now all alone in the dark. He dialed Garcia as fast as he could, trying to focus on the files in front of him and forget about the ominous room behind him.
Meanwhile, Lydia walked into an open living space with some scary decorations. A full wall was lined with hunting knives and a cabinet of shotguns. Given the creepy stuffed animal heads around the rest of the house, Lydia wasn’t surprised to find that he was a hunter, but even so, the amount of weapons he owned seemed extensive.
A hunter, especially one who lived basically in the woods himself, would know the trails well. But she remembered what Reid had said about how strange it would be for a hunter to kill someone with blunt force trauma. And clearly Finnegan was proud of his kills. Beating up kids and leaving them in the woods didn’t line up with the guy who organized his knives by size and preserved his kills on frames in his house.
But just in time to throw a wrench in her assumption, she came across a few items hastily stuffed underneath the coffee table in the adjacent room. She knelt down and picked up a blue lunchbox and a pink and white backpack.
“Ah!” Reid’s squeal echoed through the house, followed by laughter from Morgan.
Lydia picked up her findings and started to make her way back towards them.
“You really are afraid of the dark,” Morgan teased.
“I’m working on that.”
“You should work a little harder.”
She stepped into the main hallway and almost walked directly into her boyfriend. “Woah. Hey. You alright?” She couldn’t stop herself from smiling at his flustered demeanor.
“What are you holding?” he deflected, noticing her awkward grip on her flashlight with her full hands.
“My deputy got the boy home safe,” the sheriff announced, entering the house with Gideon. “Turns out the poor kid got spooked by a tree branch.”
Morgan sighed. “This whole town’s on edge.”
“And rightfully so,” Lydia argued, holding up the lunchbox for them to see. “Robbie Davis,” she said, pointing to the name in sharpie on the bottom, then doing the same to the backpack. “Sarah Peterson.”
“I guess Finnegan brought the kids back here first before baiting ‘em into the woods,” Morgan reasoned. “But why wouldn’t he get rid of the evidence?”
Gideon looked somewhat baffled.
“He considers them trophies,” Reid offered.
“When this is all said and done I’d like to hang his head on my wall,” Morgan finished, before walking further into the house.
~ ~ ~
The house was huge. It was going to take hours to search, but it was better than the jackshit she’d been doing earlier. The team had spread out pretty evenly across the house, looking for any indication of where Finnegan had run off to.
“Lydia! Morgan!” Gideon called up the stairs.
The two of them met on the stairwell and found Gideon, Reid, and the sheriff all headed out the door.
“One of the search teams just found Finnegan’s body in the woods,” Gideon continued to explain.
“No shit…” Lydia whispered.
“I need you to keep searching the house. And what did I say about looking fascinated?” he warned her, being the last to walk out the door. “It’ll creep the locals out.”
She nodded, though he was already gone, and looked to Morgan for instruction.
“Do you wanna search down here and I’ll go back upstairs?” he asked, not comfortable with ordering Lydia around despite being the superior agent (in fact, the only agent) in the house.
“Sure,” she responded and lifted up her flashlight to navigate the ground floor once more.
She wasn’t sure what Reid and Gideon had gone through before they left, so she headed towards the back end of the house and started there. The bathroom was fairly standard and she moved through it quickly, then wound up in the kitchen.
Across an island in the middle of the room were many empty food containers. They’d been delivered and eaten within the past few days. Lydia continued, thinking nothing of it and searched through some drawers, when her phone went off.
“Lydia? Finnegan’s been dead for two weeks, at least,” Gideon informed her. “Looks like his heart gave out when he was setting an animal trap.”
“Interesting,” she mumbled, turning back on the plastic containers. “It looks like I’ve got some prints to lift, then.”
“His body had been covered up. Someone’s trying to take advantage of the fact that no one knows he’s dead.”
“I noticed. We’ve got food containers here that were delivered today and they’ve been eaten. Someone hasn’t just been bringing in his papers, Gideon. They’ve been basically living here.”
“And leaving trophies from their kills there. We’re on our way back. Dust those containers and look for any other evidence of our unsub. He clearly didn’t think we’d find Finnegan. He didn’t think to hide anything he left in the house.”
“You got it.”
She hung up and went to grab some print dust from her bag. But she held off on using it, searching for anything else she could dust and dropping it on the counter as well.
“What have you got?” Gideon asked as he stormed into the house and all the way back to the kitchen.
“Provisions. The church delivers them to elders in town,” she explained, not looking up from her search through the cabinets. “Unsub has been eating all the ones dropped off in the past few days.”
“Did he eat everything?” Morgan inquired, walking in behind them.
She shook her head and lifted the trash can in the corner of the room, opening it up for the boys to see inside. “He doesn’t like creamed spinach it seems.” Inside there were cups of spinach, all duct taped shut. She dropped the can roughly and knelt down to grab the cups of uneaten food and set them up with the other things she’d collected.
“Grab those prints quickly,” Gideon instructed, his phone going off in his pocket. “Have Garcia run them for a match.” Looking at his screen, he mumbled, “Hotch,” before stepping out of the room.
Reid watched him go, then began talking to Morgan. “It’s about Elle, isn’t it?”
Lydia raised an eyebrow, but went back to work, finding pristine prints almost immediately.
“I don’t know,” the agent replied.
“You know, I- I talked to her in Ohio,” Spencer admitted.
“Reid, we all talked to her.”
“No, I- I- I talked to her before. I went to her room one night, and she was drinking.”
“She almost died. I’d be drinking, too.” Morgan sounded exhausted, leaving the conversation at that.
Lydia waited until she was certain he was gone to look up at Reid. “Don’t worry about Elle, Spencer. Hotch is working on that. When we’ve finished this case, then you can talk to her, call her, whatever you need to do to make sure she’s okay.”
He nodded, his teeth pulling at his lips in concentration. “Thanks, Lydia.”
She shot him a small smile, the dark finally lifting with the morning light. “If you just want to talk, you know I’ll listen.”
He opened his mouth to respond, but Gideon was already on his way back in, not looking too happy.
Text, she mouthed to Spencer, not wanting him to give up so easily on talking to her.
Later, he mouthed back.
~ ~ ~
They got back to the station late that morning and Gideon instructed the three of them to settle down until Garcia got back to them with the prints Lydia had sent her.
That’s how she ended up sitting around with JJ, Reid, and Morgan, clutching her morning coffee like it was her life and vaguely listening to them talk about the case. She didn’t even realize the topic had changed until she was in the middle of it.
“Why the woods, JJ?” Morgan started to her left. Lydia glanced up, curious where the conversation had ended up.
“Hm?”
“Your fear. You said it was of the woods.”
She glanced down, her brow creased in concentration. “Uh, I used to be a camp counselor when I was a teenager in the woods up in Vermont. I had the night shift-- tuck the girls in, turn off the lights, you know, the typical drill. Everything seemed fine, all the kids were asleep. You know… nothing out of the ordinary… Until I noticed that there was some blood on the hallway floor…”
Both the boys’ eyebrows shot up, glancing at each other curiously. Lydia’s face was one more of confusion. The way she set up the story sounded more like a ghost story than a personal tragedy. And it would turn out she was right, because while the boys were distracted, JJ sent Lydia a wink. Oh… she was totally playing them.
“...so I followed the blood trail out to the camp director’s cabin, walked up to his bed, and he was just lying there underneath his covers… Dead. Someone stabbed him. I ran out of there so fast. Out the door, down the hall. I just remember it being really dark. Once I got to the door, there was another counselor there. I guess she heard me scream.
“They caught the caretaker on his way to town. Guess he had still had the knife on him. Anyway, I guess that’s probably when I decided I didn’t like the woods.”
She took a long sip from her coffee and Lydia could tell almost immediately that she was trying to hide her smile at the dumbstruck faces the boys were making.
“You’re serious?” Morgan asked, glancing at Lydia who was holding a hand over her mouth to also mask her smile, though it wasn’t very convincing.
JJ gave Morgan a long look, before finally saying, “No.”
Lydia snickered at their change in posture. “Come on guys, that was total bullshit.”
“You fell for that?” JJ teased. “Come on. I don’t know why I’m afraid of the woods. I just… I am. Why is he still afraid of the dark?” she demanded, turning on Spencer.
“Yeah, Reid,” Morgan joined. “Why are you still afraid of the dark?”
“Because of the inherent absence of light,” he replied.
“Oh,” JJ said, sarcastically.
“JJ, that was pretty good,” Morgan complimented. “I can’t believe you were in on it, Lydia. Just know that paybacks are a bitch.”
“I’m shaking,” JJ mocked.
Suddenly, Morgan flipped onto Lydia. “So, out with it. What was your childhood fear?”
Lydia stammered for a moment. “Oh! I hadn’t even thought about it. I guess… getting kicked out of school was one of the big ones for me.”
“You getting kicked out?” he laughed. “Come on, kiddo. You can do better.”
“I got into a couple of fights,” she defended and he shook his head.
“No way. You can’t play me like JJ did.”
“I’m not!” She was laughing now, too. “I was an angry child until I went away to college! But I knew how difficult it would be for my family if I got expelled so every time I got sent to the principal I was terrified of getting kicked out.”
“I don’t believe you!” he argued, leaning forward to grab his ringing phone. “You’re a total liar!”
Lydia rolled her eyes dramatically at the other two. She knew Spencer believed her, but she wasn’t sure with JJ. She couldn’t blame Morgan for dismissing it. She had changed a lot since then. Even when they first met, when she was still grieving Jenna, she hadn’t been as physical or offstandish as she’d been in high school, so he really hadn’t seen her in action.
“Yeah… Hey girl, you got something good for me?... Two?... Okay, but which one of the victims? Why don’t you coordinate with the Ozona coroner’s office for a match?...” Morgan’s eyebrows knit together as he listened to Garcia. “Yeah, he’s a local guidance counselor helping us on this case… I know exactly how to find him, Garcia. Thanks.”
“Don’t tell me-,” Lydia began, but Morgan was already hopping up and ready to go.
“James Charles’s fingerprints were on those food containers.”
~ ~ ~
They drove out, leaving Lydia to search his house while they brought him into custody. She did a glancing sweep of all the rooms but nothing stood out to her. The profile claimed the guy was meticulous. And the Charles household did not reflect that.
She found the cleanest room was his son’s bedroom. Jeffrey Charles. His mom had left him and his dad 6 months ago. And now all his classmates were dying horribly. That must be scary.
Oh no… and JJ had to pull him out of school now that his dad was in custody. Even scarier.
She wandered a moment more, building herself up to inevitably tear this house apart. And then, Spencer called her.
“What’s up?”
“Is Jeffrey there? At the house?”
“What?” she exclaimed. “No. I would have called you if I was babysitting a child.”
“He’s not at school either.”
“You guys thinking Charles killed his own kid?”
“It’s suspect. JJ and I are going to meet up with you.”
“Got it.”
And after a few minutes they did. JJ looked around upstairs and Lydia started a more thorough search around the kitchen. Turns out, there was a lot to learn from kitchens on this case. She opened the fridge and was very startled to find many of the products inside sealed with duct tape. Similar to the duct tape on all the creamed spinach at the Finnegan place.
“Weird,” Spencer mumbled behind her.
“What is it?” she asked, not even turning around. “I bet mine’s weirder.”
“Epi pen,” he muttered, walking into the kitchen and looking over her shoulder. He stared at the fridge for a moment, eyebrows scrunching together. “I… guess I’ll call Gideon.”
Lydia shut the refrigerator door, listening to him explain to Gideon what they’d found.
“Do you think the kid could have done this?” she asked, quietly. It was a protective measure. No adult would cover things they were allergic to. The duct tape was to stop a kid from doing something harmful. And if Jeffrey was the one with the allergy, he’s the one who’s been hiding in the Finnegan house.
“Gideon will figure it out,” Spencer assured her, putting his phone back in his pocket. “Let’s just keep searching.”
~ ~ ~
Little Jeffrey Charles was bitter that his dad could help all these kids at school with their problems and couldn’t sit down and talk to him about his mom. So, once the baseball season was up and he was still craving the physical release, he walked into the woods with his friend Robbie Davis and beat him to death.
Maybe Robbie was teasing him or making him angry. Maybe he hadn’t meant to hit him the first time. Maybe there was more to it that they didn’t understand…
But Lydia had to go home knowing that she’d never get more answers for that. Little Jeffrey Charles was going to be sent away for a long time. That was it.
The jet was silent, JJ sleeping across the couch, Gideon looking over one file or another, and Morgan listening to something in earbuds. Lydia and Spencer were sitting beside one another, looking off distantly, lost in their own heads. That was until Lydia’s phone buzzed in her pocket and she saw Spencer glancing at her in her peripheral vision.
Spencer: You said I could text?
It took her a moment to remember what he was talking about. When Gideon had interrupted them earlier, she told him to text her if he wanted to talk about Elle. She smiled slightly and nodded at him, knowing no one would notice the strange interaction between the two.
Spencer: I should have said something.
Spencer: I talked to Elle that night, and I knew she wasn’t right, but I didn’t tell anyone.
He thought he hadn’t been enough of a friend. He was the only person to notice that Elle was unhappy and to talk to her about it and he’s putting her reaction on himself. Because he didn’t tell anyone. Lydia was quick to respond before he could continue to beat himself up about it.
Don’t do that to yourself. You were helping a friend. Elle’s decisions, whether justified or not, are on her.
Spencer: Maybe Hotch could have talked to her.
Maybe she could have talked to Hotch, she fired back. Maybe I’m not the best person to tell you this, but when someone’s standing on a ledge, your ability to talk them down depends on them, not you. Sometimes people make themselves so closed off, that not even holding them up yourself can save them.
Spencer: Elle wasn’t unreachable.
She still isn’t. But perhaps one day she will be. I’m not saying don’t keep reaching. I’m telling you that if she gets to that point, she made the step. You didn’t push her.
Lydia hadn’t expected a response to that. Especially not a real one. Spencer was so careful about their relationship. Months later, and he was still scared of the team being a part of it.
She could respect that, of course. Although this had been their first case together as a couple, she was relieved to find it completely professional. No weird teasing from the team. No worried eyes from Hotch and Gideon. They were perfectly normal.
But a couple beats after sending that message, Spencer’s eyes scanned the room to make sure no one was looking, then reached out and squeezed her hand appreciatively.
And she really wished they could stay like that for the rest of the flight.

Corona Virus - What’s going on + Vocab List
Tumblr media
Hello! This is the Jojal Jojal team! We hope you guys are staying healthy during this crazy corona virus situation. We decided to make a post talking about what’s happening in Korea due to the Corona Virus! All the admins wrote a short article on what’s happening in Korea! We hope wherever you are you stay healthy and safe.
Corona Virus-19 Part 1  (Admin Yu )
개학 연기 Delay of school
Due to the spreading of covid-19, the Ministry of Education of Korea has delayed the start of school(개학), which was originally anticipated on March 2nd, to March 23rd. It is said that there have never been such a long and nationwide closure of school throughout Korean history. 학원(academies) have also been advised to stop the lessons by the government. Now, students are staying inside home. My friends and I have barely left the house since the academies closed.
To make up for the unexpected delay of school, some schools have started online lessons through platform provided by EBS, EBS Online Class. The summer and winter vacation are expected to be reduced in order to fill the mandatory school days.
Tumblr media
재택 근무 Work at home
As the anxiety of people arose, some companies have chosen work at home. IT companies and companies that provide online services are pioneering the new working system. Though there are pros and cons, people have started to reevaluate the work at home system.
자가 격리 Self-quarantine
If a person have contacted with confirmed covid-19 patient or are experiencing similar symptoms of covid-19 such as fever or respiratory symptoms, the person is demanded to go under self-quarantine for 14 days. The government have developed an app for people under self-quarantine which alerts the officer in charge as soon as the person leaves the quarantine area or blocks the GPS. Through the app, people can also self-diagnose symptoms twice a day. The government distributed the app to more than 32,000 people under self-quarantine, and asked for their voluntary cooperation.

응원의 말
I’ve recently watched a documentary of Daegu hospitals. I was astonished to see so many ambulances gathered from all around the country, so many volunteers volunteered for the patients, so many doctors and nurses skipping their sleep to treat the patients. It was the place of genuine devotion. Seeing them, I have become more than sure that we will get through it. 진심으로 응원합니다.
Corona Virus-19 Part 2  (Admin Do)
The Medical system 의료 시스템 - If someone believes they are infected with the virus, they consult the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, then visit one of the selected examination centers for an examination. The examination fee is free if the examination fits the criteria set by the government.
The patient care team consisting of medical teams classifies the severity of the patient into four stages: a slight illness, a moderate illness, a serious illness, and a profound illness. Patients with a moderate illness or higher will be quickly hospitalized at sound pressure isolation wards or hospitals specialized for infectious diseases, while patients with a slight illness will be admitted to local life-care centers, which are state-run facilities or accommodation facilities for treatment.
In addition, even after being admitted to a medical institution, if the symptoms improve they will be discharged from the hospital, and will be sent to a local life care center or take the self recuperation process based on the judgment of the doctor in charge of the treatment and the patient management team.
mask supply 마스크 보급 -The government is currently working on a five-day mask policy to solve the difficulties of purchasing masks due to a lack of stock. Under the measures to stabilize mask imports, two masks per person can be purchased every week at pharmacies on days according to the month of birth. It also provides apps and web services that inform the inventory of masks available based on information compiled by the government.
Donations and volunteer work 기부와 봉사 -Celebrities from all walks of life and businesses are making donations to overcome COVID-19. In addition, donations with the warm hearts of the citizens are continuing.
Also, volunteer work for disinfection tasks for prevention of COVID-19 and aiding emergency medical supplies are helping the situation.

Corona Virus-19 Part 3 (Admin Sun)
Hi! I’m Admin Sun and I’ll explain briefly about the Corona virus situation in Daegu and what the government is doing to try and stop the Coronavirus!
Most of South Korea’s COVID-19 confirmed cases are in Daegu. While the corona virus itself probably came overfrom China to Korea, the massive spike of numbers of infected people are primarily linked to a religious group, the Shincheonji, which has a branch in Daegu. This is why most of the confirmed cases are in Daegu. A giant corona virus outbreak happened while the group was holding a service, and that outbreak caused lots of other confirmed cases. The Shincheonji’s way they hold their service puts them in close contact with other people, which probably caused such a giant outbreak. The group is centered around its chairman, Lee Man-hee. Government officials are testing people associated to the group to check for any more infections.
Due to the giant outbreak in Daegu, Korea is on extra alert to make sure there are no more giant corona virus outbreaks like that. I’ll briefly explain about some measures being used to contain the virus.
Drive through coronavirus testing was inspired by the drive-through counters like McDonalds and Starbucks have. Drivers pull in to a parking lot where they can be tested for the Corona virus. They drive into stations where nurses in protective suits register drivers, check their temperatures, and use swabs to take samples from the drivers. Then they test the samples for any traces of the Corona Virus. It’s safer and faster to test for the virus in these drive-through corona virus testings than in hospitals or clinics. Korea also has a lot of corona virus testing kits available, and together with the drive through testing centers it is helping contain the situation. According to the director of the Korean Society for Laboratory Medicine, South Korea has managed to test more than 140,000 people for the novel coronavirus, using kits with sensitivity rates of over 95%.
Tumblr media
Government officials are also spraying disinfectant in the streets, and they are also working hard to help disinfect places like shops and restaurants.
Also, we get warning messages from the government that notify us about the latest information regarding the corona virus. They remind us to wash our hands and not attend any major events that might spread the virus. Also, they notify us about the situation of the corona virus, like confirmed cases near our location.
We sincerely hope this giant outbreak of this disease can be quickly contained and we can go back to our normal life. Stay safe, and don’t forget to wash your hands!

My Son, My Miracle (Ch.1)
Starting information here! Please read it, it will give background information on the characters and explain some of the last names!
A tall man with light brown hair stuck a key inside the small keyhole playing with it for a second before opening the door taking a step in the tranquil place. The man took off his coat and hung it on a clip attached to the wall near the doorway after shutting the door. With a click, it locked and he made his way to a room. The room was quite simple, a desk, a bed, a side table, a few shelves, a dresser, one door leading to a bath and closet, and a bookshelf of knick-knacks and books. The man set a large mailbag on a shelf above the dresser adding his dress shoes between the doorway and dresser with two more pairs of shoes. A relieved sigh left his lips as he rid of the normal button-up shirt and other work clothes.
Now in something more comfortable the same brunette walked to the kitchen with a wistful smile. A pink note with cursive black writing sat abandoned on his counter. With a heavy sigh, he read over the note.
‘Logan, as you can guess it's me R! We have a baking thing Sunday that came up. I need you there, no excuses! See you in two days, sis! Here’s the address- XXXXXXX rd XXXX
-R’
The man known as Logan let a chuckle at his friend, grabbing all things needed to make a small pizza deciding on the Italian dish for dinner.
-Sunday-
Logan arrived at the address staring at the large building labeled ‘Morris Orphanage and Academy’ and dropped his head. He liked baking with his friend, but he didn’t want to deal with a mass amount of screaming, crying, and unsanitary children. With a final heave, he set off to find his short, coffee addicted friend. Past the gate and small courtyard, Logan found his traitorous friend. Starbucks in hand, cuffed ripped jeans, a short-sleeve shirt with bold letters of ‘More Espresso, Less Depresso’, and a leather jacket hanging on by the inside of his elbows. The man’s clothes drastically compared to Logan’s own more formal style. He, himself wore work boots with steel toes, jeans, a tucked-in white button-up, and a messenger bag, this time a black compared to his previous leather one. “Remy, I’m here. Why are we cooking at an orphanage?” Remy leaned on one leg leaning towards Logan, coffee in hand, “Hun, we get to make sweets with the good kids to teach them. No, you can’t leave. You are helping me,” with a clap in between each word on the last sentence.
Even with the half-foot difference, children of all ages could see Remy dragging Logan with an irritated look. Making their way to the kitchen a few kids stood around the room, all but two with an adult or at least an older teen. “Hi! I’m Chloe, I should be cooking with Remy Vasil?” A ten-year-old stood in front of us dragging the other behind her. Remy quickly dragged her off to their own station to create pastries. “I’m Logan Berry, are you by any chance my partner?” I watched the small kid in front of me fiddle with the hems of his sleeves. With a stutter, a nervous voice came from under the hood, “Ah- Y-yes. I’m Virgil S-storm. It’s nice to m-met you, sir.” I nodded and scanned the room for the open area to cook before walking to the section with the tiny presumed boy behind me. “We can make scones, fifty minutes to make on average, and we can make an infinitesimal amount of flavors,” he gives a confused glance and in a slight whispering voice, Virgil speaks again, “Sir. Um, in-infinitesimal means r-really sm-small, not b-big.” My eyes widened and I pulled out my phone to search the word, and sure enough, it does! I give a small smile and a ‘let's start’.
By the end of the evening, I had become attached to Virgil. We made a multitude of scones of an ample of flavors. I think… I wouldn’t mind having some company around the house. Eventually, we had to part ways, leaving me to walk partially with Remy in a pleasing silence. Arriving home I read up about parenting, children, their needs, room decorations, anxiety, and other symptoms he showed for possible depression, trust issues, etc. While balancing work and my own well being the quest bedroom had been completely transformed. Glowing stars filled the ceiling, lilac purple fairy lights lined the walls, the queen size bed covered in fluffy blankets, the walls were painted a dark purplish-blue, a black wooden desk was put under the window with black curtains, a dresser sat in the corner, a small bookshelf neighboring it, and a closet with shirts and hoodies that would be big on the small boy I met, the drawers full of jeans, and PJs. The room had everything Virgil likes, from the clothes, stars, and aesthetics. I hope he’ll like it.
With paperwork in hand, I approached the front desk of the orphanage I was at just a week ago. “Hello, I have all the necessary paperwork to take home Virgil Storm. I talked to the person in charge of a video conference, I believe you should have an email saying I could take him home now?” With a bored look, the woman gave me a glance before speaking over a walkie-talkie and motioning to a nearby bench. The few minutes I waited felt like hours, I went over everything in my head. Take him home, let him adjust, talk it out over sweets, schedule therapy with Emile if possible, use all my vacation time to hang out with him for a while, and set him up for school. Thousands of thoughts ran through my head before a person was calling out my name, “Logan, sir. Mr. Berry.” Virgil. Virgil was pulling on my sleeve with a black trash bag behind him. “Oh! Ah. Sorry, I was lost in thought. Hello again Virgil,” I flash a smile standing up as he plays with the hems of his hoodie. The woman that brought him gave me a strange look, “Good luck with him.” I ignored her and started to walk out of the building trying to get a conversation out of my new…
Son.
