Willie Howard Mays Jr. who was born on May 6, 1931. Nicknamed "The Say Hey Kid” Mays spent almost all of his 22-season Major League Baseball (MLB) career playing for the New York/San Francisco Giants (1951–1952, 1954–1972) before finishing his career with the New York Mets (1972–1973).
Willie Mays joined the Birmingham Black Barons of the Negro American League in 1948, playing with them until the Giants signed him once he graduated from high school in 1950. He won the Rookie of the Year Award in his MLB debut year of 1951, spent two years in the United States Army during the Korean War, and won the National League (NL) Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award in 1954 after leading the league in batting with a .345 batting average.
Mays led the NL with 51 home runs (HR) in 1955. In 1956, he stole 40 bases, leading the NL for the first of four straight years. He won his first of 12 Gold Glove Awards in 1957, a record for outfielders. The Giants moved to San Francisco after the 1957 season, and Mays contended for the batting title until the final day of 1958, hitting a career-high .347. He batted over .300 for the next two seasons, leading the league in hits in 1960. After leading the NL with 129 runs scored in 1961, Mays led the NL in home runs in 1962 as the Giants won the NL pennant and faced the New York Yankees in the World Series, which the Giants lost in seven games.
In 1964, his manager Alvin Dark named him the Giants' captain. He led the NL with 47 home runs that year. He hit 52 the following year, leading the NL and winning his second MVP award. 1966 was the last of 10 seasons in which he had over 100 runs batted in (RBI). In 1969, he hit the 600th home run of his career; he got his 3,000th hit in 1970. Traded to the Mets in 1972, Mays spent the rest of that season and 1973 with them before retiring. He served as a coach for the Mets until 1979 and later rejoined the Giants as a special assistant to the president and general manager.
Mays finished his career batting .302 with 660 home runs, the sixth-most of all time, and 1,903 runs batted in. He holds MLB records for most putouts as an outfielder (7,095) and the most extra-inning home runs (22).

The Best Baseball Players from California
Tumblr media
The state of California has produced some of the most accomplished professional baseball players in the history of Major League Baseball (MLB). Widely regarded as one of, if not the, greatest hitters of all time, Ted Williams was born in San Diego in 1918. He played 19 seasons in the MLB, all with the Boston Red Sox. Williams led the league in runs scored six times.
Williams regularly ranked among the season leaders in runs batted in (RBI) and walks. That said, he is best known for his impressive batting average and on-base percentage (OBP). He led the league in batting average six times and finished his career with a .344 average, sixth-best in league history. He had a career OBP of .481, a league record. He received countless individual accolades during his career, highlighted by 16 All Star team selections.
While Williams excelled as an individual player, the Red Sox failed to win a World Series title during his more than two decades with the franchise, which included multiple missed seasons due to military service. Other California-born players have enjoyed greater postseason success.
Lefty pitcher Randy Johnson was born in Walnut Creek in 1963. He was initially drafted in the fourth round by the Atlanta Braves, but made his professional debut for the Montreal Expos in 1988. Johnson established himself as an ace pitcher, leading the league in win-loss percentage and earned run average (ERA) in 1995, but experienced multiple trades during the first phase of his career.
Johnson signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 1999 and soon became regarded as one of the league’s top pitchers. He led the league in ERA during three of his first four years in Arizona, and recorded more strikeouts than any other pitcher each of those seasons. In 2001, Johnson and Curt Schilling led the Diamondbacks against the New York Yankees in the World Series. Johnson won all three games he pitched and was named co-MVP with Schilling. He finished his career as one of the league’s most decorated pitchers, with multiple Cy Young Awards and strikeout records.
Barry Bonds is another California native who enjoyed considerable individual success but finished his career without a World Series victory. A left-handed outfielder and designated hitter, he was born in Riverside in 1964. Bonds started his career with the Pittsburgh Pirates, but played his final 15 seasons with the San Francisco Giants.
Bonds earned seven MVP awards during his career, along with eight Gold Gloves, 12 Silver Sluggers, and many additional plaudits. He took part in six Home Run Derby competitions, winning in 1996. He concluded his career with an OBP of .444, No. 7 all-time, and is the MLB career home run leader at 762.
Other notable baseball players to come out of the Sunshine State include Duke Snider of Los Angeles, Fresno’s Tom Seaver, and Mark McGwire, a Pomona native. Center fielder Joe DiMaggio was born in Martinez in 1914. He played his entire career for the New York Yankees, winning nine out of the 10 World Series he played in.

What is Forex Reserves & How is India winning the game?
Tumblr media
At the end of every week, you hear news that Indian forex reserves have increased by X billion dollars or have reduced by Y billion dollars. What is forex reserve, and what does it mean when it increases or decreases?
Forex Reserves are assets held by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in different forms. Some forms are foreign currencies, gold, and Special Drawing Rights (SDRs). These reserves by RBI act as a cushion for India against economic shocks and help us maintain stability in the face of currency fluctuations, trade deficits, or sudden capital outflows.
How does it help India?
Here are some ways:
Economic Stability: Forex reserves support the rupee as they help stabilize its value against other currencies. When the rupee depreciates, the RBI sells dollars from its reserves, supporting the rupee and keeping inflation in check. Recently, if you check the news, the same is happening. Indian forex reserve is falling as RBI is selling dollars.
Trade and Investment Confidence: High reserves enhance confidence among foreign investors, as they indicate that India can manage external obligations, attracting more Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and Foreign Portfolio Investment (FPI).
Emergency Fund for Economic Crises: During economic downturns or financial crises, reserves provide a buffer, allowing the Indian government to meet international obligations or import essential goods without borrowing.
Managing Inflation and Imports: Reserves allow the country to finance imports in challenging times, preventing supply shortages that could drive inflation.
For the stock market, High forex reserves make India more attractive to foreign investors, as they signal a stable economy and reduce the risk of currency volatility. In September, India reached a milestone of $700 billion in forex reserves. However, the reserves are falling. Also, FIIs are exiting the market, and the stock market is falling. Are you confused about which stocks to pick in such a volatile market? Take help from a SEBI Registered Investment Advisor or use Jarvis AI to make the most of the stock market in India.

Roberto Clemente: A Hero on and off the Field
In the annals of baseball history, few names resonate as deeply as Roberto Clemente. The Puerto Rican outfielder, known for his dazzling skills on the field and his humanitarian efforts off it, left a legacy that transcends the game of baseball. Clemente wasn’t just one of the greatest players of all time; he was a trailblazer for Latin American athletes, a champion of social justice, and a hero who lived and died for the betterment of others.
Clemente’s story is one of triumph over adversity, of breaking barriers, and of leaving an indelible mark on both the sport he loved and the world he cared for so deeply.
Early Life: Humble Beginnings in Puerto Rico
Born on August 18, 1934, in Carolina, Puerto Rico, Roberto Clemente Walker grew up in a humble family, the youngest of seven children. His early life was marked by hard work and perseverance, with his father working in the sugar cane fields. From an early age, Clemente displayed an exceptional talent for baseball, playing the game with a passion and intensity that would define his career.
Clemente’s natural athleticism caught the attention of local scouts, and by the age of 17, he was signed by the Puerto Rican professional team, the Santurce Cangrejeros. His success on the island quickly led to opportunities in the United States, where he began his journey to Major League Baseball (MLB).
Breaking into the Majors: A New Path for Latin American Players
In 1954, the Brooklyn Dodgers signed Clemente to a minor league contract, but it was the Pittsburgh Pirates who would give him his chance to shine at the major league level. Selected by the Pirates in the 1954 Rule 5 draft, Clemente made his MLB debut in 1955.
The road to success in the United States was not easy for Clemente. As a Black Latino player, he faced the double challenge of navigating racial prejudice and language barriers in a country that was still deeply segregated. Clemente, however, was determined to succeed, and his on-field talent quickly became impossible to ignore.
His cannon of an arm from right field, exceptional speed, and ability to hit for average and power made him a standout. By the late 1950s and early 1960s, Clemente had established himself as one of the premier players in baseball, and his influence on the game was profound. He became a beacon of hope for Latin American players, proving that they, too, could excel at the highest level of the sport.
A Legendary Career: 3,000 Hits and Defensive Prowess
Clemente’s career with the Pittsburgh Pirates spanned 18 seasons, from 1955 to 1972. Over that time, he became one of the most complete players in baseball history. He was a 15-time All-Star, a 12-time Gold Glove winner, and a four-time National League batting champion. His crowning achievement came in 1966, when he won the National League MVP Award after batting .317 with 29 home runs and 119 RBIs.
One of Clemente’s most memorable moments came during the 1960 World Series, when he helped lead the Pirates to a dramatic victory over the New York Yankees. However, it was his performance in the 1971 World Series that solidified his place as one of the game’s all-time greats. Clemente was named World Series MVP after batting .414 against the Baltimore Orioles and leading the Pirates to another championship.
Defensively, Clemente was unparalleled. His arm was legendary — runners rarely dared to test it, and when they did, they were often thrown out with ease. He was a human highlight reel, making incredible catches and showing off his range in right field. It’s no surprise that his 12 Gold Gloves remain among the most in MLB history for an outfielder.
Clemente’s 3,000th hit, recorded on September 30, 1972, was the final regular-season hit of his career. It was a fitting milestone for a player whose combination of offensive and defensive skills was second to none.
Humanitarian Efforts: A Life of Service
While Clemente’s achievements on the field were extraordinary, his legacy extends far beyond baseball. He was a passionate advocate for civil rights and social justice, using his platform to speak out against the mistreatment of Latin American and Black athletes. He was deeply proud of his Puerto Rican heritage and worked tirelessly to support underprivileged communities in both his home country and abroad.
Clemente’s humanitarian work took many forms. He organized baseball clinics for children, donated his time and money to charitable causes, and sought to uplift those in need. But it was his selfless dedication to helping others that ultimately led to his tragic death.
On December 31, 1972, Clemente was on a plane bound for Nicaragua, where he was delivering aid to earthquake victims. The plane, which was overloaded and poorly maintained, crashed into the Atlantic Ocean shortly after takeoff. Clemente, along with everyone on board, perished in the crash. He was just 38 years old.
A Lasting Legacy: The Roberto Clemente Award
Clemente’s death was a devastating loss for the world of sports and beyond, but his legacy has only grown in the years since. In 1973, he became the first Latin American player to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, with the traditional five-year waiting period waived in recognition of his unparalleled impact on the game and his humanitarian efforts.
In honor of his contributions both on and off the field, Major League Baseball established the Roberto Clemente Award in 1973. The award is given annually to the player who best exemplifies Clemente’s commitment to community service and philanthropy. It remains one of the most prestigious awards in baseball, highlighting the importance of using one’s platform to make a positive difference in the world.
Clemente’s number, 21, has been retired by the Pittsburgh Pirates, and there are ongoing efforts to have the number retired across Major League Baseball in honor of his contributions to the sport and society.
The Eternal Hero
Roberto Clemente’s impact on baseball is immeasurable, but his legacy as a humanitarian and advocate for equality is perhaps even greater. He broke barriers for Latin American players, showing the world that talent knows no nationality, and his example has inspired generations of athletes to use their fame for good.
Clemente’s combination of athletic prowess, integrity, and selflessness makes him one of the most beloved figures in baseball history. He wasn’t just a Hall of Famer because of his 3,000 hits, MVP awards, or World Series titles — he was a Hall of Famer in life, a true role model for what it means to be a hero.
Roberto Clemente’s spirit lives on in every young athlete from Latin America who dreams of playing in the big leagues, in every player who gives back to their community, and in every fan who remembers that, sometimes, the greatest players aren’t just the ones who excel on the field, but the ones who leave the world a better place than they found it.

Arrivals & Departures . 06 May 1931 – 18 June 2024 . Willie Howard Mays Jr.
Willie Howard Mays Jr.  nicknamed "the Say Hey Kid", was an American professional baseball center fielder who played 23 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB). Regarded as one of the greatest players ever, Mays ranks second behind only Babe Ruth on most all-time lists, including those of The Sporting News and ESPN. Mays played in the National League (NL) between 1951 and 1973 for the New York / San Francisco Giants and New York Mets.
Born in Westfield, Alabama, Mays was an all-around athlete. He joined the Birmingham Black Barons of the Negro American League in 1948, playing with them until the Giants signed him upon his graduation from high school in 1950. He debuted in MLB with the Giants and won the Rookie of the Year Award in 1951 after hitting 20 home runs to help the Giants win their first pennant in 14 years. In 1954, he won the NL Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award, leading the Giants to their last World Series title before their move to the West Coast. His over-the-shoulder catch in Game 1 of the 1954 World Series is one of the most famous baseball plays of all time. After the Giants moved to San Francisco, Mays went on to win another MVP Award in 1965 and also led the Giants to the 1962 World Series, this time losing to the New York Yankees. He ended his career with a return to New York after a midseason trade to the New York Mets in 1972, retiring after the team's trip to the 1973 World Series. He served as a coach for the Mets for the rest of the decade, and later rejoined the Giants as a special assistant to the president and general manager.
A 24-time All-Star, this tied him for the second most in history. He led the NL in home runs four times and in slugging percentage five times while batting over .300 and posting 100 runs batted in (RBIs) ten times each. Mays was also at the forefront of a resurgence of speed as an offensive weapon in the 1950s, leading the league in stolen bases four times, triples three times, and runs twice; his 179 steals during the decade topped the major leagues. He was the first NL player to hit 30 home runs and steal 30 bases in the same season, the first player in history to reach both 300 home runs and 300 stolen bases, and the second player and the first right-handed hitter to hit 600 home runs. Mays also set standards for defensive brilliance, winning 12 consecutive Gold Glove Awards after their creation in 1957, still a record for outfielders; he led NL center fielders in double plays five times and assists three times.
A classic example of a five-tool player, Mays finished his career with a batting average of .302. At the time of his retirement, he held the NL record for career runs scored (2,062), and ranked second in league history behind Stan Musial in games played (2,992), third in home runs (660), at bats (10,881), runs batted in (1,903), total bases (6,066), extra-base hits (1,323) and walks (1,464), fourth in hits (3,293), fifth in slugging percentage (.557), and eighth in doubles (523); his 140 triples ranked fourth among players active after 1945. He holds major league records for games as a center fielder (2,829), putouts as an outfielder (7,095) and extra-inning home runs (22), and ended his career behind only Ty Cobb in total games as an outfielder (2,842), ranking seventh in assists (188) and third in double plays (59) in center field. Mays was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1979 in his first year of eligibility, and was named to the Major League Baseball All-Century Team in 1999. Mays was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2015.

How Economic Status determines the Right Time to Sell my Gold
Tumblr media
Gold reserves have always been considered valuable for raising funds in the future. But do you know that gold reserves, in the long run, can hamper your country’s economy? In the modern world, the international economic status is rapidly fluctuating. This tumultuous global economy can impose a high price rise or decline your product value to a minimum level.
Geo-political tensions occurring internationally can similarly impose threats on gold prices. An economic uncertainty of global reserves can impact the domestic economy. Whether you wish to sell gold for cash online or at a physical store, it can always help you financially. In this blog, we will delve into how selling your stockpiled gold can contribute to economic growth.
What is the current market status of gold in India?
Gold inflation in India has increased price rises over some time. In March 2024, about 8 grams of 24-carat gold fluctuated between INR 58,520 and INR 58,632. A fluctuating gold price can often make it difficult to purchase this asset with a high initial investment. But selling your gold? Yes, selling gold in this market can provide you with significant value.
However, on March 30, 2024, 8 grams of 22-carat gold cost INR 68,385, decreasing from INR 69,472. Frequent fluctuations in this gold price can reduce your selling price value. So what’s feasible? To avoid the lowest amount of gold sales, it is advisable to sell gold right now in this moderately fluctuating market.
In this digital era, sell gold for cash online can help you obtain instant funds while staying in a remote location.
When is the Right Time to Sell Gold in My Economy?
1. When Demand for Gold Increases
Due to current geopolitical conditions, gold demand is high in India. When demand for gold increases, it is ideal to sell your stockpiled gold.
What you need to understand is that gold demand is not directly proportional to gold availability. In India, gold availability is limited, which has increased gold demand. Obtaining imposed gold can, in return, increase economic inflation.
During this stage, selling your stockpiled gold can earn you significant cash in return. Similarly, selling gold can obtain a legalised fund for instant financial needs.
2. During High Interest Rates
In an economy with fluctuating gold prices, the central bank can impose high interest rates. For India, the Reserve of India (RBI) sets the interest rates for gold. Currently, interest rates on gold reserves vary from 9.5% to 28% per annum. With high interest rates, gold becomes less attractive, and demand might fall.
At this stage, it is advisable to sell gold to a reputed buyer. Are you looking to sell old gold jewellery now? Well, now is the right time to sell gold to receive a significant amount before the price falls further.
3. When the Dollar depreciates in terms of the Rupee
The depreciation of dollar value can be a prominent determinant of selling your gold. In April 2024, the rupee hit a new low of 83.54 against the US dollar. When the dollar value declines compared to the rupee, demand for gold in India increases.
As the dollar value is falling, there might be a high demand for gold. If you sell your gold today, you may receive a significant cash return.
Selling your gold at this point can fetch you a better return than expected. Plus, you may also earn a better cash return than the original price during purchase.
Looking Forward
Current global economic inflation might impose a threat to India’s economy. It is advisable to sell your gold to a reputed buyer. All you need to know is whether the current economy is fluctuating or not. Gold prices might always fluctuate, but when gold demand is high, you can receive a good cash return. Selling your stockpiled and used gold can always be a safe way to acquire independent cash reserves.

When Amit from India calls you in the most unprofessional way. This is not how people act, or conduct business. Totally unprofessional.
Increased GDP is fantastic. Clean up your business practices Amit. This is not how people commit to transparency.
Pettiness, questionable behavior irritates me in the "WEST" as well as anywhere else. The lack of transparency is not productive.
I can't even pin this on Modi. It's a cultural artifact that needs to die in order for Indians to prosper.
Tumblr media
Clever clever.
I hate it when people underestimate my intelligence or make presumptions without respecting boundaries.
Clean up your own fucking house first.
That's incompetence on 2 ends. In Canada and India. More than that it's counterproductive to a flourishing cooperative society.
Perhaps your brilliant billionaires should be planning for the future. Or maybe we can talk about Caste/women's rights with idiots.

Ken Griffey Jr. could do it all. His Hall of Fame plaque reads in part, “A five tool center fielder whose sweet swing and winning smile made him a dominant force and fan favoriteeasy-going nature and love of the game helped define a new era for baseball’s popularity.”
