Masa Kitamiya vs. Takashi Sugiura (NOAH Wrestle Magic 2024)

OH. MY. GOD.

This match feels like learning to drive and then crashing into a 7-Eleven on the other side of the street. Something so immoral, so gritty, so pure and so adrenaline-infusing shouldn't be part of a Pro Wrestling NOAH event in the year 2024. I even feel wrong praising this company but god damn it, this match has me doing it because it's really good. You don't need to look further into this one, this is just two dudes beating the shit out of each other in the third match of this wrestling show, with one busting his head after the most sickening headbutt you're going to hear this week.

There's something to be said about the way NOAH handled Masa Kitamiya, and when even the wrestlers are admitting the company is not using him to his full potential you truly get the wider picture. In this match, Takashi Sugiura is the one to put Kitamiya to the test, and in a great parallelism there's something about Kitamiya that reminds me of a young Sugiura when he was rocking it in early-2000s NOAH, and I think this match could be understood like that. The old dude goes to war with the young dude who should be better presented by a company that prides itself in presenting the most rough and "stiff" style in pro wrestling today, while ironically forgetting to push the young guy that can embody that philosophy better than anyone.

Sometimes pro wrestling can be simpler than it seems, and this match goes to prove there's nothing more honest as pure and sheer destruction in any of its forms. This is such a chaotic approach to wrestling, yet the correct one to have in an industry that is falling into consumerism and defining value based on how much a product sells. This is real music, but it's like hearing noise for the first time. You just vibe with the chaos and start beating your chest while screaming your soul out of your body, embracing what has been society's most effective form of entertainment since the days of Ancient Rome: VIOLENCE.
