on vacation with the f1 boys ✈️
i love to travel so this is just me being self indulgent lol. also disclaimer i know some of the pictures are not from the country i said the vacation is in, bear with me lol. hope you enjoy and drop me any pref requests you might have!
Lando Norris
Destination: Finland
Lando always went on a ski trip with his friends during the winter break and this year he invited you to go along. You started on the easier slopes, as you both had to get the hang of skiing again, but by the end of the day you were tackling some of the more difficult ones along with your group of friends. Afterwards, the group settled down in the ski lodge with cups of hot chocolate around a crackling fire. You all spent a few hours joking around and catching up after not having all been together for a while. To finish off the day, you and Lando went alone to the sauna where you had the chance to decompress together before heading to bed. All in all, the day was well spent and you asked Lando when you would be able to come back even though you knew the answer would be next year.

Oscar Piastri
Destination: New Zealand
During the winter break, you and Oscar did not want to travel too far from his home in Australia, so you decided to go to the nearby country of New Zealand. Both of you loved staying at the beach and so you decided to spend most of your days at the scenic shores of the country. After having a relaxing time at the beach, you decided to tour the country’s mountains together and to take in the beautiful views. A personal highlight for you is a romantic dinner with Oscar in the stunning city of Queenstown. All in all, it is a relaxing trip far from the pressures of racing that brings the two of you unforgettable memories.

Max Verstappen
Destination: Italy
For Max, a vacation was any time he could spend completely away from racing with you and his friends. So, instead of traveling far away from his apartment in Monaco, he wasted no time in going on a boating trip with all his favorite people along the Italian coast. You both spent days lounging on the deck together and nights drinking with the group at the yacht’s bar. The sea made for a perfect getaway from Max’s fast paced life and you could not be happier to get some time with your boyfriend in such a scenic place. Relaxing in the waves truly made for a great time.

Charles Leclerc
Destination: Los Angeles
Your favorite place to visit together was definitely LA. You both had friends who lived there so it only made sense to take a trip there when you both were free. You spent the days on the beach with him, either surfing if the waves were nice or simply sunbathing otherwise. Charles also convinced you to go on the most extreme rides at all of the amusement parks, giving you an adrenaline rush that kept you wanting more. So many laughs were had with each of your friends, especially when Charles insisted on winning you a giant Ferrari colored banana plush at the arcade. You had no idea where you would find space for it in your apartment, but you knew you would cherish the memories it brought to mind.

Carlos Sainz
Destination: Miami
To Carlos, it would not be a good vacation without some golf. So, you both decided to head to Miami where you could find the best of what both of you loved doing, golf and relaxing on the beach. While Carlos golfed in the mornings, you relaxed on the beachfront balcony of the house you were staying in. And during the afternoons, you would both head to the beach to relax in the sand and waves. One morning you decided to spice things up and have Carlos try to teach you to golf, but after accidentally hitting the ball into someone else’s golf cart, you quickly scrapped that idea. Your favorite memory of the trip was definitely the day you spent completely together on a snorkeling trip to see a nearby coral reef.

Lewis Hamilton
Destination: Dubai
When Lewis wasn’t racing, he still loved to be doing something adventurous. Lucky for him, you shared his love of an adrenaline rush. So the perfect destination was Dubai. Every day was filled with excitement, from riding ATVs though the desert to eating at luxurious restaurants in the city. Lewis even convinced you to go skydiving with him at the end of your trip which was an experience you knew you would never forget. There was never a dull moment when you and Lewis traveled together and you knew that once this vacation ended, you would already be planning for another.

Daniel Ricciardo
Destination: Austin
Everyone knew one of Daniel’s favorite places was Austin, Texas. So when he had a week off after the race in Texas, Daniel of course convinced you to stay with him on vacation there for the next few days. He took you to his favorite bars and barbecue restaurants to savor the food. He also took you to a ranch where you got to ride horses through the American countryside. On the last day of the trip, the two of you decided to go to a country music concert and dance the night away. Both of you loved music and so this was the perfect memory to end what was a great few days of exploring the Texan landscape. And of course you had to get a souvenir cowboy hat to remember the trip by.

Yuki Tsunoda
Destination: Mexico
As you and Yuki are both foodies, you decided to go to a place with one of your favorite cuisines, Mexico. You arranged to travel throughout the country to try different foods from various regions. Between meals, you would spend time seeing some of Mexico’s most scenic beaches and visiting some of the tourist destinations like Chichen Itza. The best part, however, was getting to spend so much uninterrupted time with your boyfriend who was always away from home. Though you knew Yuki lived the fast life, all you wanted to do with him was relax. And what better place to do it than in such a warm and beautiful country. As for your favorite food you tried? There were too many good dishes to choose!

Alex Albon
Destination: Phuket
Alex was thrilled when you agreed to go to the country he raced for. When you got there, he excitedly showed you around all of the sights and took you to eat his favorite local food. After a few days of frantically touring Alex’s favorite places, you both decided that it wasn’t truly a vacation unless you relaxed a little bit. So, you spent the rest of the week at the beach in each other’s arms, just savoring the other’s company. There were a few splash fights in the pool and the time where you jokingly pushed Alex off of the boat, but otherwise you spent your time relaxing on the sand. Thai sunsets were truly like no other and you knew you would savor your memories for years to come.

Logan Sargeant
Destination: USA
When you realized that Logan hadn’t traveled much around his own country outside of Florida, you immediately decided that you were going on a road trip to fix that. The plan was that you would go up the east coast, stopping in all of the major cities to see the sights. From Carolina beaches to the nation’s capital, there were surely a lot of things to do. And when you had a boyfriend who drove cars for a living, of course you got to the be the passenger princess. Every time a road sign showed something that sounded cool, you insisted that you stop. Your personal favorite destination was New York, where you got to show Logan a lot of the famous landmarks that everybody would recognize. Once you hit Boston, you decided to head back south to his home state and warmer weather. You would cherish these memories forever.

New Zealand Part 2 (Week 12)
With Milford Sound and Te Anau in the books, we made our way back through Queenstown and to Wanaka, a small resort town on a lake. Most well known for a tree, Wanaka is a peaceful town with a single main street and little else to distract you from the incredible views in all directions. As for the tree, it is not one to be missed. Surrounded by water and a backdrop that belongs on your computer’s homescreen, the scene makes for a satisfying image during the day and an even more satisfying picture at sunset. Judge for yourself:

With some time to kill, I went on what was easily one of the most beautiful runs I’ve ever gone on followed by a quick dip in Lake Wānaka. The sheer beauty and tranquility of the town surely made it one to come back to. After a relaxing dinner and walk around the town, we headed straight to bed in preparation of an early wake up the next day. Then, it was off to Mt. Cook! This was the day I laid eyes on the most spectacularly blue water I never would have imagined. Here is a picture of just one of the lakes that popped up during the drive:

The hike to Mt. Cook, New Zealand’s highest peak, was short, but wildly beautiful. I particularly enjoyed the conversations we had as we hiked. There’s something about walking with friends towards a common goal that brings out the conversationalists in all of us. From getting to know one another’s favorite passions and hobbies, to debating the value of the seemingly infinite photos we take on our phones everyday, everyone was engaged with a walking partner or group the entire time. A Go Blue! was even shouted at a walking passerby in a Michigan sweatshirt. I can assure you we’ve seen one on almost every trip, but I’ve just forgotten to mention it. Here are a few of the views from the hike:
One of the campervans joined us car groups, so this picture includes almost everyone!

And below is the final lookout. Pictured from left to right are Shaunak, myself, Evan, and Joel, a student from Germany taking a gap semester abroad!

We spent the next few days driving down the eastern coast from Christchurch, New Zealand’s second largest city, back down to Queenstown. Unfortunately, this drive lacked the staple lakes and mountains we all loved, and I found it to be less scenic than the western coast. Take it from me, no need to leave the western coast of the South Island except for a quick visit to Christchurch if you want to see what a big city looks like in paradise. As soon as we made it to Queenstown, we let the adventures begin! Personally, I was only adamant about skydiving, so skydive I did. Skydive almost everyone did. Something about studying abroad for a semester really makes students adrenaline junkies. I don’t know if it’s the freedom that comes with living so far from home or the desire to make the most of the once-in-a-lifetime study abroad experience, but I was more than happy to partake. Having done iFly (indoor skydiving) at 10-years old, I was extremely calm going into it. A self-declared seasoned skydiver, I convinced myself I knew exactly what to expect. Boy, was I mistaken. It all happened so fast. As soon as we got to the skydiving center, we were separated into groups, put into gear, matched with a pro, and falling out of a plane flying at 9,000ft all in the span of 20 minutes. While the whole thing lasted just 3-4 minutes, the actual freefall was about 25 seconds. 25 seconds of wind blowing, hands freezing, and utter awe. I simply could not stop smiling the whole way down. The incredible weather met with the incredible views of a lake and mountains was the perfect recipe for skydiving. No matter how scared everyone was going into it, everyone came out euphoric.

Outside of skydiving, the last two days in New Zealand were a choose-your-own-adventure. While some were out at the world’s biggest canyon swing, others were kayaking in the lake and getting massages. Shaunak, Evan, and I found ourselves playing mini golf in sombreros we got from a Mexican restaurant. I also spent a good bit of time on our AirBnB balcony. With this view, how could I not??

All in all, I couldn’t recommend the South Island of New Zealand more to my fellow adventurers and adrenaline junkies. The main thing we learned from the trip was to plan more time hiking and less time in the car! Road trips make us excited to explore as many different places as possible, but constantly being on the move and driving several hours each day really takes a toll on you. But no regrets — I’ll be back!

Milford Track Day 5: The Iconic Milford Sound & Final Thoughts on the Trek
Our last trek day was also not much of a trek - like the first day, it was more of a travel day, but the views were wonderful.

It started with a cruise on Milford sound first thing in the morning. Most of the tourist boats go out later in the day, after all the buses from Queenstown come in, so we felt like we had the fiord to ourselves. It was a perfect blue sky day, and we got to watch the morning sun cascading over the mountain peaks and onto the sparkling blue water. This was a very stark contrast from the last time I did the Milford boat ride - that day it was pouring rain and freezing cold. The rain did make for some fantastic waterfalls, but the mist did not allow for great visibility. Today, I had the opportunity to see the Sound from horizon to horizon, in all of its glory. I’m grateful to have had two very unique and different experiences of this natural wonder.

After the boat ride, we got on the bus for the journey back to Queenstown. The bus ride was extraordinarily scenic, and I quite enjoyed having some downtime to reflect on my time in NZ, and the experience we just had. I admired the fields of golden grasses in the mountain valleys that, to me, are so iconic of the South Island - something I remember seeing when I was here last, that I have not seen in any place since.

Overall, I’d say the Milford trek was definitely worth doing. Ultimate Hikes provided a great experience, making it a very comfortable trip. The hike itself was not overly challenging for me, but others in our group definitely found it to be (our group being mostly in their 50s and upward, mind you!). I could see how it would be drastically more challenging if the weather had been bad, mind you - and it often is, as we’ve been told that it rains on the trek for at least 200 days a year. We only had one morning of light rain, so we didn’t have to deal with slippery rocks or soaked gear.

AND! I wasn’t even cold! I remember being freezing cold on my last trip to New Zealand, especially in the South Island. As such, I specifically packed a thick puffer coat and lined pants in my suitcase, but opted not to bring them on the trek, which was the right call. They told us to “be bold and start cold” every morning because you invariably will warm up once you get moving. I ended up hiking in shorts every day from start to finish. I kept a long sleeve on most days, but less so out of cold and more so to keep my arms and shouldered covered from the harsh New Zealand sun.

Being on this trek has made me aware of how so much more comfortable I am as an adventurer and outdoors-person now, compared to my first visit to New Zealand. I get a bit intimidated by all the technical gear that folks boast about - something I acutely remember giving me anxiety when it came to my first NZ trip. Turns out I have accumulated all the right gear over the years of adventuring. Some of it is very technical outdoorsy brands and others not, but it’s not about the brands. It’s about what works for you. It’s possible that the weather was actually colder and worse when I was here last, which is why I remember being so cold, but it’s also possible that I just didn’t pack well. I was so focused on packing minimal things, and hadn’t had enough travel experience to understand what’s essential and what’s not. In any case, the fact that I’ve been warm here has been quite a treat.

After settling back in at our hotel in Queenstown, Ev and I walked around the town for a bit before meeting Simon for dinner. We stopped back in at a shop called Small Planet - the coolest locally-owned outdoors store we’ve ever encountered. Ev bought a hat from there before our trek, and we had to hold back from buying all their other merch.
We ate at a place called Botswana Butchery, which was a little on the pricier side but a good fit for a celebratory dinner after completing the trek. We finished with another round of Mrs. Ferg’s gelato and sorbet - Si’s 4th or 5th visit! - and then walked along the waterfront and watched the sun set over the mountains and lake.

The Queenstown waterfront is such a wonderful place. Touristy, like most waterfront areas tend to be, but you can also catch lots of locals with their slack lines, and families with their kids… it’s a great energy. When walking through the botanical gardens near the waterfront, we stumbled upon the Queenstown ice rink, and Ev was impressed to see that they have their own local team - the Queenstown Rangers! We joked about how we’d move here so Ev could be their star player…. Who knows, maybe someday.

Goodbye Picton, goodbye Blenheim. We were the only two people on our wine tour. We basically had a private tour of the area with a full tasting everywhere we went. I never want to see a vineyard or a glass of wine ever again.

We’re driving the length of the South Island down to Queenstown, down the east side. A bunch of people told us to stop off at Kaikoura, so we did. They have whale watching and all sorts of marine activities. Our goal was the wild seal colony.

After miles and miles of scenic coastline, we arrived, and the view was phenomenal.

The seal 🦭 colony was well worth our time. We got lucky with the tide and could walk freely across the rocks to watch adults throw eachother off the best sunbathing spots and babies playfighting. Finished up with a seafood platter, of course.

Adventurous visitors can take multi-day jungle treks, canoe through winding waterways and even spend the night in remote eco-lodges deep in the forest. But while Morocco or Egypt’s desert may now be covered with five-star resorts, a camel trek through the dunes allows you to experience the desert as the ancient nomads did. Or for an adrenaline fix, you can sandboard down the steep dunes of Erg Chebbi or Erg Chigaga. For the true adventure seeker, sign up for a multi-day desert survival trek where you’ll navigate by the stars and camp beneath the vast, starlit sky — an unforgettable experience.

ATV tours are led by experienced guides who know the terrain and potential hazards. Always listen to their instructions and stay on designated trails.

Most tour operators offer different ATVs for various experience levels. If you’re a beginner, opt for an automatic ATV with easier handling.
4. Maintain a Safe Distance
Keep a safe distance from other riders to prevent collisions, especially on rough or steep terrains.
5. Avoid Risky Maneuvers
Avoid sharp turns, sudden accelerations, and risky stunts unless you’re an experienced rider. Safety should always come first.
6. Stay Hydrated and Take Breaks
Off-road riding can be physically demanding, so drink plenty of water and take breaks when needed.
How to Choose the Right ATV Tour
With so many ATV tour options available, here are some factors to consider when selecting the right one for you:
1. Destination and Terrain
Choose a location that matches your interest, whether it’s mountains, forests, deserts, or beaches.

Alberto in Sydney N5: Week in New Zealand
It's really amazing how two countries so close can be completely different. This week was the reason why I decided to come to study in Sydney. With a group of 10 friends we decided to take advantage of the free week between the summer semester and semester 1 to go to New Zealand, one of the places I have on my bucket list in life and what a country! Unlike Australia, New Zealand is full of mountain and countryside landscapes, natural parks, waterfalls and hiking trails. We planned the trip in the southern part of the island, where 30% of the population lives and 70% are natural parks protected by the country.
We focused our trip on the South Island, where only 30% of the population lives, while the remaining 70% is made up of protected national parks. Our adventure began in Queenstown, one of the island’s main towns, although it feels more like a charming alpine village. Nestled between mountains and a crystal-clear lake, it’s packed with restaurants, bars and shops, and offers endless outdoor activities such as kayaking, paddleboarding and jet skiing.
For the first few days, we stayed in Queenstown and took day trips to explore some of the island’s most spectacular spots. We visited Milford Sound, a stunning fjord known for its dramatic cliffs and waterfalls where films like The Lord of the Rings were produced; Wanaka, where we conquered the famous 9-hour Roy’s Peak hike, and Glenorchy, where some of the group did bungee jumping.
We then rented two cars and set off on an epic adventure around New Zealand’s South Island, staying in four different towns along the way. We hiked through the stunning Mount Cook National Park, stood in awe of massive glaciers, and enjoyed stunning views of Aoraki/Mount Cook, the country’s highest peak. Every day was a new adventure – we drove along scenic, winding roads, stumbled upon hidden waterfalls, crossed incredible suspension bridges, and did some of the most beautiful hiking we’d ever seen. If you’re doing the Sydney Abroad Program, it has to be on your bucket list because it was one of the best trips I’ve ever taken.
