Queen Kassi was the wife of the Malian Mansa Suleyman (r. 1341-1360 AD), who like most Malian queens would have shared power with her husband. Although Kassi enjoyed substantial popularity with the nobility of the royal court, her husband divorced her to pursue a relationship and then marriage with a commoner named Bendjou. Understandably incensed by both her loss of power and her husband’s infidelity, Kassi and her supporters instigated a civil war by revolting around 1352, although Suleyman and his faction ended up winning. It goes to show you, however, that hell hath no wrath like a spouse scorned (or cheated on).

Malie: What do you mean why? I have school, I intend to finish.

Kona: Couldn’t you go to University in Sulani?

Lilah: Of course she could. That was always our plan anyways. I sent you to this mainland school to learn from other cultures, and because it’s what Stefano wanted-

Lilah: Mother. But the plan was always for you to return to Sulani after you graduated, and go to University there, shadowing me to learn what it takes to be a good Chief. 

Malie: That was your plan, yes, Mama. But then the war happened. I graduated high school and got stuck here, and now I’m enrolled at Britechester and I really like it. I like my classes and my teachers and I like that Beck and I don’t have to do long distance-

Lilah: Of course. It’s not about the war or the school at all. It’s because you want to be near your mainlander boyfriend!

Malie: That’s a bonus, yes, but did you even listen to the other things I said? I like it here.

It was the Empress who housed me at her palace this summer until the dorms opened because that’s where Aunt Misha was staying, and she called me family. It was the Empress and her government who gave us this house to live in until we can get back to Sulani. My father is the most evil man I know, but not every mainlander is exactly like him! You wanted me to learn about other cultures while I was here? Maybe you should too.

Kona: Malie, do not disrespect your mother in this way.

Lilah: No, if that’s how she feels, then that’s how she feels. Is there anything else?

Malie: …. I just wish you wouldn’t let what happened with our father poison you against every other mainlander out there. They’ve done so much for us. I think I’ve had enough family time, I’m going back to my dorm. Goodnight.

Her brown eyes scanned the comments that whizzed by on her Instagram livestream feed and she did her best to shout out her returning followers who commented with wine glass emojis as they greeted her.

"Yesss, y'all know the vibes! We're gonna get into the usual tonight. A little sippin', a little gossipin', and a lot of fun," Mali said with a charming smile on her glossy, red, thick lips. 

It was nearly midnight yet her makeup was on, her honey brown, curly coils were gathered up into a top knot, and she wore a silky, pink pajama two-piece that showed off the chocolate brown skin of her shoulders. That was the vibe of her adult slumber party: Cute, a bit sexy, and lively. It matched her vibe in the daytime as well as she was a model who often kept those three adjectives at the front of her mind as she posed for magazine and Instagram ad campaigns wearing the latest designs from either established or upcoming lux clothing brands. She wore nothing but an oversized, black band tee that hardly covered her slender, yet muscular, tatted thighs, her hand pushing back her longish, damp, and dark hair off her bare and beautiful face as a small smirk touched her pink, plump lips.

"You still up?!" Mali asked in gentle surprise as Rhea knelt behind her to rest her chin on her shoulder. She stared into the camera with that adorable smirk as she waved hello to Mali's viewers.

"Still up. Not tired just yet." Rhea chimed in her husky, slightly raspy accent. Mali found it attractive each time her girlfriend opened her mouth, and it made a tiny thrill shimmy down her spine when she added with a swift, soft kiss to her neck, "But I think you're ready for bed, right, baby?"

"Wha—" Mali tried to ask but Rhea grabbed her chin to steer her lips to hers for another kiss...except this one was slow and sent that thrill through her body with heat that simmered between her thighs. Rhea then had the nerve to carefully flick her tongue along hers in a way that she knew her viewers could see and would make Mali struggle not to moan on camera.

She was so shocked yet aroused by Rhea's behavior that she was stuck and couldn't pull herself away to ask her why she decided to give her fans a peep show out of nowhere. "Umm, now?" Mali whispered and bit her lip as she caught her drift, mystified by her demeanor but mesmerized all the same as she gaped at her through low, pink-painted eyelids and held her girlfriend's dreamy, blue gaze. She gradually found the strength to rip away from it and return her attention to the camera with an apology to her fans who were probably just as confused as her. Yet when she saw all the comments encouraging and urging her to hurry to bed with Rhea, she felt her cheeks warm up with a blush no one could see before her girlfriend nodded and pressed kisses to them. "Uh, I-I guess we'll try this again tomorrow, y'all? Good night, queens, kings, and my fabulous people in between."

Mali blew a kiss to the lens with a final glance at the comments full of every horny emoji there was as she tapped her screen to end the livestream. "Did you sneak some of my wine?! What's gotten into you?" she asked with a giddy grin as Rhea wrapped her arms around her waist to squeeze her from behind her with more kisses on her nape that tickled, making a slight giggle jump out of her. 

"Nope. I just didn't want to wait three hours for you to wrap it up. And I surely didn't want to wait 'til I got back from work to do this..." she replied with her hand slipping down Mali's tummy, the silk fabric of her pajamas making it easy for her touch to also slip beneath the hem. She wasn't wearing panties...which made her girlfriend's soft, wandering fingers sink right between her lower lips, warm and slick from Rhea's kisses. Rescue Mission Success!

Around 3am this morning, Imperial cars pulled up to the docks in Evergreen Harbor, and unloaded HIM Tsarina Ekaterina, Queen Misha, and Misha's niece, Princess Malie of Sulani. The trio lined up on the presentation deck before the sun had even risen, to watch the SS Britechester pull into harbor.

The SS Britechester is the official ship of HIH Crown Princess Ophelia's secret mission troops, the Britechester Brigade, who were sent off on an unknown mission early last week- unknown until today, that is.

Now that the Brigade has returned successfully, mission details have been released: apparently the troops were sent in to rescue Chief Lilah, Queen Mother Kona, and Princess Allinah Mahoe from occupation in the Sulani Islands. The Imperial War Council deemed their allies in Sulani the most at risk from retaliation from Windenburg, and swooped in undercover and in the middle of the night to rescue them from their house arrest imposed by the Emperor's daughter, Crown Princess Martha.

Not only was the Sulani Royal Family rescued successfully, but there was no loss of life amongst the members of the Britechester Brigade- a welcome relief to our own Imperial family who has many members amongst their ranks.

It was an emotional reunion for the Chief and her eldest daughter, Princess Malie, who has been estranged from her mother since the war started. Princess Malie was attending Ivanov Royal Academy in Glimmerbrooke when Sulani was seized by Emperor Victor. The Chief was still under occupation when Princess Malie graduated from the Academy, and when she subsequently started university in Britechester. It's been over a year since Mother and Daughter have seen each other.

Tsarina Ekaterina has designated Cobblemore Cottage, a large manor house owned by the crown in the town square of Henford, as the headquarters for the Sulani Government in exile. Once all reunions had taken place, and HIM congratulated the Britechester Officers, the Sulani Royal family was loaded into the Imperial cars, and began their drive North to Henford-on-Bagley.

From the Asian perspective, would it be fair to say Alexander isn't as remembered there in comparison to the Western world because, to them, he was "just one of the many" of their conquerors?

This is an interesting question in that the basic assumptions are faulty.

First, thanks to the Alexander Romance, Alexander would vie with Genghis Khan as possibly the most famous non-religious historical figure worldwide. That is not an exaggeration. There are legends of Alexander all over, some in places you’d never expect, such as among the Mali in sub-Saharan Africa, and the Malays in Southeast Asia.

In a former answer to an Ask, I said that I thought Alexander would at once be annoyed that Julius Caesar was more famous/recognized in the Anglophone West (thanks in large part to Shakespeare), but assuaged by the fact he beat Caesar all to hell in the wider world. He seeped into all sorts of legends, not always by the name we’d recognize. The Persian Iskander is probably his most famous alternate, but in the Malay legends noted above, he’s Dhul-Qarnayn, from the Muslim Dhu Al-Qarnayn, the Two-Horned One. And he was the inspiration for other heroes, such as King Arthur.

Richard Stoneman (the world’s leading expert on the Alexander Romance) has edited a recent (2022) book on this topic: A History of Alexander the Great in World Culture, Cambridge U. Press.

The other problem with the question, which the asker may not realize, is a seeming assumption that in contrast to the west, Asia was constantly being invaded and conquered. That also is wrong. There have been many, many conquerors in the West, too. How about Rome? What’s really afoot here is a deeply embedded leftover of Roman anti-Asian bias. “Asians” are weak and easily conquered compared to Westerners/Romans, who are strong and love their freedom. That passed into European thought during the Renaissance, fueling a lot of Colonialist ideas and behavior. We (the West) must save the poor benighted souls in the East, both religiously (Christianize them from Islam or their “native” [inferior] beliefs) and culturally (make them dress, talk, and think like Europeans).

This same attitude in reverse was part of first Abbasid, and later Ottoman thinking. 😊 To be fair, when the Abbasids were looking West, Europe was in a pretty sad state. But the much earlier Achaemenid Persians also found the Greeks uncivilized. The Other is frequently seen so by those who use their own measuring stick of what-is-civilization. And one of the ways the Other is “othered” involves portraying them as weak, chaotic, and ripe for conquest and/or frequently conquered in the past—as opposed to “us,” who are strong and the conquerors.

Again, this point of view is so deeply embedded that we may express it without realizing it or even believing it ourselves when pressed. Yet the narrative of the West as “free” versus the East (Asia) as “slavish” is also quite popular with the alt-right crowd—so I try to call it out when it rears its head, however innocently. And I do assume the asker meant it innocently, as most often when someone does make those assumptions, it’s because they heard it somewhere else and don’t have the historical context to recognize the inherent bias.

So I point out that bias.
