Auspicious Offerings Abound at City of Dreams Manila to Welcome the Year of the Water Rabbit
City of Dreams Manila hops into the Year of the Water Rabbit, signifying peace, prosperity, and fertility. To celebrate the lunar new year, auspicious specialties await diners at Crystal Dragon, Red Ginger and TungLok Signatures. From January 16 to 29, the award-winning Cantonese restaurant Crystal Dragon highlights its festive lunar new year menu available for lunch and dinner. For the traditional dinner table Y_u Sheng_ toss ritual, the salad is offered with a twist: Prosperity Roasted Duck in lieu of herring or salmon, with jellyfish, crispy vegetables, and plum dressing. Good for a group of five persons per serving (P1,600++), the ritual augurs good fortune for the group, as they stand and toss the ingredients high up with chopsticks while reciting auspicious phrases to bless all present with well-wishes.The roasted duck symbolizes wealth, abundance, and fertility; the flour crisps, prosperity, while the plum dressing denotes sweetness and harmonious family relationship.
For more abundance, Crystal Dragon offers Steamed Duo Flavor Live Grouper with signature tofu and Roasted Crispy Spring Chicken with supreme soy sauce. For luck and togetherness, the Crispy Taro and New Year Cake Pillow is not to be missed. Other auspicious Crystal Dragon specialties to welcome the new year are: Buddha Jumps Over the Wall; Braised Sea Cucumber and Pork Trotter with black moss and brown sauce; Wok-tossed Creamy Prawns with fragrant shredded coconut; and Wok-fried Fragrant Glutinous Rice with Guangdong cured pork.
Singapore’s famous TungLok Signatures also highlights the quintessential Chinese New Year staple fare. The Y_u Sheng_ salad, which was popularized in Singapore, and known as lo hei in Cantonese, signifies blessings and fortune. Tung Lok’s salad is prepared with salmon, a medley of fresh vegetables, fruits, and other ingredients, each representing a wish during the toss while huat ah! or lo hei! is being recited. It is believed that the higher the toss, the greater will be one’s fortune. TungLok Signatures’ Prosperity Yu Sheng Salad (P2,888) is available from January 16 to 24 and can be shared by a group of six to eight. For direct reservations, call +63 917 7024024.
The season’s flavors can likewise be savored at Red Ginger from January 17 to February 5, which offers five auspicious dishes symbolizing fortune, longevity, prosperity, happiness, and harmony. The ala carte dishes are: Fortune Lao Sheng, a chicken salad with plum dressing; Longevity Noodles consisting of egg noodles with crispy pork belly, and quail eggs; braised Prosperity Pork Knuckle with king mushrooms; Happiness Prawn and Squid, a medley stir-fried in curry XO sauce; and for dessert, Harmony Coconut, a mix of coconut jelly and ice cream. For inquiries and reservations in Crystal Dragon and Red Ginger, call 8800-8080 or e-mail [email protected]. Wonderful meal in a lovely space! If you haven't already locked in your booking for @Vincent.Pun.Im's exquisite Thai #privatedining experience, you might have to wait till 2023 and beyond - he's all booked out till June, and shares that he's headed to BKK to further sharpen his chops in 2H22. Highlights from our hearty evening include the Tamarind Tart starter (pic 2), expertly tempered with the use of young tamarind so it's less sour, stuffed with quail egg and cucumber; sweet potato Dumpling Som O (pic 3) that's savoury outside from dried shrimp and a pleasant explosion of freshness from the filling of Thai pomelo salad within; and his must-try Red Curry Duck Confit (pic 4) that paired shockingly well with Japanese Kumquats. Wow 👍 Excited for what's next! #FindNewFood #Thai #privatediningsg (at Singapore / Singapura / 新加坡 / சிங்கப்பூர்) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cb45fjlrPQt/?utm_medium=tumblr

Marche Oriental
An Asian grocery store located at 7101 Saint Denis St, just a few streets from Marche Jean Talon. Offers to its clients goods from this part of the world, with a wide range of products from countries such as China, Indonesia, Vietnam, and others; however, products from Africa are also available and a couple more from different countries.
What I found interesting about the store is although is a market you can still find items such as rice machines, plates, bowls, cutlery, pans, and even a jewelry store. It was my first time at this store but it was a whole experience, i found different things which i never really saw in my life and other which were presentend in a complete different way.
Ramboutan
Tumblr media
A fruit originated from Malaysia, and also very popular in southeast Asia. People describe its as sweet and creamy, and its colour and apperance are described as furry bright red in the outside with a white center. People often  related it to lychee, because both have similar appearance when peeled.
Kaempfer Fingers or Finger root
Tumblr media
Also known as Chinese keys or Chinese ginger, and used in Southeast Asia for herbal medicine and culinary purposes. The colour as showned in the picture is usually brownish, and their shape is similar to a rhizome. The fingerroot is not as pungent or hot as, ginger and galangal, in terms of flavour and scent. It has a subtle flavour that goes well with shellfish.
Canned quail eggs
Tumblr media
Popular in Asia and South America, these quail eggs are considered to be a delicacy next to none. Having tried them on a regular basis in Colombia, it was odd for me to see them in a can because back in my home country they are usually sold in egg baskets just like chicken eggs. These eggs have a flavour that's very similar to regular eggs. The taste of these canned quail eggs can be described as almost creamy, with a somewhat gamier and grassier flavour. I personally prefer these eggs over chicken eggs since, quail eggs have more taste and flavour which is not very overwhelming and not very underwhelming either but just the right balance.
Cassava crispy
Tumblr media
The Cassava is a perennial plant, commonly known as manioc or yuca, is a drought-resistant crop native to South America. Dahlia tubers are reminiscent of the fleshy roots. Yuca is widely used in Colombian cuisine, and it can be found in a variety of traditional dishes. Cassavas can be cooked in a variety of methods, including boiling, frying, and baking. But this is the first time I see crispy yuca, originary from Africa. The taste can be compared as the one from a potato but a little drier.
Bánh lot
Tumblr media
When I first noticed this product at the store, the colours immediately drew my attention, and it's honestly something I've never seen before. This dessert is a sweet rice pasta delicacy popular in southern Vietnam. Rice, salt, tapioca flour, coconut milk, sugar, and water are the ingredients used to make it. The texture is chewy, and the scent is pleasant. Although the dessert is Vietnamese in origin, it is also popular in Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, and other Southeast Asian countries
Tumblr media
“ I loved the store; I will certainly go back, as I enjoyed this experience. “

With school break, Christmas, New Year and so many upcoming holidays all lined up, why not venture off your usual getaway routines and explore these friendly yet fascinating cities in the Pearl of The Orient Seas?
No it’s not another Southeast Asian country other than Thailand, Vietnam or Cambodia. In fact, Philippines’ history goes way back that its culture is unique on its own. For one, it is the only Asian country that is - not predominantly Buddhist or Muslim but - Christian due to its Spanish colonial influence in the 16th century. It’s no surprise the nation is crowded will beautiful churches and cathedrals to visit!
Now that there is a flight promotion to Manila and Cebu by AirAsia, it’s a money-saving opportunity for you to check out one of these two fun-filled cities.
Can’t decide between the two? Check out some interesting things to do from both the romantic Manila and action-packed Cebu and find out which destination suits your getaway better:
Manila
Celebrate Christmas in Manila
Tumblr media
(Source: The Restless Pinoy Traveler)
Planning to spend Christmas in somewhere festive? Manila’s Christmas celebrations may most probably be more traditional and authentic than, say, Singapore’s! From merry decorations and twinkling lights to seasonal shows and cheerful tunes, you can literally feel the holiday vibes no matter which corner in this city you go to.
Embrace the sacred beauty of Catholic churches
Tumblr media
Come anytime else, and you’ll still be able to feel the holiness of the city as it is populated by ancient, majestic churches existing since the Spanish colonization years. Take a cultural tour around some of the most iconic churches in Manila, such as San Agustin Church (the oldest church in Philippines) and San Sebastian Church for their elegant architecture, artistic styles and rich history.
Sample Pinoy street food
Tumblr media
(Source: Junpinzon)
No trip is complete without a local food challenge, and in Philippines, it’s an absolute must to tackle this notorious delicacy - balut. Can’t stomach the stress? There’s still so many more extraordinary but equally yummy Pinoy snacks that you can easily get on the streets, including kwek-kwek (fried quail eggs), fish balls, adidas (chicken feet), turon (banana lumpia) and more. Up your game and pair your street food with San Miguel, the beer most loved by Filipinos.
Take a stroll down history lane
Tumblr media
(Source: Yannah The Wanderer)
Shaped by history and romanticized by culture, antique sentiments are kept alive in this modern and progressive city through preservation of historic sites and landmarks. There is never enough sightseeing to be done: take a cultural walking tour in Intramuros, the oldest walled districts carefully rehabilitated post-WWII; learn about Filipino heritage in the beautiful National Museum; pay tribute to Philippine’s national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal at the iconic Luneta park.
Cebu
Watch… or Swim with Whale Sharks!
Tumblr media
(Source: LasieAttitude)
Sharks are always fascinating sea creatures, and in the clear waters of Oslob, Cebu, you get to do more than just witnessing the friendly resident whale sharks! Dive into the water and get up close and personal with these gentle giants by taking a whale shark swimming tour. Remember not to use sunscreen to help protect these endangered species.
Canyoneering in Kawasan Falls
Tumblr media
(Source: Reserve PH)
If you’re an outdoor sports fanatic who enjoys walking, jumping, swimming, trekking, abseiling and the like, you’ll want to challenge yourself to the next level of excitement: canyoneering, which is a combination of all aforementioned activities in the wild. You’ll need a local guide for this, as you embark on an adrenaline-pumping journey climbing through canyons, high jumping into water pools, and ending with a dip in the refreshing Kawasan Falls.
Visit a 450-year-old Roman Catholic Church
Tumblr media
(Source: Wikipedia)
Cebu is also not short of beautiful places of worship to visit, and many of them remain until today to be some of the oldest churches in Philippines. A must-see in Cebu is the well-preserved Basilica Minore Del Santo Niño, where you can find on public display a replica of the statuette of Santo Niño that had been discovered ages ago.
Time travel by entering Philippine’s oldest fort
Tumblr media
(Source: Ronrag / Flickr)
A popular historic attraction in Cebu and even Philippines, Fort San Pedro is known to be the oldest fort in the country, built in 1565 by the Spanish. It may be the smallest, but during its earlier glory, it served not only as a functional military defense structure and rebels’ prison but even the city zoo as well. Today, visitors flock the fort for a glimpse into the war times and the Spanish settlement.

Singapore Flyer Sky Dining Experience
To commemorate a special occasion, my partner and I decided to embark on our first ever Sky Dining experience at the Singapore Flyer. The weather decided to have plans of its own and we found ourselves reminiscing about the history of Singapore at the Singapore Flyer Time Capsule while waiting for the skies to clear up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And yes, this shot is my “ Tron-esque” tribute where I am grateful to be receiving the three course dinner waiting for me at my Sky Dining experience.
Tumblr media
As the skies finally cleared up, we were quickly ushered into our pod along with 3 other couples. First item on the menu is the classic Kronenbourg 1664 Blanc to quench our thirst while we eagerly anticipate our first course.
Tumblr media
First course is Miso Tofu Mushroom Salad featuring Quail Egg, Mixed Mushrooms, Citrus Miso Dressing. It is a delicious appetizer that is surprisingly refreshing and satisfying, inspiring my partner to take notes for our culinary experimentations at home.
Tumblr media
Second course is Boston Lobster served with Japanese Wasabi Cracker, Yellow Frisée, Pearl Onion, Gherkin, and Wasabi Tobiko. It is a fine dish though paling in comparison to the appetizer.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next up is our two main courses. First up is the Deep Fried Lamb Rack marinated in Rosemary Buttermilk infused with 1664 Blanc Beer and served with Mesclun Salad, Pumpkin Purée, and Mint Mayo Pesto. Lamb has always been a tricky meat to prepare and the beer did not seem to alleviate the taste of the dish significantly. It is still a worthy attempt though a suggestion is to reduce the batter coating to avoid overpowering the star of the dish.
Tumblr media
The second main course is Shogayaki Chicken served with Sautéed Herb Potatoes, French Green Beans, and Shoga Sauce. Overall, the dish is fine though I would have preferred it to be a bit less salty. The Shoga Sauce is definitely the main attraction of the dish as it helps to tie the dish together.
Tumblr media
For desserts, we were treated to Banana Soft Pudding with Mixed Berries and a selection of tea and coffee.
Tumblr media
Our Sky Dining experience would be incomplete with spectacular views of our beautiful city skyline.

Overall, the Singapore Flyer Time Capsule and Sky Dining experience was an amazing adventure. We had a lot more fun than expected with a delicious dining experience, attentive service, and lots of memorable moments to cherish for a lifetime.
