My Team STRQ designs

I decided I take a crack at designing team strq from one of my favourite shows rwby! I even made a height chart. I hope you enjoy (click for better resolution)

After the 3rd post about Vacuo designs, I think, I have decided to create new outfits for 100 characters that would appear in Volume 10.

I count Ozpin as a character, also minus the Summer Maiden and Zwei (yes, I count him as a character too), so technically I only have to redesign 97 characters. Background characters in the show will likely change the least or not at all, so I'm just gonna adjust them slightly.

I have a list, but it still hasn't reach 100, already included book characters

For the record, I don't have any fashion sense whatsoever, this is like a side challenge and side project to help me productive and also to study the design in RWBY.

Ruby Redesign for my RWBY Re-imagining. Her design is probably the hardest to create for the girls for me, because her debut was nigh perfect.

Design Notes:

I combined the ideas of V1 and V2's designs, since a good usage of gray would work better with tan-ish skin (she's lighter than Yang in complexion).

There is a lot of design motif she shares with Yang; both wears a qipao jacket, similar boots, flared over skirt, and the same utility belt (with different buckle accessories).

While Yang's carp fish motif is more obvious with her sash, I wanted Ruby's to be more subtle, hence the ruffled sleeves and petticoat with the over skirt to create the idea of fish fins and tail.

Ruby also shares some design motif with Qrow, mainly his crucifix accessories and cape color, as well as the arm garters.

Hi, you don't have to answer this if you don't want to but what are you personal headcanons for the rose-xiao long family if you have any :)

I've been curious for a while now seeing how positively you view their family dynamic compared to a good majority of the fandom

i'm. honestly not sure if i really have any? like, canon provides sufficiently enough that i don't have this huge "need" to come up with any.

like, the most is derived from my own desire to "redesign" their house and where it's located lol. no one can tell me they wouldn't have a small garden in the backyard where they grow food during the summer—like carrots, onions, potatoes, etc—and that each plant has been named by ruby and yang. every single year there also has to be a patch for strawberries, as demanded by ruby (and tai is like, the worst when it comes to actually saying no to his daughters), doesn't matter that there are wild strawberries growing in the forest not even five minutes of walking away.

on the kitchen doorway there's height marks for each girl, always tracked on their birthdays—though the latest are from the day before they went to beacon, mainly bc ruby wanted to know how much she would grow during her time at beacon once she graduated.

and like, tai's overprotective but like i said, he's also the worst at saying no if ruby or yang really want something, so if ruby wants to make one of the most dangerous weapons the world has to offer to use as a weapon, well... he'd prefer if she picked literally anything else, please and thank you, but he'll also make the call to qrow to get his ass over here, ruby made a scythe but she sucks at it and now she's sad and this will not do. train her or else.

or how yang has a motorcycle like that's?? expensive??? but also a Death Machine™ like please, not again... but he's still going to save money for it and buy the dorkiest helmet possible as a promise that she will get her motorcycle, eventually, because safety is important and if yang wants to ride a motorcycle, she's gotta be prepared. (and yang could have absolutely bought a different, much cooler helmet by the time she actually got her bike, but the dorky helmet means something, so she wears it with pride.)

whenever qrow comes back from his missions, he brings some kind of souvenirs to the girls, especially when they were younger. he may not stay around for a long time each visit, but he tries to make it memorable.

there also totally should be a small lake within a five or ten minute walk of their cabin for swimming and fishing purposes, be it summer or winter, it makes no difference.

also x2 tai has absolutely tried to teach ruby and yang how to cook. ruby just seems to get distracted by something every single time, and yang just keeps discovering new ways to mess up to the point it feels like a sabotage, but she swears it isn't. the kitchen tho? definitely cursed.

Got some body diversity in your redesigns? Regarding Cinder's more uncouth state, I bet her dress is covering a huge beer gut (or that could be reserved for Qrow).

Tbh my redesigns have been a little same-y bodytype wise, I could prob mix things up more. You actually got me thinking abt other characters now hmmm...

As for cinder or qrow I could could see that!

Ruby - Atlas Design Critique.

I'm ending things off with a post about Ruby, now I do love making these kinds of posts but I don’t want to make it a top priority because, of course, I wanna draw other things especially since I start college around the corner. These posts tend to take more creative juices from my small brain. Until then, just consider critiques/redesign posts on a hiatus. 

RWBY Archives

I’m glad you guys were able to see me talk about outfits in a negative, negative, neutral-positive, and now POSITIVE way, mainly due to being biased. The archives say pretty much the obvious in her having a new style and being more cutting-edge with the look aka more stylish. I think they nailed it as she looks more mature and better yet her corset is way more reminiscent of Pyrrha. You know? The friend Ruby wants to honor since she saw her die right before her eyes- I can keep gushing about how cool she looks but uh, again I’m being biased, she’s cool-looking but not… practical. As in this outfit isn’t necessarily good to wear in Atlas, or rather the tundras. I wouldn’t mind this if she was solely stuck in Atlas/Mantle but she goes on outside missions, why on earth is she wearing a mesh? If anything this outfit would serve better if she was in Vacuo. The outfit had an alternative version of No Sleeves and even her presumed Volume 10 outfit looks so identical to her Atlas design.

Amazing how even the best outfit in Team RWBY still doesn’t make her look warm for the climate.

Hair

Remember back in my Blake Critique post on how I said I hated the ‘Spitting-Image of Parent' trope in fiction? They could’ve given Ruby a ponytail to look similar to once again; Summer, but they didn’t they got Ruby’s messy bang out of her field of vision and swooped it to the left! She looks 100% cuter and combat ready and while everyone was excited at her for looking more like Qrow, I was excited cause her hair looked more like Taiyang’s hair in being swooshed to the left. Though I wish they gave a reason as to why Ruby changed her hair all of a sudden, when characters change hairstyles it’s usually to show a display of growth with a ‘Show Don’t Tell’ reason but I’ll be biased and assume Ruby just wanted to look more mature ever since stood her ground in Argus for a reason I don’t wanna rant about.

Primary Color - Red!

Ruby doesn’t fail in representing her color of Red. The long red cape already does the job well plus her red skirt, she’s a gold star for being a red-themed character. But when it comes to her sleeves, blegh. I’m sure people have noticed this by now but Ruby’s sleeves are light gray which is so similar to her skin tone, which puts more emphasis on her arms. I swear the first time I saw the teaser trailer and saw Ruby’s model, I thought they decided to ditch the sleeves but no. The sleeves are just super light like her skin. I think it would’ve helped the design if they either made Ruby tan like her sister or made the sleeves a darker gray.

Negatives?

I do love Ruby’s Atlas look but as I said I can’t be biased. As cool and cute as she looks it isn’t a proper outfit for the cold environment she’s in, she even shivers in the show canon. The sleeves matching her skin look weird. An open skirt is silly and what’s sillier is a belt holding it in place. I also really hate how Ruby’s cape was just… replaced. Back then I thought her cape had significance as she continued to wear it even when it was withered and tethered, but even back then I thought her Vale cape held more significance- but anyways it was just replaced. Whatever I guess- oh my god it’s the same cape with lazy fabric around her neck. They couldn’t give her a different styled cape? One where it’s held together by a string? Buttons? Pins? No?...

Redesign

Okay, I know it’s crazy, but I ditched the cape and emblem. I know, I know! I just used the canon logic and since the cape didn’t mean anything to Ruby for it to be replaced, she could just ditch it for now. I know the cape is an iconic element but I couldn’t find a way to incorporate it. I also ditched the metal emblem, I know it’s a ‘mother’s promise’ and her mom’s emblem but uh… she didn’t wear it in Volume 2, I didn’t think she would care to wear it now. I wanted the look to be different but I think I just made Ruby unrecognizable now. I know the formula is to have Ruby wear a cape and the metal emblem but I just… couldn’t. I’ll confess to you guys about something, the main inspiration for this outfit was Ruby’s Ice Queendom design. I love it and wanted to try to get Ruby with that similar vibe, but I can understand if everyone may not like this. No cape, no metal emblem, and looks a little more childish when Ruby is supposed to be mature. I get it, but I wanted to show you guys that you shouldn’t be afraid of drastic changes to designs. It can sometimes work and sometimes not. 

Conclusion

Ruby’s outfit is still arguably the best amongst her team even when it’s not climate-appropriate, as much as I nag about her sleeves being too close to her skin color and the decision of her cape being repaired I still do love it. It isn’t perfect I can admit that but she is on the top best Atlas designs for me. If this outfit was instead held off for Vacuo or a return to Vale, it’d be top fifteen at the very least in all of the designs we’ve seen across the show. 

But of course it’s just my opinion. If you love this design or hate the design, please share your opinion. I’d love to hear it! :D

what made you decide to start streaming?

This is honestly a super tough question. I think maybe the earliest I felt I wanted to entertain people was watching bootleg copies of Uncle Kage's Story Hour on youtube as a kid (you were supposed to be ordering the VHS back then, you see.) There was a certain gryphon in there as well, but we don't talk about him.

I think the furry fandom in general back then really introduced me to a lot of different forms of entertainment and expression that gave me the itch.

That kinda festered for a while until I watched Idolmaster and it started being a more noticeable desire for me, but I still didnt really have an outlet.

Jaydee got designed some time after this (around 2014 at least, but probably a few years earlier.) A musical robot inspired by groups like Daft Punk, Gorillaz, Hatsune Miku, etc. Intended to be a costume "someone" could wear to conventions and play as a character, again very obviously inspired by the furry community of the time.

I started playing with the idea of doing something online around this time as well.

"Cant afford a costume, maybe a puppet? Cant afford a puppet, maybe animation? Is there a way to do live animation? Is there a way to do DIY mocap??"

The answer was no. But then this BITCH (loving) appeared.

Kizuna AI showed that there was a way to do what i wanted to do, but the tech was still inaccessible for quite a few years. Live2d was still focusing on selling its tech to game devs, Vtube Studio was still years away, etc. but i did start keeping my ear to the ground in regards to it.

Of course hololive and nijisanji happened at some point after this and the vtuber boom happened, suddenly a bunch of things became accessible.

A lot of stuff happened all at once, I found and joined Vtuber Academy, found and read Fafrotsky's Live2d Guide, and learned my sister had started streaming in her off time and she had said i would likely enjoy it/be good at it. (not a vtuber, and i refuse to tell her my twitch name lmao)

So i redesigned JumpDrive (shortened to Jaydee for marketability,) installed the free trial of Live2d Cubism, and got my ass to work.

Vtuber Academy was very helpful in helping me find a community to start out with (shoutout to Effie, Yoichi, Pastry, Frog, Jitio, Cups, Trashy, Qrow, Justice, Robert, all the warriors.) and i absolutely recommend finding like minded people to support/help support you if you're trying to make it as a streamer.

I wouldnt have made it this far if it wasnt for people like them as well as the friends ive made along the way (thanks to Melody and Kero in particular for accepting me into their sphere.)

So yeah, technically this is something i've wanted to do for most of my life, but the inciting incident was a family member showing I could just start doing it whenever i wanted.

Okay so I have a lot of ocs a few that I don’t use or draw so I’m going to go through them and either scrap or redesign them.

The ones that are just going to be revamped a bit are Willow, Eli, Sam, Oscar, qrow and sera.

I’m thinking of combining Ethan and Emily into one character and the others we’ll see about.

Oh also I do have two new ones but I want to make their character sheets before I post about them.
