#QL bingo

I was supposed to post this several days ago, but my paintings wanted something different. Anyway...

I and a friend of mine recently reminisced about the time when we made bingo cards predicting whom we thought would die in each season of Game of Thrones. And it gave me the idea to do something similar for QL shows. But, instead of predicting who will get killed (because we don't do that here), I would just throw out some ridiculous shit.

And, because I had too many ideas, I chose to do 3 cards. One "normal", one sexy, and one delulu (because I like being delulu about certain things once in a while).

Here they are:

(EDIT: For some reason, I wrote Triage instead of Transplant on my previous bingo cards, but I've corrected it now. And if you think I desperately want Transplant, and with Max & Tul, you would be correct. And you would be correct to think I'm delulu about it.)

Since I also love to torture myself, I came up with the splendid idea that if I get a bingo, I'll watch a show I'm on the fence about (just one bingo per card, btw). And if I get all of the predictions right on a single card, I'll re-watch a show I absolutely do not want to watch.

I had to go looking for this post in my likes because i didn't reblog it for some reason??? Because YES YES YES EXACTLY I'm seeing a lot of people being angry at Lom and I get it, I do. I too am frustrated and don't want Nuea to be hurt any more (him calling his mom crying and lost and wanting to be held broke me ngl). But after this episode and meeting the moms? OOF

There were two moments this episode that gave me a deeper understanding of Lom's mom and his relationship with her: 1) when he got more daring during the pre-wedding shoot while his mom did not dare to argue or scold Lom in front of an outsider (Nuea in this case) 2) and when she had already started making arrangements for the house to be remodeled so Wa could move in, Lom would live with them permanently, she mentioned grandkids ... and Lom just looked so tired and frustrated and disregarded, like When will this end?/To what end? She says 'you can't do this much for me when I've given in/yielded/allowed you so much?' and 'I can't be losing any more face'---

And I went Ah. Okay then. Filial piety be damned. Of course she'd say that. She has no idea how much he's been the one to give in to what she wants for his life. 13 years. The fact alone that he considered chucking the damn ring into the water spoke volumes about how much he feels for Nuea and wants to tell him the truth. 13 years. Wa didn't tell Rine for half a year, and Rine has gotten used to being demeaned by Wa's mother!

Lom tried reaching Nuea for like half the episode, to no avail, and when he finally did get a hold of him, Lom's been drinking for hours, clearly upset from the (never-ending) fight with his mom, feeling guilty about making Nuea hurt, and all he clearly wanted at that point was the same as we saw earlier when he held Nuea's hand to catch a break from the moms. It's stupid to be seeking refuge with the one person who's at the very core of the entire messy situation, of course it's stupid, but who else could or would Lom want to be close to when he's feeling like shit? It's not fair to Nuea, we all know that, but it makes complete sense to me. This show is still a romcom but we're past the midway point so the arc of suspense kinda had to go there.

Sorry for hijacking your post for a lengthy Lom defense but I had to, considering how nicely you explained the crux of the matter. This show feels surprisingly more queer than other MAME stories and I'm loving it.

Did not expect Wedding Plan to hit me in the "we all have our ways of coping in a homophobic world, and sometimes my way conflicts with your way and it hurts us both" feels, but here we are!

The reasons explained for both the wedding and the secrecy were surprisingly hinged. Lom and Yiwa have been partners, if not lovers, for 13 years! We don't know the exact combination of social, filial, and financial reasons made them choose to stay closeted, but it's an understandable choice. The marriage is about giving them each greater freedom, and the ability to continue to support each other. If you think that's far-fetched, you haven't been in these trenches long enough. I have friends who have done pretty much exactly what Lom and Yiwa are doing, minus the big ceremony.

And while I spent the first half of the episode wondering WHY Lom still wasn't telling Nuea, it made perfect sense when Yiwa explained to Marine. They HAVE only known Nuea a couple months. In hesitating to tell him, Lom is putting his loyalty to Yiwa above a cutie he's just met. He does need to tell him soon, and clearly he's thinking about it, but it's not something he should do carelessly.

The lavender marriage is a long tradition and it seems to make a lot of sense for these two, but the kicker is: Nuea loves weddings. The proposal scene was giant fanservice (and thanks be to it!) but it also let us see again how giddy this boy gets about engagement and marriage. You know he wants an elaborate, romantic proposal, you know he has binders full of plans for his own wedding. It's important to him, and that's going to become a problem. Marine may be a little disgruntled about the whole arrangement, but ultimately okay with it... Nuea is simply not going to be happy with a future where he doesn't get to live out the full romantic rituals.

So what do they have to give up, that straight couples take for granted? Do they sacrifice the familial support and social acceptance? Do they sacrifice Nuea's big wedding dreams? This is still a fluffy show and I'm sure things will turn out happy for everyone, but the question is real and poignant.

Bingo Card Updates (2025 Edition)

I previously published a post with 3 different bingo cards I will track until the end of 2025. I wanted to start early with this because several shows are coming out at the end of this year going into the next that I wanted to include to see if I could get any predictions or ridiculous/delulu ideas correct.

Any QL show I'm watching that started after the 14th of October 2024 and before the 31st of December 2025 is included.

(I made the cards a week or two before I managed to publish them on the 23rd of October, but I've chosen the 14th of October as the start date, which was the week before.)

I will track my progress once/month (or when needed) to see how I'm doing.

Since I also love to torture myself, I came up with the splendid idea to watch a show I'm on the fence about if I get a bingo (just one bingo per card, btw, since there could potentially be 10+ bingos/card, and I don't have that many shows I'm on the fence about, lol). And if I get all of the predictions right on a single card, I'll re-watch a show I absolutely do not want to watch. More about this after the cut.

Japanese QL Corner

People continue to misbehave with the shows being generously provided via fan sub, which means we might have to jump through more hoops or be forced to wait awhile to finish them soon. The good news is that one of them has been picked up for international distribution by Netflix, so we will eventually see it all one way or another! For this week, we still got our two fan subbed shows, with the last one airing weekly on Gaga.

Smells Like Green Spirit

This week we explored comphet, as all of our gay characters lived or relived failed experiences attempting to be attracted to women. Perhaps not the specific gay experience you had on your bingo card for this show, but certainly one many queer people go through. I appreciated that despite featuring an episode about gay boys puking when confronted with sex with girls, the story didn't villainize the girls at all. Fuji is a terrifyingly competent and confident queen and she bounced back from Mishima's rejection with no problem (and with a sapphic twist??). Instead this served as both another way for Mishima and Kirino to bond, and to show Yanagida still dealing with the same thing at an older age. I'm not entirely sure yet what the show is trying to say by putting Yanagida and Mishima on parallel tracks this episode, but I am paying attention. Meanwhile, Yumeno continues to hover around being both viciously homophobic and overly interested in Mishima at the same time. I don't love this romance set up, but it's definitely coming so I am bracing for it.

Love is Like a Poison

I LOVE THIS SHOOOOOOOOOOOOOW. It continues to be both smart and funny as hell, and the character and relationship dynamics are cooking with gas. Here at the halfway point, both men have realized they've fallen in love with someone they shouldn't have, and seem stumped as hell about what to do with that. I love love love that Shiba fell for a scammer even knowing he's a scammer, and Haruto fell for his mark when he had no intention of taking this man seriously. I just want them to figure out how to make this work so they can live happily ever after investigating fraud, doing domestic chores, talking to their succulents and having lots of hot sex.

Chaser Game W 2

This week Fuyu's terrible mother was dispatched with surprising swiftness when Fuyu kinda out of nowhere developed a backbone. Okay, I guess! But before that, Yeoreum got to shoot her shot with Itsuki, who inexplicably turned her down after one drunken night. There truly is no accounting for taste. It seems that Yeoreum is not yet admitting defeat, so we'll get to see her again next week, yay!

For the months of September and October, we're running a crossover event! The idea is to write, draw, vid, gif, whatever Playboyy with other media. You can go as short and simple or long and complex as you want with this, the only requirement is that your stuff be posted by October 31st.

Six months ago, @blue-grama wrote a little fic called Closer To The Heart, that crosses over Aob from Playboyy with Jim from Moonlight Chicken. I have been thinking about that fic at least weekly ever since, and the fact that because it has various settings, Playboyy crosses over with a lot of other media surprisingly well. 

Kinnporsche? Jason Lee is literally known to be Mafia; Aob is his right-hand man and Prom and Porsche his sons. Nuth and Phop sell drugs. Sex workers are pretty omnipresent with organized crime, so any of the Playboyys could get worked in as well. Hell, Chay goes to school, so throw the baddies in too! 

Only Friends has a school setting and a character whose father is involved in organized crime. Not Me has poverty and twins, and I know there's some real parallels paralleling there!

You can put outside characters in the Playboyy settings, put Playboyy characters in crossover settings, or anything else that your heart desires that combines Playboyy with another QL. The only thing I ask is that you represent characters and not actors.

You are allowed to make all types of fanwork: art, fic, gif, vid/edit, podfic, playlist, meta, whatever. Please tag your work with #playboyyxcrossover, and if you post on AO3 please put it in the collection.

I can't wait to see what fandom comes up with, I'm sure just like Playboyy Bingo it will be riches beyond my wildest dreams~

PodPapang debut. They’ve been hanging out so much since signing the same manager, and some of Papangs posts lately have been such thirst traps that’s I think Pod took.

Drake and a new partner as a side pairing. He’s definitely going to show up as a side character, but I just don’t know who he’ll be opposite.

Typical high school drama. You know, the ones that only half of us watch and wish were queer.

DrakeFrank return. Listen, I know it’s not going to happen. I know. But bright have a cp right now and they were always better together, and I wish Frank would do a Singto and come back to GMMTV (even if they suck at times).

JanMook GL. PLEASE GIVE ME THIS. They are so good together, and if I can’t have KanPang, give me them in some other way.

ForceBook & TayNew as co-leads. I just feel like they would work so well together, and they hang out quite a bit now (what with Tay and Force working together in Scarlet Heart).

KristSingto series. I know we haven’t had The Ex Morning yet, but I feel like there’s a lot of attention on them so they’ll probably get something.

TayNew series. They’ve literally been hinting at their appearances lately, and since they just refuse to admit Home and Peach are in love, I think we’ll get another series.

JimmySea series. I was under the impression this cp was ending soon (isn’t Jimmy going away for studying?) but with their latest American fanmeet and the fact everyone else expects something from them, I think they’ll get an announcement.

Khaotung side character. I would kill for another FirstKhaotung series obviously but I don’t see us getting an announcement for them together again until 2025. However, o do think Khao is going to pop up in something, maybe with Gun?

Marriage centred series. With same sex marriage being legalised, you know there’s gonna be some GMMTV version of Wedding Plan or something.

PondPhuwin series. This time last year I wasn’t overly fussed with this pairing but We Are finally won me over and I love this ship so much. Give me more.

GeminiFourth series. I think we’re about due one, but I’d like it to be more mature? Like, we know they do well with series themes (Moonlight Chicken for example) and I’d love to see them do more like that.

LYKN members in a series. I know they’ve done things before (right?) and everyone seems obsessed with Lego, so I feel like they’re gonna start showing up in things more.

EarthMix series. I feel like they’ve been gone so long! I know they’re filming Ossan’s Love, but I think we’ll get something from them.

Poly BL. I don’t think this is going to happen, but it would be nice.

PerthSanta leads. The waters have been tested and people want it.

Old man yaoi. I love how when we say this we literally just mean men in their 30s or 40s, which isn’t actually old 🤣 but aye.

GreatInn series. They blew us away with Wandee Goodday, and I think the company are smart enough to know what to do with them.

Surprise BL pairing. It’s about time, right?

Our Skyy 3. Again, I feel it’s about the right time for this, and for those included I would like to see: Cherry Magic, My Love Mix-Up!, Wandee Goodday, and Only Friends. I feel like Last Twilight will be included but I don’t want that after the way it ended.

OTG+N series. It’s been so long since these four were in a series together, and it would be great to see them together.

all jokes aside, i honestly do have way too many wishes when it comes to what i want to see from GMMTV and most of them are very hyperspecific, so instead of giving you just an endless list of whatever random ideas or pairings i’d like to get (which is maybe more appropriate for a bingo card or something like that), i kinda condensed it all into some more general categories (sort of. a couple fo these are still pretty specific ;;;;;;;;)

anyway, here we go!!!!

1. WOMEN. literally my top wish after anything jimmysea related is MORE. WOMEN. like srsly give me viewjune as the main pairing in a GL!!!!!!!! give me sizzy in any combination!!!!!!!! give me women centring shows where the women actually get treated as the main characters!!!!!!!! give me the GL version of series like only friends and we are where the women get to be silly and nasty!!!!!!!!! give me jamie kissing women as a treat to me specifically!!!!!!!!! GIVE. ME. WOMEN.

2. historical QL. after the success of i feel you linger in the air and with both idolfactory and domundi working on releasing historical QLs in the near future, i think it’s about time GMMTV also gives us a proper one. possibly with no time travel or reincarnation involved, for once

3. plot driven QL. this is kinda tied to my wish for an actual slow burn and partly to the following point as well, but i do desperately wish we could get a QL series where the romance is obviously still there, but it’s not the main focus of the show, or at least not the only one. something like manner of death or triage, where the romance just happens along the way as the story unfolds. i think the closest GMMTV got to it was with not me, but it would be nice to get more, even if i know this is not everyone’s cup of tea

4. some variety please for the love of god. look, i know we’re never gonna get rid of school settings and office romances, so it’s pointless to wish to have none of those, but i do desperately need a bit more diversity. of the fifteen series announced in part 1, seven of them are set in school. SEVEN. that’s basically half of the offer they’re giving. and okay, if we consider only the QL shows then the ratio is better (3 out of 9), but still. give me thriller shows, give me horror shows, give me fantasy shows, give me sci-fi shows, give me jobs that aren’t just office workers or chefs, give me mystery, give me crime, give me cashiers and doctors and detectives and firefighters and taxi drivers and teachers and librarians and waiters and bartenders and mechanics and lawyers and flight attendants and therapists and farmers and hairdressers and reporters, JUST!!!!!!!!! explore something new!!!!!!!! take some risks!!!!!!!! i know GMMTV as a company is not as big as we think it is and that it focuses on teens and new generation audiences, but i don’t think younger people want to see students and office workers exclusively……

5. QL exploring other sexualities and gender identities. just give me ace main characters, trans main characters, non-binary main characters, ALL THE DIFFERENT QUEER MAIN CHARACTERS!!!!!!!

6. pepper/papang/guy/podd in any combination as a main pairing in a QL. love and light to all the rookies but if GMMTV doesn’t give these men some main roles im gonna start committing grand scale larceny to cope

GMMTV 2024 BINGO CARD YAAAY

Thank you for the brilliant bingocard . It is so so so great and I had so much fun @icouldhyperfixatehim I had a bit too much fun with the bingo and took the orange squares for my relatively fixed predictions, the purple ones for things I wish would happen but are unrealistic and the greenish ones for things I could imagine happening in some sort but not 100% like that even tho I WANT to. AND I KNOW it's partly not possible to read it. But HERE WE GO!!

Predictions

GemFourth in a BL with a highschool Plot

They revealed already that they will have another show. And I just can’t see that GMMTV would put them in University or somewhere else already.

WinnySatang Show with Inn Sarin as support in a highschool comedy-

I think they will test the waters with that. For Winny and Satang as Mains and for Inn as a new actor under GMMTV aswell.

2nd MilkLove GL, maybe sportthemed.

I think they will not gamble. They will give us more GLs finally but want them to be safe, so they will cast Milk and Love for another one. Which is TOTALLY fine for me but I think they will give them another one to play it safe yes.

A political Drama from P’Nuchy – Bonus for Gun and Papang in it

Okay I admit it I just want another political story. Leave me alone. Also Gun and Papang are always doing great in system critique shows and I am still not over Not Me and I will never be.

JoongDunk in a something darker Show, maybe Mafia or Fantasy, Bonus if Vampires

No words to be added. The Dum Dum Performance lives in my mind rent free and I think I am not the only one with this.

I want EarthMix to work with Jojo and I want them to change their dynamics. I think Sexwork would fit in typical Jojo Plots. And I think it would suit them. I would welcome a crime themed show with open arms too tho and I think Earth an Mix talked about that sometimes ago…

Ensemble Show with “old” couples/ “first generation" BL Actors but mixed and matched.

As in OffGun, TayNew, Krist, Ohm, First, I DUNNO SMTH LIKE THAT AND LET IT BE MESSY. I don’t know I am not a big Krist-girl but I think he has a comeback with all his concerts and stuff? Also I just want to see OffGun and TayNew in a show together.

Musicthemed ViewJune GL and Janhae and Aye as a Sidecouple

Listen… Ive DREAMED about Janhae and Aye as a couple. They would kill me and if the four of them had a britrock band together at university, that would just make me straight up cry of happiness. Let them be sweet together and irlekawö.

Strangers from Hell Thai Remake or something similar because I want it okay?

I don’t know, I have no reason for wanting that besides, that I think they would do great on that. I don’t know who would be fitting for which role tho. But it would be awesome right?

Mark/Neo as leads in a fluffy romance with Ford in a support role

I think Mark and Neo surprised all of us. And Ford and Mark as well. I want them in a fluffy romance to see how that would turn out for Mark and Neo but I want it to turn a little bit darker towards the end and let Ford have a bigger role on it.

Family Drama with a queer subplot where the mid 20s playing over 40s and other mid 20s actors playing under 20s even though they are all the same age.

We haven’t seen weird age-casting enough, I guess. But beside that I want to see family dynamics more. I was a sucker for Moonlight Chicken. Gimme something like that again.

NaniDew BL or at least them both together as Mains in a Show which is kind of queer baity.

Since they are selling Nani Dew Puppets at the GMMTV shop I am sus. They had weirdly mad chemistry at Homeschool if you ask me and I cant totally imagine them to try this out. But in the case that GMMTV don’t want to put them in a queer story I think they will at least queer bait us with them in a Midnight Museum kind of way.

FirstKhao in a BBS Styled Show with P’Aof

First and Khao wanted funny and lovely. They should get it. P’Aof could make them work in that. I can see that. So much.

Gem Fourth Plot is the political Nuchy Drama maybe.

I love it when they are playing kind of more serious scenes. And I think youngsters fighting the system, maybe throwing some molotowcocktails would fit them.

Femalelead Show from the PS I Hate you Team but in a PS I hate you way not in a the Jungle way

I loved Ps I hate you. I loved it so much. Sadly The Jungle didn’t do it for me so much. So maybe another try with the same girlies just with them as leads? Also make it sapphic pls.

Historical Drama with Phuwin or Pond or both in it

Not gonna lie they did GREAT in the Our Sky EP. If BL or not, Id love to see them in a historical setting.

Great Men Academy - Much like 3 Will Be Free and The Warp Effect, Great Men Academy isn't a BL, but it doesn't stop it from being queer af. It has a unicorn that grants wishes, a magical lake that requires nudity to activate, a ghost, a school sanctioned Hunger Games, body swapping, and an Elite level moment:

If you don't get the Elite reference, know that this lead-paint-level-toxic hottie, Cruz, delivered the best line ever uttered in the series:

The Warp Effect - I came for Joy, the cinematographer who also did KinnPorsche, and Jojo, the director who does everything else I love, but stayed to see all the ways people could come... to an understanding about their sexuality. Also, it's very queer.

My Beautiful Man 2 - I do not condone stalking, but when it comes to my idol and his devoted worshiper, I'm trying to invent new ways of stalking, so Hira can always be within a 100 yards of Kiyoi. They should be more red flags than California during fire season, yet they are wholesome and adorable.

Never Let Me Go - It has a teenager becoming the CEO of his family's multi-million dollar company and another teenager being his bodyguard falling in love! How could I not love it?! It's outrageous! And somehow the most unrealistic thing about this plot is there being a genuine good guy who openly talks about bitcoins, and I LOVE HIM! I did not have falling in love with a man who enjoys "investing" on my BINGO card, but then again, look at my very good boy. LOOK AT HIM!

Hit Bite Love - It's so messy. It has stepbrothers in love, open discussions about condom sizes and lubricant, Kinks-R-Us, a bi Burger looking for his King, and so much more. This past episode hid a pivotal scene behind a paywall due to the two characters having sex in the school's locker room, so half of the plot was missing in the edited version. It made NO SENSE, but I didn't care. Give me all the mess, but I draw the line at taking off your sock and putting it in someone's mouth. BAD BOY! VERY BAD BOY!

The End of the World with You - Japanese BLs stress me out. They give me a lot of an anxiety, and I'm constantly preparing for someone to die or for one of them to be a murderer. Even in the "happiest" Japanese BLs, there always exist this undercurrent of malice..and I'm attracted to it. >insert Ritsu aka El Diablo<

Moonlight Chicken - Eff "More than Friends, Less than Lovers!" That's child's play. Give me my HussyVille Gang Gang! Give me the "we've been breaking beds and each other's backs since day one, but I'm not even sure what his name is, and if I'm being honest, I don't really need to know" squad. Then, on top of that, it's EarthMix doing the devil's boogie?! I waited for over a year for this, and I don't say this often when it comes to men, but the anticipation was worth it.

HIStory 5: Love in the Future - I will always show up to a Taiwanese BL. They are like Rihanna at the Super Bowl. They do the bare minimum but are still very entertaining, include all the fan favorites (domestic bliss, high heat, office romances, good side couples, marriage equality), and pop out with a few surprises. Others may be disappointed, but I am ALWAYS pleased.

My School President - Did you read the list before this? There is a common underlying theme. Even if the show isn't messy, I'm going to find the mess and fixate on it, and it doesn't get stranger than Por's obsession with the chinchilla. GMM better get on merchandising this critter ASAP because there is a gold mine behind this, capitalizers.

Bed Friend - It hasn't started yet, but I'll be watching it. It has a Blue Boy and Red Rascal BUT they are not who would normally be coded that way, which means they are clearly going to have to resolve the reasons why they changed their behavior to cover up their obvious colors. Who hurt our Red Rascal that he turned into a nun? Who harmed our Blue Boy to make him the slutty slut he is? I cannot wait to find out!

Chains of Heart - One word: Papi. Wait, sorry. Let me try again: Poppy. The show has a plot, and I care about it, but...Poppy. He is playing a bad guy, which I got a glimpse of in Love Mechanics, so I'm hoping it means we get to see more of him, and I don't mean screen time, although I wouldn't be opposed to that either. Obviously, I have to be interested in the actual plot since he is a supporting character...but POPPY! mmmm, papi!

Pull out your BINGO cards cause we got mermaids!

First vampires, now mermaids. Next year is the year for fantasy themed QLs it seems, finally we're moving away from ghosts. I'm still putting my money on werewolves at some point, and if we do get one I hope for it to be a GL because of the whole lunar cycle lore and menstrual cycle fitting together so well. Seriously, if you wanna see a really good movie that blends the AFAB menstrual cycle with the legend of the werewolf, check out Ginger Snaps. It's a Canadian made film from the early aughts, it’s horror so be warned, it gets bloody (no pun intended).

Vampires, mermaids, (possibly zombies depending on how gay zomvivor is) I really do think werewolves is the next logical step. I highly doubt fairies would be used, too on the nose, too many chances for homophobic jokes.
