Defined Space: ALE Shells

The Shell manufacturing corporations of ALE are a fusion of the 21st century automotive industry and the military-industrial complex. They are weapons of war marketed like luxury sports cars. Where other factions' manufacturers will throw around notions of "taking pride in craftsmanship" or "upholding patriotic traditions", ALE Shells are just extremely cool, and no attempt is made to obscure this. It is the dream of many a young ALE-ien to own their own tricked-out Shell, and playboy businessmen have private garages the size of department stores to house Shells they rarely pilot more than once. ALE Shells possess the same libidinous allure that makes middle-aged men buy Porsches and people on the internet draw pornography of anthropomorphized aircraft.

Some sales analysts at one of ALE’s Shell manufacturing companies performed a study that showed the most popular Shells all had names composed of  two different one syllable words with the first one being a color, and made it an industry standard. Now, ALE mechs all sport names in line with this standard: RedWine(mid-range), BlackHeart (melee skirmisher) ,BlueBird (aerial recon), GreenHorn (mobile defense), WhiteOut (heavy artillery), GoldBar (radio/computer interference). Etc etc. Contracted aces/specialists get unique combinations with extra syllables: SilverHawk, YellowJacket, PurpleReign, AzureQueen. The color of the mech always conforms to the name, and generally refers to their combat role. The actual paint job of the Shells are always a very glossy finish in a very bright hue of the titular color, and are almost completely monochrome, with joints or other small details usually painted black or gray.

In terms of chassis design trends, many individual companies try to put their own spin on things, but the industry trends towards semi-transformable designs featuring limited flight or ground traversal, with lots of fins and flares (think the pronounced spoilers or the tailfins of cars from the 50s and 60s). The operative word for ALE Shells is always "sleek", and even the bulkiest and slowest designs have a sense of elegance and aerodynamics to them. Privately owned models usually have heads resembling motorcycle or dirtbike helmets where the “visor” is a thin strip of sensor cams hidden by tinted glass, while those sold directly to other corpo-states for military efforts have similar aesthetics but a sensor strip that more resembles an insect's compound eye.

Takeover Pittsburgh

Iceburgh from the Pittsburgh Penguins joins me along with the Blues mascot Louie gatecrashing as we look back on Game 2 of the PWHL Takeover in Pittsburgh that took place on the 17th March between the league's biggest rivalry Montreal & Toronto and I have to say I was not impressed with how low their attendance was

From the college football transfer portal, to our pet peeve about the NFL Red Zone, to the NBA in season tournament, we are asking Santa for a number of improvements! Finally, our Daly Dose Top 5 is counting down five sports teams that should be finding themselves on the Santa Claus naughty list this year!
