Punakha was the capital of Bhutan and until 1955, (when the capital was moved to Thimphu). Again the main things here are Monasteries (and a Nunnery) and hiking.
On the way the Punakha we visited Chimi Lhakhang which is a fertility temple. Once here we visited we hiked to the Khamsam Yulley Monastery which was a longer walk than the last one and in even hotter weather. We drove, thankfully, to the Lhuendrup Nunnery before finally visiting Bhutan’s second oldest fort the Punakha Dzong.
