Trick or Treat (Zosan X reader) P2
Plot: You, Zoro and Sanji celebrate Halloween with your two kids while staying in a holiday house.
Warning: Making out and Fluff
Reader is Female sorry, Your two kids are Kuina age 6, girl with Blonde hair and curly eyebrows but your eyes and skin tone. Beau age 1, the name means beautiful in french. The baby boy has Zoro's eyes and skin tone but your hair with a few steaks of green. Zoro X Sanji X reader, Poly relationship, established relationship.
P1 - P3 - P4
With warm cloths and jackets on you all make it to the large open field full of pumpkin's of all shapes and sizes. Kuina pulls a little on Sanji's hand determined to find the best pumpkin for her design "Sweet heart slow down" Sanji laughs a little pulling his daughter to a stop, she looks up at him and sighs trying to calm herself down. You walk up to her and pat the girls head while Zoro carry's Beau on his shoulders "We have time, don't worry" you smile as she starts walking again this time not pulling her poor dad along with her. As you walk around you notice a few families around but mainly focus on your own "How about this one?" you ask picking up a small but wide pumpkin with a long stem "It weird looking" Kuina looks up with a puzzled look making Sanji laugh. "Pumin" Beau calls out stretching his hands around Zoro's head to reach for it, the swordsman takes the boy off his shoulders and holds him in his arms as you walk over with the Pumpkin to let him touch it "Almost baby" you love how he's trying so hard to learn new things and its super cute when he gets it wrong "Pump-kin" you say hoping he will copy you but he doesn't instead he touches the light orange pumpkin in your hands "I guess the little man has found his" Zoro laughs holding the boy with one arm while grabbing the pumpkin with the other "Daddy look?" Kuina yells out making you realize she's dragged Sanji off while you were distracted.
Zoro sighs "That girl has too much energy" you laugh at his comment and rubs his back in comfort starting to walk to catch up with the two blondes. Sanji walks over and bends down looking at the large dark orange pumpkin his daughter is looking at "Wow, that's big... too big i think" Kuina look up at him with a sad look "Oh sorry" she looks back down only for Sanji to pick her up "Hay it's ok, we'll just find something else" She smiles holding onto her dad as he continues to walk "How about that one?" Sanji asks pointing to a medium-sized pumpkin but the girl shakes her head "It's too thin" Sanji laughs a little and continues to walk as you and Zoro catch up to him "Anything honey?" you ask putting your arm around the cook's waist "I think you two had more luck then us" The cook comments looking over his shoulder at Zoro still holding the baby boy and a pumpkin "There was a big one back there that was the right shape" Kuina points out still looking around until she pulls on her dads coat "That one" she gasps pointing to a pumpkin that looked just like the big one but much smaller "I'll get it" you smile stepping over the patch to grab it as Sanji puts the girl down.
You grab the pumpkin and step back over as Kuina holds out her arms to take it "Are you sure honey?" you ask, you know your little girl is strong but this pumpkin is heavy "I got i mama don't worry" You sigh bending down and placing it in her hands slowly letting go in case she can't take it, her arms droop when you almost let go so you didn't want to chance it. You took the pumpkin back as she gives you a pout "You don't want to hurt yourself for later tonight right?" you ask making her sigh and nod "I've got it my love" Sanji walks over taking the pumpkin off you as Kuina takes your hand "Sorry mama" she looks up at you only to see you smile down at her "It's ok honey, even i had a hard time holding it. we're lucky your farther's are strong" you laugh as Zoro walks next to you, Beau playing with the pumpkin stalk "Pumpin" you sigh lovingly at the little boy, he's almost there with the word "You'll get there one day little man" Zoro laughs as Kuina joins in "I bet he'll be able to say it before we go trick or treating" she smiles up at her farther who looks down at her with a smug smile "Really? and what do you bet?" he asks as your daughter thinks for a moment "I bet... 20% of the candy i get tonight"
You can't help but laugh along with Sanji who's walking in front "50%" Zoro smiles as his daughter glares up at him "25" she yells out letting go of your hand to stop in front of him. You let the two talk while walking up to Sanji who wraps an arm around your waist watching the show "What do you think?" Sanji asks kissing your cheek "I think our little boy can do it" You smile tuning to the cook and kissing his cheek back "Fine 35% it is" Zoro agrees smiling down at the girl "Good and if i'm right then i get to dress you up as an angel for trick or treating" Zoro's eyes widen taking a step back as you and Sanji break out laughing, the swordsman glares at the two of you but it doesn't stop you "You can't back out now Zo" Sanji laughs out trying not to drop the pumpkin in his arms with your help "You were so confident before what happened?" you laugh out placing your head on Sanji's shoulder trying to calm yourself down. "So what do you say dad, deal" Kuina looks up with a big smile, very proud of herself. Zoro sighs and nods "Deal" he lets out watching you and Sanji try and calm down. You manage to catch your breath and look up at Sanji who's also managed to stop laughing "You got it?" you ask still helping him hold up the pumpkin, he nods and holds it close to his chest placing his forehead against yours "You know what this means right?" he asks giving you a mischievous smile "Oh yes" you place a kiss on his lips before pulling away as Zoro walks over with a joyful Kuina at his side.
You take the girls hand and walk to the nearby shop that just so happens to have a cafe and play area. "You guys fancy a hot chocolate?" you ask only for your daughter to grip your hand tighter "yes please" she calls out making you laugh "Yea i could use a drink" Zoro nods stopping outside the shop with Sanji who hums in agreement and pulls out a Cigarette showing you he needs a smoke "I'll take the kids and order, see you in there" You take Beau in your arm and walk off with the two as Zoro and Sanji head in to pay for the pumpkin's, if you knew the cafe was here then you would have stopped there first but the shop was at the back of the place. You take the two kids inside and order 4 hot chocolates, Kuina helps you pay since you have a child in your arms before heading back outside since there weren't any tables inside plus you wanted to keep an eye on your daughter if she decided to go to the playground which was in site only form the outside. Your daughter pulls over a high chair making you smile "Oh thank you sweetie" you helping her the last bit before making sure its clean and putting Beau in it. "Can i go play?" Your daughter asks looking over at the playground "Wait until your farther's get back ok" she nods and takes a seat next to you.
When the hot chocolates come with cream and mini marshmallows on them you place one in front of your daughter "Remember to blow" you smile seeing her eyes light up and take the spoon digging into the cream and eating it. Zoro places the pumpkins on a chair at the table and sits down soon followed by Sanji who had just finished his cigarette "Wow the whole works, you spoil us my love" Sanji smiles taking a cup and setting it in front of him as Zoro does the same "Thanks Baby" the swordsman smiles leaning back in his seat "I aim to please" You shoot back grabbing a plastic mini milk cup and opening it handing it to your son who happily drinks it before drinking your own hot chocolate. Sanji takes a spoon full of cream and leans over to let Beau eat it. "Mom" Kuina tugs on your coat getting your attention "Yes sweetie you can go now, stay where i can see you ok" You smile running a hand through her hair before letting her run off to the play ground. You watch her for a while before grabbing the empty milk pot and dipping it in your hot chocolate. You blow on it to cool it down then lean over to Beau helping him drink it "Gods you are so cute" you smile kissing the baby's cheek once he's finished. Zoro watches Kuina as Sanji gets up and takes Beau out of the high chair seeing he's starting to wiggle around "Come on little man" The cook helps Beau stand on the floor and holds the boys hand letting Beau walk over to the chair that's holding the pumpkins "Kuina with berries and now Beau with Pumpkins" you laugh watching your son run his hands over the pumpkins.
Sanji laughs with you keeping an eye on the boy while he examines the pumpkins and chair before starting to walk to something else, Sanji takes the boys hand and walks with him to a bunch of potted plants. "Come here baby" Zoro pats the seat next to him still keeping his eye on the play ground. You get up and walk over but hug him from behind instead of sitting down making him smile and reach his hand up to rub your arm. Placing a kiss on his cheek you lean foreword to look over at where Kuina is "Gods i need a nap" Zoro sighs leaning his head into you as you kiss his temple "Hopefully this will tire her out" you laugh watching your daughter swing on the swing set "We should all take a nap" Zoro takes your hand and kisses it a few times before you kiss his cheek and pull away "Lets go then, i am tired" you sigh as Zoro gets up and grabs the pumpkins while you head off to call your daughter "Kuina" you call out getting her attention as you stand at the edge of the playground becoming her over with a smile. Your daughter gets off the swing and walks over to you taking the hand you hold out to her "We going back already?" she asks looking very tired but also kinda sad "Yea, we're all tired, we'll have a short nap and then carve those pumpkins" She nods at you as you two walk back over to the table, Zoro holding both Pumpkins and Sanji holding a very tired Beau "Did you have fun?" Zoro asks earning a nod and a yawn from his daughter.
Opening the door you step into the warm house Kuina walking in still holding your hand shortly followed by Zoro who kicks his shoes off and walks to the kitchen to put the pumpkins down. Sanji closes the door once he's in being quiet not to disturb the sleeping baby boy in his arm. After taking your shoes and coat off you take Beau from Sanji who helps you take his little boots off and his coat managing not to wake him "I'll put him down, then i'm probably going for a nap" you whisper holding the baby close to you "I'll join you later" Sanji whispers back placing a kiss on your lips before letting you go. You head to your room and place the baby in the crib kissing his head before walking over to your bed and sitting down, you didn't realize how tired you were until now so you only took off your pants and got under the covers not bothering to get changed into something else.
Sanji watched you head into the room before going to the kitchen seeing Zoro yawning "Y/n's put Beau down and is going to take a nap, you should join her" Zoro smiles down at the cook and nods "Yea i will, you should join us too" The swordsman leans down and lazily kisses the cook who kisses back with a bit more energy "Can i join?" Kuina yawns as her two dads pull apart "Of course baby girl" Zoro walks over picking the girl up as Sanji follows walking into the bedroom seeing you passed out in the bed only your pants on the floor. Sanji heads round to your side and gets in behind you pulling your back into him as Zoro lays his sleepy daughter under the covers before getting in. You steer a little but Sanji kisses your shoulder "It's ok love" He whispers closing his eyes and falling asleep. Kuina cuddles up under your arms snuggling into you as she starts to fall asleep, Zoro smiles watching the three of you running a hand over your hip, his fingers touching Sanji's hip before feeling relaxed enough to close his eye.

How old are apprentices?
Very light spoilers with warrior name and protagonist reveals.
How old are apprentices?
What I mean here, is how old are the characters in relation to human ages. Because there are several ways you can go about figuring this out.
I’m getting this out of the way now. There are a lot of charts comparing human ages to cats, like this one from Pumpkin Pet Insurance, that shows that at 6 months old, cats are roughly 10 and at 12 months they’re 15. In my experience with cats, this is fine. A one year old cat tends to go through a moody teen phase that they seem to age out of by the time they’re 2, and this goes along with the chart nicely.
I’m setting aside the real cat ages charts, though. I think that that they’re really not helpful in figuring out ages of these characters. The cats in Warriors really don’t resemble their real-life counterparts at all, and I don’t think that Warriors is sending out child soldiers here.
Instead we’re going to solve this puzzle by talking about a super exciting topic… Marketing in the book industry!
If you're feeling impatient you can jump right to Tl;dr at the end.
Marketing and Children’s Literature
Warriors is marketed as a middle grade book series, but what does that mean?
First, you need to understand that until very recently, children’s literature was all under one umbrella. Also, there were very few teen books running around. Teen Librarian Toolbox has a good info graphic about the history of YA literature, and how it became a branch of its own. This was a slow progression, but I feel pretty confident that YA didn’t come to full maturity until the early 2000s. For context, Into the Wild was released in September of 2003. This was right as Harry Potter was becoming seriously popular, and just before the really big boom series of the 2000s. As someone who was 13 in 2003, I’m telling you from experience the teen fantasy section was sparse at my local library. From 2003-2010 the section really exploded into a lot of different books, but in 2003 specifically there wasn’t a lot going on.
In publishing, and writing, marketing is absolutely everything. You need to identify a target audience, so that bookstores and libraries know where to put the book. Warriors came out kind of in the middle of the Redwallseries being published. In the 1980s, when it was first released, it was marketed as Children’s Literature. Warriors has a lot in common with Redwall, enough that the two series would be targeting the same audience. Redwall was Children’s Literature, which by the time Warriors was released in 2003 has split into Middle Grade and YA.
So, if you’re a marketing director and you’re publishing books in the early 2000s, your options are publishing a book aimed at the same demographics as an already established series in a genre that was more established, or taking a risk on the new YA field. The obvious choice is to go with the first option.
So, how do you know if a book is middle grade?
The Novelry has a great article that discusses how to tell if a book is for the YA or Middle Grade crowds. If you scroll down and take a look at the chart they made, Warriors is a very interesting series. Let’s take a look at some stats.
Criteria 1: Word Count
Middle Grade books are 30k-50k words
YA: 50k-75k words
The Prophecies Begin: Average of 70,627 words across the whole arc
Point for YA.
Criteria 2: Romance
Middle Grade: Romance is light and fluffy. Some crushes and first kisses.
YA: Range of possible relationships, explicit sex is often off screen. Complex romance is possible, including cheating and forbidden love.
I think it’s obvious The Prophecies Begin have a lot of messy romantic things going on. It does still skirt around the issue of sex, but it was 2003.
Another point for YA.
Criteria 3: Violence
Middle Grade: Vague, limited violence that isn’t too graphic.
YA: Well, yeah. YA can get dark.
I think it’s obvious Warriors falls into the YA category here as well.
In all 3 cases, Warriors is clearly a YA book. But, it’s not marketed that way. They can get away with this because…
The Characters are Cats
I once had the opportunity of meeting Tui Sutherland at a literary convention I had attended, and during her panel and my conversation with her afterward, she talked about her Wings of Fire series. She commented that one reason Wings of Fire was able to do the things it did, was because the characters aren’t human. This is a really important detail, because of a 4th criterion I purposefully left out.
Criteria 4: Age of Characters
The general rule of thumb is that kids read up. Meaning that they like to read books about characters that are slightly older than themselves. If your target audience is age 10, then you need characters who are 12. If you are aiming for 14, your characters need to be 16-18.
Tui Sutherland’s point about Wings of Fire was that age didn’t matter because her characters were dragons, and so didn’t need to follow the normal rules of character ages.
At a different convention, I had the opportunity to see Tamora Pierce in a panel discussion, and she made a really interesting comment about her own Tortall series. Back in the 80s, as I mentioned earlier, there was only children’s literature. You didn’t have the same marketing divides. Her character Alana, who at the start of The Song of the Lioness quartet was 10, was free to grow up through the series without having issues. She also could include some heavier themes, because there wasn’t a hard line between ages yet. Pierce during the panel mentioned that Song of the Lioness couldn’t have been written today as-is because of the new marketing landscape. Harry Potter kind of slipped into the same category, since the series started in the early 1990s.
The point is, the other criteria don’t actually matter that much. At least, not when compared to age. The age of the characters drives the rest of the book, and forces it to fall in line with the other criteria I discussed above.
But, like Wings of Fire, Warrior exists outside of the normal rules because the characters aren’t human. Warriors is basically a YA series that is masquerading as Middle Grade so they could snag the Redwallreaders and have a safe market to sell books. It’s a loophole in marketing.
Which brings us back to the original question…
How Old Are Apprentices?
Tl;dr: I’m pretty confident that apprentices are about 13-14 years old in human terms.
In order to be convincing middle grade books, the characters need to start their journeys at the correct middle grade ages. The content of the books is clearly edging into territory that is not suitable for young readers (think age 8), so they’re really trying to target the 11-14 crowd. Since kids read up, the characters in the beginning need to match that expectation.
Which is why every new arc has an apprentice floating around in the first books. It’s the character designed to draw in the middle grade readers. They’ve also, if you’ve noticed, had protagonist point of view characters shared with very young warriors.
Hmmmm?!
Yeah, that’s to catch the YA crowd. I think that young warriors are something like 17-18 years old.
To prove my point, here are the main point of view characters by arc:
Arc Two (The New Prophecy)
Apprentices : Squirrelpaw, Leafpaw
Young Warriors: Brambleclaw, Stormfur
Arc Three (Power of Three)
Apprentices: Lionpaw, Jaypaw, Hollypaw
Arc Four (Omen of the Stars)
Apprentices: Dovepaw, Ivypaw
Young Warriors: Jayfeather, Lionblaze, Flametail
Arc Five (A Vision of Shadows)
Apprentices: Alderpaw*, Violetpaw, Twigpaw
Young Warriors: Alderheart
Arc Six (Broken Code)
Apprentices: Shadowpaw, Rootpaw
Young Warriors: Bristlefrost
There are only two notable exceptions of the series starting with both apprentices and older cats, and that’s Power of Three and A Vision of Shadows. Power of Three is a bit unique in that I think it was attempting to do a sort of soft reboot with a new cast of characters and get new readers. A Vision of Shadows is kind of interesting, because most of Alderheart’s characters arc is actually in book one of that arc. After that he serves as the young warrior. I actually think that this is a 5 book arc with a prequel. The arc really gets going in book 2 with Violetkit and Twigkit.
In The Broken Code, Shadowpaw and Bristlefrost start the series as either nearly warrior age or already a warrior-age. Shadowpaw’s siblings are both warriors at the start of this arc.
The fact that these are cats, allows them to age up into adults. With a normal human character, this just wouldn’t happen. And not just because of the time skip issues, because as we see with Song of the Lioness, a series can allow the characters to grow and even have children of their own. As Tamora Pierce and Tui Sutherland pointed out, today’s marketing landscape just doesn’t allow for human stories like this now. And that’s a shame, because I think we’re losing out on some great stories due to these arbitrary marketing rules.

RJ's Platinum Collection #6: Pumpkin Jack
Achieved on 7/23/2022 at 10:32 AM
I happened to stumble upon Pumpkin Jack when I was perusing the PlayStation store, and it happened to be on sale for like 7-10 bucks. I looked up a review of the game and was pleased to hear that it was a spooky and funny 3D platformer that harkened back to the classic days of games like Spyro, Crash Bandicoot, Ratchet & Clank, etcetera. So I decided to get it and get its platinum!
So, our protagonist is none other than the infamous Pumpkin Jack himself, the legendary figure who tricked the Devil out of taking him to Hell when he died, only to end up as a ghost wandering the Earth forever when Heaven didn't want him either. Except now the Devil's undead army is being defeated by a powerful wizard, so the Devil gives Jack a pumpkin-headed body and promises to lift his curse if he helps him defeat the Wizard and unleash Hell on Earth.
Yeah. We're the bad guy in this one. And it's FUN.
The game consists of six levels, starting with the Fields. You start off with a Tutorial, and I also got my first crow skull collectible and my first weapon and three trophies as well.
1/33: Prying Eyes - Pick up your first crow skull.
2/33: Brand New Body - Finish the Tutorial.
3/33: Shovel Face - Equip the Legendary Holy Glory Shovel.
Using my new Legendary Holy Glory Shovel to kill a monster got me a fourth trophy.
4/33: Skull Breaker - Defeat a monster for the first time.
And then I stumbled upon the Vendor, who you can find in each level and purchase cool new outfits from.
5/33: Fashion Victim - Buy your first new outfit from the Vendor.
I then continued playing the first level and encountered a puzzle where my pumpkin head detached from Jack's body and had to smash up some crates.
6/33: Crash Boo-ndicoot - Solve the crate smashing puzzle in the barn.
I then found the other main collectible of the game, which are gramophones hidden on each level. When you find them, Jack does an absolutely awesome dance. Groove it on, pumpkin man.
7/33: Boogie-Man Wonderland - Find a gramophone and DANCE, DANCE, DANCE!
The crow skull collectibles were all also very easy to find. I had no problem finding all 20 of them in the Fields before I got to the final boss of the level, the Scarecrow, and defeated him for another trophy.
8/33: Skull Finder - Collect all crow skulls in the Fields.
9/33: Curse of the Scarecrow - Defeat the Scarecrow.
As I continued through the Mines, the Swamp, Skeletown, and the Graveyard, I realized that each level basically had the exact same set up. You do platforming and fighting, but you also do a pumpkin head puzzle, a rail sequence, and a boss fight, and each of those segments has their own trophy. So most of the trophies were unlocked simply by playing through the game. The crow skulls and gramophone collectibles were all easy to locate throughout the levels, and I also purchased each new outfit from the Vendor along the way.
10/33: Bomberman - Complete the bomb-bouncing courses in the Mines.
11/33: License to Drive - Complete the minecart-driving section.
12/33: Skull Hobbyist - Find all crow skulls in the Mines.
13/33: Ghostbuster - Defeat the Phantom.
14/33: De-Composer - Solve the musical mushroom puzzle.
15/33: Ghost Rider - Complete the ghost horse sequence.
16/33: Skull Collector - Collect all crow skulls in the Swamp.
17/33: Cruel Tea - Defeat the Witch and the Merchant.
18/33: Whack-a-Mole - Complete the whack-a-mole puzzle.
19/33: Formula Ugh - Beat the guards in the cart race.
20/33: Skull Aficionado - Collect all crow skulls in Skeletown.
21/33: The Bigger They Are... - Defeat Dhor.
22/33: High Flyer - Complete the gargoyle-flying sequence.
23/33: Ain't No Rest For The Wicked - Complete the headstone matching puzzle.
24/33: Skull Fanatic - Collect all crow skulls in the Graveyard.
25/33: Hunger Killer - Defeat Gluttony.
And then a plot twist I did not expect came - the sixth and final level is in the North Pole. At Santa's Workshop.
Yes, Pumpkin Jack has to fight Santa Claus. It's actually incredible.
Completing the North Pole also got me the trophies for finding all the crow skulls, all the gramophones, and purchasing all the Vendor's outfits. My favorite outfit was definitely the Buzzard, it made Pumpkin Jack look so badass.
26/33: The Worst Achievement Possible - Complete the Santa presents puzzle.
27/33: Disk Jockey - Found all of the gramophones in the game.
28/33: You'll Float Too - Reach the end of the vortex.
29/33: Skull Obsessive - Collect all crow skulls in the North Pole.
30/33: You've Got A Problem, Man - Collect all crow skulls in the entire game.
31/33: Full Closet - Purchase all outfits from the Vendor.
And then you had the final boss fight against the Wizard. Now, I'll be honest, all the other bosses were easy to beat - except this one. The Wizard took me over an hour to beat, as his attacks were tricky to dodge. But eventually I got it and got the platinum!
32/33: The Baddest Bad Guy - Defeat the Wizard.
33/33: Official Groupie - Unlock all of the trophies in the game.
This game really did feel like a classic PS1/PS2 era platformer. It was fun, quirky, well-written, and I enjoyed the dark and spooky but ultimately fun atmosphere of all the levels. The only downside I give it is that it is very short. I got this platinum in less than six hours, and one of those hours was spent on the final boss fight. But I still recommend this game!
Rating: 8/10

with otto snoring beside me
dear me,
you've come off a holiday season that stored you right back in that glowy firelit warmth you'd missed out on the past few years. the holidays truly felt like decades, but you lived in them fully and with so much delight. so much more to say, but this isn't about that.
here you are in a home you spent almost half your time in, with two dogpeople that have intertwined along the garden wall with you, three vines growing together more and more each day. what has the year looked like?
jan: grannys birthday! feb: everything everywhere all at once in theaters, julias car needed a stereo so played hookie, march: rain forever, to florida and dc for an east coast extravaganza april: titas birthday in fullerton, lots of outins with jmac, struggling through the last quarter may: finished indoor league <3 , got trapped on coronado, found mold in my closet june: SUMMER SUMMER SUMMER -> met claire, to valle for the first time, to the bay for birthdays and a flight to vancouver + boat to victoria, july: 4th of july at our house, MAGIC CASTLE, beach picnic with a canopy, cristinas birthday and reserving a fire pit at 7 am, and a new year begins with a new staff new admin, new kids. aug: watched barbie, TAYLOR SWIFT, house got painted, prepping our faces off for the europe trip sept: boston on the first day of vacation and then to london!, made one night in paris, and then home early to recover from the chaos, beach picnic and cards, and my car finally kicked the full bucket so welcome to the family rav 4, and the house finally finally got its numbers and a new green door, had a night out at fleet science center with FREE dinner, quieter homes finally giving us ac and windows and locking both me and julia out of the house concurrently, and babysitting of course oct: neighbor's pipe burst, first time surfing! decorating for halloween because we finally had the house back, yves tumor @ observatory, dinner @ amie's, babysitting ollie, creating the great pumpkin for trunk or treat, being cruella deville, and HOZIER!!!!!!!!! nov: billy raffoul w/ amie + steven, jinhui's birthday at din tai fung, TWO FIELD TRIPS (zoo, the grinch), starting mimi and mamie's mixed media martial arts, waffling about staying in sd or home for thanksgiving, home for pia's 21st in sf, camping with jmac in the rain, friendsgiving, driving home at 4am, relic bageri! dec: the whirwind of the winter season and fully embracing the fun at work, decorating the house for the holidays, my birthday at campfire!! , driving home with k, amie, nahla, and jules and spending a day with amie and home. enjoying the holidays with k, visiting carmel, visiting the cabin with furniture for the first time, and home again
in between all this, the sunday shopping trips, the weekend jmac excursions, the lack of a home, the car problems, the growing into yourself. you've felt a settling and a snapping into place of where you fit into this world, a sense of putting the last puzzle piece into the community, the friendships, the relationships, and life in general that you've made for yourself. when a puzzle's done, we break it up and start a new one. it feels like 2024 might be the year where we begin again and i'm scared to let go of the perfect life i have already. i'm scared of the new challenges ahead, of the way things are never quite the same as the days before. i'm scared to because i'm so happy and so loved, and i know life changes. i know i'm in a golden moment. i know life will change and give me more golden moments, but i have worked so hard to climb this mountain and reap these rewards, and i'm having a hard time knowing a new climb will be ahead even though i know that summit will be just as wonderful.
we grow, we change, life changes around us. we try and try again. happy new year, i love you. you can do it.

Happy Reapers (Guidesman, C2)
Chapter Two: Shoulder
C2 on Tumblr: First/Previous - Next
(C1, The Lost Boys)
~~*~~
According to the bits of conversation the Woodsman heard over his shoulder as they walked, it seemed their new companion’s name was ‘Beatrice’.
They were coming now to the end of the trees. Though the damp of the morning still hung in the air, the path led out of the woods entirely, out from beneath the roof of leaves under which he lived out so many of his days.
The Woodsman glanced back at them over his shoulder. The half-early day was bright, and all was cast into a golden haze by the lingering mist. No shadows lurked behind. Or at least, none seemed to.
“Do you… think something’s following us?”
“Hm?” He turned his gaze. Wirt was walking at his right hand, and staring with a puzzled frown. “Why should I think that?”
“I mean, you keep looking back, so I just assumed you…” He tried to gesture an explanation, then gave up. “I-I don’t know. Dumb question.”
“No, questions are only natural in such a strange land.” A sigh. “And… I think nothing has followed us thus far. The wereling is long gone, certainly, and I’ve seen little that could be of any danger since we left the mill.”
“Really? So… why…?”
The Woodsman eyed him, then turned his gaze away. At his left side, out of Wirt’s sight, he set his hand on the lantern, hung on his belt hours ago. “The Unknown has taught me to keep vigil. Though perhaps you would profit from it, I am glad it will not have the chance to teach you.”
“Oh.”
Wirt fell silent, letting the sound of Greg’s chatter and the morning’s hush fill the space. And the Woodsman tried to turn his mind from dark possibilities. Their road had rounded a bend, and was fenced now on both sides. Fields of pumpkins stretched out beyond, their further borders out of sight. They walked in farmland now. Their road was plain. He knew the very dirt beneath his shoes. No need for concern, surely.
His eyes drifted over his shoulder once more.
“AHHHH!”
The Woodsman jumped. His hand sprang to his right side, where he had hung his axe. He spun to face Greg—the source of the scream. The child stared at Beatrice aghast.
“How can you not eat waffles?!”
Suddenly, he screamed even louder.
“What’s happened?” the Woodsman demanded, urgently bewildered as he bent toward the child’s level.
“I stepped on a pumpkin!!”
The Woodsman stopped. His eyes dropped to the ground. Greg’s foot was stuck inside of a small pumpkin. He looked back up, at a loss. But it only took him a moment before he let out a small “Ah.”
That’s right. Children do such things.
“Ha! Look!” Wirt’s triumphant cry caught his ear. He took a last look at Greg, who seemed now perfectly untroubled, and who began clomping along with his pumpkin pegleg. He glanced at Beatrice (who looked just as disoriented as he had been). She seemed to shrug.
The Woodsman, very slightly, did the same. Then he stood straight again, still a little baffled but no longer alarmed. Such a strange boy. He shook his head. I shall have to warn him of crying out without cause. The sound could well draw real dangers, or—
They came to the crest of the hill. And all his wary thoughts hushed at the sight.
Golden fields lay out before them. Autumn freely and wholeheartedly rested on the rolling hills. In the midst of these, the path wove down into a little farming village, its homely houses all together, safely gathered in. Pottsfield.
For a moment, there was nothing behind him at all.
“Civilization!” declared Wirt, throwing his fists in the air (and, he did not realize, shaking his guide from his reverie). “Yes! At long last, our ill-begotten wanderings through this realm of shadows are ended!”
The Woodsman cocked his head, intrigued at the strangely poetic words. The lad had never spoken that way before. And yet, it seemed as easy on his tongue as his everyday speech.
But the young wordsmith wasn’t used to attention for his work. He caught the look and shrank away a little. “Uh… yeah, we-we’re here, so— what the…?”
This last was said because his shrinking produced a squelch. Wirt looked down. Then he scowled. He too had stepped into a pumpkin.
“Ah, great.”
Once they’d removed the involuntary shoe, the four of them (five with Greg’s frog) made their way down the hill toward Pottsfield. Greg kept chatting with Beatrice, who seemed to respond only grudgingly. Wirt eyed their surroundings with curiosity (and kept watch for stray pumpkins).
The Woodsman didn’t look over his shoulder once.

Bee Garden Guiding Questions
Game Concept:
What's the basic premise or story of the game?
Different flowers make different honeys! You are a new beekeeper who wants to unlock the six special honeys. Your journal unlocks and grows as you plant your garden.
What genre is the game? (e.g., platformer, shooter, puzzle)
It is an idle simulation game.
How long should gameplay typically last? (5 minutes, 30 minutes, etc.)
One of the notes about current VR is that the helmet is heavy and can be tiring after long periods of gameplay. 5 to 15 minutes per session.
Game Mechanics:
How will the player interact with the game world?
This game will be playable on PC and in VR. Objects will be clickable. To access the menu or notebook the player will have physical books to reference.
What are the primary objectives?
To plant seeds in flower beds that grow into flowers that the bees will make honey of. To follow the clues or solve the riddle that is telling you how to grow each of the flowers for the six special honeys.
What obstacles/challenges will the player face?
To figure out which flowers grow into the honeys you need and how to grow them.
Any unique mechanics?
Each time you grow a new flower you unlock a page in your journal. When you harvest a flower it will go into a vase that you can look at.
Art Style:
Any particular art style in mind?
Painterly styled 3D.
Any references or inspirations for this style?
Anna Mason watercolor flowers. Garden scrapbooks. Rayman Legends.
Characters & Entities:
How many characters or entities need to be designed?
No other humans. The player is in first person. The swarm of bees maybe. But I think that giving it a personality is a stretch-goal.
Are there any specific details or functionalities associated with these characters or entities?
The bees would be a swarm of bees. This might be interesting to code.
Level Design:
How many levels or stages will there be?
One level. It’s all set in one very limited place.
Any specific themes or environments in mind for these levels?
It takes place in a field with a beehive. There are four plots of land for the player to plant in.
Assets & Tools:
What 3D models, textures, or other assets are planned to be used?
Tree, shelf or table for the honeys, Hive, notebook, bees, jars of honey, cursor, book insides, alert box, skybox, ground, 5 types of flowers: Fireweed, Sage, Tupelo, Blueberry, Pumpkin.
Sound & Music:
Is sound and music already prepared?
No. I might hire a musician, or keep sound and music minimal.
Technical Requirements:
Are there any specific platforms being targeted? (PC, mobile, web)?
PC. But the goal is VR.
Any additional systems in the game? (e.g., leaderboard, achievements)
Not necessary unless it’s good for my portfolio.
Timeline:
2 Months. We'll see how long it takes but I want to be finished before the end of spring.

How do you use map icons in totk cause mine are:
Leaf: foraging area for rare/useful materials (fun fact you can get hearty bass at that low gravity island with the mirror puzzle, the water never refills but the fish still spawn and just around on the floor. It’s part of my “post blood moon rotation” of foraging points and enemy spawns.
Skull: enemy I can’t reliably defeat yet (I finally got all mine off my map! TAJE that silver lynels you fucking suck ass)
Sword: mini boss/tough enemy I can reliably defeat
person looking one: Addison sign or backpack korok to return to later
Crystal tower thing: depths ascend point
Cooking pots: overworld cooking pots in useful locations so I don’t have to rely on portable ones all the time
Hearts: korok puzzles or areas I think are going to be used fir a side quest later
stars: anything else, usually related to whatever I’m working on at that moment
Bonus content: my material grinding routine for every blood moon as a paranoid newbie to this franchise who is not going into the final fight until I’m considerably over prepared.
Immediately go to the Lanayru Promenade and teleport to the O-ogim shrine, ascend up and defeat the three lynels that spawn in a line heading northwest from that point. This is both farming for weapons and fuse parts AND practice with dodging and flurry rushes (it took me a Long Time to figure them out and I’m not going to stop until I can get 5 in a row)
Then I open my map again and teleport to two locations where Gibdo’s spawn (gibdo bones my beloved) generally the underground cemetery then the ancient altar ruins, it’s generally worth putting a travel medallion down in a Gerudo cave of your choice cause desert travel is awful and most of the caves for some reason don’t have shrines
Then I teleport to several sky islands rapidly:
Ga-ahisas shrine in the North Tabantha Sky for aforementioned fish
Josiu shrine in north Necluda sky (then to the island north of it with the pond) for a big radish + everything else those islands grow
And finally the water temple, as it’s my preferred location for farming Construct parts. I like combat in low gravity im a sniper at heart just let me have infinite bullet time
(my current plan for Ganondorf is a full inventory of rocket shields + multi shot bows + gibdo bones. everything else is a backup plan. I hope I don’t need the backup plans cause they’re not very good. One is literally to look up on YouTube how to build an indestructible car and just run him over till he dies)
Then I stop off at Sturnida Springs Cave (north + a little west of Rito Village) aka the crazy mushroom cave. Also a decent place for a travel medallion tbh, it’s fairly far from any travel points.
Then its Hateno to harvest from the school field and set the new crop (I’m usually rotating between endura carrots and hearty radishes) and buy out anything useful at the store, mostly pumpkins. And arrows. I consider anything under 150 to be running low.
If I’m running low in cash I track down a rare stone talus or two, there’s two fairly close to the Gerudo Canyon tower.
Then I spend the remaining time either defeating gloom spawn/boss rematches in the depths/more Lynels depending on what I’m running low on, or farming parts from a dragon (I try to rotate but. It’s usually Dinraal cause she’s my favorite dragon)
And when I inevitably get bored of this I switch to collecting poes in the depths to buy bomb flowers.
And yes. My link does have a severe addiction to speed elixers. That’s none of your business. It gets the job done. Gan won’t know what fucking hit him (it’s bones and bombs. He’s getting hit by bones and bombs)
And anyway I don’t want to do the final boss until I’ve done the majority of things to do in the game, it feels like the finale should be… final, yanno? I’m not gonna find every korok seed or anything but I do want to get all inventory upgrades, get every armor piece and upgrade most of them, do all the side quests, fill my compendium most of the way, etc.
but even then I’m still REALLY close. I’ve got like… three shrines, five quests, 4 wells, and maybe 2 armor pieces left and SURELY more m close to getting all the Addison signs I mean I never slacked on those. I already have plans lined up to get upgrades for the armor pieces I already have (fuck the goddamn star things I just want to upgrade my own damn canonical armor and you want falling stars AND dragon parts? Literally fuck off) so. Im running out of things to do to avoid the ending 😬

October 11, 2023
I had to take last night to watch shows and relax. I am having to take this morning to do my Sunday routine.
I had a great weekend. Ate great food, and spent time with Braeden and his family. I do wish I got to spend more time with my extended family.
We were at B's grandparents and something smelt like my nonna's cooking, which I haven't had since her eye started bugging her and it made me really miss it.
I keep picturing Braden at the wedding. standing with the green field behind him smiling. I think about how I could walk down an aisle to that image and person. I think about how far we have come in 4 months. I never want to forget it's been 4 months. I want to enjoy every moment and not take them for granted. I keep thinking back to our first date. How he caught me off guard and how I felt comfortable with him so quickly. How horny he made me. Our second date was tacos and a movie. I never went home that night. I confessed more than I should have. We woke up that morning went to get brunch on the motorcycle and then went for a walk and kept talking about what I confessed. Our third date was a plant nursery, Japanese food, and an impromptu backyard cider picnic. After that, everything starts blurring. Our texting conversation and phone calls filled every gap when we didn't see one another and everything just flows. We talk everyday and we still learn about one another. I try and talk to him about things that make me uncomfortable, I always want to learn more about him.
I keep thinking back to the ex in August. We talked about where we were at dinner, which was exciting. Then when it was game time, I felt weird, I wanted to play my own games and the one game I wanted to play we walked away from because the girl running it was rude. I remember being in the ferris wheel and he was rocking it to try and get a reaction out of me. I remember leaving feeling slightly confused. I knew I liked him, but was what I was feeling something that I was only feeling because of the past. I couldn't help but compare it to the last. I was trying so hard not to follow the same trajectory but at the same time was pushing it that way. I don't know how I got over that day, but my feelings kept growing and he surprised me with the stuffy I wanted from the game I wanted to play. Avo. It made me realize that I don't need to rush and I don't need everything now. We will figure it out in the end. That gesture meant so much to me and I wouldn't have got to experience that if I made a big deal about playing a stupid game.
I need to take a step back sometimes and really ask myself why I want the things I want and if I would be okay with missing it. I am having this debate with the pumpkin patch. Were supposed to go Saturday morning. It's now supposed to rain. I did originally have a rain date, but planned B's bday stuff that day, plus I have an eye appointment in the AM. I am trying to be calm and know we will figure it out. It is something we have done every year and I love a good tradition. I also need to think will I be truly upset if we don't go? No, I will be a little disappointed, but what can we do instead? Can we change the tradition so maybe next year we continue it, but add something we do this year? I really hope the weather will clear up, but if we need to problem-solve together, we will.
Before I go get ready for work - which maybe I should touch on too.
I just want to say I really do like his family. They have welcomed me with open arms and I appreciate it so much. I love that he's family-oriented, and I think that was a big piece of the puzzle that was missing in the past. As much as I bitch and complain about my family, I am used to always being around family and I want to build my own family with someone who has similar values to mine.
On Monday, when we were driving back from his grandparents we were talking about family and siblings and what we would do differently if we were in our parent's shoes. We had a really good conversation about it. He said "I feel like were on the same page" and it really made me realize how in line we really are.
There was a lot of talk about ex's this weekend. There were times when maybe I should have let the conversation die, but I just wanted to establish things. We all have a past and that's okay. I just want to learn and understand.
On another note, work feels like a shit show. I really want to find a way to alter my thought process on it so enjoy it right now. All I feel is pressure and like I don't fit in.

I once had an instructor who always gave us verbal puzzles which were simple but we never figured them out until we heard the solution. As a parting gift we got him a puzzle similar to this which was a pumpkin patch, a field of orange, and each piece was the exact same size

learning new things
an: i thought of kita a lot today so i decided to write this hehe
pairings: timeskip!kita x fem!reader
warnings: husband kita, food mentions, kita is the sweetest ever, lots of pet names, mentions of knives and knife usage, lowercase intentional
-
kita would do anything for you.
which is why this spring, right after the two of you moved into the farmhouse, he spent weeks researching pumpkins and how to grow them. figuring out the perfect soil. how to space the seeds, how much water and sun they needed, and of course how many to get. he settled on four plants to be safe in case he lost a couple.
now it's october and the two of you are a little overwhelmed.
"74 exactly," kita says, more to himself as enters the house for dinner.
"74 what, shin?" you mumble as you set the final dishes on the table. dusting your hands off on your apron before you take it off, you move quickly to beat your husband to the sink.
"first again," he gloats, grinning ear to ear.
"you were closer to the sink!" you playfully slap his arm. "anyway, what did you count earlier?"
his hand reaches to the towel next to him, picking it up to dry his hands. he watches you wave your wet hands around in an attempt to dry them off. he smirks before using the towel to smack your butt as you walk to your seat.
"shin!"
"74 pumpkins, darlin'," he chuckles, sitting down for dinner. "we are swimming in ‘em out there," he tilts his drinking glass towards the back of the house.
"i can't believe we have that many! i only thought we would get a few. we should sell them out front!"
he shakes his head. "that's kinda silly, ain't it? we don't need any money for 'em."
you hum, moving the food around your plate with your fork. "what do you think we should do with them then? i only wanted a few to decorate the front, maybe a couple to carve, oooh and a couple for baking," you think aloud. kita smiles at your dreaming. one of his favorite things about you is how passionate you are about the little things.
"i could always message my friends. i'm sure they would want some, if that's okay with you."
"of course it is shin. i wouldn't mind at all," you hold his hand in his. with a soft squeeze, kita places a kiss to your knuckles.
"halloween is a couple weeks away, i can't believe it. are you excited?"
he chuckles as he glances at the calendar that hangs in the kitchen. "look at that. and sure! are you excited?"
you give him a puzzled look, which he returns. "do you not like halloween?"
he raises his hands up. "it's not that i don't like it, sweets. i just didn't do a whole lot for it growin' up, 'sall."
the sound of your hands hitting the table grabs his attention immediately. "then it's settled!"
"what's settled?"
"we are gonna do all things halloween so that you can experience it! making up for lost time, or something like that. how does that sound?"
kita can't say no to you.
"it sounds great, baby."
the next evening, before dinner, you walk out to the fields to find you probably very hungry husband. the walk is beautiful. the final hours of sunlight warm up the air, the trees are beautiful and vibrant, and most of the flowers you and kita planted this summer are shedding their final petals. as you step towards the garden, you spot him. hunched over some mounds of potatoes, digging through with his bare hands to grab the best ones.
"you know," you step through the gate and grab the pair of gardening gloves that hang on the fence. "you really should wear these."
kita turns around, absolutely elated. he is so happy to see you, even if it's been only a few minutes. "now why would i do that? my hands work just find, baby."
you look across the garden and let out a quick gasp. he really wasn't kidding about the pumpkins. reading your mind, he stands up with a hum.
"let me grab the wheelbarrow and i'll meetchya over by the pumpkins, pumpkin." he throws you a wink and blush, and blow him a kiss. as soon as you reach the sea of orange at your feet, you begin searching for the best ones.
"so how do we know what would be best, miss halloween expert?" he muses as he arrives at your side. you lift up some of the large leaves to get a better look.
"well, i want a bunch to decorate the front porch with, but i can get those a different day. for carving," you bend down and point to two quite rotund pumpkins resting right next to each other. "these two are great."
"whatever ya think is best, darlin'," kita bends down and with his small pocket knife, cuts the pumpkins free from their vines. after placing both of them in the wheelbarrow, he dusts his hands off on his pants.
"shall we walk back home? everything else is about finished, just need'a grab those potatoes i picked earlier and we can head back,"
you nod, pulling the pumpkins behind you. the two of you walk home in silence, listening to the breeze ruffle the leaves and the gravel crunching under your feet.
"hey, i love ya," kita smiles at you as the two of you reach the house. giving him a soft kiss on the lips, you return his smile.
"i love you too, farmer. come on, let's make some dinner. i'm starving,"
he laughs and pokes your side. "from all that harvesting, i'll bet."
after dinner, the two of you make quick work cleaning up the dishes and counters. while kita finishes drying the last couple plates, you dig through one of your closets for an old tablecloth. you cover the kitchen table with it and smile. the table is kita's granny's table, gifted to you when the two of you got married. you set the pumpkins down and wipe them off.
"shin, will you please grab a couple knives before you leave the kitchen?"
"of course, my love," he calls back. you scroll through your phone, trying to decide on what design to do on yours.
"boo!"
"shin!" you squeal, whipping around to see a very amused kita as he sets the knife on the table. "you scared me!"
"isn't that what halloween is all about? i'm just gettin' ya in the spirit," he laughs. "so, where do we start?"
you can't help but join his laughter. "well, before you came along i was looking at some designs to do for my pumpkin. do you know what you want to do?" he hums and walks behind you, wrapping his arms around you and places his head on your shoulder. he points at a photo on your screen.
"that one," he nods. you tap the photo, making it larger. the photo is a rather large pumpkin with an equally large heart carved out of the front.
"you want to do a heart on yours, shin?" he nods again, walking towards his pumpkin. "yeah, because i love ya so much."
after all this time, his comments and compliments still make you blush. every single time.
"i love you too. now," you grab your pumpkin and with your finger, trace a line around the stem. "we cut the top off and scoop out the insides. then we can start carving," kita raises a brow.
"what do we do with the inside?" you shrug and nod toward the trash bin you brought next to the table. "throw it away, i guess."
"seems like a waste, don'tchya think? i don't wanna waste it if we can use it," he thinks.
"we could always bake the seeds! i used to do that growing up. we would have them as a snack after we finished." kita smiles at that.
"i like that idea much more, my love. now, let's jump in!"
the two of you make quick work of cleaning out your pumpkins, setting the insides on the tablecloth for later. you grab a marker and begin to draw a design on the front of yours. as you draw, kita hums a familiar song to himself. after drawing your design, you grab the knife to start carving.
"a kitty? that's so cute babe," he says from behind his pumpkin. "don't look at mine! i want it to be a surprise!"
"okay shin, i won't look. i may need your help though at some points," too focused on his design, he gives you a thumbs up before continuing his work.
you finish quickly and grab one of the fake candles to place inside. turning it on, you clap as you see your design come to life.
"it looks so good! i can't wait to see how they look outside," you cheer, stepping back so you can snap a quick picture. "almost done, babe?"
kita steps back with the biggest and proudest smile on his face. "just finished! but wait, i don't want ya to see it until we put them outside," he chuckles as he turns you away from his pumpkin.
"fine, fine. i will put mine on the steps," you giggle and carry your pumpkin to the door.
you set it on the step outside and walk back a little to get a better view.
"okay, i'm coming! close yer eyes and i'll tell ya when ya can open," he calls from the doorway. you cover your eyes and hear him shuffle, before he stands at your side. "okay, take a look and tell me what ya think."
on the the other side of the step is kita's pumpkin. he carved a heart, and above it he carved your initials. you gasp.
"shin! it's so perfect. our initials? i love it! you did so great," you squeal. he picks you up and spins you around before carrying back towards the door.
"now everyone that drives by can see how much i love my amazing wife," he beams and pulls you in for a kiss. when you pull away, you give him a kiss on each cheek.
"i think it's perfect," you say over your shoulder as you lead the two of you back inside. kita locks up behind you before walking into the kitchen to fill up the tea kettle.
"what's next up on our halloween to-do list, sweetheart?"
"baking these pumpkin seeds, of course," you start and kita nods. "next, we should pick out our costumes!"
"i think that's a great idea. what do ya wanna dress me up as?"
you laugh. "how about peter pan? i think you would look perfect in some green tights, don't you?" you tease.
kita just laughs and gives you a kiss on the forehead.
"whatever makes ya happy, darlin'."

This!! I quite often end up wandering into the academic papers of fields quite different than anything I've studied - theoretical physics was a recent one, linguistics before that - or into areas within the broad fields I know well (theology and history) that are so specific that I'm essentially a newcomer.
The thing is, it takes me a long time to work through these texts because I have to look up a lot of the words, but the actual formation of the sentences and the setting out of their points is never the problem. It's a vocabulary issue, and a context issue. If I add some words to my vocabulary and work on getting a bit more context, the meaning usually starts to shift into view.
The exception is actually badly written work - but that's true even in fields that I absolutely understand and know and am trained in! A looping, circuitous sentence structure or a waffling, repetitive style is what stops me understanding the content - not the words themselves.
If you come across something you don't understand, treat yourself to a little puzzle. Find out what you need to do to unlock the meaning. Consider it a little extra pumpkin around your hamburger meat.
I hate those posts that are like "if you as a layperson can't understand every single thing in an academic paper immediately it's badly written and stupid." babygirl that's just what academic papers are like
