Just reminded of this, running across some interesting observations on Twitter about trying to get around Amsterdam with a wheelchair.

Quite a bit of discussion there, and on another linked thread from the OP prompted by one witnessed incident where a scooter user was refused boarding on a tram.

Some very similar conclusions about the setup there, unfortunately:

This seems to be too common a pattern, unfortunately. Disabled people DO NOT have to be an afterthought in planning.

”walkable cities is ableist” has to be a psy-op. you can’t be this bad at understanding what the term means.

So i'm working on a project that involves looking at people's opinions on public transportation, and something that keeps coming up is that a lot of people like the idea of public transportation but ridership is at the same time low, so I wanna figure out what stops people from riding.

In celebration of steamboat Willie coming into public domain, I made some totally original characters: Will and Petey!

Will is the captain of the S.S WILLIE (he named it after himself)! He’s pretty infamous for being petty, grumpy, and generally rude to almost everyone that he meets. He also has barely any social whatsoever, other than talking to his brother.

Petey on the other hand is the newest (and only other) crew mate! He loves his job and takes it very seriously, so much so that it usually gets him into a bunch of trouble (and Will has to get him out of it)

What kinda trouble you may ask?

Oh, you know… just your usual.

Redundancy in Transit

Redundancy is a key element to good transit design, always make sure that there are multiple ways to get between locations in a city. if there is only one way to get between two locations, then there is an exponentially higher number of points of failure on a system and it is harder to get between locations as there are fewer options, overallit makes transit less appealing as a method to move about in a city. This is why things like ring lines are so important to the design of transit systems. The lack of redundancy and interconnectivity in our transit systems is why American transit systems lag behind European and East Asian Cities in terms of ridership
