Also delaying an irreversable change is the explicit purpose of puberty blockers. Cut and dry. If your argument is against making decisions that will cause irreversable changes to your body, then congradulations! That's what puberty blockers DO. They explictly are not HRT. They buy a gender questioning child time to make a decision before their body makes it for them.

I know those four or two or five years may seem like an eternity to you, but they're really not. Is that really so dreadful?

The fact that leagues of smart and rational trans adults who are informed about the evidence base for puberty blockers wish they could’ve taken them in their youth seems to me pretty darn conclusive evidence that the balance of risk and benefit is favourable.

Every dipshit online who claims that they would never let their child start poverty blockers because of the "long term effects" and "they are too young to be making these decisions" does not actually understand puberty blockers and is just trying to pretend that their child is not trans and is just "going through a phase"

Puberty blockers do what they say on the tin, block puberty. It just gets put on pause while you figure our who you are as a person. You can always decide to go through your agab puberty later, thats what they are there for. If it is actually a phase, puberty blockers will be fine

Hell, even HRT is almost functionally reversible, the biggest thing that is not reversible on testosterone is the deepening of the voice

And, yes, I will acknowledge that there may be some adverse long term side affects of puberty blockers, but that's no different than literally any other physical treatment. And because it's something performed in children, the most dire issues (like bone density) are going to be monitored. Idk about you, but I'd rather have a short child with kinda shitty bones than a suicidal kid who refuses to tell me anything. But maybe that's just me

Another note is that puberty blockers aren't just handed out like candy. Your kid has to be openly trans for a while and actively seeking out transitioning for any doctor to consider giving it as an option

Like no, parents helping their teens transition are being FORCED BY BIG SCARY LIBERAL GROUPS to give their kids DANGEROUSLY MEDICATIONS as some big pharma capitalist scheme.

Like it shows a fundamental misunderstanding in not only the trans experience but also what transitioning even entails.

One, many, and I mean Many, liberal spaces only really pay lip service to trans support. Being as vague as just saying they support the LGBT community, while not actually caring about the T. Liberals generally see respecting trans folks as just "playing their game" and they only care about the aesthetics of support.

Two, who the fuck has actually seen any parent of a transgender teen be pressured To let their children transition?? The reality I've experienced and have had friends live out has been, either their families are shamed and called out to be abusers or sex offenders (yeah that happens) because they helped their kids OR they just don't. Most parents in my lived experience dont fucking care. They'll ignore their kid's feelings and desires, shame them for it, or pretend it's a phase.

Three, "Dangerous Medications" just generally highlights the lack of understanding at hand here. Puberty blockers basically do what is said on the tin, they prevent the progression of puberty by blocking the release of androgens, the hormones responsible for the onset of puberty. Once off of these hormones, puberty progresses. It's completely reversible and there hasn't been any statistically significant dangers associated with it. It just keeps the body in a prepubescent state, not necessarily the most dangerous thing in the world. You wouldn't say people who are late bloomers have a dangerous medical condition.

Lastly, four, if the BIG PHARMA wanted to make the maximum amount of money off of transgender people they would lobby for doctors to lower the barrier for entry for HRT. Because as is the barrier is still pretty god damn high for any gender nonconforming trans person and I promise, there are way more gnc trans people than trans teens
