Because I had headcanon that Color is Autistic and has developed special interests in things such as photography, travel, maybe even things like social advocacy.
Maybe even philosophy and psychology. For now, in this posts, I’ll focus on the big two: photography and traveling. (I will also touch on how Color’s physical disability, chronic fatigue, his autism, and perhaps his ptsd/ separation anxiety from Killer also effect his ability to engage in his interests in another post.)
I think he’d develop some decent if not above average technical knowledge, such as camera types and functions. Detailed understanding of different types of cameras (DSLR, mirrorless, point-and-shoot, medium format, etc.) and their specific functions.
Knowledge about various lenses (prime, zoom, wide-angle, telephoto, macro) and their applications. Mastery of camera settings like ISO, aperture, shutter speed, and how to manipulate them for different lighting conditions and artistic effects.
In-depth understanding of how aperture, shutter speed, and ISO interact to create a properly exposed photograph. Proficiency in using software like Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, or other photo editing tools for post-processing and enhancing images.
He’d learn about artistic elements such as composition techniques, lighten and color theory. Develop a familiarity with compositional rules like the rule of thirds, leading lines, framing, symmetry, and how to creatively break these rules.
Knowledge about natural and artificial lighting, how to use light to create mood and depth, and techniques like backlighting, side lighting, and using reflectors. Understanding of how colors interact, complementary colors, and how to use color to convey emotion and direct viewer attention.
Awareness of different photography styles (portrait, landscape, macro, street, documentary, astrophotography, etc.) and genres, and what makes each unique.
Knowledge about influential photographers and their work, such as Ansel Adams, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Annie Leibovitz, and contemporary photographers.
Understanding the evolution of photography, from daguerreotypes to digital photography, and significant milestones in the field. Awareness of current trends in photography, popular styles, and emerging technologies.
And, of course, he’d develop and grow practical experiences and hands on practice. Experience with on-location shoots, managing different weather conditions, and adapting to various shooting environments.
Knowledge about how to properly maintain and clean camera equipment to ensure longevity and optimal performance. Skills in troubleshooting common issues like lens flare, sensor dust, or focus problems.
He’d have a deep enthusiasm for specific techniques or subjects he enjoys photographing, whichever or whatever you all think those could be exactly.
Likely to have personal photography projects, well-organized portfolios, and possibly an online presence showcasing their work. Extensive collection of books, articles, videos, and tutorials related to photography.
A special interest in traveling, in addition to photography, would manifest in the character in several ways, showcasing their passion and extensive knowledge about various aspects of travel. Here are some specific aspects:
For his interest in travel, he’d be very well versed in the planning and research process. Color might create comprehensive travel itineraries, meticulously planning each day's activities, routes, and schedules.
He might gradually develop an extensive knowledge about various travel destinations, including historical sites, natural landmarks, cultural attractions, and lesser-known gems.
He’d display a proficiency in booking flights, accommodations, and transportation, as well as understanding visa requirements, travel insurance, and local regulations.
An expertise in packing efficiently, knowing what to bring for different climates and activities, and how to pack photography gear safely for travel. Color is likely to show a very deep and profound appreciation for different cultures, learning basic phrases or even fluency in multiple languages to better communicate while traveling.
He’d definitely show a deep interest in trying and understanding local cuisines, knowing popular dishes, and even recipes from various regions. He’d have at least some knowledge about local customs, traditions, festivals, and etiquette to respect and immerse themselves in different cultures.
He’d certainly develop some geographical and historical knowledge, with a detailed understanding of world geography, maps, and the ability to navigate using traditional maps as well as digital tools.
Knowledge about the history of the places he visits, including significant events, historical figures, and the cultural evolution of the region.
He might maintain detailed travel logs or journals documenting his experiences, including photos, notes, and personal reflections. He’d definitely collect souvenirs, postcards, or other memorabilia from his travels; often gifting them to beloved friends.
He’d probably engage with travel communities, forums, and social media groups to share experiences and gain insights.
This special interest would possibly lead to him gaining a lot of practical skills, such as in budget management. Expertise in budgeting for travel, finding deals, and managing expenses effectively.
He might display an ability to adapt to different environments, handle unexpected situations, and problem-solve while on the go.
Although it’d probably be harder for him than most, particularly if he has a harder time handling and dealing with change—especially if the change is unexpected and unplanned.
Knowledge about staying healthy while traveling, such as understanding local healthcare options, vaccinations, and travel safety tips.
He’d like combine both interests by using his photography skills to capture stunning images of the places he visits, creating travel blogs or photo albums to document his journeys.
He might create photo essays or visual stories that capture the essence of the cultures and places he explores. Share his travel experiences and recommendations with others, possibly through writing travel guides, blogs, or social media content.
All this is to say that Killer would definitely encourage Color to come with him to explore abandoned places and ghost towns, and Color’s going to be so overjoyed he starts hand flapping. He’s going to take so many pictures, he’s going to remember it forever.

What happens when there's a conjunction of Saturn and the Moon in the twelfth house?
When Saturn and the Moon are in conjunction in the twelfth house of a birth chart, it can create a complex blend of energies that may influence various aspects of the individual's life. Here are some potential effects of this conjunction:
Emotional Challenges: The Moon represents emotions, instincts, and the subconscious mind, while Saturn symbolizes restriction, discipline, and responsibility. When these two planets come together, there can be a struggle between emotional needs and practical concerns. The individual may feel emotionally burdened or restricted, leading to feelings of sadness, loneliness, or depression.
Isolation and Withdrawal: The twelfth house is associated with isolation, seclusion, and hidden enemies. With Saturn and the Moon in conjunction here, the individual may prefer solitude or feel compelled to withdraw from social interactions. There may be a tendency to keep emotions and vulnerabilities hidden from others, leading to a sense of isolation or alienation.
Deep Psychological Insights: On a positive note, this conjunction can also indicate a deep awareness of one's own subconscious patterns and psychological issues. The individual may have a profound understanding of their fears, insecurities, and past traumas, which can lead to personal growth and transformation through introspection and self-reflection.
Spiritual Potential: The twelfth house is also associated with spirituality, meditation, and enlightenment. Saturn's influence here can bring discipline and structure to spiritual practices, while the Moon's intuitive nature can enhance psychic abilities and intuition. The individual may be drawn to esoteric or mystical knowledge and may find solace in spiritual pursuits.
Sleep and Dreams: The twelfth house is related to sleep, dreams, and the subconscious mind. With Saturn and the Moon in conjunction here, the individual may experience disturbances in sleep patterns or vivid dreams that reflect their inner emotional struggles and fears. However, disciplined practices such as meditation or dream analysis may help in managing these challenges.
Overall, the conjunction of Saturn and Moon in the twelfth house suggests a period of introspection, emotional processing and spiritual growth. Although it is possible to overcome challenges, there is also the potential for deeper insight, transformation, and inner peace through self-awareness and spiritual practices. As always, the interpretation of this combination will depend on the specific dynamics of the birth chart and the life circumstances of the individual. Aston Villa help organise a regular charter flight from Birmingham to Spain whenever Unai Emery wants to take a trip home.
Emery books and pays for it himself and often goes during an international break, allowing a couple of days of rest and an opportunity to refresh.
Yet, four days after Villa’s 2-0 defeat at Anfield, a fourth consecutive loss, Emery was pictured at Bodymoor Heath, clipboard in hand, alongside the players who had not gone away with national teams, back in training.
Sources — who spoke on the condition of anonymity, like all in this article, to protect relationships — describe the work undertaken over the last 10 days as “huge”. Emery is resolved to arrest the acute decline in form, having entered uncharted territory himself after losing four straight matches for the first time in his 1,026-game managerial career, according to Opta.
Although training has been regarded as positive, the biggest focus and effort has been the sheer volume of analysis. Coaching staff believe that in parts of the losing run, Villa have been on the right track at certain points — aside from the 1-0 loss to Club Brugge, arguably the nadir of Emery’s tenure — but lost the smaller, key details. The Liverpool game served as a case in point; Villa restricted their opponents to little in open play but were punished ruthlessly on transition, from their corners in the 2-0 loss.
To underline the attention to detail, Villa have two staff members focusing solely on defensive and attacking set plays — Austin MacPhee works in tandem with set-piece analyst Jose Rodriguez Calvo, who compiles dossiers of opponents’ dead-ball approach.
Emery’s work ethic is renowned. His commitment, doing 12-hour days (and sometimes longer), has delighted internal staff and members of the dressing room, who have recognised the improvements made during his two-year tenure.
Meetings are typically long and results had been vindicating his methods. His lengthy presentations are partly designed to test players’ concentration but there remains total buy-in. Since Emery’s arrival, recruits must be viewed as psychologically robust to cope with Emery’s intensity.
“We don’t have to do meetings because we are together all day,” Monchi, president of football operations, told Movistar. “We meet for breakfast, for lunch, we live here, we are here all day, we spend 12 or 13 hours practically together.”
The Villa manager does his own analysis on top of the work his six analysts do in preparation for games, before then comparing notes. Often, he will watch footage of upcoming opposition on the treadmill or static bike, using software to clip analysis footage together. He ensures he prepares in the most granular detail possible.
Last season, one source joked how Emery would work past 8pm on Fridays, which would eat into his staff’s weekend plans.
“He is just so driven,” said midfielder John McGinn after Villa’s 2-0 win against Bologna last month. “I have never met anyone like him. He has a few times, he was an OK footballer but he wishes he had the determination and work rate he has as a manager. No one can question what he puts in, the effort — everything that comes his way and our way is on the back of hard work. You feed off your leader. He is our leader and we feed off that.”
Emery and his coaching staff’s diligence has been doubled down upon over the international break. Sources insist Villa have worked “harder than ever” to overturn their form.
Rectifying the finer details in matches has been among the key points of consideration, especially given Villa’s intense fixture schedule — they will play eight games in 28 days.
Villa’s ‘triangle of power’, comprising Emery, Monchi and director of football Damian Vidagany, lead all footballing decisions. The power structure is in charge of recruitment, squad building, long-term aspirations and general direction.
The roles of Monchi and Vidagany, as Emery’s closest confidantes, are to regulate the environment around the manager, enabling him to maintain his focus, specifically, towards on-field matters. The pair look to provide a robust footballing structure for Emery, one strong enough to withstand downturns in form and quickly rectify shortcomings.
“It’s about keeping us close to success, that we don’t go back to the Aston Villa that was in the middle of the table looking down, even in the Championship,” Monchi told Movistar.
Those close to Emery draw comparisons between Villa’s setup and how Manchester City have built a team around a figurehead coach. On the rare occasions City experience setbacks, there has been a support network behind Pep Guardiola to find swift resolutions. In some ways, it is fitting that City and Villa are coming out of the international break having suffered four successive defeats for the first time in their managers’ tenures.
“We can create strong structures so that the Champions League is not too far above us, but that we are very much on a par,” Emery told Movistar.
“The Premier League has 20 of the best 50 managers in the world,” Vidagany said to The Athletic in an interview in 2023. “Unai is close to the top level that marks Guardiola. It’s a matter of time to get there for him. I’ve never seen anyone in my life work as hard as him. This is leadership. He also has a good heart.”
Vidagany has repeatedly explained how a robust upward structure tends to elicit success on the pitch and to go from a “medium club to a great club again”. Villa now have a Spanish-speaking contingent running to more than two dozen, all people Emery wanted and knew he could trust.
“It’s the only place where I feel it’s a project, but I can never forget the results,” said Emery to Movistar. “Everything has gone very well. Some teams are stronger than us, but we want to compete and try to consolidate this project with sustained growth so that we can compete in Europe. If it is in the Champions League, all the better. Aston Villa can recover the greatness of its history.”
“You can see the fever for Aston Villa in the school playgrounds,” added Vidagany. “You walk down the street and you can see the enthusiasm. We are talking about one of the six English teams to have won the European Cup and it was too long without Aston Villa being a source of pride. I think people are proud now.”
Villa’s regeneration under Emery has elevated expectations, to the point where the recent run of results is deeply incongruous. Emery’s hard work has provided the foundations for their raised expectation levels. The international break has allowed him to reiterate those characteristics. He will be hoping those long hours pay off against Crystal Palace at Villa Park on Saturday.

Almost 18 million people have Long COVID. Here’s how to make your work more inclusive - Published Sept 23, 2024
BY Ludmila Praslova
Supporting inclusion for workers with Long COVID requires rethinking many long-standing practices. But it can—and must—be done.
We often talk about the impact of COVID-19 on workplaces during the height of the pandemic as if that impact is over. But it is far from over. In the U.S. alone, nearly 18 million people are grappling with Long COVID, and 65% of them are working, even if some had to make adjustments to hours and tasks.
The impact on individual lives, the workforce, and the economy is tremendous, and we have to keep learning to deal with it. Just as many organizations learned during quarantine that much more flexibility in the workplace is possible than previously thought, many will learn that much kinder and more inclusive cultures are possible. And organizations will also learn that flexibility and inclusion are not just possible, but profitable.
Long COVID is a Full-Person Condition Long COVID can impact the whole person, with symptoms ranging from mobility problems (due to muscle weakness, dizziness, and shortness of breath) to depression, anxiety, and difficulty focusing. It is associated with grief and reevaluation of life’s values and priorities.
While fatigue, cardiac, and respiratory issues often come to mind when thinking of Long COVID, its neurological and psychological effects are just as profound. This makes Long COVID both a chronic illness and a form of acquired neurodivergence—a significant difference in neurobiological functioning. Thus, models developed for neuroinclusion at work are just as relevant as an understanding of physical disability.
Supporting workers with Long COVID requires rethinking many long-standing practices—critically, the way organizations view disability inclusion, and the way organizations view employees, period. It requires understanding and including people much more holistically.
Inclusion > Accessibility > Accommodations In many workplaces, disability inclusion is equated with accessibility and accommodations. However, neither specific accommodations (e.g., providing an employee with limited dexterity speech-to-text software) nor accessibility (e.g., ensuring that buildings have ramps to support wheelchair users, but also many others) guarantee inclusion. Coworkers may still make rude comments about those who need accommodation, and managers may still assign them tasks well below their qualifications and exclude them from promotion considerations. Inclusion requires that there is no discrimination or unfair barriers. Inclusive systems support all.
Many specific accommodations for employees with Long COVID are listed in this article I coauthored with Katie Bach and Beth Pollack. But to go beyond accommodations, organizations must build systems for holistic inclusion that support a whole person, body and mind, as outlined in my book, The Canary Code: A Guide to Neurodiversity, Dignity, and Intersectional Belonging at Work. This holistic inclusion acknowledges the complexity of Long COVID and honors the complexity of human beings.
Social Inclusion: Opt-In, Opt-Out, no-Judgement Culture Most of us have suffered through “mandatory fun” events in the workplace. The happy hour where some smile through exhaustion while others worry about their kids. The team-building retreat that leaves introverts socially drained and people with back problems in pain. For people with Long COVID, these aren’t just annoyances. They’re barriers to employment. The extra energy simply is not available.
True social inclusion is an opt-in, opt-out culture for social events. Want to engage? Great, we will make sure that events are accessible. Need to conserve your energy? No judgment. Virtual options? Sure. Sometimes inclusion is less about participation and more about permission to not participate. When we empower workers to choose how they engage, without judgment or “consequences,” we build true social inclusion that benefits everyone.
Cognitive Inclusion: Less Hustle, More Flow Long COVID often causes cognitive difficulties—brain fog, memory glitches, and a struggle to multitask which, like many Long COVID symptoms, can come and go, and be exacerbated by stress. Of course, Long COVID is much more than “just stress.” And yet, some degree of cognitive struggle, even if less extreme, can also stem from the work culture overly fixated on the hustle, along with a rigid, “one-size-fits-all” model of working.
This means organizations have an opportunity to improve the cognitive environment by focusing on better work organization. Here are two crucial ways to do this:
Less Hustle, More Flow: Fixing the hustle-and-juggle pressure and overload will help everyone, including those with Long COVID, other conditions, or stressful life situations. It is also likely to help productivity. Studies show that multitasking does not work, so why not get rid of it? Evidence-based work organization calls for focused rather than fragmented time—single-tasking helps people experience flow and have more done. True productivity calls for less frenzy and stress. Flexible Work Patterns: We all have different patterns of best performance. Some work best in short, Pomodoro-type segments with frequent short breaks. Others need longer stretches of focused work time with longer breaks. Slicing everyone’s time in one-hour segments does not serve anyone’s productivity. Cognitive inclusion in work organization calls for limiting meetings to specific days and times to reserve significant periods of time for employees to work with their best productivity rhythms. While beneficial for all, this can be crucial for those with Long COVID who may need extra flexibility to work with limited and fluctuating energy. Cognitive inclusion supports productivity, but to take full advantage of it, an organization may need to refocus performance evaluation more on the outcomes of work, rather than focusing on hours spent working or “being seen.” That’s one of the key principles of neuroinclusion.
Emotional Inclusion: Human First Depression, anxiety, and grief often accompany Long COVID, and sadly, many employers have traditionally dealt with emotion by telling employees to “leave it at home.” Many organizational cultures have narrow, prescriptive norms of “professional = not emotional” while others expect the emotional labor of “faking happy.”
That lack of emotional inclusion—cultural support for emotional authenticity—can make even healthy employees sick, and it’s an energy drain that those with Long COVID and many other disabled, chronically ill, and neurodivergent people can’t afford.
Normalizing a broader range of authentic emotional expression, from happiness to sadness, supports individuals and groups in truly dealing with difficult situations and building collective resilience through inclusive practice. An environment where saying, “I’m not okay today” is met with empathy, not eye rolls, relieves the pressure and allows people to process emotion in a healthy way, while suppression can make negative emotions intensify.
Emotional inclusion is not about cheesy wellness posters or even “employee assistance programs.” It is about a culture of normalizing well-being check-ins, mental health days without guilt, emotional inclusion training for all managers, and shifting a perspective on employees from “workers” to “humans who work.” And humans have feelings.
Physical/Sensory Inclusion: Redefining the Workspace Long COVID throws physical and sensory curveballs that aren’t immediately obvious to observers, but significant. Sensory sensitivities leading to an overload in reaction to bright lights or loud noises can derail an employee’s entire day. While mobility issues may not be apparent, dizziness, pain, and crushing fatigue can make the trip to the printer feel like a marathon, and navigating two steps with no railing life-threatening.
We need to design workplaces for an expanded definition of accessibility. A ramp in the back of the building is not cutting it. Organizations should involve disabled and neurodivergent employees in an accessibility audit and make sure to heed their input. Easy-open doors, easy-access elevators, adjustable lighting, sound control, and ergonomic workspaces aren’t luxuries; they’re essentials. Disability is not rare or limited to specific populations. Someone sneezing on a plane, a bug bite, or a sports accident can make anyone need accessibility at any time.
And, yes, remote work is an important part of making work accessible. For many employees managing physical symptoms of Long COVID, the option to work fully or mostly from home can be the difference between having a productive career or not being able to work at all. It also goes a long way in preventing the risk of reinfection—a survival essential for many with Long COVID, and a great benefit to all.
Supporting employees with Long COVID with remote work and other forms of flexibility helps create a more positive work environment overall, as illustrated by a French sports retailer, Decathlon France. Decathlon France also expanded its efforts to support holistic inclusion by helping educate employees and the society at large about the physical and psychological effects of Long COVID and to promote inclusion in all areas of life.
This approach had direct positive effects on employees. As Mylène Rahel Damamme, Decathlon’s ESG & Sustainability Reporting Director, shared: “The flexibility of teleworking/remote work, combined with the possibility of working from home on days when my symptoms are more severe, has enabled me to reconcile my health with my professional responsibilities. This approach, supported by my company’s diversity and inclusion policy, enables me to continue and not give up my professional plans and desires!”
Long COVID has altered many human lives. Organizations may ignore this reality, or they may create environments that are more inclusive of Long COVID and other chronic illnesses, while being more inclusive and kinder to all.

Indigencies
My father grew up dirt-poor in a village in India. My grandmother valued education, and with her prompting, he managed to get an engineering degree and an educated wife, coming to the United States.
Alternatively: my mother’s mother was the most hardworking woman in the world, running multiple businesses, doing the housework, and raising her children. As a high schooler, she held an (unsuccessful) hunger strike to promote her right to an education. She passed on that determination to her daughter. Between my mother’s ludicrous work ethic and terrifying ambition, she found a husband with her goals and gained a medical degree in two countries, settling in the United States.
Either way, my mother and father, through luck and hard work, came here with the skills to better this great country. My mother maintained throughout my childhood that there was nowhere to gain success like the US. She worked at a hospital until the administrators determined that an endocrinologist wasn’t profitable enough to justify on staff, at which point she opened her own practice. My father worked at a bank until one of his college friends suggested an entrepreneurial software-producing business, and as such, Multicoreware was born. Both of them brought new jobs to Sunset Hills and provided a necessary service that wouldn’t have existed if they weren’t there.
The word “indigenous” means “native to the land one is living on,” but the term “indigency” simply means “poor.” My family is, under some definitions, indigenous to India, but according to all definitions, we suffer indigence nowhere. We have, in fact, never suffered indigence in our lifetimes. My dad got his education through scholarships, but he did get his education. My mother was even more privileged. Don’t get me wrong, she didn’t have air conditioning or pasteurized milk. She was still wealthy by most Indian metrics, though, and that wealth allowed her to get a degree, which was fundamentally important in getting her green card.
That’s important. Regardless of how you spin their rags-to-riches story, neither of my parents literally started in rags. My father got closer than my mother, but ultimately, neither of them were starving on the street, and there are a lot of people in India starving on the street. Those people don’t end up in the US.
Did you know that not all Asian Americans are wealthy? I don’t mean that literally, obviously some Indians start gambling recklessly or get trapped by a lack of universal healthcare. I mean that “Asian American” is a demographic so large as to be useless. If you break down the overall group, you’ll find we’re harshly divided between people who immigrated like my parents and refugees, making up the top 10% and bottom 10% of US earners. Isn’t that funny?
My family’s from Missouri, Saint Louis specifically.
In the meantime, my parents bought a suburban house and had two daughters. Becoming a doctor or engineer is well-known in India as a ticket to success, but my parents taught my sister and I to value the opportunities this country had, so we followed our hearts instead. My sister bounced around for a while, studying psychology and sociology, but she settled on educational nonprofit work, helping kids in India succeed. She works in fundraising, convincing potential philanthropists that their cause is a good enough one to sponsor. My sister is, I’ve been told, very good at her job; listening to all the office politics is always amusing. I became an ecologist and conservationist. It’s less of a non-sequitor than you’d think: my family adores national parks and hiking, and there’s something so fundamentally beautiful about this continent. Come to the Midwest: we have the best thunderstorms in the world. My job is something I would never get to do in India, and it’s good chunk of the reason I’m so grateful for this country.
On a related note, I said that indigenous means “native to the land one is living on,” but it is more complicated than that. Indians living in India, for example, are rarely called indigenous. It’s a specific kind of colonization that creates the concept of indigeneity. The settling of other people on your land is a necessary step of the process.
Even if that wasn’t true, I wouldn’t be indigenous anywhere. I was born in Missouri: even if I return to India, I will be an American returning to the place of her forefathers, not an India returning to their home country.
There’s actually a thriving Tamilian community in Saint Louis. That’s the reason my parents chose to move there. Of course, by the time I was old enough to really notice social atmospheres, we’d ended up alienated from said community through common drama, so that didn’t affect me much.
By the time I was born, my family had established a pattern of traveling to visit India every year or every other year. Though it is important to understand your roots, we go there for more practical reasons. My grandparents deserve to know me, and my mother runs a charity organization.
The organization has warped over time. At first, we helped fund a school. Then, my mother began running diabetes clinics for rural Tamilians. Nowadays, my mother has been campaigning for an increase in millet-based diets instead of white rice-based diets.
I don’t think either of my parents want to move back to India. It’s still important to take what we’ve learned in the US and return it to India. We owe the country that much.
The result of all of this is that it’s accurate to say my family is from a colonized culture, not an indigenous one, but I am from neither. Within the US, we are primarily aligned with a colonizer culture, enjoying its luxuries and upholding its narratives. I’ve been saying for years that I am more American—using “American” to mean “from the United States,” which is its own can of worms—than I am Indian. I was born in the US, and I was brought up here. These are the opportunities that I have most enjoyed. This means that, regardless of my genuine love for this country, I am a colonizer that has put down roots.
I wonder, sometimes, if I would have connected more with India if I connected more with the community in Saint Louis. I probably would have, I think. I barely know how to celebrate Diwali, and I don’t know any of our other holidays. I’m Hindu in a lazy, abstract way. I don’t speak Tamil.
On the other hand, I’m Indian enough that I don’t get to be American, not all the way. I’m not a pie chart—70% American, 25% Indian, 5% something else—but I might as well have been, the way people used to talk to me.
I’ve gotten something else from our trips to India, though. I’ve knelt in stone temples and before my great-grandmother. I’ve wandered through drip-irrigated farmland and watched my mother bring reusable bags from India because there was nothing like our woven bags in this country. Frugality, sustainability, humility, and spirituality all mean the same thing to me, nowadays. As we were bringing our Western education to our home country, I brought pieces of my home country back to the West.
As an ecologist, this is tricky. In a lot of ways, my field is simply an attempt to gather the knowledge that indigenous people already knew, and we have a bad habit of writing off their credits or overwriting their narrative. On the other hand, my family is from a colonized culture, and there’s a chance my perspective will be worth something because of that. I cannot turn my back on this field. It’s my duty, as somebody who has a chance of understanding the tangles in the connection between culture and conservation, to remain in this field, attempting to help where I can and uplift marginalized voices.
I went to India in high school then again just after the pandemic, and I think I found something worthwhile there. I mean, at first I had to really search for it; I don’t know how my sister finds it so easy to love that country. I really did try, though, and I did find something. I went to this farm vaguely connected to the school my family used to help fund—I don’t think we’re involved anymore, and my mom’s current charity efforts are leaning more chaotic than anything—and I noticed that they were using drip irrigation. After that, I started looking for that sort of thing, and I found it absurdly common. The average Indian I’ve met has no concept of conservation, but they do understand waste and how to avoid it, and often there’s heavy overlap. There are also cultural values surrounding the concept of duty, mindfulness, and practicality that I think really are valuable: I doubt Rama would have much time for fast fashion, prince or no.
As an adult who knows how to look at the world through a cultural lens, I’ve been trying to learn about other culture’s views on conservation as I do my research. UC Davis is trying to include more information on Native American views on sustainability in its curriculum, and I’ve been reading Braiding Sweetgrass in my free time. It’s important to weave scientific methods with indigenous knowledge when promoting sustainability.
Still, I’m worried that I’ll become as complicit, as academia isn’t always built to further true understanding. We have a way of talking as though we have knowledge and indigenous groups have practices, when in reality it’s much more complicated than that.
After that, I started putting real effort in, and I think I’m doing a good job of it. I read the Gita, which was a very good book, and Sundara Kanda, which really wasn’t. I’ve been wearing churidars the last few years, and I bought a Saraswati statue to put next to my Ganeshas. I started meditating. I learned to make chapathi. How many pieces can you put together before you’ve made one whole Indian?
And I really am trying to take this understanding of why culture is important and use it to reach out to others. Solidarity is really important. Did you know that it’s an Indian who attacked affirmative action most recently, the idiot? How do they not realize that racism chips at us all—
Anyways. I inexplicably started with Judaism—well, not inexplicably, I got guilty when I realized I knew more about Nazis than Jewish people—trying to get a shape of what cultural practices look like in the US. I don’t think I did an amazing job, but there’s only so much you can get from books. After that, I started reading more international authors, which I’m not certain did anything, but I enjoyed The Locked Tomb series immensely, so maybe it’s alright.
Cultural understanding is incredibly important work and, in ecology, time bound time bound. We are embedded in a mass extinction of our own making, and we need to work immediately to prevent everything from getting worse. As such, I’m getting a Masters degree, the a PhD, then I’ll get an entry-level government position and work steadily to—
Of course, leaving academia and moving to direct activism would be the most morally correct thing to do, but I’m not certain I have the personality matrix for it. Perhaps I should invest more of my free time into volunteer work.
Most importantly, I really am trying to understand the Native American perspective on the United States, specifically from within California because understanding one culture well seems better than stereotyping a million, but that’s such a massive undertaking, and I really don’t want to come off too white savoir-like as I do it, and if understanding Judaism from a book is impossible I don’t know why I’m trying with Potawatomi culture, Jesus Christ at least I’ve met a Jewish person before—
It’s not about understanding every culture on earth; I understand that. My curiosity drives me to understand everything, but from most people, all that I have are whispers. An rudimentary understanding of Chi from Iron Widow overlaid with giant mechs and messy polyamory. The Peruvian Sacsayhuaman, meaning vulture feast, after the mass of bodies that lay there after the conquistadors had finished their work. The layer of powder on temples in India, leftovers from the stuff that’s supposed to go on your forehead.
It just feels wrong to know so little about the land I’m walking on. A’nowara’kó:wa means Turtle Island, and according to Braiding Sweetgrass, that’s the actual name for North America. I learned that a month ago.
I kind of hate India, but I know it’s mine. It’s not like the US which I’ve had to claim over and over again. The US had to be imprinted on to me through birth certificates and accents and yelling “I am a patriot!” at disruptive times. I was Indian the moment I was born; the land itself is pressed into my skin.
The land I was born on belongs to someone else. It’ll always belong to someone else. That’s not okay, but it has to be.
The work we’re doing is difficult, but it’s the only practical way to make a difference.
We need a revolutionary change, and soon. Continually spinning my wheels like this is useless.
You know how the word “Indian” doesn’t mean actual Indians in the US? I mean, it might be different nowadays, but when I was a kid, “Indian” meant Native American first. I have, in the 20 years of my life, refused to refer to Native Americans as Indians, even when that was their preference. I don’t care that it wasn’t their fault, that “Indian” was as imposed on them as it was stolen from us. It’s our word.
Well, recently I learned that “Indian” wasn’t created by Indians either. The Greeks saw people living around the Indus River and started calling them Indians, but even “The Indus River” was a Greek term: the original word for it was Sindhu.
That’s not why my parents named me Sindhu. They wanted a Tamil name, and for us, Sindhu means “music,” and music is something transcendentally meaningful. It’s funny: that’s not an Indian thing, I don’t think, but it still feels Indian. All of this feels Indian. When I think of India, I think of grime and exhaustion, but when I think of Indians, I think of bright colors and music and how God connects us to the natural cycle. No wonder their country was named after a river, after music. No wonder I am named after my country.
One of the frustrating things about engaging with culture is that it’s the kind of work that’s never finished. It feels like mental health upkeep: it’s vitally important, and if you ignore it long enough you collapse, but lord is it exhausting. We need to put the work in to understanding each other, and colonialism is so baked into the fabric of the US that I don’t think we can progress without addressing it. That doesn’t make it easier to lose and gain appreciation for your country on loop. When an immigrant assimilates, how do they differ from the colonizers that surround them?
I don’t think I’ll ever be happy with my relationship to India. There’s always something more I could be doing, another revelation on the horizon. I don’t think I’ll ever be happy with my relationship to A’nowara’kó:wa either. I just live on it.

How is the polycule looking these days? I’m poly and dating lots of people some of which I live with too and I always love to see other people living the life. I hope you’re all doing well!!!
Hey anon! Always happy to hear from other polyam people 💕
So I'm not sure when I would have last talked about my polycule so I'll just introduce them from the top.
Atm I live with two partners (one of whom is plural so in practice way more!) and I have two "external partners". The partners I live with are married, but otherwise none of my partners are currently dating anyone else, so in that sense I'm the ~glue~ of the polycule atm. Or maybe I'm just a hoe 😘😏 Aside from these guys, we got some honorary members who are "only" friends (whatever the hell that means), who are also important members of my found family.
Tumblr media
I've used the original animal designations from our old @welcome-to-the-petting-zoo podcast.
Quinn (Cat) is all of me (Glitch).
Dae (Hound) refers to the collective formerly referred to as Fox and Trashpanda. Hound and I are engaged. These days I am more or less dating all of Hound. They are doing well. He's been taking T for about a year and he's doing pretty good, he got approved for disability pension which has given some much needed space to heal by doing his own shit. He spends a lot of time zooming up and down the countryside on his scooter 'Lucky', tattooing himself and others, and doing insanely creative awesome crafts and art projects. Hound still struggles with amnesia, and he's still a fundamentally plural person, but the strong dissociative+amnesiac barriers between system members have loosened up, making for a more integrated, yet more plural self-experience. These days a lot of his day to day difficulties come down to physical pain and exhaustion. We are currently also working towards getting him citizenship!
Moose who is legally married to Hound, and who lives with me and Hound, recently finished his education as an embedded software engineer (with a focus on robots!). He's looking for a job atm and even though that process is stressful, he's still doing a lot better from being done with uni, which was frankly a very stressful environment. So he's having a total glow-up 💕
Bear finished their education in psychology a while before me and struggled to find employment, esp. because they weren't necessarily able to work full-time - they recently got approved for "flex-job" which means they can have a 10-20 h job and get paid as if working full-time on that job. They juuuust found employment from next week, so three cheers for Bear!! 🥳🥳🥳
Bat (@the-life-of-bat )has become sooo strong since we managed to get her gender affirming surgery about ... three years ago?! Time sure flies. Like yeah, girl is still traumatized and disabled/mentally ill and whatnot. But her resilience grows by the day, and she is often found hyperfocusing on a most recent project and pulling off insane feats! Also, she's a weeb now. AND I'm old enough not to cringe at someone's genuine joy. Be proud of me! 💪🌈
Lynx and Kat are both close friends/part of the family. I don't know how Lynx feels about me discussing her situation so I won't go into detail, and much more info on Kat can be found over at her blog @compassionatereminders (or check out @2000sgirly where she is currently having a joyful fixation on early 2000s girly pop culture! Even if it's not your thing, her enthusiasm is contagious. )
Overall, we are good. There's hardships to be dealt with, and there probably always will be. Hound's mum is in the process of dying from a fairly aggressive degenerative illness, the immigration laws and psychiatric gatekeeping are tripping people up, I'm struggling to find my place on the "job market", disability and chronic illness will always be a part of all of our lives. But there's also a lot of joy and love and good tidings. And many things that slowly improve and expand and heal and grow.
I'm happy to have so much love in my life, and I'm proud of my little family of delightful freaks and misfits.

The Future of the Asperger Syndrome Market: Trends and Insights
Asperger Syndrome (AS) falls under the autism spectrum and is recognized by difficulties in social interactions, rigid behavioral patterns, and misunderstandings of social norms. Many individuals with AS have average or higher intelligence but face unique challenges in developing communication skills and relationships. Increased awareness of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) has played a significant role in advancing the Asperger Syndrome market.
Asperger Syndrome Market Overview
The Asperger Syndrome market is dynamic and growing, driven by rising diagnostic rates, greater awareness, advancements in treatment approaches, and strengthened support systems. Early intervention remains a cornerstone of effective care, focusing on symptom management, communication development, and social integration.
Epidemiology
Asperger Syndrome is frequently diagnosed in children aged 4 to 11 and ranks among the most commonly identified conditions on the ASD spectrum. The global prevalence is estimated at around 1 in 100 individuals, though these figures may evolve with ongoing research and improved diagnostic practices. Symptoms can range from mild to moderate and often persist into adulthood, affecting aspects of life such as employment, relationships, and mental health. Enhanced awareness and diagnostic tools have enabled earlier detection and more effective intervention strategies, improving outcomes for individuals with the disorder.
Key Asperger Syndrome Companies
Increased Awareness and Advocacy Advocacy organizations and non-profits have played a pivotal role in raising ASD awareness, enabling earlier diagnosis and improving long-term outcomes for individuals with Asperger Syndrome.
Advances in Diagnostic Technology Tools like genetic testing, brain imaging, and behavioral analysis software have improved the accuracy and timeliness of diagnoses, facilitating early intervention.
Development of Targeted Treatments
Medications: Treatments such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), atypical antipsychotics, and stimulants are commonly used to manage symptoms.
Therapies: Behavioral interventions, including social skills training and psychological support, are effective in reducing symptoms and improving functionality.
Government Support and Research Initiatives Governments worldwide are prioritizing ASD research and awareness through funding programs and public health initiatives, promoting the development of new therapies and better resources for care.
Market Challenges
Underdiagnosis and Misdiagnosis The symptoms of Asperger Syndrome are sometimes misinterpreted as other mental health conditions, resulting in delays in diagnosis and treatment, which can hinder developmental progress.
Limited Specific Treatments Despite a range of therapies available for symptom management, there is no definitive cure or universally accepted treatment specifically for Asperger Syndrome.
High Cost of Care The expense of behavioral therapies and social skills training, coupled with limited insurance coverage in some regions, restricts access to necessary care for many families.
Major Players in the Market
The Asperger Syndrome market comprises pharmaceutical companies, therapy providers, research institutions, and advocacy organizations. Key industry players include:
Johnson & Johnson: A global leader in mental health and developmental disorder research.
AbbVie: Recognized for its contributions to neurological and ASD-related treatments.
Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.: A prominent organization in advancing mental health therapies.
Additionally, non-profit groups like Autism Speaks and academic institutions play critical roles in research and advocacy for Asperger Syndrome.
Asperger Syndrome Market Trends
Technology Integration in Therapy Innovations like virtual reality (VR), artificial intelligence (AI), and online platforms are being leveraged to enhance social skills and teach coping mechanisms in controlled, simulated environments.
Emphasis on Early Diagnosis Programs focused on early detection of ASD symptoms have shown positive outcomes, particularly for children diagnosed during their formative years.
Personalized Care Plans With a deeper understanding of Asperger Syndrome, healthcare providers are increasingly offering tailored treatment plans that address each individual’s unique challenges and strengths.
Future Asperger Syndrome Market Outlook and Forecast
The Asperger Syndrome market is expected to experience robust growth in the coming years, driven by technological advancements, growing awareness, and the development of innovative treatment options. Early diagnosis and personalized care approaches will remain at the forefront of market expansion.

### LaQuanda Tribe Health Department Dispatch
**Dispatch Title**: Impact of Computer Software and Malware on Cognitive Processing
**Date**: December 22, 2024
**Prepared by**: LaQuanda Tribe Health Department
---
**1. Introduction**
This dispatch addresses emerging concerns regarding the impact of computer software, particularly malware, on cognitive processing among tribe members. Recent observations have indicated a correlation between exposure to malicious software and psychosomatic symptoms, which can significantly affect mental health and cognitive function.
---
**2. Observations**
- **Cognitive Processing Blocks**: Members have reported experiencing cognitive processing difficulties, including problems with focus, memory recall, and decision-making. These symptoms appear to align with increased exposure to computer malware and disruptive software.
- **Psychosomatic Symptoms**: Many individuals are exhibiting psychosomatic symptoms, such as headaches, fatigue, and anxiety, which manifest physically but are linked to mental stressors related to their interactions with technology. Patients have expressed a need to constantly think about or address these symptoms, leading to increased cognitive strain.
---
**3. Link to Malware**
- **Malware as a Cognitive Disruption**: Just as malware infiltrates computer systems to disrupt functionality, it can metaphorically be seen as “malware” for the mind. The cognitive processing framework can become obstructed when individuals are subjected to constant digital distractions, intrusive notifications, and the psychological burden of managing potential digital threats.
- **Psychological Impact**: The persistent worry about malware can lead to an overwhelming preoccupation with technology, diverting mental resources away from productive thought processes. This mental clutter can contribute to cognitive overload, making it difficult for individuals to think clearly or concentrate on tasks.
---
**4. Recommendations**
- **Digital Detox**: We recommend implementing regular digital detox periods where members can step away from screens to alleviate cognitive strain and reduce psychosomatic symptoms. Engaging in mindfulness practices and outdoor activities can promote mental clarity and well-being.
- **Education on Cyber Hygiene**: The Health Department will collaborate with the IT Department to provide workshops on best practices for cybersecurity, helping members understand the risks associated with malware and how to mitigate them effectively.
- **Mental Health Support**: Members experiencing significant cognitive and psychosomatic symptoms are encouraged to seek support from mental health professionals within the tribe. Counseling and therapy can provide coping strategies to manage stress and anxiety related to technology use.
---
**5. Conclusion**
The LaQuanda Tribe Health Department is committed to addressing the mental health challenges posed by computer software and malware. By recognizing the link between digital exposure and cognitive processing difficulties, we can better support our community members in maintaining their mental well-being.
