Let's Talk.
No really. Let's REALLY talk. I am sick of discussions that are the depth of a puddle. Can we at least make it to the depth of a Wisconsin pothole? Cmon people. We have all stopped disulcussing things. We've stopped talking to each other. We are all so worries about being politically correct, or worrying about losing friends because of differing opinions
It doesn't have to be this way.
Agreeing to disagree is a POWERFUL thing. We all need people in our lives. And sometimes, people who are strongly on the opposite side of our own views can be a healthy and powerful friendship. This world, this life, Should be all about BALANCE. Be balanced, or at least strive to be. It is amazing how much better life is as a whole, when balance is the goal.
In the spirit of this I'm starting a new chain of social media posts. I'm going to aim to bring balance. To everything I can touch. Sometimes it'll be clockapp stuff. Sometimes I post on Instagram. Sometimes tumbler. Sometimes the post will be a (hopefully) though provoking article, sometimes a parent hack, a DIY project, a secret cheat code for something in life. A recipe, a song I like. A rant. An opinion piece. A complaint. A celebration. A video about my kids. Pictures of something I saw that was pretty. Sad stuff, happy stuff, mad stuff.
You get the gist. I'm going to post a little bit of everything. Because that's real life. That's balance.
The rules for any of my Project Balance posts! If you are gonna comment on or talk to anyone or on any platform about the topic I post about:
-Keep it honest, but keep it respectful!
Name callers, people just looking to fight, rude people, people being purposefully hurtful or nasty, people escalating situations in anyway shape or form. All will be at my discretion to remove. I want these discussions to stay as civil as possible. Also don't lie to make a point, don't exaggerate but still call it factual. We all get heated. We all get emotional. That's fine, but don't double down and give exaggerated information as basic fact and donr give hyperbole or opinion as proven fact.
-I will endeavor to be aware of other peoples sensitivity.
All posts that may be sensitive topics will have a TW at the top and have an intro so that the "read more" will auto-implement and then everyone can scroll past if the topic is too inflammatory for them. I will also endeavor to have a TW image as part of the post so you don't even have to pause long enough to read the intro.
-Agree to Disagree
That being said, if you decide to get involved in one of these sensitive for you topics, do your best to reamin calm. If you get heated or upset, walk away and turn off post notifications. Keep scrolling. Your mental health matters, first of all! And Secondly, walking away and letting it go is the best way to not have it escalate into a fight. Avoiding confrontational discussions is the best way to avoid losing friendships you would rather keep.
-Don't take it For-Real-Life.
If you see a trigger warning post and decide to read it, do NOT let it affect a friendship that you have solely based on their opinions or views in regards to the post. If the topic hadn't been a problem within your friendship prior to reading the post, then it will continue to not be a problem in your friendship, UNLESS YOU MAKE IT ONE. By all means, if you were already looking to separate yourself from someone and decide this is the nail in the coffin for your friendship, go for it. But go for the breakup discussion in your own dms or posts, not on mine. But otherwise, be an adult and don't make a non-threat into a big problem because you suddenly became aware of a person's opinion.
-Opinions....
The only opinions you should let affect you are those of the people who: feed, finance, or f**k you. In other words, if the person doesn't have a direct hand/effect in your day to day life, their opinion isn't worth losing sleep over. And keep in mind, it really is none of our business what other people's opinions of us are.
We all cool on this?? Awesome...let's reconnect with each other. Expand our brains, and talk about something other than the weather ;)
