Very interesting. Since I started to take progesterone capsules in the second phase of the cycle I have been having hardly any head aches at all. ( I am not sure if they were considered migranes, did not get it checked, but the head aches were very harsh and did not really get better with commen pain medicine.)
Progesterone is might be an option to try - just make sure to take it after ovulation - you might have to track your cycle to do this well.
A lot of doctors might say: Take it after day 14 of the cycle, but ovulation is very individual and can be on different days.
Migraines are throbbing headaches often accompanied by nausea and increased sensitivity to light, sound and touch. Nearly 30 million Americans suffer from migraines, and almost 1 in 4 of them have at least four severe attacks each month. Three times as many women suffer from migraine headaches as men, and this disparity is even more pronounced during reproductive years. Migraines often occur around the menstrual cycle, during which reproductive hormones such as progesterone and estrogen rise and fall. The levels of both these hormones are low during the perimenstrual period.

This post keeps appearing on my dash and I know that is because I follow the menstruation tag, and I know that this is meant as a joke. BUT it also shows so clearly that fundamental knowledge about the cycle is lacking. (This is not just happening in posts like this, I keep seeing it in multiple posts.)
Menstruation does not just happen - it is linked to ovulation. Your ovulation is what makes your menstruation late or early. If you ovulate late, you will menstruate late. When Ovulation happens the follicle transforms into the corpus luteum and starts to produce progesterone. This starts the second phase of the cycle - when the follicle stopps to produce progesterone your menstruation starts. If you have a weak corpus luteum this might happen 10 days after ovulation, but it can take up to 16 days for this to happen.
This is also the reason why you do not have a period while on birth controll: You do not have an ovulation and do not have a cycle.
Knowing this you could never be surprised by your menstruation ever again. I am tracking my cycle since I was 18 - not just the menstruation but my cervical mucus which shows clearly when ovulation happens. If I want to use it as a contraception I also take my morning temperature, and do this under certain rules. But just for knowing when I bleed this is not nesessary.
I know how long my progesterone phase is, so from the moment my ovulation is over, I know when my bleeding will start.
I know I have to get my period once a month and that’s fine. Honestly I’m good with that. (Better than the alternative) But I wish I could pick when it came. Like I have plans next week but my period is suppose to come. Can I just move it up? I’ll do it now! Can I choose when I comes? I’ll do the full time! I won’t forget I promise! Just let me pick when.

#human domestication guide#hdg#currently reading Divaricated and#okay this story IS good#i didn’t like the kink parts of the foundational story but yeah the sci-fi is nice#Thatch is depicted as a cabeza de negro yam#which was used to synthesise progesterone and estrogen#i guess my problem with this scene was generally the idea that i would panic at missing a dose#but yeah the panic properly depicts the early trans girl anxiety one gets

ponzu had an elective c-section yesterday 6/17, so she has been groggy and, frankly, a bit scared of the puppies since we got home. we’ve been able to get them nursing without much trouble, but she definitely hasn’t enjoyed the experience. just now as i score AP lang essays in the wee hours, she went in the box on her own to sit and admire them. she didn’t nurse them on her own yet, but she made an attempt to potty them and wagged her tail sweetly when they cried. as some of you know, ponzu has helped with neonate kittens and been a good nanny to young puppies in the past, but it’s a different story when they want to nurse on your sliced up belly! poor sauce. i so wanted to avoid putting her under the knife, but she’s doing well and coming around quick.
#ponzu#2 years#saucepackets2024#i elected to do a section bc by 10am on day 64 she had not yet had a progesterone drop#meaning she was just not going to go into labor#puppies were confirmed ready to go by ultrasound and were in absolutely no distress#and no way was i going to wait for them to be in danger#I’m very happy with my decision. it was the only decision. and ponzu is doing very well

So y'all may have noticed I've been posting a lot about progesterone lately. I'm at the point on HRT (just passed the 9 month mark [with the asterisk that my levels didn't get good until 7 months or so]) where I'm actively considering it. I'm waiting a bit more for a couple reasons, but its still on my mind a lot.
And it bothers me how much the "no compelling evidence for progesterone" line is floated around. And this is true, for the exact case of breast size in transgender women. And yeah, maybe this study has been done.
But I have two things that I think should be said about this:
1, there will never be a clinical study that studies the exact niche case of person that you are. That's why thinking about when results can be translated from a different group that has been studied, to your group. In my opinion, most information about cis female hormones can be translated to trans women. There's far less of a physiological difference than people think, and most of those differences are dictated by hormones anyways.
2, progesterone has an enormous number of effects beyond breast development, in both cis and trans women.
Why do I bring these up?
Take a look at this review paper (if you can meaningfully read it):
This is a review paper that I somehow only just stumbled upon that summarizes a lot of my thoughts about progesterone that I developed from other sources.
It primarily uses data from cis women, but also supplements with data from trans women when applicable, about the effects of progesterone. And, as can be seen just by the sheer number of topics addressed, it finds a diverse set of functions that it regulates and improves. At that point, any breast growth that may or may not occur is a happy side effect.
Progesterone is part of normal female physiology, just like estrogen. So why the hell is it not standard practice with HRT the same way that estradiol is? It just needs to be applied later. That's pretty much it.
