I was thinking back to the post I made about ebooks being so much more accessible for so many people compared to paperbacks/hardbacks and the other thing I wanted to add is the vast, vast majority of the time, the author gets so much more profit comparatively for an ebook than a paperback/hardback.
That's not a problem for huge huge huge authors either way, but for small-time authors, or authors with small publishing houses, the difference in profits can sometimes be $2.00 or $3.00 per ebook sold vs. $0.50c or $1.00 per paperback. Really. You pay more, but the author gets a lot less.
In the case of indie authors like myself, ebooks give the highest returns always.
This isn't necessarily something most readers think about, but I have had readers assume that because the book format cost them more, that automatically means more goes to the author. In fact it's often the opposite. There are very few exceptions (university texts come to mind). But in the case of your run-of-the-mill indie fiction, if you genuinely want the most profit to go to the author, get the ebook.
#asks and answers#ebooks more than any other format - audio / paperback / hardback#almost always return profits the fastest#it's hard to explain#but yeah that's how it goes#there are exceptions just like#there are exceptions to everything#also the most expensive format for any author is audio#this is why so many indie authors are straight up using Gen-AI to produce audiobooks#a novel costs around $4000-6000 USD to record in audio#and most indie novels only ever make $1000 over their lifetime if that#for many authors they are either vanity projects#or they thought they'd earn out the loss and then realise just how broke they are#for all that accessibility is extremely important#audiobooks and the cost have killed indie careers#keep it in mind before asking an author to create an audiobook#that's only ever going to sell about 50 copies sdlakfjdas

I get it, TF2 is a really important game to a lot of people, myself included even if I havent really played in years. but the game is almost 17 years old. the fact that its even still around is kind of incredible on its own. and yeah it would be cool if it was still getting updated, but I get the sense that valve hasn't really given a shit about it for years and is/has been putting in the bare minimum. I think expecting any kind of capitulation from valve for a game that's that old and more importantly, far less profitable than in it's heyday is wishful thinking atp...
#tf2#addy.txt#like it is still profitable dgmrw but its gonna be such a massively diminished return for the money they'd put into a new update#that it's simply not worth it#appreciate the time you have left with it!!#it may never truly die if there's enough community support to keep independent servers running#maybe put the community effort behind that instead?

"Invest in the millennium. Plant sequoias.
Say that your main crop is the forest
that you did not plant,
that you will not live to harvest.
Say that the leaves are harvested
when they have rotted into the mold.
Call that profit. Prophesy such returns.
Put your faith in the two inches of humus
that will build under the trees
every thousand years.
Listen to carrion â put your ear
close, and hear the faint chattering
of the songs that are to come.
Expect the end of the world. Laugh.
Laughter is immeasurable. Be joyful
though you have considered all the facts."
Wendell Berry, Manifesto: the Mad Farmer's Liberation Front
#i wanted to just post the whole damn poem but it's too long#i picked the part where i think Berry's poetry is prettiest#i love 'call that profit. prophesy such returns'

The similarities between Julius Caesarâs assassination and the Ides of Marsh are well documented in fandom. Itâs also generally agreed that the fall of the Nightâs Watch will mirror the fall of the Roman Republic, which was quite ironically brought on by Caesarâs death. But I never see it acknowledged that Julius Caesar, some time after the establishment of Octavianâs Augustusâ rule, became deified (meaning that he was worshipped as a god or to put it bluntly, Julius Caesar ascended to godhood).
What does this have to do with Jon Snow? Well, apotheosis (1, 2) is one of the most important stages that comes towards the end of a heroâs journey. Here, the hero reaches some higher level of understanding or personhood, and this allows them to complete the hardest trials still to come in their journey. We see mental changes, but these could also be accompanied by physical changes. A good example of this in high fantasy is Gandalfâs death and return as Gandalf the White. In other myths and stories, we can point to the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. In ASOIAF, we have mini versions of this with Bran Stark and Jojen Reed, two children who experience life or death situations but came back with heightened magical power (Bran especially).
Jon Snow is currently at his âjourney to the underworldâ/âbelly of the whaleâ moment, where he is to (presumably) face his greatest trials. Apotheosis usually comes after this stage (and is often preceded by other stages such as the âmeeting of the goddessâ and âatonement with the fatherâ, both of which could very well appear in Jonâs journey as he learns of his true identity and purpose).
But what would apotheosis mean for Jon? Thatâs the key question. He is sure to experience profound mental changes and trauma, but these are sure to be accompanied by great magical changes that manifest physically. In the same way that Bran came out of his coma and started his journey as the last greenseer (well, once Bloodraven kicks the bucket), Jon is sure to come out of his death experience a far more powerful being. The thing is that Jon needs to change into the hero Westeros needs and the magical act of dying and coming back to life should play a role in that.
However, it wonât all be fine and dandy for him. GRRM has criticized Gandalfâs return where he seemingly came back to life better than ever with no great effects. In the same way that Jon is literally experiencing a descent into the underworld (a step that is sometimes figurative for many modern heroes), we can also ascertain that he will experience a very literal ascension into godhood (or the closest thing we have to that in ASOIAF). But magic always comes with a price. And whatever sort of âgodâ Jon turns into post-resurrection, he wonât be a very pretty one.
#asoiaf#valyrianscrolls#jon snow#I didnât have space for this in the post but I think weâre bound to see an anti parallel at work with jon and euron greyjoy#euron very much wants to become a god - heck he has a whole spiel about being worshipped like one#but euron will likely be a false god#the way stannis will likely be a false savior#but SOMEONE has to be the real deal rightâŚ?#and if youâre like me and you believe jon will attain his heroâs boon - aka lightbringer#then itâs probably gonna be#belly of the whale (death) > meeting the goddess/atonement with the father (learning rlj) >#return to the living > apotheosis > ultimate boon (finally forging lightbringer and proving himself to be azor ahai) > ?? > kinghood/profit#yeah idk#julius caesar#historical parallels#the heros journey#lit analysis

If there's one thing I've respectively noticed from Zionists and defenders of Israeli war crimes, it's that every source, argument and potential avenue to explore each explanation is riddled with cherry picking, moving the goalposts and mental gymnastics to explain why their conclusions, which typically are barely even related to the sources they use, somehow overshadow literal reality and what we see with our own eyes.
While scrolling, one example I came across was the repetitive misrepresentation of BLM, antifa and quotes from Martin Luther King Jr, as well as statistics, scholarly journal articles and government website information. These are all good sources, yet every single time they're mangled completely until the only possible "interpretation" of any of them is "well Israel is right to defend itself after shorting rockets beforehand because the retaliation was brutal and all Arabs are bad by default therefore". As if any of these sources are even about individual exceptions of Israel versus hatred towards Arabs.
I think what I find most absurd, as someone in the middle of their own studies, is how every bit of critical thinking and logic goes out the window as they do every single thing possible to do what professors worldwide say NOT to do when evaluating sources. It's like watching a race to see who can tangle and misconstrue scientific information to fit their world view the fastest. Then said people say "um actually I studied at university before so it's actually not wrong that I'm doing this exact this everyone is warned not to do because I have a permit". Ignorance I can forgive, but willful and arrogant manipulation? That's another thing entirely.
#zionism#my gods y'all need to get a grip and start remembering that confirmation bias exists#and y'all use sources continually in this way while just generally having so much bs of presenting How To Not Use My Own Sources#or actually to be more correct you clearly do know you just choose not to because you'd rather be justified in resource theft and profit#Like the while tome it's been about either material gain or feeling good about yourself while you shit on strangers#and then I also see y'all make other accounts ro harass random Arabs for fun and random queers who aren't even related like#the fuck is wrong with y'all go sit down and think about why you all do this pointless bs#it's such a waste of your own life spending it looking for fights to help with your bottomless insecurities#Israel#fuck israel#long live palestine#like you can say hamas was bad all you like it doesn't actually change the situation and what y'all have been doing for 76 years#and actually longer but y'all arent ready for that conversation and how Zionists butchered Jews and helped Nazi Germany historically#like sorry that Was a thing that happened and if you want to label yourselves as The Sacred Protectors of Jews then you have to face that#Pretending history didn't happen isn't helpful to anyone including yourselves y'all just making Zionism look even worse and like idiocy#I mean it is but you all aren't helping yourselves by being literal holocaust deniers#and being like âbut Zionists saved Jews afterwardsâ as if that somehow erases the fact they ALSO helped the Nazis#like history is full of contradictory bullshit so when you say âbut what about thisâ you know that doesn't erase the other things right??#âThat's worse. You DO see how that's worse right?â#I'm shaking you all and yelling this like it is WORSE that they killed Jews and then started playing the saviour and fellow victims#You do see how that is really bad for Jews today to be in a place created for political power plays and material gain through any means#like you see how that could be REALLY dangerous for Jews if they're that expendable to Zionist entities and the government#and you do realise that is literally what we are seeing from the actions of said government#and how they acting sadly very predictablely when you consider the historical contexts for its existence?#People who research this shit aren't surprised because it happens every single year and has been happening for centuries -#- before Israel the holocaust etc. It's been like this for as long as political Zionism and the French Revolution#It's been going on since pre Marxism and pre a lot of differing things but y'all pretend Zionists haven't ever harmed Jews ever when -#- there's a long history of internal conflict and in fighting that formed modern Zionism and plenty of internalised antisemetism within it#Yeah there's a genuine desire for return to the land (Not Own It just return and live peacefully)#but that is very very different to Political Zionism that formed as a socialist nationalist movement

Hereâs an explanation of why the marvel shows have been less than great
The Hollywood Reporter:
The article goes into further detail about what is happening with Daredevil, the issues faced on the past shows and other things. Iâd suggest looking into this if youâre interested but the basics are:
Marvel is returning to a more traditional way of making tv after facing numerous issues and is reworking Daredevil: Born Again
I think if youâve been disappointed with marvel recently then this may be your answer
#Iâm just gonna put my opinions here:#in my opinion this is just a symptom of#Marvels push for bigger profits causing quality to plummet#this extents to the companyâs disrespect for its writers#and I hope the writers are treated fairly#and can return to producing the quality tv that we know they are capable of#this change/backtrack feels like it has been a long time coming#marvel#disney#daredevil#daredevil: born again#marvel mcu#disney plus#hollywood reporter#tv series#writers#tv news#marvel cinematic universe#charlie cox#matt murdock#film and television#television

Note from Return Fire
This interview was conducted in 2021, but a frequently cutting-out internet connection heavily marred the audio version it was first released as, leading to much frustration and repetition during the conversation, which has here been edited out. Doubtless much richness was lost in the parts that were untranscribable from the original, but we hope this version will extend the reach and audience for this perennial conversation.
As the interviewing host stated, âI think itâs really important that we have these discussions, especially now when I think a lot of environmental movements that have limited themselves to this type of non-violence are starting to show their limitations and their failings, so itâs really important that we push a better alternative; both in words, but also in actions, in showing these things in practice.â
With recent groups such as This Is Not a Drill[1] emerging in the UK â yet still with a code of non-violence, albeit having discarded the idiotic categorisation of property damage as violence â we think itâs as necessary as ever to promote a vision of struggle which (no matter what tactics we use) ties us back into our histories, and forms a bridge to our comrades and allies fighting in other lands. We want such groups to continue, gain experiences and perspectives to share, and also that they can benefit from the collective knowledge built up over generations and generations of struggles, which the newest iteration of the âclimate justice movementâ has often failed to heed or integrate.
To this end we present this transcription; additionally, as any movement which forgets the prisoners in the end forgets the struggle itself, this is now released to coincide with the annual International Week of Solidarity with Anarchist Prisoners.[2] Letâs not forget jailed eco-defence fighters like Marius Mason, whose participation in the Earth Liberation Front (ELF) of two decades past reveals much wisdom to absorb from that cycle of action, reaction and repression. (Regarding the topic of this interview, a recommended resource for how that conversation played out during those years can be found in the article âThe Telescope or the Kaleidoscope: A Critique of the ELFâ, specifically regarding the non-violence code of the latter.)
Lastly, please refer to the end of the text for the details of prisoners from last yearâs Kill the Bill riot in Bristol:[3] people who were on the streets and often fighting back to defend the conditions for even ânon-violentâ action.

What is Mutual Fund?
A mutual fund is a type of investment vehicle that pools money from multiple investors to invest in a diversified portfolio of securities such as stocks, bonds, and other assets. Investments in securities are spread across a wide cross-section of industries and sectors and thus the risk is reduced.
It is managed by a professional fund manager or an asset management company (AMC) who makes investment decisions on behalf of the investors.
Mutual funds offer good investment opportunities to the investors. Like all investments, they also carry certain risks
SEBI formulates policies and regulates the mutual funds to protect the interest of the investors.
OVERVIEW OF MUTUAL FUNDS INDUSTRY IN INDIA
The mutual fund industry in India was set up through a combination of regulatory changes, legislative reforms and the entry of various market players.
Unit Trust of India- UTI was founded in 1964, which is when the mutual fund sector in India first started to take off. To mobilize public funds and invest them in the capital markets, UTI was established as a statutory body under the UTI Act, 1963. The idea of mutual funds was greatly popularized in India because to UTI.
Regulatory Framework-In India, the mutual fund industry's regulatory structure began to take shape in the 1990s. The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) Act, which established SEBI as the governing body for the Indian securities markets, was passed in 1993. Among other market intermediaries, SEBI was responsible with regulating and supervising mutual funds.
The SEBI (Mutual Funds) Regulations,1996- This regulation established the legal foundation for the establishment, administration, and operation of mutual funds in India. These regulations outlined the standards for investor protection, investment restrictions, disclosure requirements, and eligibility requirements for asset management companies (AMCs).
Introduction of Private Sector Mutual Funds: UTI was the only active mutual fund provider in India prior to 1993. Private sector mutual funds were nevertheless permitted to enter the market as a result of the liberalization of the financial sector and the opening up of the Indian economy. Many domestic and foreign financial organizations launched their own AMCs and entered the mutual fund industry.
Product Line Evolution: The mutual fund sector in India has grown and increased its product selection throughout the years. Mutual funds initially mainly offered income and growth opportunities. To address various investor needs and risk profiles, the industry did, however, offer a wider range of products, such as equity funds, debt funds, balanced funds, and specialist sector funds.
Investor Education and Awareness: Serious efforts have been made to educate and raise investor awareness in order to encourage investor involvement in mutual funds. Industry groups, AMCs, and SEBI have run investor awareness campaigns, distributed instructional materials, and supported systems for resolving investor complaints. Systematic Investment Plans (SIPs) were introduced, and this was a significant factor in luring individual investors
Technological Advancements-The mutual fund sector in India has embraced technological development, making it possible for investors to access and invest in mutual funds through online platforms and mobile applications. Investors can now transact, track their investments, and get mutual fund information more easily thanks to digital platforms.
The mutual fund industry in India has developed into a strong and regulated sector through regulatory changes, market competition, and investor-centric initiatives. The sector keeps expanding, drawing in more investors and providing them with a wide variety of investment possibilities around the nation.
