Maharashtra Unfiltered: Raw Politics, Daily Delivered – 19 November 2024
Maharashtra’s politics are full of excitement right now as the state gets ready for the 2024 Assembly elections, which are set for November 20. This election is very important, and there will be a tough race between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Congress, and their partners, the Shiv Sena groups and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). This election is a big deal in Maharashtra’s political history[2, 3] because over 4,140 candidates are running in 288 districts.
Important Politicians and Parties
There are important people on both sides of the election:
The BJP is led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who has made his group in the Shiv Sena a key partner. Shinde’s government has put a lot of effort into building up facilities and progress[4].
Congress: Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra are in charge of this party, which wants to regain ground in Maharashtra.
Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT): Thackeray is running on a platform of social justice and regional pride. He wants to get his party’s power back after it broke up with Shinde.
Ajit Pawar’s NCP faction: Ajit Pawar, who is now deputy chief minister, is also a major candidate. He leads a group that has traditionally had a lot of power in Maharashtra politics[3].
Important Changes
As of today, November 19, 2024, politics are very heated, with people running for office at the last minute and making last-minute plans. The opposition coalition, called the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), is trying to take power away from the Mahayuti alliance, which is run by the BJP. Both groups have gotten national leaders to help their campaigns, so the stakes are high. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have been working hard to get people all over the state to back the cause[5].
Important Groups to Keep an Eye on
Several groups are being closely watched as possible predictors of the overall election outcome:
1. Worli: A big election with Aaditya Thackeray (Shiv Sena-UBT) running against Milind Deora (Shinde group) and Sandeep Deshpande (MNS).
Baramati is a traditional base for the Pawar family. In this fight, Ajit Pawar is up against Yugendra Pawar, who is backed by Sharad Pawar.
3. Kopri-Pachpakhadi is Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s district, where he is running against Kedar Dighe. This election has personal stakes for both of them [3, 4].
How Elections Work
The upcoming elections aren’t just about parties; they also show problems in society as a whole. There are now over 96 million registered voters, including almost 2 million people who are voting for the first time. This change in the population could affect how people vote, especially younger voters who are becoming more worried about things like unemployment and the economy[2].
Also, claims of election fraud have come to light, including claims that cash was given to voters to change how they voted. Law enforcement agencies across Maharashtra have seized large amounts of cash and illegal gifts, which raises worries about the fairness of the election process[5].
What this means for Maharashtra
The results of these elections will have long-lasting effects on how Maharashtra is run and what policies are made. A win for the coalition led by the BJP could strengthen its grip on power and allow it to keep working on its growth plans. If, on the other hand, the MVA is able to take back control, it could mean a move toward more progressive policies that focus on social justice and regional growth.
All eyes will be on Maharashtra tomorrow, November 20, as people get ready to go to the polls for what looks like it will be one of the most important elections in recent memory. The findings will be made public on November 23. They will not only decide how local governments will work in the future, but they will also set the stage for national political alignments before the next general elections[2, 3].

[ad_1] GG News Bureau New Delhi, 28th Nov. Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned till 12 noon on Thursday after Opposition members, including Congress and Samajwadi Party leaders, staged protests over several issues, including the Adani controversy and the recent violence in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh. The session began with Congress leaders Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, elected from Kerala’s Wayanad, and Ravindra Vasantrao Chavan, elected from Maharashtra’s Nanded, taking their oaths as newly elected MPs. However, shortly after, several Opposition members stood up to demand discussions on the allegations against the Adani Group and other issues. As protests intensified, with some Opposition members standing in the Well of the House and shouting slogans, Speaker Om Birla urged the members to allow the Question Hour to proceed. He reminded them that they had been given ample opportunities to raise their concerns, but the disruption of proceedings was unacceptable. He further stated that issues should be raised in a dignified manner, as was done during the Constituent Assembly debates. Amid the chaos, only one question was taken up before the Speaker decided to adjourn the proceedings until noon. Opposition members had demanded a discussion on the Adani Group allegations and the violence in Sambhal, where recent clashes had resulted in several deaths. On Wednesday, the Adani Group clarified that neither Gautam Adani nor his nephew, Sagar Adani, had been charged with any violations of the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) in connection with the bribery case filed in New York. Wayanad Landslide Live Updates (July 31): The tragic landslide that struck the hilly areas near Meppadi in Kerala’s Wayanad district has resulted in the recovery of at least 156 bodies, while 200 individuals have sustained injuries. The calamity has led to the discovery of over 50 bodies in the Chaliyar river, several kilometers downstream, which are now being kept at the Government Hospital in Nilambur, as reported by 24 news channel.
Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi’s Visit Postponed: Initially scheduled to meet the families affected by the Wayanad landslide on Wednesday, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi had to postpone their visit due to adverse weather conditions .Rahul Gandhi posted on X, “Authorities have notified us that due to continuous rainfall and poor weather conditions, landing will not be possible.”
State Response and Rescue Operations: In response to the disaster, the Kerala government has declared a two-day state mourning. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has called for collective efforts to rebuild the affected areas, drawing parallels to the recovery efforts following the 2018 floods in the state. Rescue operations are in full swing, with the army deploying 200 soldiers from the Defence Security Corps and a medical team. Rahul Gandhi opens up about the INDIA bloc success in the Lok Sabha Election 2024
Congress party leader Rahul Gandhi in a statement said that the PM Modi led government would struggle to survive in its third term. He added that the reason is that the Bhartiya Janta Party failed to secure the majority of 272 seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections.
In a first ever interview after the election results, Rahul Gandhi said that the Indian political landscape has evolved greatly.
The space in the Indian political system has been blown open,” Rahul told the press.
The outstanding performance of INDIA bloc outperformed in the Lok Sabha elections. They secured 234 out of 534 seats whereas the BJP-led NDA government secured 293 seats.
The numbers are such that they are very fragile, and the smallest disturbance can drop the government… Basically, one ally has to turn the other way,” Rahul Gandhi said.
“The idea that you can spread hatred, you can spread anger and you can reap benefits of that — the Indian people have rejected it in this election,” Rahul quoted after winning two seats from Raebarelli and Wayanad each.
“That’s also why the coalition will struggle,” Rahul Gandhi said, adding that “Because what worked for Mr Narendra Modi in 2014 and 2019 is not working.”
Rahul Gandhi played a crucial role in making the feat possible for the Congress led INDIA-bloc. He, on Monday declared that he would retain the Raebareli seat and gave the Wayanad seat to Priyanka Gandhi where she will begin her electoral debut.
