🪨Venture (OW II) x (gn) reader ⛏️
(First Kiss Edition!)
Tumblr media
(Not my picture!)
(I thought this song was perfect for this, I remember watching this in the movie theaters way back when, loved it and still do. The first time I saw a representation of some of my culture on that scale, such an underrated movie.)
- In any situation you guys are in, working together or having two different jobs? I don’t think it’d be a surprise when I say the first kiss happens very early into the relationship and they’re the one to initiate it.
- No coaxing or dancing around the subject, you’re getting kissed like three days into the relationship tops.
- If you guys work for Overwatch together, and y’all won a particularly rough mission after going back and forth with the enemy, emotions are high as the celebration of the triumph proceeds.
- It happens so suddenly, like you’re next to Venture, happy as a clam after putting your all into your fighting. Then, out of nowhere, you’re getting grabbed and pulled into a sudden and passionate kiss that leaves you stunned and flushed, silent as a church mouse when they pull away.
- You know that one scene in ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’ Where Roger kisses Detective Valiant as if his life depended on it? It’s along the lines of something like that.
- You probably said something like, “I could kiss you right now!” After they saved you from getting pulverized and in their mind they went “Bet”.
- Trust me, they’re also kind of surprised that they actually did it—
- Time freezes for a moment as y’all kissed cause the team to go silent before an uproar from the particularly positive teammates— Causing even more cheering, especially if you have someone like Reinhardt on the team, he’d hype you guys up so much.
- That or if you guys are archeologists or simply have different jobs from one another it’s more private and Sloane can try to convince you that it was on purpose. But in Overwatch? Fuck no lol.
- The whole roster was like 80% sure you guys were a thing, but that went up 1000% when Sloane kissed you as if they needed it to breathe.
- Spreads like wildfire and by the end of the day everyone knows you guys are a couple, and a rather cute one on top of that.
- At least you guys don’t have to tell everyone that you’re a thing now.
- It makes Venture a little sad. They were planning something big to announce it cause they felt like it needed to be as special as they think your guys’s relationship is. They were biting back the urge to brag about it for 72 hours (the longest time they’ve ever kept something like that to themselves besides their feelings before you guys were a thing), all for naught.
- Reassure them it isn't a big deal and that if they look at it from a different perspective, the first kiss was a great way of doing it.
- They’ll spring back up when you say that, saying something like “Oh I planned to do it like that anyways!”
- You know, like a liar.
- Besides that little hiccup, it was a great first kiss, they wouldn't have it any other way.
- As one might expect, everyone has different views on the matter, with the positive ones that are like “Aweee look at them go!” And think it’s cute: (Ana, D.Va, Junkrat; a mix between neutral but more positive nonetheless, Kiriko, Lucio, Lifeweaver, Illari, Mei, Mercy, Reinhardt, Sigma; same as Junkrat)
- Neutral, like, “Oh, cool, congrats Ig”: (Brigitte; a bit more positive but still neutral, Baptiste, Bastion, Cassidy, Echo, Genji, Hanzo, Junker Queen, Orisa, Symmetra, Torbjorn, Solider 76, Roadhog, Sombra, Sojourn, Winston, Zarya, and Zenyatta: same as Brigitte but a bit more happy)
- Then the negative, the “I don’t need to know about about that you keep that to yourself”: (Ashe, Doomfist, Moira; sassy about it, Mauga; He’s like an annoying older brother that is constantly trying to embarrass their younger sibling— That sibling rivalry between him and Venture is wildddd, Reaper, Ramattra; a bit more neutral, Wrecking Ball; Blunt and mean about it too lmao, Widowmaker; graduated with her master’s degree in the art of being a hater).
(FINALLY! On the last scheduled headcanon post! Yippeee! Hopefully I’ll now be able to get some requests from y’all now that I’m done with this last one!)

THURSDAY HERO: Armin Wegner
Tumblr media
Armenian refugees photographed by Armin Wegner, 1915
Armin Wegner was a German soldier stationed in the Ottoman Empire during World War I who was  witness to the Armenian Genocide. Disobeying orders, he gathered extensive documentation and took hundreds of photographs of atrocities committed against Armenians. Later, Armin became a fearless peace activist who was imprisoned for standing up to Hitler.
Armin was born in 1886 to an aristocratic Prussian family in the Rhineland area of Germany. He was educated at schools in Poland and Switzerland, and was a gifted poet, publishing his first volume of poetry, “I Have Never Been Older than as a Sixteen-year-old” as a teenager. He attended law school, but had the soul of an artist and spent the next couple of years (in his own words) as a “farmer, dock-worker, student of drama (with Max Reinhardt), private tutor, editor, public speaker, lover and idler, filled with a deep desire for unraveling the mystery of things.”
When World War I broke out in 1914, Armin joined the German army, serving as a medic in Poland. He received the Iron Cross for rendering care under fire. Armin rose to rank of second lieutenant in the German Sanitary Corps and was sent to the Middle East as part of a detachment to assist the Ottoman Army.
Stationed along the Baghdad Railway in Syria and modern-day Iraq, Armin was shocked to witness thousands of emaciated Armenian refugees forced onto death marches by the Ottomans. The horrifying reality of what was happening was being hidden, and Armin was ordered to keep quiet about what he saw as Germany did not want to alienate the Ottoman Empire, an important ally. Disobeying what he felt was a deeply unjust order, Armin went to great effort to collect proof about the systematic massacre of Armenians – the first modern genocide. Armin was willing to risk his life to document what was happening, and his extensive photographic record remains the most important evidence of the atrocities that occurred.
The Ottomans eventually found out what Armin was doing, and he was arrested by the Germans and sent back to Germany. Some of his photographs were destroyed, but he was able to smuggle out many negatives hidden in his belt.
After the war, Armin became a successful journalist and prominent anti-war activist. In 1919 he published an “Open Letter to President Woodrow Wilson” urging the peace conference to create an independent Armenian state.
He wrote extensively about the Armenian Genocide and testified in court at the trial of Soghomon Tehlirian, an Armenian who killed Talat Pasha, the Ottoman leader who orchestrated the atrocity. Armin’s testimony was so powerful that the court could not convict Tehirian for the assassination, even though there were many eyewitnesses. He was found not guilty for reason of temporary insanity.
Armin was a respected writer and cultural figure who co-created the German Expressionist movement in the mid-1920’s. After visiting the Soviet Union, including the Soviet Socialist Republic of Armenia with his wife, author Lola Landau, Armin wrote a book about his trip, which became a bestseller. It was a chilling account of the political violence endemic to Soviet Communist rule. At a time when many in the West were romanticizing the Bolsheviks, Armin was one of the few who could see where the situation was headed: totalitarian Stalinism.
Meanwhile in Germany, Hitler and the Nazi power gained power and in 1933 they urged a nationwide boycott of Jewish businesses. As someone who witnessed the Armenian Genocide and had many Jewish friends, Armin could not remain silent. He wrote an open letter to Adolf Hitler identifying himself as a proud Prussian who could trace his roots in Germany back to the time of the Crusades. In clear language he told Hitler that his persecution of Germany’s Jews would destroy the country. “There is no Fatherland without justice!” he said. Armin was the only writer to speak out publicly against Hitler. Swiftly, he was arrested by the Gestapo, tortured and imprisoned in harsh conditions for a year. In 1934 Armin was released, and immediately fled to Rome, where he changed his name and lived in hiding. His wife divorced him, leading Armin to later say, “Germany took everything from me… even my wife.” He never returned to his beloved homeland. For being the only cultural figure in Germany to speak out for the Jews, Israeli Holocaust Memorial Yad Vashem honored Armin Wegner as Righteous Among the Nations in 1967.
Armin died alone in Rome in 1978, at age 92. Per his request, his gravestone contains a quote from Pope Gregory VII as he lay on his deathbed in 1085: “I loved justice and hated injustice/Therefore I die in exile.”
For bravely documenting the Armenian Genocide, and standing up to Hitler at great personal sacrifice, we honor Armin Wegner as this week’s Thursday Hero.

Christopher Lee at the Saints Cyril and Methodius Cathedral during the making of The Howling II:
Tumblr media
The watermark is super tacky, I know, but this comes from the now-defunct official Lee website and I couldn't find this picture anywhere else. Thanks to @christopherleefan for saving a bunch of these rare photos that might have been lost otherwise! I'll be posting more photos from the site soon.
Anyway, according to this Czech Lord of the Rings fansite from the early 2000's, there was this photographer (who is unnamed in the article but who might have taken this picture) who was asked by Lee to show him the cathedral where the assassins of Reinhardt Heydrich and many other rebels were cornered and were either killed or took their own lives.
According to this photographer, when Lee entered the cathedral, he became very quiet. As they went into the crypt where the rebels died, Lee prayed for them for about five minutes. Afterward, Lee allegedly confessed to being involved in planning the assassination of Heydrich.
The author of the LOTR website, or at least the person who wrote this particular page, sent Lee a letter asking him if this was true. Lee responded by denying any involvement with Operation Anthropoid, but he said he was in Dorking, where the Czechs were being trained, around the same time.
But then, soon after Lee died, Philippe Mora, the director of Howling II, also claimed that Lee told him about his supposed involvement in Heydrich's death. So we have two different people speaking different languages saying that Lee privately told them about Heydrich over a decade apart from each other. Make of that what you will... Operation Anthropoid coincidentally happened on Lee's 20th birthday, and I believe he was in the RAF by then.

Knight Dragoon ranking
Tumblr media
(continuation from here )
Disclaimer: Fanon mixed with canon. Also I am not an expert in military rankings. All is subject to change. Assume nothing, deny everything, make counteraccuasations.
FORWARD.
-------
CURRENT HIERARCHY (in order of top to bottom):
Azure Dragoon (now technically defunct title)/First Lance -> Second Lance -> Third Lance
(...what? Seriously do you think this lot pausing long enough to think up fancy titles?)
House Captain (x4)
[insert ranks for dragoon dragon flight corps here, the collective dragoon braincell is working very hard on it at the moment the DVD logo just hasn't hit the corner yet and the current holder of the braincell is off fucking his friend in Tural it's fine]
Commander -> Lieutenant -> Sergeant -> Corporal -> Private -> Hatchling (derogatory)
Fighting tournaments are still held every so often for promotions, and anyone of any rank, including First Lance, can be challenged to a duel. The winner can take the rank of the loser.
Anyone can be called a hatchling. Just know the response might be an ass-whuppin'.
OF NOTE:
The First Brood is seen in an advisory capacity and hold a position equal to and a little higher than the First Lance.
There is also a old position of Journeyman, which is a Knight Dragoon that has been given special permission to travel outside of Coerthas. Their duty is to bring back knowledge that may be useful to the Order. Two dragoons currently hold this status, Reinhardt Sauveterre and Estinien Varlienau (in absentia)
Journeyman can be shared with any other rank save for the Lances.

Peter Lorre Portraits by Lotte Jacobi
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This page has a full shot of that top pic!
Tumblr media
Caption: "Member of the Reinhardt-Bühnen," referring to the privately run theatres under the direction of Max Reinhardt.
Lorre's expression in the pic with the hat mesmerizes every time I see it. He manages to look young and world-weary at the same time.
Now I could be wrong, but I believe the very top two pics that start off this post are from the same photoshoot. I've always thought the second one was weirdly chopped off on all sides, like there should be more of Peter to see (sometimes you see a smidgen more of his tie, but that's about it). At the very least, surely Jacobi would have framed it differently even if she had zoomed in on his face.
The pic with Peter in the adorable wig (and the "You can't trust me, but we'll have fun" expression) is from his role as Louis Antoine Leon de Saint-Just in "Dantons Tod" (Danton’s Death), 1929.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Peter is at the top of the crowd next to Walter Franck as Robespierre.
Here's my original post about Peter as Saint-Just.

Note
Please I ask for a yandere alphabet Reinhardt (Overwatch)???
Sure! I love this man too ^^
Yandere Alphabet - Reinhardt Wilhelm
Pairing: Romantic
Possible Trigger Warnings: Gender-Neutral Darling, Obsession, Overprotective behavior, Manipulation implied, Kidnapping, Degrading behavior (Spanking as punishment), Violence, Jealousy, Isolation, Dubious affection, Dubious relationship.
Tumblr media
Affection: How do they show their love and affection? How intense would it get?
Reinhardt is an honorable, honest, and jovial character. He is a protector at heart and would be intense in the sense that he's overbearing. Reinhardt would want to smother his darling lovingly with his affection.
He loves you, he'd do anything for you, he wants to be your shield.
Blood: How messy are they willing to get when it comes to their darling?
Reinhardt strays away from murder. His younger self might have beat up someone the moment they approached you. However, nowadays he saves it for when you could be in danger.
But that doesn't change the fact he still has to try and suppress the urge of using violence to isolate you from others.
Cruelty: How would they treat their darling once abducted? Would they mock them?
He would treat you like you could break. Similar to Zarya, he's a strong character. When he has you in his care he doesn't want to mock you.
If anything he wants to provide and care for you. He wants to hold you and pamper you in affection. He means well with his love for you… but he isn't showing it right.
Darling: Aside from abduction, would they do anything against their darling’s will?
He tries not to.
Exposed: How much of their heart do they bare to their darling? How vulnerable are they when it comes to their darling?
I feel Reinhardt is very open with you. He can let his guard down around you in private and tries not to lie to you. He wants to be honest with his feelings towards you.
Fight: How would they feel if their darling fought back?
Disappointed yet tries to work things out. He tries to calm you down knowing you can't hurt him. Afterwards he scolds you but offers to talk things out with you.
Will that make you feel better?
Game: Is this a game to them? How much would they enjoy watching their darling try to escape?
No and he doesn't.
Hell: What would be their darling’s worst experience with them?
When it comes to Reinhardt there isn't many. I feel one of the worst experiences would be him snapping and confronting someone too close to you.
Reinhardt may still have a temper to him so he'd start with arguing… but might start getting violent if he felt someone was trying to take you from him.
Ideals: What kind of future do they have in mind for/with their darling?
Reinhardt wants to provide for you. He wants you to stay at home and wait for him. He wants to be your shield and please you in any way he can.
As long as you stay home and safe… he's happy.
Jealousy: Do they get jealous? Do they lash out or find a way to cope?
A little but he tries to cope. Younger him might lash out but not his current self… much.
Kisses: How do they act around or with their darling?
Very affectionate and nearly smothering. He tries to be careful as he doesn't want to hurt you. Yet he sticks closely around you and maybe even carries you around due to his strength.
He'd kiss you, hug you, and treat you like his cute hopefully spouse. He'd be incredibly protective of you, too.
Love letters: How would they go about courting or approaching their darling?
Reinhardt seems like he'd be very traditional. He compliments you, he flirts with you, he acts like a gentleman to “court” you. Reinhardt would start with being your friend then try to go from there.
He seems like he'd hide his yandere tendencies then reveal them when it's too late for you to leave
Mask: Are their true colors drastically different from the way they act around everyone else?
A little, not by much though.
Naughty: How would they punish their darling?
Reinhardt wouldn't want to punish you… but I have a feeling he's probably into spanking and scolding? Not sure why but it just seems like he'd treat you like a brat.
Oppression: How many rights would they take away from their darling?
He tries not to take many unless he has to.
Patience: How patient are they with their darling?
Surprisingly patient.
Quit: If their darling dies, leaves, or successfully escapes, would they ever be able to move on?
He probably could not move on from you, you're his true love… how could he?
Regret: Would they ever feel guilty about abducting their darling? Would they ever let their darling go?
A little and maybe.
Stigma: What brought about this side of them (childhood, curiosity, etc)?
Unsure, maybe curiosity?
Tears: How do they feel about seeing their darling scream, cry, and/or isolate themselves?
Reinhardt immediately goes to comfort you. You may try to push him away but he just scoots closer. He wants you happy… he feels he can make you happy.
You just have to let him.
Unique: Would they do anything different from the classic yandere?
Less likely to murder.
Vice: What weakness can their darling exploit in order to escape?
Giving genuine care and reciprocating before he snaps.
Wit’s end: Would they ever hurt their darling?
Not intentionally unless maybe for punishment, but even then not much. He hates doing it.
Xoanon: How much would they revere or worship their darling? To what length would they go to win their darling over?
Praises you a ton. He would go to great lengths to be with you. Probably also a body worship kind of guy for both of you.
Yearn: How long do they pine after their darling before they snap?
Months to maybe years.
Zenith: Would they ever break their darling?
Not intentionally.

The Archer.
Part 01
Hanzo Shimada X Y/N
Tumblr media
Before you joined Overwatch, you were a medical soldier on the battlefield. You have seen countless life and death, you have also seen many people wandering between life and death. You cherish all life very much, because you know how simple the result of life and death is. Then Overwatch discovered your talent and invited you to be a medical doctor.
Overwatch Headquarters Base———
"Stop!Dva! You still need to take medicine if your fever has not completely subsided!" You chase Dva and shout.
"I don't want it! That's so bitter!" Dva runs fast.
"You are not allowed to run around in the corridor!" Jack shouted.
You immediately stop and stand still for fear of pissing off Jack.
"Because Dva want to go back her room to play games without taking medicine." You say.
"Dva didn't take the medicine?" Jack wondered.
"Yes, she didn't eat, that's why I ran after her..." You noticed that Dva slipped away quietly, you ignored Jack and rushed straight to chase Dva. "Come back! Dva!"
"Don't chase after me again!" Dva run.
Since Hanzo officially joined on the first day today, Genji is introducing him to the headquarters base. They suddenly heard a noise.
"Why is it so noisy?" Hanzo said.
"I don't know either." Genji said.
At this time, Dva ran to the direction of Genji and Hanzo.
"Genji! Catch Dva!" You shout. Genji subconsciously grabbed Dva's hand to prevent her from escaping.
"Genji, you traitor! I won't help you play games anymore!" Dva nonsense.
"I'm really sorry." Genji apologized.
"Genji, don't apologize if you're right. Dva, you... You are the tank hero in the team. What if you need to come out at the critical moment and you get sick again? You speak patiently.
"I know! I'll eat it..." Dva take medicine.
"Y/N You're so horrible. You're not so fierce at ordinary times." Dva whispered.
"If you take medicine and don't lose your temper, I will treat you gently." You said with a smile.
"You are so awesome that you can catch up Dva." Genji admires it.
"Of course, don't underestimate me as a medical soldier. It's not a day to chase patients." You say.
You noticed a man you didn't know standing behind Genji in Japanese-style clothes and a conspicuous tattoo on his left shoulder. You find that there is a slight cut in his finger, and you reach out to touch him. He took two steps back to keep a distance from you and pulled up his bow to prepare for the attack posture.
"What do you want to do?" Hanzo is vigilant.
"Brother, Y/N is our new medical soldier." Genji comforted him.
"Genji, is he your brother?" You are confused.
"That's right. Sorry, he didn't know you, so he was wary of you. " Genji bowed and apologized.
"It doesn't matter to me. I'm used to it. Ermmm, Genji's brother, remember to bandage your fingers. If you pull the bow again, the wound will crack." Leave when you're done.
"Y/N is so cool! How can she be so calm? The legendary special medical soldiers." Dva said.
"Brother, you must apologize to Y/N. It's too rude to suddenly pull the bow and point it at the person." Genji said.
"She suddenly stretched out her hand. I didn't know if she wanted to see my wound." Hanzo said indifferently.
"Hanzo, you are so stubborn." Dva said.
"What did you say?" Hanzo asked.
"Nothing!" Dva ran away.
"I'll continue to introduce the headquarters base to you first, and think about how to apologize later." Genji comforted him.
You go back to the infirmary——
"Dva took the medicine?" Mercy asked worriedly.
"She is finally willing to eat it. I've been chasing her for a long time." You sit in the chair and say.
"Hahaha, you two really have fun. You two always fight together." Mercy said with a laugh.
" Although we are comrades-in-arms, we are also good friends in private." You answer.
"By the way, can you help me go to the training ground to check Reinhardt's bandage? I have to go on a rescue mission." Mercy asked.
"Let me take care of it. The bandage..." You think of Hanzo.
"What's wrong with the bandage?" Mercy asked.
"It's okay! I'll go to Reinhardt first." You leave the infirmary.
You arrived at the training ground--
"You'd better have a good rest, Reinhardt." Lucio said.
"Yes, Reinhardt, you need a good rest." Mei shouted.
"Hahahaha! I'm all right! It's just a minor injury!" Reinhardt said with a smile.
While looking for Reinhardt, you saw Genji and his brother. They noticed you, Genji greeted you and you waved to them. At this moment, you saw Reinhardt wrapped in a bandage waving his hammer. You remember that he needs to rest for a time because the wound has not fully recovered. You shouted in the direction of Reinhardt in anger.
"Put down the warhammer!" You shouted.
The training ground fell into a calm...
"Y/N! You're finally here." Mei and Lucio said at the same time.
"Oh Shit!" Reinhardt immediately put down the warhammer.
You noticed that Genji and Hanzo looked at you with a surprised expression. You ignored them and shouted in front of Reinhardt.
"What is a minor injury? The wound is cracked and sutured again! Do you know how much it takes to sew a wound?! Great hero!" You shouted.
"Okoy, I got it. Calm down..." Reinhardt said in a panic.
"Calm down?! How do you want me to calm down? Patients should rest and don't splash here!" You shouted.
At this time, Lucio and Mei ran behind Hanzo to hide.
"Y/N is so strong that she even dares to roar at Reinhardt." Mei said.
"I didn't expect to see Y/N vs Reinhardt with my own eyes." Genji said.
"How do I feel that there are flames around Y/N?" Lucio said.
"Why are you two hiding behind me?" Hanzo looked at both of them.
"I know. I'm going to rest right now!" Reinhardt said nervously.
"Very good. Mercy told me to give you a new bandage. If I find out where you are waving the hammer again, I will never have mercy. "You said calmly.
"Ok!" Reinhardt took the bandage and left the training ground.
"Ana is not here, and he is messing around like this." You sighed and said.
You turned your head and found Genji, Genji's brother, Mei and Lucio standing in the distance and looking at you. You put your hands into the pockets of your coat and remember the bandages and disinfectant you took in the infirmary. Take a deep breath calm down and walk to them.
"Hello, excuse me for a moment." You said it.
The four of them looked at you doubtfully.
You pull Hanzo's hand over before he reacts. You put the disinfectant water and bandage on the palm of his hand, then turn around and leave.
"This is..." Hanzo was surprised to see you hand him disinfectant and bandages.
"Bandages and disinfectant?" Mei and Lucio asked.
"Look, brother. Y/N is not malicious. " Genji persuaded him.
Hanzo saw the disinfectant water and bandage you handed him into meditation. He obviously did too much to you, but you are concerned about his injury. He put disinfectant water and bandages in his pocket.
After you leave the training ground, go back to the infirmary to rest.
"He should hate me, I suddenly handed it to him. What if he throws it away directly? Haizzz... If he hates it, just hate it. Blame yourself for being too much trouble." You lie on the table and worry.
"Y/N, please go to the emergency room immediately! Repeat! Y/N, please go to the emergency room immediately!" Athena report.
You immediately got up and ran to the emergency room.
"What's going on?" You gasped and said.
"Cassidy was hit by a bullet, there was a hemostasis on the way back." Brigitte said in a panic.
"Understood. I will treat him now, you can help me arrange a bed for Cassidy." You go into the emergency room immediately.
"Yes." Brigitte immediately ran to prepare the bed.
After you have prepared medical supplies, start treating Cassidy. Although he avoided the fatal part, you still had a scan just in case. A few hours passed by little, and the treatment was over. You arrange Brigitte and Lucio to escort Cassidy to the ward for rest.
You completely disinfect the emergency room before you leave. You go to the lounge to find a seat and sit down.
"Huuuu ~ as long as it's okay." You close your eyes and whisper.
There was a knock on the door. You open your eyes and see Hanzo holding a bottle of tea.
"Hi, Genji's brother." You said.
" Hanzo. Hanzo Shimada. " Hanzo said.
"Oh... Hello, Hanzo. Are you coming to have a rest, too?" You asked.
"No, I'm here..." Hanzo whispered.
"Have a seat then we talk," you said with a smile.
"Okay." Hanzo sits next to you.
"What should I do? It's strange. He has less to say than Genji." You think.
"I'm sorry... and thank you." Hanzo said.
"Ah? Why do you apologize and thank again? " You are surprised.
"I obviously did something too much to you, but you still care about my injury." Hanzo whispered.
"Oh...what happened just now? I don't mind. I also want to apologize to you for suddenly doing something rude to you. " You comfort him.
"You're right, it's my fault." Hanzo said indifferently.
"Hanzo Shimada, we are even. So don't divide right and wrong again, okay?" You said with a smile.
"Ah... okay. By the way, you can take this tea and drink it. " Hanzo said.
"Did you send it to me specially? Thank you, Hanzo!" You said happily.
"You're welcome, Dr.Y/N." Hanzo said.
"Y/N is fine." You said with a smile.
"Okay Y/N." Hanzo smiled.
Your stomach is rumbling, you cover your stomach and look to the other side shyly.Hanzo looked at you doubtfully.
"Y/N, are you hungry?" Hanzo asked.
"Yes, I forgot to eat lunch." You answered shyly.
"Do you want to have dinner together?" Hanzo asked.
"Ok! Let's go!" You get up and go immediately.
You leave the lounge with Hanzo and go to the cafeteria.
"Hanzo, are you an archer?" You are curious.
"That's right." Hanzo replied.
You two are in silence--
"My God, I thought it would be more topical when I got to know each other. The result is still the same." You think awkwardly.
"Umm Hanzo, why did you join Overwatch?" You asked curiously.
"It's kind of making up for Genji..." Hanzo whispered.
"I seem to have asked questions that should not be asked!" You think.
"I'm so hungry ~I'm really hungry~" You laugh and hum.
"Will arrive soon." Hanzo said.
"Yes!" You said with a smile.
Arrived at the cafeteria——
"Hi, brother, Y/N." Genji waved his hand and said.
"Hi." Hanzo said.
"Hello, Genji~" you said with a smile.
"Did my brother apologize to you?" Genji asked in a low voice.
"That's right. He is unexpectedly very serious about things." You say it quietly.
"What are you talking about?" Hanzo stood behind you and asked.
"Nothing! I'm going to find Dva first! Bye-bye! " You
left nervously.
"Wait a minute, Y/N..." Hanzo whispered.
Hanzo's hand is holding the disinfectant and bandage you gave him in his pocket. He wanted to ask you to wrap him up, but he couldn't open his mouth.
"Dva ah Dva ah, do you eat porridge?" You sit down and ask.
"Yes, I will eat snacks when I get better. You have to eat with me then!" Dva said with a laugh.
"Oh, no problem. It's your treat." You say.
"You've gone too far!" Dva said.
"Who told you not to take medicine and want to run away?" You said it mischieously.
"Oh! Oh, by the way, how are you getting along with Hanzo? " Dva asked quietly.
"Ermmm, to be honest, we don't know each other, so we don't have a common topic. But he is a good person, but I just feel that he is a little slow." You whispered.
"So that's it. That's right! Let's have a welcome party to welcome Hanzo join Overwatch!" Dva said excitedly.
"When you get well, we will invite him then." You said with a smile.
Part 01 The End.

Cassandra dies but is returned to life by Sidony with the help of Alanari. Aminah is revealed to Cassandra as a prophet. Cassandra initially rejects her, but after divine intervention, she becomes her champion. They are revealed to Nevarra as such. Divine Victoria secretly convinces Cassandra to commit her Seekers to the hunt for Solas. They also privately coordinate to prevent an Exalted March while publicly remaining on bad terms.
9:49 — 46 — Vestalus dies but not before blowing the whistle on Markus being undead, puppeted by the Mortalitasi. This sparks controversy on whether the dead can rule or a new dynasty should be declared. Cassandra and the Divine work harder than ever to avert an Exalted March, particularly as Aminah's popularity grows.
9:52 — 49 — The Sixth Blight sweeps across Thedas. Cassandra steps up to unite Orlais, Ferelden, Nevarra, and other groups against the Blight. She coordinates with Rook to aid them in their fight against the Evanuris as much as possible.
9:53 — 50 — Anatolius Reinhardt, a dark horse candidate for the throne, comes to accept Aminah as a prophet. When he succeeds as monarch, he adopts the Nevarran Orthodox Chantry as their official religion. Cassandra becomes one of the faces of this new Chantry but still hopes to avert all-out war with the Chantry of Andraste.

I have been writing! There is so much inspiration out there, and my life has been - surprisingly? - going so well lately! I just want to finish some fics before I go on holiday (Netherlands and Belgium) in two weeks.
So, what's in store? Please note that the names are not the real names, they are the names of the files I write the fics in (yes, I am no longer writing directly in drafts of AO3, it was a bit too brave and backfired a couple of times)
Daddy A in the army - this one is taking forever because it is....tough. I got the Zinky Boys book from my local library, and I will probably have to go through that for some more inspiration
His uncle was more pragmatic. “God helps those who help themselves," he said when Roman Arkadyevich brought up the topic of young men returning from their two-year service with wives, kids, apartments, and a bumaga entitling them to vacation in Bulgaria.  With that in mind, Roman Arkadyevich bought the three lucky packets of cigarettes; ready to meet Lady Luck halfway. Naturally, his packets of cigarettes were confiscated on the first day.
Pippo's wedding - this should be a short lemon-y smut because we all know the Inzaghis and we know what they are.
It’s not even ten in the morning and Simone is on his second glass of wine - it’s not a big deal, everyone around the house has already had something, right after their morning coffees, toasting to the groom’s health and happiness, but Simone stayed sober throughout the season, pedantic and precise as ever, wanting to always keep his mind clear throughout the season. Now even the small amount of alcohol, combined with the heavy humid air before the rain that was forecasted for the day, made his head swim.
Numa numa iei - because what's not to love about random EURO pairing
“Nikoushek.” Now he’s mocking him. Nikoushek is a specific memory that not everyone knew about. “Nikoushku,” he corrects him, burying his fingers in the dark roots of his hair. He wishes Adrian kept it longer, all over his head, and didn’t shave the area around his ears and nape. “You use the vocative case when addressing someone.” “Vocative case, what is that. Nikoushku,” Adrian repeats, and his eyes shine brighter than before. “I can’t even speak Romanian properly,” he jokes, before laying his head down on his captain’s bare chest. He can’t resist, and places a quick peck on the skin. He likes the contrast between the bare, hairless chest and the arms covered in tattoos of significant memories from Nicolae’s eventful life. The arms are for the world to see, to learn Nico’s birth date, see the image of his grandmother, admire the colors of the flag, read the names of his children, and get to know the sources of his motivation, Biblical, fictional, inspirational – but the chest is only for him to see.
Juicy - finally putting on "paper" the food kink Ange/Poch fic that celebrates juiciness in all forms, good food, loving good food, loving yourself, and all the good summer Greek-Aussie-and-Argentine stereotypes together.
Juicy. He couldn’t think of a better word. There was so much under his skin - so much to touch and knead and hold onto and rub - and the excess of everything about Ange, his body, his hair, his deep voice, the smile that usually played in the corner of his lip, it all filled Mauricio’s head with a soothing sense that everything will be alright.
Lentemente - it is called this because of the Django Reinhardt song Lentemente mademoiselle, no idea *why* though. It's the Unai x Andoni bookstore!librarian!AU, it's fun and sweet and soft and pointless
“I’m sorry – I noticed you have been standing here with this specific book – “ He quickly glanced at the book’s cover, just to quench his private and nosy curiosity over the book that seemed to have captured the customer’s full attention. It looked like one of those cheap paperbacks dedicated to sensationalistic retelling of history, politics, or anything else – but the cover was nicely done in a clean, aesthetically pleasing way, showing a traditional house façade. Que disent les maisons basques? He had to smile; it didn’t seem like the most thrilling read. “ – and there is a line outside,” he finished his sentence, trying not to seem too judgemental of the book of choice. He made some calculations in his head already – he’d never seen anyone even just remotely interested in buying this book, and he certainly never sold a single copy of it. It was one of those volumes that was always there during the physical inventory and yet Andoni wanted to keep it – if nothing else, it had a nice cover and looked professionally made, which wasn’t the case for some of the faster-selling ones. It was a French-language book, which added a sense of internationalism – and it concerned a local theme, the traditional inscriptions on the lintels of rural houses. It was exactly the kind of book he liked to keep in the shop, even if it wasn’t selling well – it added a sense of rootedness to the place.

This is the most wild story I've heard about Christopher Lee jfc... (full thing here)
Tumblr media
"He told me he personally arrested SS Chief Kaltenbrunner and other Nazis after the war. He said he was present at some of the Nuremberg trials and helped the hangman.
[...]
"When we made Howling 2 in Communist controlled Prague I flew into that city with Christopher. As we landed I saw a military welcoming committee out the window and wondered aloud who that could be for? “That’s for me,” said Chistopher, “I’m a hero here. I was involved in the assassination of SS Chief Reinhardt Heydrich.”"
I had heard about the Reinhardt Heydrich part of the story before, but not the fucking "helped the hangman of the Nuremberg Trials" part???????
Some context: The person writing this is a director and documentarian named Philippe Mora. Christopher Lee was normally very tight-lipped about the secret parts of whatever he did during WWII, but during the making of The Howling II: Your Sister is a Werewolf, Lee explained to Mora about what had happened with Heydrich. Mora said in another interview that he thought Lee was exaggerating until he went to Lee's apartment afterward (I think in the 90's), saying:
"He had a room full of memorabilia from the Nazis he’d been involved in arresting. When they arrest them, they rip off their insignia and Christopher collected those."
Wow. What an interesting story. I'd love to believe it. Really, I would. I would love if the phrase "hangman of Nazis" were added to the long list of awesome things he did, and people would keep making very clever jokes about Lee being the main character of real life.
There's just one problem: Four years before the making of The Howling II, Lee did an interview for the January 1981 issue of WET Magazine (speaking with the writer Ann Bardach) where several of his answers to the questions directly contradict what Mora claims Lee told him. He said of his own work:
Lee: We had nothing to do with the major war criminals, though. We were after anybody, anybody who was on a list we were given.
Bardach: How many people were on the list?
Lee: The figures were enormous. There were literally thousands of people arrested. I think out of that number, only some-thing like 150 were executed, actually.
Bardach: Executed where? At Nuremberg?
Lee: I had nothing to do with that. The Nuremberg executions were carried out by an American hangman, a master sergeant named John Woods of San Antonio, Texas. We operated wherever we were told to go.
Also, as for whether or not Lee was at the very least present for the Nuremberg Trials, he didn't say either way, but claimed to have been present for more than 50 executions during his service.
Okay, so there's four possibilities here. A. Lee lied to Bardach but told Mora the truth (or at least a partial truth). B. Lee told Bardach the truth but lied to Mora. C. Mora is the one who's making shit up. D. Some parts of Mora's story might be true, and other parts might not be.
I will concede that it's a tad bit strange that Lee would specifically go "I HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH NUREMBERG" in the magazine when Bardach didn't ask him if he was involved with it or not. I suppose that if one were genuinely keeping secrets, especially of the clandestine government activity nature, you would be more likely to lie publicly in something that could be viewed by many people than in a one-on-one private conversation with somebody.
If the story about the military greeting at the airport is true and was definitely for Lee, it would lend more credence to the idea that he was more than a simple pencil-pusher. But if Lee DID lie to Mora, it would be such a spectacular dick move that I wouldn't like him anymore, lol.
As for Mora, if you're wondering why Lee would allegedly partially spill the beans to the director of The Howling II: Your Sister is a Werewolf, of all people, it's because Mora has made some well-regarded documentaries in the past. As I understand it, his documentary Swastika in particular was a pretty big deal at the time for showing a more mundane side of Hitler, Goebbels, Georing, etc. with footage that had never been widely seen before and demonstrating that they are all too human. Lee apparently respected these documentaries and had previously befriended Mora during their previous collaboration, Captain Invincible.
However, it's not really helping Mora's case that he seems to get some details wrong or inconsistent during his recollections. For example, in his interviews with the sites Oregon Artswatch as well as Bloody Disgusting, he says Lee told him he assisted the executioner Albert Pierrepoint in the hanging of Ernst Kaltenbrunner, when Pierrepoint didn't have anything to do with Nuremberg and it was John Woods and Joseph Malta who carried out those executions, with Lee mentioning the former by name in that WET Magazine interview. Get your facts straight, Mora, that's a pretty big one to mess up... Maybe since he's getting pretty old, he mixed up executioners... on two separate occasions...
The whole "Lee was the assistant hangman at Nuremberg" part is where my suspension of disbelief about all his shenanigans is really breaking. How on Earth would he be have been able to get involved? Did he just waltz into the execution room, say "Hey guys I was in Special Forces, I want to help you hang some Nazis :D" and they were like "Sure buddy, come on in, the more the merrier!"
I can believe that he could have been present for the actual trials, he hadn't started his acting career yet, so if he were in the audience, he wouldn't be making a scene, but directly participating in executions??? I'm gonna need more of a source than "trust me, bro". Also I'm gonna need more of a confirmation about Lee being involved with the planning of Heydrich's assassination.
Mora has actually recently been trying to make a documentary about this whole story called "Dracula: Nazi Hunter", (real classy title, Mora) so hopefully we'll see some hard evidence for these wild claims pretty soon. It's supposed to be a mix of historical footage and reenactments. In an interview with Fangoria from 2022, Mora said that the pandemic slowed things down and they were also having trouble finding somebody who could portray Lee in the recreations, and I don't know what the status of it is as of 2024. I say toss the reenactments and just give us the story, but you do whatever you want with your movie, I guess. Just bring the receipts, that's all I ask.
In the meantime, maybe somebody should play Where's Waldo/Wally with pictures of the Nuremberg Trials and the subsequent executions and see if they can find a certain tall fellow in his mid-20's who looks like this:

another way to die-- did you miss me?
SMUT LIES BENEATH THE CUT.
Brucemont was here.
Brucemont was here and he looked good and amazing and he was here, it wasn't another letter he was here he was here he was here— Sebastian swallowed. He needed to get a grip. Needed to focus. Breathe around the sudden hot coil of something inside him.
"What—what are you doing here?" He got out. Gods—how long had it been? A year? He was pretty certain it was a year. Or less than that? He didn't know, didn't really care, Brucemont was in front of him and he was alright, he was safe, he…looked whole.
"It's…I…" Brucemont struggled to form words, his throat bobbing. Unbidden, his feet moved—bringing him closer to Sebastian. His fingers itched, wanting to reach out and grab the gunbreaker's hand.
Think. He could think. He could speak.
"There's…everything's alright back home." He said, latching onto something of a coherent thought. "But—is there someplace private where we can talk?"
"Private?" Sebastian repeated. He couldn't tear his eyes away from the elezen. Brucemont was here, in front of him, graceful and lithe and he wanted to throw himself into his arms-he wanted to pull the dragoon into his arms and never let him go—
Get a grip!
"We have rooms. Down the way." Sebastian jerkily turned on one foot, gesturing. "F-follow me." He started to walk, Brucemont coming up alongside him. The Fo'ward Cabins suddenly seemed so very far away. And was it just him, or was it hotter than normal for the morning?
"How-how was your trip?" There. He sounded normal. Sebastian forced himself to smile, reaching a finger up to his neck to pull at his armor's collar. Brucemont's eyes immediately locked onto the movement—since when had Sebastian's armor become that formfitting?
"Enlightening. I've not been on a boat for quite some time. Unless you counted the ferries that used to run when Coerthas was still green." There. A full set of sentences. Gods he could smell Sebastian's scent again—gunpowder, smoke and the odd spicy strangeness that was his aether. A combination that was making his mouth water and his body harden.
No. No, no, no! He needed to focus.
"I see." To Sebastian, his voice sounded breathless, and he inhaled quickly. Mercifully, Brucemont had gone silent and was looking around, taking in the area.
"Do you know, this place might be more colorful than Thavnair? At least from what I've seen so far." He ventured.
"I wouldn't be surprised, though I think they're on par with both." To Sebastian's surprise, suddenly they were at the docks leading to the Fo'ward Cabins. Peshekwa and Bol Wuruq watched with avid curiosity as the gunbreaker led the dragoon past them.
"Here. My cabin's this way." He'd taken the third cabin. Reinhardt had the fourth, Mathye and Augustine were sharing the first, and Riven had taken the second. With butterflies and heat flaring in his gut, Sebastian fumbled about for his key, inserting it into the lock and opening the door. Brucemont entered behind him.
"T-Thank you." He said. Sebastian didn't immediately answer, locking the heavy wood. The click of the metal sounded…loud in the sudden silence. Too loud.
"Is…is this private enough?" He ventured, turning around. Brucemont nodded jerkily.
"It is." He let his eyes roam, taking in the tropical decor. Something to distract him from the raging need boiling just beneath his skin—here was Sebastian in front of him, it'd been months since he'd last touched him— Behind him, Sebastian forced himself to keep his hands by his sides.
"So…you've got the privacy you wanted." He began, trying to keep his voice light. But gods it was hard—he was very now acutely aware that it'd been months since he'd kissed Brucemont, months since they'd had sex, months of being lonely. And as if the Twelve had heard his prayer, here was the dragoon, looking like sin itself, in his rooms.
"Right. Privacy. I…I had asked for that." Brucemont swallowed thickly, turning around to set his bag down on a nearby seat.
"Has…you said everything was alright at home, but did something happen?"
"No! Well…sort of. But not in the way that you think." Merciful Halone, was he babbling?! He was babbling like a fucking idiot. Gritting his teeth, Brucemont turned on a heel to see Sebastian rest his gunblade on a nearby weaponrack, then turn to face him. The action reminded Brucemont that he still had his spear strapped to his back, he really should do something about it.
"Sorry." He muttered, starting to unbuckle the straps. He needed to think. Get his head right. He'd put up his weapon, then ask for Sebastian to call for Reinhardt and the others. Explain why he'd come to Tural, and hopefully start getting some answers for Aymeric. Brucemont felt the hyur's eyes linger on him as he went to rest the spear against the wall.
"I came straight from Ish—" Out of the corner of his eye Brucemont saw a blur of white. Half turning—he suddenly was shoved into the wall as Sebastian plastered himself against him, grabbing his collar. Heat blazed in the brunette's eyes as he yanked the elezen's head down, kissing him as passionately as he could…
And all rational thought fled Brucemont's mind. Heat and need exploded inside him, and his hands rose to snatch the front of Sebastian's armor, to keep him close. Sebastian's hands were moving, grabbing at his chest.
"Off." He panted as the elezen broke away to drag in a lungful of air. "Take it off. Now." He pawed at a buckle, moaning as the dragoon started to pull at the straps and fabric of his armor.
"Same for you." Brucemont growled. Sebastian pulled free, blindly stripping off his gauntlets and kicking free of his greaves. As he pulled off his doublet, Brucemont felt his mouth water. The Turali sun had given Sebastian's skin just the lightest tint of bronze, and it looked as if he'd muscled up even more. Freeing himself from his own chestpiece, Brucemont grabbed Sebastian, bending his head to devour his lips once again. Now his hands could roam freely-mapping the hyur's chest, arms, his back. Sebastian's hands were doing the same, callused palms setting off levin-licks among Brucemont's nerves. For several moments the pair clung to each other, before Brucemont moved, forcing Sebastian to move with him. He didn't stop until the hyur's back hit the nearest wall.
Tumblr media
Sebastian gasped in shock, and Brucemont took advantage-capturing the other man's lips again in a kiss. The world had narrowed down to just the two of them, blissful silence interspersed by Sebastian's pants and low moans. A shudder overtook Sebastian as the quiet sank into his bones, and he tilted his head back as the elezen started to press kisses against his throat.
"Mmmm." He shuddered, eyelids fluttering as Brucemont continued the line of kisses over his neck. This close, the other man's scent was like a drug—dragonfire and whiskey, easing a craving that Sebastian had been doing his best to ignore for months. For the pleasure of it he ran his hands over Brucemont's torso and back, something inside him hitching at the low growl that came from the dragoon.
"Again." Brucemont demanded. "Touch me again, Sebastian." He'd missed his lover's hands, the soothing press of the palms over his skin, the firey rake of his fingernails. Sebastian obeyed, letting his fingers roam. He knew every inch of Brucemont's body, knew the exact map of every imperfection and scar. Slowly he let them dip lower, fingers running through the faint line of dark hair starting at Brucemont's waist.
"I said, all of it off." He panted, pulling at Brucemont's waistband. Then a cry escaped him as the dragoon growled, biting down firmly on the curve of his neck. Levin shot through Sebastian, pleasure and pain combining into one sensation that threatened to pull him under.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Helpless, he could only cling to the elezen as clever hands made quick work of his own pant ties, freeing him from confinement. Brucemont gently ran his tongue over the red marks he'd made, then bit down again, sucking at the skin. The fingers of one hand wrapped around Sebastian's length, squeezing just hard enough to make the gunbreaker moan.
"Brucemont!" No more levin, now it was fire. Fire and bliss and just a kiss of pain as Brucemont squeezed again, smiling into Sebastian's skin as his cock throbbed in his hands.
"Did you miss me?" He whispered, trailing kisses up to to Sebastian's ear. "It feels like you did." Precum made his fingers slick as he squeezed and stroked, pulling back to watch as the hyur arched against him, his hips bobbing in the air.
"Did you miss me?"
"I did." Sebastian gasped out. "I did-I did…Brucemont!" The levin-sparks were back, mixing with the fire to sting his skin and send waves of sensation through him. Every pass of Brucemont's hand was pleasure-pain, every stroke threatening to send him over the edge. Desperately Sebastian wrapped his arms around the elezen, digging his nails into Brucemont's back for some sort of anchor.
"Brucemont, please." He begged. He didn't care if it was too soon, he didn't care if it was quick—he needed more. More pleasure-pain. More of his lover's touch, his presence filling an empty void that like the other things about him, he'd tried to ignore for months. Brucemont groaned, bringing his lips back to capture Sebastian's own again.
"Touch me." He demanded inbetween kisses. "I want your hands on me." Then his eyes crossed as Sebastian obeyed—those clever fingers pushing his pants off his hips, greedily wrapping themselves around his own aching cock. He was hard to the point of pain and leaking but he didn't care, it'd been months—months of loneliness.
"There you go." He whispered, following up his encouragement by biting the hyur's lower lip. "Please me, Sebastian. Please me and I'll please you." A choked whimper escaped the brunette, a sound that the blue-haired elezen devoured greedily. Sebastian's fingers flexed and tightened, and Brucemont couldn't repress the moan that escaped him.
"Do it." He growled. For extra emphasis he tightened his own grip on Sebastian's cock, giving a long, slow stroke that resulted in a sob escaping the other man's throat and his body writhing, pinned between Brucemont and the wall. Pleasure bloomed up and down his spine as the gunbreaker obeyed, and soon there was no room, no Tural—no mission from Aymeric.
Just him and Sebastian.

Olivia de Havilland in The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938) by Truus, Bob & Jan too! Via Flickr: Spanish postcard by Sobe, no. 437. Olivia de Havilland in The Adventures of Robin Hood (Michael Curtiz, 1938). Japanese-born British-American actress Olivia de Havilland (1916-2020) had a career from 1935 to 1988. She appeared in 49 feature films and was one of the leading stars during the golden age of Classical Hollywood. She is best known for her early screen performances in The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938) and Gone with the Wind (1939), and her later award-winning performances in To Each His Own (1946), The Snake Pit (1948), and The Heiress (1949). Olivia de Havilland was 104! Olivia Mary de Havilland was born in 1916 in Tokyo, Japan, to British parents. Her mother was the former film and stage actress Lilian Fontaine (Lilian Augusta Ruse), and her father was an English professor and patent attorney, Walter Augustus de Havilland. He was the author of the 1910 book The ABC of Go, which provides a detailed and comprehensive description of the Japanese board game. Her sister, Joan, later to become famous as Joan Fontaine, was born the following year. Her surname comes from her paternal grandfather, whose family was from Guernsey in the Channel Islands. Her parents divorced when Olivia was just three years old, and she moved with her mother and sister to Saratoga, California. At her high school, she fell prey to the acting bug. She made her acting debut in amateur theatre in Alice in Wonderland. After graduating, Olivia enrolled in Mills College in Oakland, where she participated in the school play A Midsummer Night's Dream and was spotted by Austrian director Max Reinhardt. She so impressed Reinhardt that he picked her up for both his stage version and, later, the Warner Bros. film version in 1935. She again was so impressive that Warner executives signed her to a seven-year contract. No sooner had the ink dried on the contract than Olivia appeared in three more films: The Irish in Us (Lloyd Bacon, 1935) with James Cagney, Alibi Ike (Ray Enright, 1935), and Captain Blood (Michael Curtiz, 1935), with the man with whom her career would be most closely identified, heartthrob Errol Flynn. They acted together in seven more films: The Adventures of Robin Hood (Michael Curtiz, William Keighley, 1938), The Charge of the Light Brigade (Michael Curtiz, 1936), Four's a Crowd (Michael Curtiz, 1938), Dodge City (Michael Curtiz, 1939), The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex (Michael Curtiz, 1939), Santa Fe Trail (Michael Curtiz, 1940), and They Died with Their Boots On (Raoul Walsh, 1941). Both are also featured in a ninth film, Thank Your Lucky Stars (David Butler, 1943), although in separate scenes. Years later, she confessed that she had an intense crush on Errol Flynn during the years of their filming, saying that it was hard to resist his charms. Olivia de Havilland achieved her initial popularity in romantic comedy films, such as The Great Garrick (1937), directed by James Whale. In 1939 Warner Bros. loaned her to David O. Selznick for the classic Gone with the Wind (Victor Fleming, 1939). Playing the sweet Melanie Hamilton, Olivia received her first nomination for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, only to lose out to one of her co-stars in the film, Hattie McDaniel. After GWTW, Olivia returned to Warner Bros. and continued to churn out films. In 1941 she played Emmy Brown opposite Charles Boyer in Hold Back the Dawn (Mitchell Leisen, 1941), which resulted in her second Oscar nomination, this time for Best Actress. Again she lost, this time to her sister Joan Fontaine for her role in Suspicion (Alfred Hitchcock, 1941). Relations between the sisters were never strong and their mutual dislike and jealousy escalated into an all-out feud after Fontaine won the Oscar. Despite the fact that de Havilland went on to win two Academy Awards of her own, they remained estranged. In a rare act of reconciliation, Olivia and her sister Joan celebrated Christmas 1962 together along with their then-husbands and children. Denny Jackson at IMDb: "After that strong showing (in Hold Back the Dawn), Olivia now demanded better, more substantial roles than the "sweet young thing" slot into which Warners had been fitting her. The studio responded by placing her on a six-month suspension, all of the studios at the time operating under the policy that players were nothing more than property to do with as they saw fit. As if that weren't bad enough, when her contract with Warners was up, she was told that she would have to make up the time lost because of the suspension. Irate, she sued the studio, and for the length of the court battle, she didn't appear in a single film. The result, however, was worth it. In a landmark decision, the court said not only that de Havilland did not have to make up the time, but that all performers were to be limited to a seven-year contract that would include any suspensions handed down. This became known as the 'de Havilland decision'; no longer could studios treat their performers as mere cattle." Returning to screen in 1946, Olivia de Havilland made up for lost time by appearing in four films, one of which finally won her the Oscar that had so long eluded her. It was the romantic drama To Each His Own (Mitchell Leisen, 1946), in which she played Josephine Norris to the delight of critics and audiences alike. Olivia was the strongest performer in Hollywood for the balance of the 1940s. In 1948 she turned in another strong showing in The Snake Pit (Anatole Litvak, 1948) as Virginia Cunningham, a woman suffering a mental breakdown. The end result was another Oscar nomination for Best Actress, but she lost to Jane Wyman in Johnny Belinda (Jean Negulesco, 1948). As in the two previous years, she made only one film in 1949, but she again won a nomination and the Academy Award for Best Actress for The Heiress (William Wyler, 1949) with Montgomery Clift. After a three-year hiatus, de Havilland returned to star in My Cousin Rachel (Henry Koster, 1952) with Richard Burton. From that point on, she made few appearances on the screen but was seen on Broadway and in some television shows. In the cinema, she was seen in the romantic drama Light in the Piazza (Guy Green, 1962), and the psychological thriller Hush… Hush, Sweet Charlotte (Robert Aldrich, 1964) opposite Bette Davis. Her last screen appearance was as the Queen Mother in The Fifth Musketeer (Ken Annakin, 1979), and her final career appearance was in the TV movie The Woman He Loved (Charles Jarrott, 1988) about the love story between American divorcee Wallis Simpson and Edward VII. Olivia de Havilland married and divorced twice: her first husband was writer Marcus Goodrich (1946-1953) and her second writer-husband was Pierre Galante (1955-1979), an executive editor for the French journal Paris Match. With both husbands, she had a child. She lost her son, Benjamin Goodrich (1949), to Hodgkin's disease in 1991. With Galante, she had daughter Gisèle Galante (1956). The former couple remained close friends, and after Galante became ill with cancer, she nursed him until his death in 1998. Since the mid-1950s, she lived in Paris in France. In 1962, she showed flair as a writer with 'Every Frenchman Has One', a light-hearted autobiographical account of her attempts at adapting to French life. Two weeks before her 101st birthday, she was appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the 2017 Birthday Honours by Queen Elizabeth II for services to Drama. She is the oldest woman ever to receive the honour. In a statement, she called it "the most gratifying of birthday presents." Olivia de Havilland died of natural causes on 25 July 2020 at the age of 104. Sources: Denny Jackson (IMDb), Wikipedia, and IMDb. And, please check out our blog European Film Star Postcards.
