Rewatching all the Prince of Persia 2008 cutscenes with the titular Prince and Elika really made me realise how absolutely adorable their chemistry was
I’ve never before seen two characters that aren’t a couple yet act like they’ve just got married.
Just look at these interactions complied from these gifs:

And for good measure, here’s the twirling animation when they’re pole vaulting together 💖
This is so sweet, I love these two.
I really wish the Prince of Persia franchise would make more characters like them. They’re just great.

My thoughts exactly. We need a proper game with them having adventures and getting into trouble together and see them KISS GODDAMNIT
Hello there, it’s not a question but thank you for making Prince of Persia posts❤️ I really love that game and these two. They are so cute together and their relationship is heartwarming. I feel the same as you. PRINCE JUST LOVES ELIKA LIKE CRAZY AND WHY UBISOFT COULDN’T MAKE THE HAPPILY EVER AFTER ENDING
😂 listen, I love PoP08 with my whole entire heart and it is a CRIME that we never got a sequel (that DS game does not count and is garbage)

Well if there’s any character for consideration from Ubisoft games how about Elika the Ahura Princess from Prince of Persia 2008.
I think I did a Laserhawk design doodle of that character. I don’t feel particularly strong about her being in Rayman’s place but she seems like an interesting character from what I’ve looked into

THE BURIED KING is a novel touching on topics of segregation, alienation, survival of traumatic experiences and the ensuing struggles. The story follows Elika, a princess exiled from her kingdom. Follow her through spiritual guidance, reliving her past - and saving her kingdom. Her kingdom had been conquered and overthrown by the greedy evil fake heir. Many of her family have been executed, and her world is in chaos. Elika, however refuses to allow her people to be tortured, starved and her world destroyed.
Join her on her quest to find Ash and rally her supporters to reclaim the thrown to its proper heir. Follow as she encounters both treachery, deceit, and betrayal in people Elika once trusted and counted on in her royal life; while also learning and growing as she encounters loyalty, faithfulness, bravery and a strength in herself and others she never dreamed existed. This is a story of Elika’ journey encountering heartbreak, grief, betrayal, and yes even death. Along the way learning courage and integrity, honor and humility, and most of all experiencing the life style and true strength in her people… It is an amazing story that draws you in as if you are actually there experiencing every moment right beside Elika.

Wait, sorry, didn't read through the tags. The Prince from Prince of Persia?
How I feel about this character
I dont like a lot of badass dudebro characters cos most of them REEK of toxic masculinity and fratboy culture that makes me vomit, but Prince gives me Dante from DMC vibes and I like that. He's a witty, snarky yet upbeat guy who's been thrust into this world ending threat with a god of darkness cos he met and teamed up with a hot princess and is like 'alright, im game'. The Prince doesnt brood or get toxic to Elika when things dont go right, he's proactive, impulsive and reckless yet despite his nonchalant attitude, he really cares and it shows. He's a lot more expressive than most action hero protagonists, although that's due to Nolan North's voice acting and the facial animations.
What really seals it is his relationship with Elika. Despite only knowing her for like a day, he quickly grows attached to her. First, he's cynical about healing the fertile grounds just so he can get this over with and get out of here, but by like 2-3 levels, he really grows to care about Elika's struggles and wants to help her achieve her goal of resealing Ahriman. Even though they have differing views about the world, its clear they care about each other.
There's a whole bloody hour of dialogue in this game that is just them bonding which wraps up into the final choice of the game and I love it.
youtube
His devotion and love to Elika extends to the animation as well, from the two teaming up with their powers whilst fighting monsters to the little touches like when the Prince parkours and waits for Elika and holds her hand, or carries her as they scale up a cliff.
youtube
All the people I ship romantically with this character
I mean, come on. Its obvious.
My non-romantic OTP for this character
I think him and the Warrior King would be cute as a crack ship lol
My unpopular opinion about this character
Nothing, he's a perfect protagonist. If anything, HE should be the main character in the entire franchise, cos he's got the skill and personality of a PoP protagonist to a T
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.
I know the whole point is that the Prince is elusive and we're not supposed to learn about his backstory but he's such an interesting protagonist I WANT to learn more about him

[ 11. In search of sea life. For Tamina, please! :D ]
You survive the desert, but you live the sea.
Tumblr media
Like sand blown past the walls from the desert, travelers aren’t uncommon in Alamut. The city is a haven amidst the vast expanse surrounding them on all sides, with clear water, comfortable beds, and a friendly people pleased to help those in need of shelter.
Only slightly less common is finding the princess taking time to join the strangers to listen to their tales, stories of where they have been and where they are coming from. She has seen little beyond the walls of her kingdom, save for the trails leading to the ancient temple, the dagger’s home, and while she is content to stay in her palace, fulfilling her duties of protecting the Sands of Time, she finds that a part of her heart yearns to know what lies beyond. (It is a part of her heart she has learned to keep locked up and under control, refusing to give in to the cravings of adventure; she is better at it now than she was as a girl, yet still she dreams of it.)
Some tell simple stories of family and trading; others tell stories taller than she can believe are true. Some, though, fit in right where she dreams, and they talk so knowingly of where they have been and what they have seen, that it is easy to believe them. Easy to get lost in their words, entranced, eyes alight, lips parted slightly in anticipation.
The man is disheveled when he arrives in the city, the leather of his clothing wearing thin, skin battered by the winds and sands, hair matted beneath where it is trapped beneath his brightly colored scarves, material that tells far more than one might think. His smile is easy and his eyes are bright, and one look is enough to know that he has been places, he has seen things. He knows of the world. Though Tamina excels at composure, she cannot help but be drawn to the man and his stories - and oh, he has stories to tell!
Ancient tombs, oases, mountain temples; kings and peasants and everyone in between. He speaks intimately of people he has passed, the ones who left their mark on him, whether they knew it or not. A princess he holds dear in his memories, fondly, perhaps one he will return to.
He speaks of the sea, and Tamina has heard only of the concept, an abstract piece of imagery she cannot fully comprehend, and the man’s words are grand and beautiful, yet she still cannot grasp it. An endless expanse of not sand, but water; not scorpions and beetles and dry desert plants, but fish and coral and seashells. She might have dared to not believe him, but he produces a seashell from within the pouches scattered around him and tells her to hold it to her ear. ‘You can hear the ocean in it,’ he says, and she is entranced by the sound as she holds it to her ear. Closing her eyes, she imagines what the waves must look like washing up on the shore, what the water must feel like surging around her ankles, pulling her into their depths, enticing her into something new and unknown and beautiful.
Tumblr media
A tear slips down her cheek as she opens her eyes to look at the man. An adventurer, a teller of tales, drawing out the yearnings of her heart, and were she not so bound by her duties to her people, her kingdom, the gods, the Sands of Time, she might have found herself wanting to follow in his steps and trek alongside him to the ocean.

What was the most sad video game you have played that make you cry?.
Ooh, that's a tough one, thanks for the ask! :D The cookie one's coming too, do not worry, I'm just super overwhelmed by my job. I can only do small sketches lately.
Truth is, I'm a very emotional type of audience, I tend to live inside whatever story is presented through film, book or video game. So I quite often cry on almost any sad scene presented to me. This is also the same reason while I absolutely loath the grim dark genre, and avoid horror and thriller like the goddamn plague.
But one that was absolutely emotionally crushing was definitely Valiant Hearts - The Great War by Ubisoft. It pulls you in with its deceptively cartoonish style and non-threatening, sometimes even funny beginning. Back when nobody had imagined just how devastating WW1 would become. But as the game (and the war) progresses, it becomes worse and worse, and worse, until it finally ends not on the battlefield but very close to it. It builds on the stories, relics and objects of the developers' family members who had to live through that war. And it drives home the point very very strongly, in a way the Battlefield or Call of Duty series could never do so with their latest entries. I honestly wish schools employed video games as teaching mediums - this game would be in a top slot for my recommendations for that.
Another such massive emotional blow had been the ending of Prince of Persia 2008. Again, by Ubisoft. PoP 08 was one of those games far ahead of its time, and as such, it flopped hard. But it is a truly wonderful game and I can highly recommend it. Spoilers for the ending under the cut!
So throughout the whole game you, the unnamed Prince, work together with the princess Elika to defeat the God of Darkness, Ahriman's four henchmen and restore the god's prison within the Tree of Life and the lands around it. Their teamwork and relationship is actually much stronger than what most games generally present. It is so integrated into the story that it is a pivotal key moment and an actual solution to a certain boss fight in the game. By restoring the lands, you regrow the magical trees in the temple's courtyard which strengthen the Tree of Life.
Now... Elika's story is incredibly important here. Just before the game's start, she sacrificed herself to strengthen Ahriman's prison and was actually dead. Her father, however, the king of the land was broken by this loss, and instead of honoring her sacrifice, he made a pact with Ahriman, letting him out partially and allowing the god to corrupt him, in exchange for Elika's life. Realizing her father's decision, Elika flees into the desert, only to find you, the Prince, and embark on the mission once again to reseal Ahriman, knowing full well that she will die once again.
But she does it, regardless. At the credit roll, the Prince slowly carries Elika's lifeless body out of the temple and places her onto an altar outside. And then the credits end... but the game continues. And you are given a choice.
Hit Esc, and close the game. Or keep playing.
Because, in fact, after the end credits, you are fully in control of the Prince who looks over all the trees that keep Ahriman in check. If you choose to go on, the task is simple:
Reach those trees and cut them down.
You hear a soft whisper in your ear. Barely audible, but it's there. You cut down the first tree, and the whisper grows louder. It is Ahriman speaking to you, the same way he had spoken to the King before. As you cut down more and more trees, you can understand what Ahriman is saying:
"Fear not the night, it is the dawn that brings pain. All you must do is ask. The asking is yours! If you would have your wish... then give me mine! Choose life. Choose death. The choice is not yours to make. I will be free!"
The light of Ormazd, the good god, is fading, and the Tree of Life won’t be able to hold Ahriman forever, that is a fact. If you reach and cut down every tree, then you must go back to the temple, run past Elika again, and cut down the final magical tree in the inner chamber. If you go through with it, Ahriman is freed and he does revive Elika for you. Elika is heartbroken at your choice, but there is nothing left to do.
In the final scene, the silent Prince is carrying the crushed Elika into the desert amidst a rising sandstorm, with Ahriman’s horrible visage rushing towards them from its dark depths.
“What is one grain of sand in the desert? What is one grain of sand in the storm?“
This ending hit me hard, and I remember just sitting there for 15 minutes, trying to just process all of it. And yes, I did break down in tears during playing that part.
10/10, fuck Ahriman.
These two are at the top, but definitely far from the only ones that made me cry. :) What are the games that made you cry?
