Love And Dragons

We had names. Strong ones, glorious ones. Proud, beautiful names, that no one will remember.

We had been practicing for months. It would be a difficult ruse to pull, but we were confident. So long as they could maintain the illusion of chastity in public, none would suspect their affair.

Our affair.

It wouldn’t have been such a scandal if I weren’t involved. An embarrassment, yes, and a great one at that. But their kingdom saw my kind as nothing but monsters, so a monster I would be. I would snatch her away in public, and when he “attacked” me to “protect” her, I would snatch him away as well.

He was noble, dashing, deeply concerned with honor but moreso with justice. She was elegant, graceful, courteous but not condescending. And I… I just wanted a family.

We’d been practicing for months, going over every possibility we could think of. Evading arrows, deflecting blows, moving as fast as we could. We were going over the possibility of an attack from above, but armor and tree climbing don’t mix. He fell. I caught him. He hadn’t let go of his weapon.

He pulls the sword away, throws his helmet off, staring up at me. He can’t even speak, but on his lips I can read “I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” the only words he seems to know anymore. She can barely hold herself up as she runs to us, tripping more in those few meters than I’ve seen her do in years. She can still speak, and when she makes her plea, I can see in their eyes that they have made their decision.

I have enough strength to grant their request, and when it is done, I curl myself around their bones.

If we cannot be together in life, death will do just as well.

even after dust sold his soul to nightmare for his dream, he's still unruly and disobedient, especially when it comes to killer. dust wouldn't kill him. he wouldn't capture the traitor or drag him back to nightmare screaming. even though nightmare always gives him opportunities to engage with killer one-to-one on battlefields. dust couldn't bring himself to do it, to deprive killer of his happy ending. but he's also conflicted, because he's supposed to be killer's happy ending. he's in a perpetual ping-pong game with his own desires. he wants killer, but he also wishes for killer's happiness. maybe this is the best way to keep killer in the rest of his (hopefully not short) life. determination to see his light again. perseverance to keep living under nightmare's rule.

and dust's disregard of nightmare's orders constantly puts him under nightmare's wrath. nightmare knows about dust's afflictions - and while they feed nightmare well, it is a pain to deal with dust's unpredictable outbursts whenever killer appears or is brought up. he's a glass cannon basically. dust sports more and more injuries over time, both from nightmare's punishments and his own unchecked self-destructive tendencies. more bandages over his body, like temporary fixes to a problem that won't go away. he looks more vulnerable that way, which nightmare finds some uses for - bait for bleeding hearts over the multiverse. they don't know the sharks that circle the pretty mermaid they have invited into their homes.

and nightmare can tell dust is getting worse, marginally so but it's still frustrating. would be a shame if he loses a valuable spawn, just enough stubbornness and loyalty to keep in his inventory. so he tries to reward dust with little things to keep the lovesick fool function. killer's old room is now dust's, of course. dreamless nights, even though dust rarely sleeps. little tidbits about what killer is doing, from his spies. the occasional hearty meals, to keep dust well-fed. new "toys" for dust, even though he rarely cares about them. sometimes nightmare shapeshifts into his killer to give dust little gestures of affection, like letting him sleep on his lap or hugging him - dust is observant (and obsessive enough over killer) to notice the ruse anyway. dust often encounters daydreams and hallucinations of his loved ones, and if he listened to them he wouldn't be here at all. he calls nightmare out on them every time, angry like a cornered injured wild animal, but nightmare only finds the reactions cutely amusing. maybe one day when dust is finally desperate enough, he'd allow nightmare to erect the occasional fantasy dates with "killer". even though it's not real, it's just enough to keep his delusion going, to keep his will to live longer.

just as long as he's aware it's a dream and not slip down any further down the edge.

just as long as he's still cognizant that the killer doesn't love him back.

I'll also do my best to explain the character design and body language I used since this is how they appear at the start of their stories!

Evangeline Marie G. (Guzman) Lakandula

I went with this very conservative style due to her being raised very sheltered and when she was younger her family always put value to how they appeared to the rest of the clan and I really wanted to make sure that it's clear that it stuck with her even after she ran away from her father and sister

White is meant to be this colour of purity but it also makes it less hot so long as the fabric isn't too thick

Body language is closed off and almost looks like she's trying to always comfort or embrace herself due to a lot of insecurities and a hard childhood

She doesn't mess with her hair at the start as she doesn't see a reason for it nor has the motivation to do anything beyond keeping her hair loose or the occasional ponytail

Flats because it's easier to use a bicycle and also since she doesn't think heels would suit her

The only constant thing I shouldn't forget to keep drawing is the necklace which I now turned into a locket. In there is a photo of her grandparents since it was her grandmother's locket before her death

Say thank you Metro Manila Film Festival for showing The Kingdom aka a movie about an uncolonised Philippines for giving me some clues on how to work with a modernised take on something like that

So I axed off Rutherland and went with a slightly colonised part of the archipelago that reclaimed its independence before Spain fully sunk its claws into the country. Thus the small country known as Dimaapi was founded. They speak deep Tagalog and have little to no Spanish loan words but they could speak English cause it's necessary

Urduja was named after the Pangasinense princess Urduja/Udaya, and it's a name chosen by their mother to remind them of their worth. In the old stories, Urduja announced she would only marry one who is greater than her in battle and wisdom, so their mother wanted them to settle for no less than that.

Has a complicated relationship with their mother cause it feels more like they're a bargaining chip and prop for their mom's campaigns

Urduja keeps their hair short for management reasons but the first time they cut their hair it was a bit of a scandal since it's like they took away their own pride

They went to Manila once and saw modern barongs and got very fond of it that that's their go-to fashion now

Wears heels cause they like feeling tall

A bit uncomfortable with their role as First Child hence the body language and have a tendency to put their weight on one foot a lot of the time

Maya Chelidonia C. (Caacbay) dela Rosa

They actually sometimes do go on their tiptoes unconsciously, it happens as a way to think over things and they don't even notice. Mafalda learned to just accept it

Wears flats for workplace-appropriate reasons, their go-to is something respectable looking so they could be taken seriously

Ties their hair in a low bun like back in their police days back in the Philippines as something familiar but also practical

No makeup beyond a tinted lip balm their younger sister sent over to stop them from picking their lips

Likes coffee but it's more of like sweet stuff just to stay awake. Prefers Kopiko tho and black forest milktea

Delores Faustina A. (Abad) Hilario

Babie darling girl who's confident in herself and is trying her best in college

Does a lot of volunteer work back at the Philippines and is known by her old school friends to have waded through deep floods to aid very flooded areas during typhoon season

Asked her mom to dye her hair before she went to college

Rings are her comfort item and will wear a lot on different fingers (they're costume rings but it's the feeling of it that's more important)

Likes to wear skirts of varying styles unless she's told to wear pants

Emma Dolores A. (Acda) Dalit

Here's my Freshman MC all grown up and here she dyed her hair a lil bit since she liked the colour and thought it would look good on her

She stopped writing her novels and fairytales after her messy breakup with James, her grandmother's death, her leaving Hartfeld and later on her grandfather's death so she focused more on journalism after a course switch and became a political journalist

She became known as someone who interviewed King James Liam Rhys and Queen Evangeline Marie Lakandula-Rhys for a special interview

Is very work obsessed that she sleeps only four hours despite her siblings' growing concerns

Still wears pinks but stopped with the floral prints

Dyed her hair a deep red brown shade since she thinks she looks good with it

Now wears her grandmother's pink pearl necklace

While she doesn't say it, she still secretly writes short stories but she no longer talks about them

The modern Choices book endings are like when you finish a presentation by going “so…uh…yeah”.

You steadily place your mahogany heeled foot upon the metallic touch of your highest ranking, and childhood friend's knee cap armor. A curled smile insinuates graciously along your flawless skin, hands gently yet, steadily nestled on the curves of your covered hips.

Watching lidded irises of beautiful mauve carefully, slowly gaze up at you with perked intrigue and coy. Gloved, cold metallic hands delicately fold over the mount of your ankle of your boot, gradually gliding up the valley pathway to the first button. You tilt your head slightly to your right, glimmered eyes pouring down into those glorious pools of entangled infatuation and allure. Studying the careful lean of his body moving forward towards your knee, his right hand softly brushing away the soften material of your silky dress to the side as his lips find purchase at the starting point of your bare knee.

All while holding eye contact with you, his hand that subtly fans your gorgeous dress from your plush skin, tenderly caresses over the exposed delicate flesh of your thigh.

Your breath hitches when you feel the mixed temperatures of his searing, pliable lips and the brisk, brittle touch of his armor seep into your skin with every, careful touch.

You weave your left hand through his long, breath taking raven tresses. Tugging and combing ever so intently and carefully to meet his steady, concentrating gaze.

"My dearest, loyal knight...how is it that you tend to me oh, so softly, hm?" your sweet voice entrances the tenderly engaging knight kneeling before you. Plants his lips one last time against your knee, up to the more supple, softest plump of flesh of your upper thigh. Halting just right at the bridge of your adorable, white laced garter cutely hugging around the soften, inviting flesh. He smiles with a tinge of coy as he breathes lowly, warmly against your trembling, perfect skin.

Both of his armored hands diligently holding around the dainty flesh, eyes intently studying over your beautiful, radiant face. His left hand stays still just beneath the supple skin, holding it close to his warm lips as the right soothes up to the curves of your clothed waist.

"For someone as lovely and as breath takingly beautiful and delicate such as yourself, My lady...I would tend to you as though you were made of the finest of delicacies...flourish and cherish to you like the rarest of flora amongst the land...mend to you like you were the only treasure I desperately acquire..." his smooth, rasp tone lures you in deeper into his captivating allure and longing. Breath hitching more audibly with every subtle glide of his hand and lip placement with every muttered poetry spilling from those intoxicating lips of his.

"S-Suguru..."

His heart plummets fiercely against his solid, armored chest from the breathy sound of his name wafting off from the plush, rose colored lush of lips of yours. Placing yet another ghost like kiss to your skin. His eyes lingering onto your face a bit more longer then intended, weighted palms grasping along your tempting canvas with dire need and security.

Honestly the greatest piece of acting I’ve ever seen in a TV show. I’ve wrote about it elsewhere so I won’t wax poetic about all that this scene represents for me. I just want to acknowledge how astounding I think it is in terms of acting skill and direction. You could seriously put this entire scene on mute and still see everything that it conveys in it. Remarkable acting!
