How Numenorean Women were Key to Sauron’s Rise
Sauron needed more than the kingsmen — or men in general — to ruin Numenor.
The family is the smallest unit of society. Simply put, that if you want to destroy a society, destroy the family. That requires women’s buy-in. Once women start drinking Sauron’s Kool-Aid, the fate of Numenor is sealed. A non-exhaustive list of why:
Mothers are primary caregivers, and instructors of children. If Sauron wants to kill Iluvatar in the Numenorean psyche, and spread Melkorism into general populace, he needs to first persuade the everyday mother.
Women are more susceptible to cults than men. Particularly during cultural instability. Melkorism is a cult.
Women are better connectors and cultural champions than men. Through connections to other women and community leaders, they are crucial for sharing info, hosting events, lending credibility and persuasion to Sauron’s cause.
“The devil is endlessly ingenious, and sex is his favorite subject.” — Tolkien
The Temple of Melkor is, in essence, a satanic cult. We know the “great wickedness” inside wasn’t just human sacrifices but sexual decadence.
Sauron’s goal is demiurgic: trapping the Numenoreans in the material world, forgetting they are also spiritual beings with a higher purpose that once led to greatness. Instead have forsake virtue for appetite and passion; and demoralize the Faithful and keep them from putting up a fight.
A noble Numenor is a chaste one -- that is, a society that denounces the sexual objectification of the Other. In the Overton Window concept, Sauron would have to normalize the "unthinkable": sexual depravity. He would definitely have used Melkorism, possible through initiating “sacred prostitution” — in which temple priests/priestesses would perform rites as a form of religious worship. Next shift with sexualized sermons, rituals, and punishments for the laity.
In Numenor, Sauron was a total Chad — but unlike the Elves, mortals would be more easily fooled by his glamour
Wickedly handsome in his fair form, charismatic, knowledgeable, and high-status — he didn’t even need a ring of power to have women throwing themselves at him. Absolutely Sauron would exploit their amorous affections, particularly those high-born in the temple and Ar-Pharazon’s court.
Sauron might have used sexual relationships— or dangle the possibility thereof — to have them do his bidding. Women can better fly under the radar as spies, saboteurs, and social influencers. Sex as blackmail or destabilizing relationships and alliances. Sex and attention to stir jealously among female admirers to keep them distracted and loyal.
Probably cucked a few husbands who didn’t show him proper respect. Definitely ruined more than a few marriages.

Five minute-sketch: my headcanon/idea is that (as long as we don’t exactly know that she died after she met Lúthien), Thuringwethil recovered from her injuries and stayed with Sauron as his herald/spy. Of course she followed him to Númenor, although she wasn’t captured, and became a priestess of Morgoth.
Not a very likely possibility but why not? If there’s a chance to draw our skinny bat-priestess... 🦇

The bald pale person in the trailer is not Sauron, btw. Its an actress who is playing a priestess of the Sauron/Melkor's Cult. We still havent seen the official Sauron/Annatar design.
I haven't watched the trailer tbh. I'm just going by what posts tell me is the confirmed design for Sauron and I felt compelled to go back and look at the pic I made

Jfc people, it’s not Sauron. It’s not even a man. You can literally see that the character is a woman in the wide shot (boobs!). The name of the actress is Bridie Sisson.
If I had to guess, she is likely some kind of priestess of the cult of Melkor. So, associated with Sauron but NOT Sauron.
Sauron as Annatar Lord of Gifts handing out the rings of power.
