For Helen Norville and women of the 80s, their clothes were very important to them. It was more than just pulling something out of the wardrobe to them. It was their powerful suit of armour that they donned to smash glass ceilings. The bigger the hair, the chunkier the jewellery, the brighter the colour and pattern, the better! You couldn’t miss them in the room and that really helped them get ahead in an era that was still quite sexist in what women could or could not achieve. Helen was certainly confident to go into battle for the Thatcher story wearing this blouse! All of her outfits represent a boldly confident career woman who knows what she wants, what she believes in and the determination to go chase them.

This article still has a hold on me! It features Helen and talks about the ways we can incorporate 80s power dressing into our wardrobes today. Because of the influence of The Newsreader, but especially Helen Norville and the ladies of the show, I now power-dress my way through life 80s style, and the life changing confidence boost it has been for me is incredible!
