Here we have our Walmart Special Edition Furby baby, better known as-

My sweet chatty baby, their eye bar is a little whack (eyes never fully close without help) and their light sensor is finicky (works best with natural light and flashlights) but I adore them 💖

AND HERE WE HAVE MY BRAND NEW (was in box hehe) Gen 1 Wolf Furby who is so fittingly named-

They're SO soft, and gave me a little bit of trouble on start up! I thought they didn't work at first 😂 did some troubleshooting and had to smack the base to encourage the motors to start up! BUT they're very quiet??? Not the motor, but the speaker! So I'm not sure if that's something fixable, but right now I can BARELY hear my baby over their own motor 😂

These are my first two working furbys, and being able to score one who was brand new in box? I kept telling my inner child that this furby has been waiting 20+ years to be opened by someone like me 🥹💖

You actually caught me in a moment where I haven't been paying the most attention, just went from near a month of 12 hour workdays to trying to refill the queue decimated in that time XD In general we've been doing the loser's bracket of Mordenkeinen's monsters and all the PC species. So we've had a good amount of the weirder monsters lately, like the star spawns and hags. I got a lot of entertainment out of the war over the demon lords when some main tournament bits posted out of turn (didn't have time to refresh queue with the right monsters).

Things are about the heat up as we launch into the main tournament though, and PF2e monsters in a few weeks! I'm especially excited about the PF2e stuff, and have spent my last 2 days prepping like 50 of them.

Oh, and potatoes are some of the finest things known to our species, the Inca should be celebrated worldwide for thier contribution to humanity! They have gotten me through the toughest times. Did you know they have all the carbs and nutrients needed for our survival except proteins, fatty acids, calcium, selenium, fibre and vitamins A, B12, E, K. Cycle in some beans occasionally to cover half of what remains, some vitamins (or better, some veggies) and milk (or leafy veggies like spinach or turnip greens) for a cheap and tasty way to stay perfectly healthy on little money. That + some occasional cheap meats or bones begged from the local butcher kept me alive for a while! Hell, Potatoes+Zucchini/Squash+cheap cuts of meat+leafy greens+beans are most of what I eat NOW

for now, let's talk about ✨️👻 fall 🎃🍂 plantings for BIG harvests in smol spaces:

🧄 garlic ✨️

before we discuss garlic, keep in mind that garlic is planted in september/october, and then harvested the next, late spring. depending on how cold it gets in your area (or lack of cold), anytime between may through july. keep that in mind when thinking about planting all these others on the list this fall! imma do a separate post on how to grow garlic, because it is almost that time of year and while it's easy to grow, with a few extra steps to do you can get enough for your neighborhood and the neighborhood over! but out of this entire list, it takes the longest from planting to harvest.

🫐 Perennial Berries ✨️

fuck big box stores, THIS is when you're supposed to plant berry plants! but why? because they will focus on root growth all winter, so by the time it's ready to fruit in the spring it can focus on doing only that! big box stores put out fruiting plants when they have fruit beginning to show because that what sells... but that's also what ensures a shitty harvest and a chance of dying in a hot summer because of lack of root establishment. find some blueberries, raspberries, figs, strawberries... whatever fruit you like in your pop tarts you plant now. there are varieties that are dwarf and meant for containers, so search online for "bushel and berry" branded fruit plants. they really fill a pantry for such a tiny plant.

🥔 potatoes ✨️

ok so this one i can't go into too much detail simply because yes, you can grow potatoes in the winter, but only a very select variety specifically for your area. this one you're gonna have to do research on but when you do, make sure you know your USDA growing zone and make sure when you find a potato variety that their starters are as locally sourced as possible. majority can be grown in a 2ft wide pot, but potatoes are not picky about dirt type so finding a pot and digging a hole works perfectly fine. just make sure you research the variety beforehand!!

🥬 swiss chard ✨️

ok, ok... so really you can grow any greenery in winter: kale, cabbages, broccoli, collards... but the reason i'm going with swiss chard is because out of all of the leafy greens and brassicas out there, swiss chard you can harvest approximately 3 to 5 times before it goes "okie dokie i've given it all i got." and shucks does each harvest getchu a lot!! kale is the next best, but is more picky about temperatures than chard and you'll need a lot of kale plants for a big harvest each time. this is about growing enough for you and your neighbors after all! and if you get rainbow chard everyone will enjoy the extra colors in a bleak winter.

🌶 hot peppe-- wait what?! ✨️

YES!! you can grow hot peppers during the winter!! figured i'd throw in a curve ball for the finale. i'll be starting my hot pepper seeds in october, too. give them the same love and care as a houseplant: keep them inside, warm, and lots of sun or grow lights, and they WILL produce! they are classified as "self-pollinators" meaning they don't need no help producing their fruit. the reason, though, of choosing hot peppers over sweet peppers is because a lot of hot pepper varieties produce smol fruit, so less energy and less work to go into producing so many. sweet peppers tend to grow large, so while yes they are also self-pollinators, a ton of more work and energy will need to go in to them to get the produce you need (hence why better for outdoor growth). look for a dwarf variety of hot peppers, such as hawk's claw, thai red, tabasco, etc. and you'll have a bountiful harvest even during the winter months. just make sure to keep those plants where it is warm - either inside or a greenhouse!

i plan on attempting to grow garlic this fall so that when i harvest it, i can keep a bit of it and donate all the rest to the free community fridges that we have scattered around my city! 🧄🌇

for context: there's this nonprofit org, kinda like food not bombs, who have set up and maintain locations at small businesses or friendly areas that have a fridge + a pantry where you take what you need, leave what you can!

last time i visited one, i dropped off a bunch of teas, coffee filters, canned fruit & veggies, and frozen blueberries! bc you don't often get nice things like coffee & tea & frozen foods at community food pantries bc some people believe they're "luxury goods." maybe they are supposedly "luxury goods," but the food insecure people also deserve luxury!!!

please lmk if there are other easy, beginner-friendly things i can grow in the fall to harvest in big batches to donate that people can use in the kitchen! i also will really appreciate tips on growing garlic!!

PIG EAR SOUP 🍲 🐷

(Aka "Naughty bitch boy stew" *looks at Bajie*)

● Ingredients

-1 lbs of black beans 🫘

-2 Carrots (1 large or 2 small)🥕

-1 Potato Idaho 🥔

-2 packages of pig ears (4 count each) 🐷

-Cilantro 🌿

-Recaito 1pk (it's strong)💪

●instructions

-Wash ears with water, lime juice and white vinegar let it soak for 5 mins ⏲️

-In a Large Pot fill with water a little over half way. Bring it to a boil

-Wash your Black Beans then let them boil in the water for about an hour or more, cover with lid

-In a Smaller Pot fill with water half way then bring to a boil

•ADD•

-3 ojas (I think they're called Bay leaves in english) 🍃

-2 small pieces of Ginger 🫚

-2 sticks of Cinnamon 🥢

-3 cloves of Garlic 🧄

•Then cover with lid

•Back to the Ears•

-Dump out water and wash off again 3 times with cold water

-add your pig ears to the Smaller Pot and let them boil for about 10mins ⏲️

-When it starts to foam remove the ears from the pot and place them in a colander

-wash with them with cold water and dump out the rest of the water from the Smaller Pot

-Set ears aside

-peel and cube your Carrot(s) into small cubes

-peel and cube the potato into medium cubes

-Check on beans and make sure they're Al Dente

-Cube the pigs ears into cubes larger than your potato cubes

-Add your carrots and ears to the Large Pot

-Check and add water to the pot as you go since the beans would have absorbed a lot of it at this point

-Let boil for 15mins ⏲️

-When the ears are nice and soft add your potatoes (heads up they cook quickly)

-Season with Goya Adobo (you can use the mini packages if you want)

-Make sure you stir 😏

-No salt needed for this dish trust me-

-chop very finely the Cilantro and Recaido and add it to the soup

-Give it a good stir then cover

-turn off fire🔥 You're Done Enjoy! 😛👌✨️

Oranges. It all started with oranges, Nikki loved the fruit too much, and while she was willing to share a few slices, she didn’t expect the damn pig to eat all of them while she was distracted from cooking lunch three days ago, of course, she was angry and why wouldn’t she be? While on the outside she may look ditzy and cheerful, Nikki swore revenge with barely contained anger on the inside and she already swore revenge in the worst way she knew how, through food.

The sun was shining brightly on a beautiful peaceful day, while the pilgrims went on their journey to the West, the only female in the group was happily skipping along and humming a little song as they traveled hoping to make time flow faster, she was buzzing with excitement it was finally her turn to cook, she can’t wait to use the potatoes and leeks she bought for a bargain from the town they passed by yesterday, she even found some herbs and mushrooms from the forest they went through this morning. 

Dark eyes sparkled in delight as she thought of recipes to use, making soup was definitely a good option, but she also wanted to make stir-fried potatoes and mushrooms, making potato gnocchi would be nice but there isn’t enough herbs to help flavour the potato, but maybe she can make some classic garlic chili oil noodles with some mushrooms, and potato and leek dumplings, though she can improvise and make Wukong help her with making some baked potato, now if only she can lure Zhu Bajie into a secluded location to butcher him into bacon, unfortunately, they’re in an open field so she can’t dump the body for wild animals to eat the carcass, as much as she wanted to kill him, she doesn’t have an established alibi to make her innocent, so those plans for murder must be on hold for now.

The hours passed by quickly as the group made their camp near a pond, the dark-haired woman saw something in the trees, it was a cluster of small round yellow berries, she recognized these from a survival wilderness show she watched, it was chinaberries, she remembered they caused diarrhea and were poisonous, but not enough to kill, with a happy smile, Nikki skipped to the nearest tree and gathered the ripe fruits while the others were distracted in setting up for the night.

Sha Wujing noticed Nikki looking happy while setting up the fire to cook. “Did you decide on what to cook for tonight?” he asked quite curious, the woman seemed more cheerful than usual this evening “Yup~ I’m planning on making some garlic and mushroom noodle soup with potato and leek dumplings!” the young woman chirped as she boiled some water to soften the potatoes and leeks, after the water was finished boiling she used a portion of it and some oil to make noodles while kneading the dough she asked Sha Wujing to wash the potatoes and leeks.

Nikki then chopped the potatoes, leeks, and mushrooms and boiled them, getting a mortar and pestle, she ground some chili, garlic, and ginger into a soft paste to flavour the broth and to mix into the dumplings, once the herbs were done being mashed into a paste, Nikki added half of it to the boiling vegetables, she scooped out the cooked veggies and swapped it with the freshly made noodles and added some salt, the woman then mashed the potatoes and mixed some leftover flour and herb paste to create new dough for dumplings, she then took the leeks and mushrooms and used them as filling for the dumplings, once done she added all of the dumplings to the boiling soup to fully cook.

The rest of the pilgrims just stood by watching as Nikki cooked, it was always a treat for them to watch her use skills in the culinary arts, it was especially endearing when she looks so happy feeding them. Once the food was done cooking, she asked for their bowls and served them, Nikki discretely added the chinaberries to Zhu Bajies bowl, their yellow colouring didn’t seem out of place near the potato dumplings she made, smiling brightly as she joined the group in dinner.

It only took an hour before Zhu Bajie complained of an upset stomach while the rest of the group was warming themselves by the campfire after cleaning up from dinner and it only took 10 minutes before he panicked and scrambled to relieve himself near some bushes, every time he thought he was done and was about to sit down, he had to rush to the nearest bush, after an excruciating 20 minutes, Zhu Bajie was nauseated started to cry while holding his grumbling and upset stomach, the pig started to crawl back to the bush to vomit.

Nikki just smiled happily at the scene and Wukong noticed her gleeful expression. “What’s got you so happy about this? Did you do something?!” he questioned the cheerful woman, the rest of the group stared at the scene, and before Tripitaka can activate his spell on Wukong’s fillet, Nikki answered happily, “Yup!~ that’s what he gets for eating all of my snacks three days ago, just because I didn’t get angry at you doesn’t mean I’m not plotting my revenge” Nikki’s smile became wider as she continued “At first I planned to butcher him, but the local predator species wasn’t big enough for it to be believable to make it look like an animal attack and I don’t have an established alibi but then I thought poison is the way to go, luckily I found these chinaberries~.”

The woman had a sadistic little twinkle in her eyes and giggled as Zhu Bajie crawled back to the camp, the pig looked scared at the young woman’s blissfully happy face. “Next time don’t eat all of my fruits, I might not outwardly express my anger, but I won’t hesitate to get even and then some okay?~ welp good night everyone~” and with that, the young woman gleefully skipped to her cot and happily went to sleep, the rest of the group just gaped at her. Yup don’t mess with the chef.
