A growing number of illegal immigrants are choosing to return to their home countries ahead of President-elect Trump’s return to office, citing fears of stricter immigration enforcement.

Trump plans to dismantle lenient Biden-Harris policies, including ending the “CBP One” app for asylum seekers and re-implementing the “Remain in Mexico” policy to deter illegal crossings.

Reports from Mexican officials indicate that up to 100 illegal immigrants in Mexico have requested “voluntary return” to their countries of origin. Brasil vai aplicar reciprocidade em caso de taxação dos EUA, diz Lula

O presidente Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva afirmou, nesta quarta-feira (5), que, em uma eventual taxação do governo dos Estados Unidos a produtos brasileiros, vai aplicar o princípio da reciprocidade. “É lógico. O mínimo de decência que merece um governo é utilizar a lei da reciprocidade”, disse em entrevista a rádios de Minas Gerais.

O presidente norte-americano, Donald Trump, vem prometendo aplicar tarifas abrangentes a diversos países com superávit comercial com os Estados Unidos (vendem mais do que compram dos americanos), como a China e até a parceiros mais próximos como México e Canadá. O Brasil vive situação oposta, tem déficit comercial, comprou mais do que vendeu aos americanos, e ainda não foi taxado diretamente, mas deve receber reflexos da guerra de tarifas.

Lula lembrou que a Organização Mundial do Comércio (OMC) permite a taxação de até 35% para qualquer produto importado. “Para nós, o que seria importante seria os Estados Unidos baixarem a taxa, e nós baixarmos a taxação. Mas se ele, ou qualquer país, aumentar a taxa de imposto para o Brasil, nós iremos utilizar a reciprocidade, nós iremos taxar eles também”, disse.

“Isso é simples, é muito democrático. Não há por que ficar tentando colocar uma questão ideológica nisso. O que eu acho é que o mundo está precisando de paz, de serenidade”, acrescentou o presidente, defendendo que “a diplomacia volte a funcionar” e que a harmonia entre os países seja restabelecida.

Para Lula, os Estados Unidos estão se isolando do mundo, mas também precisam de boas relações com outros países. “Nenhum país, por mais importante que seja, pode brigar com todo mundo o todo tempo”, disse, lembrando que o atual governo abriu 303 novos mercados para produtos brasileiros.

Bravatas

Na entrevista às rádios Itatiaia, Mundo Melhor e BandNewsFM BH, de Minas Gerais, Lula também alertou que não se deve ter preocupação com as “bravatas” do presidente Donald Trump, já que “ninguém pode viver de bravata a vida inteira”. “É importante que a gente comece a selecionar as coisas sérias para que a gente possa discutir”, afirmou.

“Tem um tipo de político que vive de bravata. O presidente Trump fez a campanha dele assim. Agora, ele tomou posse e já anunciou [que pretende] ocupar a Groenlândia, anexar o Canadá, mudar o nome de Golfo do México para Golfo da América. E já anunciou reocupar o Canal do Panamá”, acrescentou Lula.

Deportações

O presidente brasileiro afirmou ainda que o governo vai recepcionar os cidadãos que forem deportados dos Estados Unidos para o Brasil. A previsão é que, na próxima sexta-feira (7), um novo voo com brasileiros chegue ao país, vindo do estado norte-americano da Louisiana para Fortaleza, no Ceará.

“Nós estamos conversando, com o Itamaraty [Ministério das Relações Exteriores] e a Polícia Federal, para que a gente comece a ter todos esses dados lá em Louisiana, onde eles embarcam, para que a gente possa se preparar para recebê-los aqui e fazer com que eles cheguem no seu destino de origem”, disse Lula na entrevista.

“Nós estamos muito atentos, a Polícia Federal, Ministério da Justiça, Ministério dos Direitos Humanos e o Itamaraty, para que a gente dê cidadania a esses companheiros quando chegam ao Brasil, inclusive com assistência médica, para saber se as pessoas estão com algum problema de saúde. E nós vamos tratar como se deve tratar um ser humano, com muito carinho e muito respeito”, afirmou o presidente.

Lula explicou ainda que o governo brasileiro trata a situação como repatriação e não deportação. “São companheiros e companheiras brasileiras que foram para lá à procura de um mundo melhor, à procura de sorte, à procura de emprego melhor e que não conseguiram se legalizar, não foram aceitos pelo governo americano”, acrescentou.
