School’s in session || HOTD men
“Then I see you, you’re walking ‘cross the campus. Cruel professor, studying romances.” — Campus // Vampire Weekend
packing’s tuff asffff. I’m glad for a break in the middle of it all. This is very short. And I hope it satisfies the pookies enough in the calloopie drought. But once again, I return to the trenches of packing for college 🫡🫡🙂↕️✌️
Davos Blackwood // Computer science
As we’ve established once, Davos rooms with Aeron. No one knows why, or understands even. They both hate each other (so they say).
Once you see him walk into his computer lab, just know that you’re not seeing him ever again until the late hour of the night. He goes in with two—three energy drinks, comes out with four empty cans… not sure how that happened. Davos isn’t sure where the extra can came from. Magic. Pure college magic.
He’s a very smart and capable student. He’s just.. lazy. The type to put assignments and projects off until the day of the deadline. And then he’ll lock in for the whole day and not text you or anyone until midnight when he turns it in just barely on time. He says he lives for the thrill, the adrenaline of bordering the due date.
Rides a skateboard to class, around the campus, everywhere. If he sees you he does a trick in front of you before riding off. Only for you though. Sometimes he fails, and it’s bad for him but funny for you (and everyone else who sees it happen). It’s like once I saw someone fall into the fountain on campus. Yeah—that’s what happened to Davos. A trail of water leading toward the science building, and a very unhappy Davos sitting through a lecture with his pants soaked.
Enjoys sleeping on the grass if it’s nice enough. A backpack for a pillow (or your thighs). You could be sleeping beside him, letting his head rest in your lap, or simply just doing homework or coursework as you both enjoy the afternoon. Whatever you have going on, Davos is just happy to be beside you.
The type to cut it really close to class time if he’s getting food. Nothing gets in the way of his food, not even the start of a class or lab. He’ll be in line and you’ll spot him out and be confused, looking down at your phone as you talk about how you thought he had a lab. And Davos would happily respond and say, yes, he does indeed have that lab. But fries are calling his name. And who is he to deny such salty callings?
Jacaerys Velaryon // Political Science
Attentive, in every one of his classes. Sometimes his posture is upright, other times he’s leaning back. But he never dozed off or loses interest. The only sign of his boredom would be seeing him twiddle around a pencil or pen between his fingers, both ends tapping lightly against the desk or notebook in front of him.
Bounces his leg too. Not out of anxiety or anything, but once again just an outlet for his boredom or restlessness. It gets worse when the clock shows it’s nearing the end of class.
Sometimes he’ll get so engrossed in whatever’s being taught, you’ll have to poke him once or twice to get his attention. He’ll snap his head toward you before returning his attention to the front of the class, but he’s listening to you now at least. A hand resting against his chin as you talk into his ear or show him something on your laptop or phone.
Coffee girl. You never see him without a coffee. Iced, hot. Starbucks, homemade. Whatever it is, it’s on his desk. Definitely not a Stanley cup guy. Jace likes something small, simple. Nothing that stands out or is overly complicated and fancy. It’s probably a portable mug he stole from his mother, or has just had for a very long time.
Always put together. Even a lazy fit on him looks chic. You ask him one day, how does he do it? Even wearing just sweats and a t-shirt; he somehow always looks so.. good. Jace chuckles under his breath, shaking his head as he adjusts his cap. Oh it’s a bit of this and that, confidence and coolness. How you hold yourself. But also really.. it’s all in the accessories; he tells you.
Cregan Stark // Environmental Science
A literal ghost on campus. You never see him—you don’t know how he does it. You could go the entire day without seeing Cregan and then randomly think about him and not a moment later he’s right in front of you. And yes, he likes seeing how you light up in surprise. How you say his name every time he suddenly appears beside you. Never gets old.
Big salad and study guy. Or just snacking and studying in general. In the library, in a study room, somewhere on campus, no matter what; Cregan’s got something in front of him as he reads over an article.
Reads the news while he walks to class. Usually he doesn’t like staring at his phone so aimlessly. But for the latest news updates, he will do it. He lets out little hums or groans depending on what’s happening in the world. Only once have you seen him shake his head at something. A scoff and an eye roll were rare as well.
Does not adhere to sidewalk paths. If there’s a quicker route to the building where his class is being held—he will take it. Even if it’s through the woods; he will take it. Efficiency is the name of the game here, and he’d rather be early than late.
He does not pay attention when he walks also. So if you’re trying to get his attention, you will have to grab his arm and put yourself in his field of vision. He’s a fast walker too. He’s got places to be after all, he can’t just slow down to make conversation when he’s got a busy schedule and things to do. But he will.. slow down a bit. And make time for you, in his busy life.

Trevor x Reader, platonic Jamie
Requested!
✄————————————
“Yeah?” Silence. “Yeah.. yeah okay.” Pacing. “No that’s fine.” Approaching footsteps. “It’ll be rescheduled?”
I looked up from my phone, blankets pulled around my waist, sitting up in Trevor’s bed. “Alright. I’ll talk to you later then.”
Trevor stepped into the room, lowering his phone from his ear as he made eye contact with me and dropped his duffel bag.
“What’s the word?”
“They cancelled the game. We’re on a severe storm watch all night, and the power’s out across the whole city. The Civic Center can’t host people on backup generators.” Trevor kicked his shoes off, and I smiled at how quickly he began to lose pieces of his suit.
“So I get a night in with my baby?”
“Trevor?”
I sighed, glancing past Trevor to see Jamie in the doorway.
“I get a night in with my baby and his boyfriend.” I corrected, smiling to assure Trevor I wouldn’t mind.
“They cancelled our game.” Jamie informed Trevor, though he was already behind on that information.
“I know I just called.” Trevor waited to take off his shirt or pants, sitting on the foot of the bed as he began to undo his tie.
“It’s really quiet.” I was caught off guard by the sound in Jamie’s voice. He seemed nervous.
“Yeah.. kinda is.” Trevor agreed, tossing his tie toward his desk chair. I looked back down at my phone, checking the specific weather for the next few hours. “Wanna play laser tag?” My head snapped back up toward the boys.
“Oh, yeah!” Jamie was out of the doorway in a flash. I heard Trevor chuckle softly. He looked back at me with a bright smile.
“You don’t mind, do you? Jambo isn’t a big fan of things like this. Makes him anxious.” Trevor leaned forward for a kiss, and I was swift to deliver. When I pulled away, I nodded.
“Keep him busy for a bit. I’ll call the electric company.”
“You’re the best.”
It didn’t take long for the boys to get changed and run off through the house.
I didn’t think it would be too hard to make a quick call. But even behind Trevor’s closed door, I could hear the boys yelling and laughing at the tops of their lungs. Cursing each other out and threatening one another from behind furniture and walls.
It was hard to keep a straight face while I was on the phone.
After about thirty minutes, I was given an estimated time on how long it would take for the power to be back. After I hung up, I grabbed a spare laser tag gun, and ventured out into the treacherous war zone that was the living room.
I had no vest, but I was only coming out to end the boys’ stalemate.
“Trevor, don’t come any closer!”
“What are you talking about? I can hear your footsteps!”
I bit my cheek to limit my laughter. One was tucked away in the corner behind the couch. The other behind the armchair across the floor.
“You’re such a liar!” Jamie accused, and I decided he would be my first victim.
I tiptoed over to the couch, and once I was close enough, I hopped up onto it and shouted. A cruel joke, but it scared the shit out of Jamie- who screamed in response as I shot him.
“Jamie?” Trevor’s concern was evident in his tone. I turned to look at him just as he stood up, raised my gun, and tagged him out.
“Fuck!” Trevor threw his hands in the air. I laughed softly.
“They said the power should come back on by tomorrow. Couldn’t give a good time because of how bad the roads are. They don’t know which power lines the electricians will be able to get to or not.”
I climbed off the couch and tossed my gun down. I finally heard Jamie breathe out a sigh and stand up.
“You two have portable phone chargers, yes?” They nodded. “And water in the fridge?” Another round of nodding. The fridge wouldn’t stay cold forever, but I was mainly concerned about them having something to drink in the event that their pipes had issues as well. “Alright. Then who’s up for a movie on my laptop?”
“Oh me!”
“Does Jamie have to stay?”
“Hey!”
“Jamie is a part of this household. Yes he’s staying.” I spoke with a light laugh. “You two grab a few blankets and pillows. I’ll set up the laptop.” They were gone in a flash. I grabbed my laptop from the coffee table and pushed the table back against the couch. I sat down on the floor and turned the device on, checking to see it had a full battery before I grabbed my phone to turn its hotspot on. I connected the laptop to it, and went to find my streaming services.
Soon, the boys returned with blankets and pillows. I moved from the floor and instructed them to set everything out. They fought over which side of the floor they wanted to be on, while I pulled up a film on the couch. Once they got settled and sat on the floor, I quickly joined them, seated next to Trevor on his own blanket while I set my laptop in the middle.
“What are we watching?” Jamie asked as he sat with his legs criss-crossed.
“Top Gun.” I answered, giving Trevor room as he laid down. I lowered myself onto my side next to him, resting my head on his chest and tangling our legs together.
I never minded spending time with Trevor and Jamie. Even if there were moments when I specifically wanted Trevor and not his lovely counterpart.
I learned Jamie was a package deal. And a good one at that. I figured out early on that I could still have quality time with Trevor, so long as I kept Jamie entertained. Which was incredibly easy. And he was a quiet guy as it was anyway. Sometimes it felt like he wasn’t even in the room.
My gaze drifted to Jamie as he dragged a blanket into his lap, fidgeting with the fabric while his eyes were glued to the screen. He was nervous, but he’d be alright.
When my gaze shifted to Trevor, I realized he was already looking at me. Our eyes locking caused him to smile and breathe out a quiet chuckle.
“Hey, baby.” I whispered playfully.
“Hey.” Trevor mocked quietly.
“You’re missing Tom Cruise.”
“You’re here. He can wait.” I rolled my eyes at him before looking back at the laptop.
It wasn’t until we were halfway through the movie when Jamie laid down, and we eventually heard the soft snores coming from his lips.
After that, I carefully stretched a foot out and shut the lid of my laptop, and I looked back at Trevor.
“You wanna go back in your bedroom?”
“I’m kinda comfy here.” Trevor admitted quietly. “And I don’t want him to freak out if he wakes up alone.” As much as I knew Trevor loved tormenting Jamie, he also loved looking after his best friend too.
“He’s not a four year old.” I whispered with a smile.
“Yeah, but he might feel a little left out.”
“What? That he can’t cuddle with us?” I tried not to laugh. Trevor rolled his eyes at me. “It’s alright, Zig. We can stay out here.” I pressed a kiss to his lips before I nestled back into his side, resting my head on his chest again.
“But at least put a blanket over the poor thing. He’s gonna start shivering.”

XP PEN REVIEW
I’ve been testing out the Artist 10 2nd Gen tablet sent to me by XP-PEN!
Note, I have previously only used screenless tablets so that will be my point of comparison. I’ll mainly just share my thoughts, likes, dislikes, aspects that stuck out to me.
What I liked
Tablet set-up is pretty simple. Just plug it in, download+install the latest driver(for Artist 10 2nd Gen) on the XP-Pen website, then turn on the tablet. (btw I use Windows, not sure what the experience is like for mac users)
Clear resolution
I liked how smooth and natural it felt to draw with the pen. There wasn’t any point where I felt that it lagged (while in display mode)
The shortcut keys and especially the artist glove (prevents your skin rubbing against the screen)
Customizable screen settings: I liked being able to watch a video full screen on my laptop while drawing on the tablet. And it was easy to set up! Usually with my screenless tablet I just squeeze the browser and sai into one screen.
Warning: Take care of any unsaved canvases before starting driver installation.
When downloading the driver you will see an .exe file to install. When you click that file and give permission to make changes, it automatically closes any graphics program you have open. After that, a window appears with a warning that reminds you to close them, even though it already closed the programs for you. I found this strange since other softwares that give this type of warning always let me pause to close the programs myself. Luckily sai 2 has a recovery function!
Pen Tablet/Display Mode
The tablet also comes with a “pen tablet” mode that turns off the display and lets you use it like a screenless tablet. I think it works okay, however, something that bugged me is occasionally the cursor would lag before registering that I was moving the pen.
(Note: if you previously used smaller screenless tablets(like me), this mode may feel jarring to use at first due to the different dimensions.)
Size & Portability
It’s among the smaller options for a display tablet, but part of that is for portability. Normally you need to plug an HDMI and USB adapter into your computer to use this tablet, but you can also connect it to a smartphone and take it anywhere. However, I cannot judge that feature as it requires a USB-C cable sold separately.
Regardless, I appreciate how easy it is to hold and handle, it reminds me of doodling in a notebook. It’s also a bit more convenient for me since it doesn’t take up too much space on my (very crowded) desk.
If you’re a beginner or a screenless tablet user looking to get a display tablet:
This does not come with a stand. I would suggest getting one for convenience and to help maintain proper posture while drawing and prevent back and neck issues. With a display tablet, there’s a tendency to hunch over while drawing.
The actual screen you draw on is approximately 9 x 5 inches. This can make make drawing feel cramped. (While it is a bigger drawing space than my Intuos draw, I had grown accustomed to staring at a larger computer screen while drawing.) Eventually the space felt less restrictive as I got used to drawing on it
The parallax (distance between pen nib and cursor) is very minimal, but it becomes more noticeable with the small screen size if you’re trying to sketch out a full image or body without zooming in
Overall thoughts
Pretty good. I had fun drawing on this. I’d recommend it as a simple, portable, and affordable option for a display tablet (right now it’s on sale until 02-20-23)

If you can can you do Skeptic for the nsfw alphabet pls? Ty 😇
A = Aftercare (What they’re like after sex)
I can see him as someone who actually likes cuddling with a partner. It won’t be his idea though, acting more like a begrudgingly accepting cat. Otherwise, he’s immediately back to doing whatever task he had been doing before. It’s why laptops are a great invention, they’re portable.
B = Body part (Their favorite body part of theirs and also their partner’s)
On himself: Legs. It feels like an odd answer but I actually think he’d like how lanky he is, how they look in certain clothing. Especially if he looms over his partner.
On his partner: Thighs. Even more if they're wearing thigh-high stockings too.
C = Cum (Anything to do with cum basically… I’m a disgusting person)
Not a fan of “marking” as the heathens would put it. It’s just more of a hassle to clean up if you spread it over their body. More so since I feel like he produces more cum than average. He’s all about practicality. Condoms make for easy clean-up.
D = Dirty Secret (Pretty self explanatory, a dirty secret of theirs)
Has cameras constantly following his partner, and in every room of their place. Multiple angles too. Has watched them undress, bath, and masturbate countless times. All recorded and stored away.
E = Experience (How experienced are they? Do they know what they’re doing?)
He’s not a virgin, having probably only two legitimate relationships before but they didn’t last very long. He’s had a few one night stands, but only because he just needed to let out the built up tension.
F = Favourite Position (This goes without saying.)
Lotus and Captain
G = Goofy (Are they more serious in the moment, or are they humorous, etc)
He’s in the moment, completely serious. However, he’s not that much of a hardass if his partner starts laughing about something (as long as it’s not directed towards him). If his partner gets in a fit of giggles because they were extra sensitive, he’ll probably get them to laugh again.
H = Hair (How well groomed are they, does the carpet match the drapes, etc.)
He tries to keep it trimmed but forgets at times so it’ll get a little messy down there. He also grows the hair rather quickly and it comes in pretty thick. It’d be pretty easy to see if his pants hang a little low.
I = Intimacy (How are they during the moment, romantic aspect…)
If he actually cares about his partner then he’s actually got a softer side to him. He’s very intimate. He struggles with making anything romantic but he wouldn’t be opposed if his partner did anything.
J = Jack Off (Masturbation headcanon)
Hardly ever. Either ignores the once in a blue moon urge to or waits until he can be with a partner. If he does, it’s more like a chore. Even when on the phone with a partner, it’s mostly for them. It’s nothing but foreplay for him, since it’ll lead to proper sex anyways. For him at least.
K = Kink (One or more of their kinks)
Hair pulling
Bondage
Phone sex
Erotic photos
Hickeys
L = Location (Favourite places to do the do)
At his desk. Despite his insistence that he doesn’t like being bothered, he can appreciate a slight distraction since he gets so lost in his own world. He doesn’t know what a break is.
M = Motivation (What turns them on, gets them going)
Play with his hair. Running your fingers through it or better yet massage his scalp. That and kissing his neck.
N = NO (Something they wouldn’t do, turn offs)
Latex. It makes his skin crawl.
O = Oral (Preference in giving or receiving, skill, etc)
Surprisingly decent at giving oral but they’d have to ask for it. He won’t volunteer. Actually like blowjobs, since they can just be under his desk while he can continue doing work on his computer.
P = Pace (Are they fast and rough? Slow and sensual? etc.)
Slow and hard, most of the time. He feels like someone who doesn’t rush things like this.
Q = Quickie (Their opinions on quickies rather than proper sex, how often, etc.)
He’d consider oral a quickie, but other than that he doesn’t really like them.
R = Risk (Are they game to experiment, do they take risks, etc.)
Up for experimenting, since that’s how he figured out how he liked most of his kinks and interests. He’ll offer random things to his partner seemingly out of the blue. Risks are fine to an extent. He’s not going to risk his reputation.
S = Stamina (How many rounds can they go for, how long do they last…)
Above average stamina. He can come back to back fairly easily, with decent time in between, but after that he’s done.
T = Toy (Do they own toys? Do they use them? On a partner or themselves?)
He’s fond of using them every once in a while to shake things up, but he doesn’t want them used often. It’s like a competition. He doesn’t like competition.
U = Unfair (how much they like to tease)
A lot. Too much. He’s got more willpower than his partner and will lead them on only to go off to do something for a few hours. Making them beg when they’re being particularly annoying? It’s a must.
V = Volume (How loud they are, what sounds they make)
Relatively quiet. Soft grunts and maybe a shaky moan if he’s close.
W = Wild Card (Get a random headcanon for the character of your choice)
Used to have a tongue and nipple piercings in his youth. Will die before someone finds that out.
X = X-Ray (Let’s see what’s going on in those pants, picture or words)
Longer than average but not that much girth. It’s lanky like him.
Y = Yearning (How high is their sex drive?)
Slightly below average. Not actively thinking about it that often.
Z = ZZZ (… how quickly they fall asleep afterwards)
He’ll be pretty tired but he won’t fall asleep that easily. He’ll be stubborn about it.

Writing Interview Tag Game!
This was fun! Thanks for the tag @dr-demi-bee :D!
If I tagged you in an answer and you want to steal it from me, please do. Otherwise...hey friend @captain-castaway // @scrawlingmouse! And open tagging anyone else. There's only a select few I feel I can annoy these days.
Under a readmore because I, per usual, am long winded and do not want to ruin people's dashes.
When did you start writing?
Oh I was quite little, probably 6 or 7? I have a distinct memory of standing in my grandparents' kitchen, showing my step-grandmother a little flip-book I made about a frog when I was around that age. I had some of my poetry published in a children's anthology too. Unfortunately, at that time most of my family were more interested in my math and science scores than anything creative I did.
I got into forum-based roleplay when I was 10 (joined a Warrior Cats guild on Neopets) and from there really, the rest was history. That's why I say that I'm truly an rper at heart, to this day rp and collaboration are still where I have the most fun writing. But otherwise, I got into writing solo stuff when I was 10 or 11 and met friends who actually enjoyed creating as much as I did and didn't treat writing like some weird interest that got in the way of school. And I started writing and posting fanfiction when I was around 14 or 15.
Are there different themes or genres you enjoy reading than what you write?
I'm pretty much in the boat of what you see is what you get. I enjoy sci-fi and fantasy and primarily write sci-fi and fantasy. Specifically, my subgenres could be specified as 'post-apocalypse' and 'urban fantasy' in such a way that they're pretty indistinguishable from each other. High fantasy counts as my guilty pleasure. My reading picks usually follow suit.
I guess the one place where I do split is romance. I tend to write a lot more romance than I read. Honestly, I'm not really a huge fan of reading romance...but I think that's a combination of me being incredibly picky on what I want in a romance and an over-saturation of the market that I'm not willing to put the work into to find exactly what I'm looking for.
Is there a writer you want to emulate or get compared to often?
I'm not really trying to emulate any one style or author. I believe it is important to read multiple authors and get an idea of what's out there--both classic and contemporary--but at the end of the day, I do want my own, distinct voice in my works.
That said, I was compared to Gaiman a few times in my creative writing courses in college. Current scandal aside, I still consider it to be a compliment. Funny too, given I've never read any of his works. Also, I list Ray Bradbury as my favorite author...so I'm sure that influences something.
Can you tell me a bit about your writing space?
"Space" is a generous term.
I have a small Asus laptop that I use as a writing computer. It's tiny and portable and can go wherever, thus I write wherever. Primarily at home, I'm either in the living room sitting in the 15-to-20-year-old rocking chair I inherited from my parents or up in my bedroom, which has access to both a gray loveseat and my bed. There's nothing remarkable about either of these places really. My bedroom has some figures and odd knick-knacks, as well as the stuffed penguin and Eeyore pillow I hug or use as lap pillows.
I've also been known to break out the laptop in the break room at work, at my work desk, and at various Paneras/Starbucks/local cafes throughout the city. I like being malleable.
My home desk is currently in a large room filled with boxes, as we're still unpacking from buying a house. I imagine that once it's a little more filled, I'll be more likely to start writing at my desk again. I want to, it does have all of my fun things (figures, charms, the switchblade I bought at the Ren faire, the standee @gothamcityneedsme got of our OCs together), but for now the desktop is used for gaming almost exclusively.
What's your most effective way to muster up a muse?
Music 100%. Want me to write something? Give me a song, explain to me why it fits what you want me to write, and let me go for 2-3 days. I'll come back to you with something.
Also, not being able to write. Catch me daydreaming and plotting while I'm super busy at work. Nothing brings out a muse faster than 2 hours of mouse colony maintenance that I absolutely do not want to be doing.
Are there any recurring themes in your writing? Do they surprise you?
Hello, yes, I think way too much about this all the time. My answer to this could be a 5k essay on its own. I am restraining myself.
In late high school/early college, I did a turn-heel on all of the angsty and dark stuff I was roleplaying with my group at the time, and instead got really really into the concept of 'hope as spite.' Hope in the face of all the violence. Hope spitting on the cycles that came before you and promising to do better. That's remained true over the years since, and I think it's where I'm going to be remaining for the rest of my time.
My other biggest thing is probably themes regarding identity. I told my AP English teacher in high school my favorite rhetorical device was mirrors/reflections, and that's still true. Primarily, I really like the concepts of lost and rediscovered identities. Rebuilding yourself after a crisis and discovering what parts of you remain, what parts are gone, and what parts are new and forged in the fire that built you.
Other, more common themes include: intergenerational/familial tensions and trauma, martyr complexes, explorations of death, explorations on love (what is selfish vs selfless and how both are necessary), interplay of light and dark dynamics, and I could probably give a whole Ted Talk on why magical healing is terrifying, actually. Lately, chronic illnesses have been creeping into a lot of my characters as well.
Which is all to say, I think about my favored themes and rhetorical devices a lot. None of them really surprise me anymore. A part of you goes into every bit you write, I think, and those all are surely a part of me in some way, shape, or form.
What is your reason for writing?
If I do not, the urge will eat me alive. I'm mostly kidding, I write for fun and as an outlet and escape from day to day life. However, I have tried to quit multiple times and I always only felt worse at the prospect of never writing again.
Is there any specific comment or type of comment you find particularly motivating?
Anything. Anything at all. Writing is an incredibly lonely venture most of the time, and as I said, I'm an rper at heart. If I get anything that signifies there is someone on the other side of the screen enjoying what I'm throwing into the void, it means the world.
That said, I guess the comments that motivate me the most are the ones that actually look and engage with what I've written. Ones that notice little thematics or rhetorical devices that I put into my work, or ones that like the characterizations that I've done (or the real way to my heart, like my OCs). It's something @gothamcityneedsme and I have been doing with each other with our own original stuff for years...so I kinda got used to that and completely forgot that it isn't the norm.
Also, I entered a zine server once after getting accepted and @aevallare informed me one of my application pieces made her feel things. Of course, she had something nice to say to every writer by way of being a sweet human, but it still floored my ass and, quite frankly, I've been chasing that high ever since. It helps on the bad days to remember someone of Alex's caliber found worth in my work...really puts the final nail in the coffin of the imposter syndrome. (And really, please go read her stuff. She's incredible.)
How do you want to be thought about by your readers?
Approachable and honest and genuine. The former is the rper again. I want to talk, I do! I'm just a severely socially anxious mess who can't start a conversation and gets far too nervous about being a bother.
The latter is...well. Look, I'm well aware my writing isn't for everyone, and I don't necessarily want it to be. But I do want it to be honest and something I genuinely wanted to write and put into the world. I also want it to be honest in the sense that I fully believe the messages and emotions I'm trying to convey. A little piece of you goes into everything you write. I don't need everyone to accept or like what I write, but I hope the ones that do know that I mean it.
What do you feel is your greatest strength as a writer?
Dogged perseverance. Outside forces, chronic illness, depression, and imposter syndrome have all attempted to get me to give up writing multiple times in my life. They've nearly succeeded more than once...but nothing has actually succeeded yet.
Also weird, philosophical character studies that no one actually wants, if we're going on a more technical "what's your best form of writing" route.
How do you feel about your own writing?
On the days where I'm trying to build confidence? It's the best thing ever. On the worst of the worst days? I'm one click away from deleting everything I've ever publicly posted.
In general, I'm in the middle. I'm a tiny fandom writer with minimal engagement and no intentions of publishing anytime soon (if ever). But I'm also having fun and I like what I write. That's enough...that's all it needs to be. It can be incredibly frustrating and demotivating at times for any number of reasons, but it's also some of the most fun I've ever had, and at this point I think it's safe to say that I'm never trading that in.
Love what kills you, and when it doesn't it'll make you stronger. Or something.

yea I deleted the post bashing the dual screen laptop cus the screenshot i used didn't show the keyboard or fact that simply stands on a built in stand. and people started calling it a tablet
but i still think it's a less-than-ideal product for a few reasons:
1 - While I myself love having multiple monitors I sincerely doubt that it makes much sense to have both at all times for a product designed to be portable. You wouldn't be able to use it on your lap very comfortably I feel. The function only really makes sense at a desk or internet cafe sort of deal. Yes you can use it with the keyboard in standard laptop mode but at that point why get such a product-
2 - The extra concern for durability just probably isn't worth it. Both screens might not shatter if you close it too hard but that shit *will* get scratched up in a backpack. One bad day at the airport (assuming you aren't carrying it on- I doubt you'd be able to use both screens on an airplane) and that thing is Gone. Dust.
3 - No trust me unless ASUS put Wacom EMR in that thing, or even a fully up to date version of MPP, it would be an *awful* experience for drawing on without egregious degrees of stabilizers. Many windows laptops include very cheaply produced pens that have far too much wobble and inconsistency to comfortably use as a daily driver. Its usually fine for note taking or using as a pointer- but otherwise it's probably cheaper and much better to use a 12-16in drawing tablet plugged into the laptop- otherwise the ergonomics and detachable keyboard and extra screen space do make it seem fairly compelling as an illustration device I suppose!
4 - Oh God The Repairability
But yeah anyways at like 1500+ USD it's absolutely not something I'd Recommend Necessarily. Unless it's a deeply user serviceable device with good specs and an actually usable pen protocol, all it's probably good for is getting attention and maaaayyybee power users that cycle laptops every three years. Which is probably the target audience anyway.
#also for reference ive used a Surface Pro 5 as a primary drawing tablet for over a year#and it *was* fine for only some of that time but the wobble was infuriating at some point#and that uses mpp 2.0#which is the same tech that 90% of “stylus compatible” windows laptops use#but theyre all also worse due to having poorer digitizer layers than the surface line typically#or just use worse pens

Streamline Your Office Setup with These Essential Tips and Gadgets
Setting up an office can be a daunting task, whether you're working from home or establishing a new workspace for your business. From choosing the right furniture to integrating the latest technology, each decision plays a crucial role in creating an efficient and productive environment. Here's a quick guide to help you get started.
Office Setup Times: Tips for Efficiency

Trial Run: Spend a day working in your newly set up office to identify any issues or adjustments needed. Pay attention to your comfort, productivity, and overall workflow.
Feedback Loop: Regularly assess your setup and make changes as necessary to optimize your work environment.
Must-Have Tech and Gadgets for Your Office
Smart Lighting:
Philips Hue: These smart bulbs allow you to adjust the lighting based on your needs, helping to reduce eye strain and improve focus.
LIFX Smart Bulbs: Another great option, offering a range of colors and brightness levels that can be controlled via an app or voice assistant.
Ergonomic Keyboard and Mouse:
Logitech MX Keys: A wireless keyboard designed for comfort and efficiency, perfect for long hours of typing.
Logitech MX Master 3: An ergonomic mouse with customizable buttons and excellent precision.

Sunless Lives Part 5: I Should Have Trusted You
Gina spills. So does Simon.
~2070 words
Content warnings: IV, vomit, fever, negative self-talk
First, Previous, Next, Masterlist
~~~
Simon was asleep when Matthew and Gina went to check on him after they finished eating, curled up in bed with the bloodstained blanket cast to the floor. Miraculously, the omelet was gone - Simon must’ve eaten it at some point. Matthew delicately lifted Simon’s wrist and checked his pulse. He gave Gina a reassuring nod; it was steady. Simon would physically recover from this.
The quiet moment gave Matthew time to finally look around Simon’s room - not that he was snooping, just taking in his surroundings. There was a closet door, a bed, bedside cabinets, a dresser, a desk with a weirdly chunky lamp on it and… that was it. No posters, no art. Everything was generic beige and white. It looked more like a hotel room than someplace someone actually lived.
He and Gina returned to the main room, and he observed the same. After the bloodstain, the most interesting thing in the room was the bookcase. He drifted over to it. It was only four shelves high, and the top two were stuffed with books about vampires. Long-form case studies, VIU training manuals, early vampire-hunter biographies. In the lower two, he was surprised to find mostly fantasy fiction: Tolkien, Martin, and Sapkowski were the few he recognized. Then, in the bottom corner: self-help books. They had titles like Trauma: A Dissection and The PTSD Workbook. Matthew backed off, once again feeling like an invader in Simon’s home.
Thump-thump-thump.
Gina got to the door before he did; she looked through the peephole.
“It’s the Captain,” she informed Matthew with a hint of disgust. She yanked the door open.
“Sir.”
“Ruiz.” Captain Isles stepped inside, laden with three laptop bags over his shoulder, two grocery bags in one hand and a short metal rod in the other.
“Wynn said you needed this,” he held out the rod - a collapsible IV stand.
“Thanks,” Gina said stiffly, taking it from him. It hardly mattered now that Simon’s second transfusion was almost complete and the bag had hung on his bed frame with no issue, but Gina made no comment.
Isles stood still, watching her expectantly with an eyebrow quirked, clearly waiting for her to relieve him of the rest of his baggage. Matthew stepped in instead.
“Here, let me get that.” He took the grocery bags and set them on the kitchen counter. Captain Isles dropped the laptop bags on the couch, his eyes tracking the bloodstain on the carpet. As usual, he kept his cool and didn’t react.
“I brought your portable workstations. No reason you can’t catch up on paperwork while you're here.”
Gina noted the number of bags.
“You brought Simon’s too. You expect him to work right now?” she asked.
“Of course not right now,” Isles dismissed her, “But eventually, yes. Now I should…” He stopped oddly. Matthew started working up the nerve to ask him to stay with Simon for a while, but Gina beat him to the punch.
“Simon’s asleep,” Gina snapped. Then, as an afterthought, “Sir.”
Captain Isles tilted his head at her, then nodded.
“Of course. I’ll be leaving then,” he made for the door, “I’ll keep Wynn and Barre in the building today, text them whatever you need. And clean that up.” He gestured at the bloodstain, and then he was gone before either of them could respond, the door closing with a click of finality.
Matthew looked back and forth between the door and Gina.
“Simon really wanted to see him!” he complained.
“And you think that would have been a good idea?” Gina challenged him.
“I don’t know, but it’s what Simon wanted, doesn’t that matter? And we didn’t even tell Isles what happened, we need help -”
“You - Ugh, you don’t know anything!” Gina huffed, and she marched over to the kitchen and started putting away the groceries, just barely resisting slamming cabinet doors. Matthew watched her, bewildered.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” he asked.
She eyed him as she shoved canned soup into a cabinet. Eventually she decided to spill.
“Before you got here, Simon and Isles had some kind of relationship,” she said, “They tried to keep it secret but we all knew. Then they broke up right before you were brought on. Fridge.” She shoved a carton of orange juice into his hands.
“Oh…” Some things clicked into place as Matthew fumbled the juice into the fridge.
“They’ve had this weird dynamic ever since,” Gina continued, “Like Isles cares about Simon, but is also pissed at him. Whereas Simon still worships Isles, just… platonically, now.”
It made more sense now - the way Isles seemed to care in some way for Simon, but was also harsh with him. And maybe… a bit jealous.
“But you don’t think it was… abusive or anything, right?” Matthew asked. Gina paused what she was doing, leaning against the sink. She looked exhausted.
“I don’t know,” she said, her voice low, “But the facts are that Isles is his boss, over twice his age, and he lives at work, it’s not like they can get away from each other.”
“And it sure sounded like Isles is the only reason Simon can live here at all,” Matthew recalled, “If Isles was telling the truth, anyway, Simon could be dead if it weren’t for him.”
Or ‘worse’ - whatever the captain had meant by that.
“It’s not the best foundation,” Gina agreed. Then she jabbed his chest with a bunch of celery.
“Don’t tell anyone I told you. I’ll not be known as a gossip.”
“You, a gossip?” Matthew scoffed, “Like anyone would believe that.”
~~~
Thump-thump-thump.
Simon awoke with a start, clamping a hand over his own mouth with practiced speed. His palm was cold and clammy against his lips. His brightly-lit bedroom loomed around him.
No no no no -
“It’s the Captain,” he heard distantly.
Relief washed over him, then shame. That’s right. Gina and Matthew were there. Taking care of him. Seeing the worst. If only Chris had stayed from the beginning - but he was here now. Simon tried to push himself upright, but pain burned through his head, shoulder, back, and ribs and the dizziness sent him flopping back down like a ragdoll. All he could do was listen as Christian came and left, and his heart sank. Then he heard voices raised in argument.
“Simon really wanted to see him!”
“And you think that would have been a good idea?”
“I don’t know, but it’s what Simon wanted, doesn’t that matter?”
Matthew.
Simon liked Matthew, he really did. Matthew was always looking out for him, always complimenting his work, not his face or his body, his work…
Please trust us. Trust me.
“We didn’t even tell him what happened, we need help -”
Simon was suddenly overwhelmed by foggy, distorted memories of pulling Matthew’s gun on him. He felt his already-feverish face burn even hotter with embarrassment. Matthew had to think he was crazy now. There was no way Simon could explain that - no way he would.
I totally like you, but when you dragged me into the bedroom I thought you were going to treat me the way my ex did, and I didn’t want that to be our first time. Not that you’d ever do that. Would you? Of course not - oh, what ex?
Just the dead one.
(Who was just here, wasn’t she?)
If he could have, Simon would’ve sat bolt upright. Because she had been there, hooking up an IV and feeding him pills and scolding him about groceries just like she always did. She had been about to leave and Simon had grabbed her hand, begged her to stay, because at least with her he knew exactly what he’d get and it would, in some small part, be comfort. He missed her, after all.
But she had jerked her hand away. Softly apologized, in a way that was very unlike her.
Because it wasn’t her.
The realization that he had grabbed and nearly kissed the hand of Gina, of all people, sent bile surging up Simon’s throat. He desperately twisted his body and managed to vomit over the side of the bed, onto the bedspread on the floor. He hacked and coughed, and stared down at the mess dimly. His ribs felt like they had been broken all over again, and a dull pain throbbed in his arm.
When did I eat eggs?
“Simon!” Matthew threw open the door. Simon didn’t even have the energy to flinch. Matthew rushed over to him, any caution he might have gained from their last interaction forgotten.
“Damn… Is it all out?” He rested a hand on Simon’s back. Which wasn’t… so bad.
“Mhm,” Simon managed.
“Okay. Let’s roll you over.” Matthew took hold of Simon’s shoulders and rolled him onto his back, fully back on the bed.
“You pulled your IV out,” he observed.
“Oh?” Simon lifted his hand in the air and wiggled his fingers. Sure enough, blood leaked from the crook of his arm.
“It was about done, anyway.” Matthew disappeared from Simon’s vision, then returned a second later with the bite kit, opening it up on the bed next to Simon. He caught Simon’s wrist where it swayed in the air with one hand and mopped up the blood with an antiseptic wipe in the other. Simon suddenly felt like a little kid, their sticky hands and arms ever-so-gently manhandled by a parent with wet wipes. It was almost a memory he could place, almost something he could picture -
“Done!” Matthew patted a large band-aid onto the small puncture and lowered Simon’s arm to his side, ignorant of Simon’s feverish daydreams, “Now, uhh…” he looked off to the side.
“Rinse his mouth out,” came Gina’s voice from where he was looking. Simon tensed. She was out of his eyeline - of course she’d keep her distance, after what a creep he’d been.
“Right!” Matthew said, trying to keep his voice upbeat, “Let’s sit you up.”
Matthew worked with Simon to adjust him into a slightly more upright position that still wouldn’t stress his ribs, supported by pillows. Mathew's hands danced around him, moving his arms, lifting his shoulders, supporting the back of his head; Simon was too exhausted and dizzy to process the way Matthew was touching him and handling his body, but he knew he would later. Once he was upright his eyes focused enough to see Gina in the doorway. She watched him for a moment, grim and wide-eyed, before slipping out of the room.
“Here,” Matthew’s voice brought Simon’s gaze back to the other man’s face. Matthew was holding up a half-empty glass of water.
“Swish and spit,” he ordered.
Simon’s arm half-lifted to take the glass, but Matthew already had it tipped at his lips. Simon took in a mouthful and let it swirl around, picking up bits of sick along the way. Then he had no choice but to dribble it back into the glass Matthew still held, discoloring the water.
Why do I have to be so fucking gross.
“Here,” Gina was suddenly at Matthew’s side, trading the fouled glass with a fresh, full one and a pack of saltines before retreating again.
Matthew set the glass on the bedside table, then fished out a cracker and snapped it in half.
“Open.” He lifted a morsel of cracker to Simons lips.
Embarrassing. Embarrassing. This whole thing is embarrassing.
Simon accepted the cracker, chewing slowly and swallowing hard. It dried his mouth out, but Matthew was right there with the glass of water.
I never needed help like this before, did I? Not unless I was dying. But I’m not dying, so…
Matthew fed him slowly, but consistently, alternating small pieces of saltines with sips of water. Simon felt his discomfort at the situation fading, along with his focus. His eyes wandered from tracking Matthew’s hand, up his arm, his shoulders, his lips, to his eyes - brown, with muddy green flecks. Simon tried to stay focused on them as thoughts swam through his head, getting harder and harder to hold on to. He wanted to say something, something important, but his thoughts kept escaping and his mouth was full of crackers.
He didn’t hurt me. Even when he had the gun, he didn’t.
He’s helping, now, even though I shouldn't need it.
Trust? Is that what this is? I think I trust that, if he did hurt me…
It wouldn’t be that bad.

i'm the worst
i kinda write whenever i have time, so sometimes it's at night after work (or on the rare chance i have nothing going on during work!!) so that's at my standing desk with my under desk treadmill going at a stead 1.3 mph. People are always surprised I can type that way, but real talk I'm better this way hahaha.
I also end up writing a lot on my phone, which I hate cause i'm slow as all get out whereas on my computer i'm lightening fast. i end up writing a lot during my kid's gymnastics practice on mondays so that's like an hour on my phone tapping away lol, sometimes i'll wake up with the extensional crisis mode at 2 am and type on the phone then too.
other than that, i have to have music going, lately it's been a lot of country, i kinda go through phases with what i listen to, i prefer songs with lyrics (tbh i think the music is an adhd thing?? i read it's like a help and i've always done it even before the diagnosis lol)
on nights that are nice and i'm without my small human i'll light a mosquito candle, grab a gluten free beer (or 3) and sit out on the back porch with my laptop and portable speaker
sometimes i eat/drink sometimes it's just writing

so MAYBE I spent 4 hours in IKEA on a whim instead of cleaning my flat BUT! BUT!!!!! I bought several forms of Tiny Shelves which as any fule kno makes everything instantly tidier.
added yet another tier to my stack of tea/coffee/cocoa/misc shelves to control The Collection. got trays under all my draining plant pots so I can actually water them. and I got a new monitor stand which is wide enough to fit both my A3 tablet and my A5 tablet underneath and has a shelf with enough space to trade out my work and home laptops easily. plus it's like 3in less deep than my old one, so that's freed up a bunch more desk space.
also of course vitally we did get the Small BLAHÅJ which was the whole point.
I also found a portable freestanding bag situation (toybox from the nursery section) which is both a) a way better option for storing glass recycling and hauling it down 3 flights of stairs than my previous solution "small cardboard box which holds 8 jars/bottles until one of us can be bothered to transfer them into a bag" and b) HAS A REALLY CUTE WHALE ON IT
plus we (Sam) got some new plant friends and the next size up of a lidded pyrex box I've always found super good for lasagne. and Sam got several things he's needed for a while (as well as a wee shark)
in summary did I spend too much money at IKEA and fritter away a full day walking around aimlessly for fun to the point of exhaustion? yes. was it extremely sensible and adult and I'm actually correct in all regards always? perhaps.
#red said#the disadvantage of the new monitor stand is bc the sides are solid it's a lot less good for cable management than the old one#i may need to consider my approach to that#i don't want to tie any laptop cables down bc both chargers need to leave my room relatively frequently#but it's a bit suboptimal right now cause one transformer pack is taking up a big chunk of the shelf#and my work macbook charger is kind of folded around awkwardly to keep it plugged in while the laptop's tucked away#on the other hand my tablets are both tidier and more accessible#so it's 6 of one half a dozen of the other#anyway. i was too productive last thing before bed so although I'm very tired i now can't sleep#but i rearranged things into the new trays and shelves and tidied my desk and sorted out my laundry#so that's not 'cleaned the flat' but given that i got in at 10pm it's not nothing#anyway i got Sam a peace lily and he got another plant too#and talked me out of buying a sweet pepper plant which. he's RIGHT i have already occupied EVERY surface with my chili and tomato seedlings#and buying a plant from IKEA for £8.50 vs buying seeds for like £1.75 and getting several years of multiple plants#just isn't as good an economic proposition#but i want the peppers NOOOOOOOOWWWWWWW#he is right though
