So I've been seeing some debate on whether Legends Z-A (it is in fact Z-A not just Z, as stated by the Official Pokemon YouTube channel) is set in the past or in the future so I'm going break this down.

I think the main reason people think it's set in the future is the digital blueprint of Lumiose City, which is of course very futuristic.

But then that digital blueprint changes to an old timey paper one, suggesting it's in the past.

But if you look at the translation (is that the actual language used in the pokemon universe? Can we actually translate writing in other games using this?) It says "Urban REdevelopment plan" meaning Lumiose city already exists. It could be they are redeveloping the city into its modern iteration (which is what I'm leaning towards personally) but until we know more there is no way to tell for certain.

So are we in the past or future? Well . . .

So, what fresh trauma do y'all think PLZA will give us this time? (Kinda feel like they've generally been steadily getting a bit darker over time, and I'm expecting PLZA to keep that going, especially with how the first Legends game was.)

I feel like SwSh was one of the lighter games we've gotten recently, the only scary thing imo was Gigantamax Eternatus, which only lasted a few short moments. I feel like the other situations shown here had more of an unnerving build-up, or just the mood of the game was darker overall.

Okay so once in a while I play Pokemon Legends Arceus (I finished the 2nd boss I think) and I’m genuinely surprised with Pokemon ZA coming but also felt like it would come… so I’ll throw something in:

What if at the beginning of the game, Zygarde itself greets you? Kinda like:

Arceus: Welcome, Random Child #2. I brought you here because a legendary requested help to send you into the past.

Player: But why are you here? Surely there are other time traveling Pokemon.

Arceus: My first initial is in the title. Now, here’s the one who needs your help.

*A giant Zygarde just comes into view at full screen roaring, scaring the player.*

Zygarde: Listen up, punk. I’m in charge of keeping the earth balanced. I need you to go in there, get every Pokemon in the region, and make sure that the humans don’t mess the ecosystem up more than usual. Got it? Good. Go get em! *just throws the player into Past Lumiose City*
