ICC Champions Trophy 2025: 'Will Miss Playing in India' - Fakhar Zaman Fumes at PCB
Tumblr media
Champions Trophy 2025: Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman has an old connection with the Champions Trophy. The left-hander made his name in international cricket through this tournament's edition played in 2017 when he helped Pakistan win a historic title.
Eight years later, Zaman is back in the mix for the Champions Trophy, however, his place in the squad is still not confirmed. The Champions Trophy 2025 has faced many controversies which were mostly based around India's travel to Pakistan.
With the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirming India not traveling to Pakistan for the tournament, Fakhar Zaman is disappointed but is also excited at the same time to face them in Dubai.

Fakhar Zaman speaks on India not traveling to Pakistan
While speaking to Sports Tak, Fakhar Zaman was asked about India's refusal to visit Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025. He claimed that the Indian team would have received an even grander welcome than what Pakistan received when they traveled to India for the ODI World Cup in 2023.
“If India had come to Pakistan, we would’ve given them an even grander welcome and hospitality but they are not coming. It's fine, but we’re excited to play against them in Dubai,” Fakhar said.
Pakistan travelled to India for the ODI World Cup in 2023 when they played most of their matches in Hyderabad. Out of all the venues, Pakistan played only in Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Kolkata.
They had a disappointing tournament and finished fifth in the points table. They even lost to Afghanistan in what turned out to be a shocking result. As a result, the Men in Green failed to qualify for the semi-finals.

We will miss playing in India - Fakhar Zaman
While speaking on the same platform, Fakhar Zaman admitted that he will miss playing on Indian soil as the team enjoyed a good time in the country during the World Cup 2023. He was also pleased with the kind of support that he received in India during the tournament.
“Yes, we will definitely miss (playing in India) as we enjoyed a lot during our visit there for the ODI World Cup 2023. We were delighted with the kind of support and the hospitality we got there,” Zaman added.
According to the latest agreement between the ICC, BCCI, and PCB, India and Pakistan will not be required to travel to each other's country for the ICC events for the current cycle. While the other teams will play their matches in the host nation, India and Pakistan will play their matches through a hybrid model in any other country.

Fakhar Zaman to be selected in Pakistan's Champions Trophy squad?
India and Pakistan are the only two teams in the Champions Trophy not to have announced their final squads so far. Pakistan is believed to have submitted its preliminary squad but will trim down the squad to 15 players by February 10.
Fakhar Zaman is in line to be selected for the Champions Trophy despite not having played an ODI since the ODI World Cup 2023. Zaman was earlier dropped from Pakistan's ODI squad for the Australia tour after he had criticized the PCB's decision to drop Babar Azam.
Pakistan will open their campaign against New Zealand on February 19 at Karachi. The Men in Green will then face arch-rivals India in Dubai on February 23. They will face Bangladesh in their final group match on February 27 at Rawalpindi.

Australia Dominates Netherlands with Record 309-run Victory in World Cup 2023
Australia’s Record-breaking Victory against Netherlands
Australia recorded the largest margin of victory in the history of the ODI World Cup on Wednesday, crushing the Netherlands by 309 runs as they entirely controlled the proceedings in Delhi.
Australia achieved their third consecutive victory in this event, bowling out the Netherlands for 90 runs in 21 overs while chasing a massive 400 runs for victory. This victory put Australia’s campaign well back on track. For the Dutch, the top scorer was Vikramjit Singh (25).
Zampa takes 3rd successive 4-wicket haul
Leg-spinner Adam Zampa led the Australian bowling attack with his third straight four-wicket haul, while Mitchell Marsh claimed a few scalps.
Australia’s net run rate significantly increased as a result of the victory, moving them up to fourth place on the points table.
In terms of total victories in One-Day International cricket, this one trails only behind India’s 317-run victory over Sri Lanka in Trivandrum earlier this year.
The Maxwell, Warner show in Delhi
The main architects of this triumph were Glenn Maxwell and David Warner, who both scored hundreds to aid Australia in posting 399 for 8 in 50 overs.
Warner batted and hit 104 off 93 balls to lead Australia to 399 for eight, while Maxwell (106 off 44 balls) dominated the Dutch attack to reach his century in just 40 balls.
Maxwell Breaks Record with Sensational Batting Performance
In the process, Maxwell broke the previous record set by Aiden Markram of South Africa, who on October 7 at this same location struck 106 off 49 balls against Sri Lanka. Maxwell had a furious knock, hitting eight sixes and nine fours.

“All I wanted to do was make sure we had a strong finish line. This field is definitely profitable to use a bat (batting first towards the finish), and it seams well in low light. It’s nice to finally have some rhythm in the competition. A major confidence boost, ” said Maxwell, the player of the match.
Marnus Labuschagne got 62 off 47 balls, while Steve Smith also hit a superb 71 off 68 balls.

Men’s ODI WC: Under Lights South Africa Might Be The Best Fast Bowling Unit, Says Aakash Chopra
Tumblr media
Cricket World Cup:  Former India opener Aakash Chopra believes that under lights, South Africa has the best fast-bowling attack in the ongoing 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. Chopra’s comments come after Proteas bowled out Bangladesh for 233 in defence of 382/5 to win by 149 runs at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday. Chopra also made a mention of young pacer Gerald Coetzee, who picked 3-62 for the Proteas against Bangladesh. “Lungi Ngidi did not play and instead Lizaad Williams was given a chance who is a very consistent wicket-taking bowler. And I honestly think under lights this might be the best fast bowling unit in this tournament.” “Gerald Coetzee has made everyone forget that Anrich Nortje is not playing, and we all know what a world-class bowler Nortje is. I also want to commend Marco Jansen, who somehow always gets wickets regardless of the conditions and situation,” said Chopra in an episode of JioCinema’s daily sports show ‘#AAKASHVANI’. With the batting, South Africa were propelled by opener and wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock scoring his third hundred of the World Cup, a smashing 140-ball 174 and is currently the highest run-scorer of the competition with 407 runs from five matches. Now in second place in the points table, South Africa will next face Pakistan at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday. Chopra applauded de Kock’s performance and admitted it will be hard for regular skipper Temba Bavuma to be back in the playing eleven after missing out on last two matches due to health issues, in which South Africa’s batters have runs aplenty. “Quinton de Kock is batting on another level and the best thing about his play style, compared to other batters, is that he always plays for the team. One can never say that he is being selfish, he is just so clinical that he does not stop putting runs on the board.” “We also saw Aiden Markram who provided stability on the other end with De Kock and led the South African side quite well. I believe that it will be hard for Temba to be part of this team even if he’s fit.” “On the other hand, Heinrich Klassen gave an extremely explosive performance smashing 90 runs off just 49 balls – this was even after he was consistently giving the strike to De Kock!” he concluded. Making history at the World Cup, Rohit Sharma is the only Indian to ever pull off this unusual feat
Rohit Sharma struck 50 or more ODI sixes in a calendar year, making him the first player from India and third overall.
Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, is playing brilliantly in the current ODI World Cup. On Sunday in Dharamsala, during India’s game against New Zealand, the seasoned opening batsman accomplished an uncommon achievement.
Tumblr media
After hitting 50 or more ODI sixes in a calendar year, Rohit became the first player from India and the third overall. Only AB de Villiers of South Africa and legendary West Indies batsman Chris Gayle have hit or more maximums in a calendar year before Rohit. After smashing New Zealand pacer Matt Henry for a six in the second over of India’s 274-run chase, Rohit accomplished the feat.
Batters with 50 ODI sixes in a calendar year
58 – AB de Villiers (2015) 56 – Chris Gayle (2019) 53 – Rohit Sharma (2023)
Rohit scored a blistering 46 runs in the 12th over, but Lockie Ferguson removed him with India needing to reach a target of 274 runs.
“Very good tournament beginning. Half the job is done. It’s crucial to maintain balance. To avoid planning too far ahead. It’s critical to remain in the now. Shami seized the chance wholeheartedly. He is a skilled bowler and has expertise in these circumstances. We were looking at more than 300 at one point. We are proud of our back end bowlers. I’m having fun with my batting. Both are different personalities but we (Him and Gill) compliment each other.
Glad we came out on top. Very little to say. This is what Kohli has done for us for a very long time. He believed he could complete the task. We lost a couple of wickets in the middle, but Jadeja and Kohli got us back,” Rohit stated following the game. Earlier, in Sunday’s top-of-the-table match at Dharamsala, Daryl Mitchell struck a brilliant century to lead New Zealand to 273 all out against India. Following their invitation to bat first, New Zealand lost their opening pair early on, but Mitchell (130) and Rachin Ravindra (75) combined for 159 runs to turn the tide of the innings.
The two beat Sunil Gavaskar and Kris Srikkanth’s 1987 record of 136 to create the highest stand between the two nations at a World Cup for any wicket.
In his maiden tournament debut, Mohammed Shami, a fast bowler, recorded figures of 5-54 to help India rally in the last ten overs.
Despite Ravindra’s departure in the 34th over, Mitchell continued to push for his sixth tonne in an ODI.

[ad_1] File photo of India vs Pakistan match.© AFPArch-rivals India and Pakistan will be up against each other in the ODI World Cup 2023 on Saturday. The high-profile game will take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Both the teams are undefeated in the ongoing tournament so far registering two wins in apiece. Talking about the Rohit Sharma led team, it defeated Australia by six wickets in its campaign opener and then routed Afghanistan by an eight-wicket margin in a one sided game. Their net run rate (NRR) is +1.500. (Scorecard | Points Table)[embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4jngYJmRog[/embed]On the other hand, Babar Azam-led Pakistan defeated Netherlands by 81 runs in their opening game before handing a six-wicket defeat to Sri Lanka in a high-scoring encounter in Hyderabad. The match also saw Pakistan registering the highest-ever successful ODI chase in World Cup history. Their NRR is +0.927.While both India and Pakistan will be carrying good form, there are also some areas of concern for them going into the game. Here are the major issues that might trouble India -The Selection DilemmaWhether to give benched player Suryakumar Yadav a chance in the crucial match against Pakistan or not must be in the mind of the selection panel. The dilemma arises not only because of the abilities that Suryakumar possesses but also because Shreyas Iyer has failed to impress so far.Another selection dilemma would be revolving around the possible inclusion of Mohammad Shami. The star pacer is yet to feature in any game this World Cup, but his familiarity with the Narendra Modi Stadium might benefit India more than any other player. The venue is Shami's home ground in Indian Premier League where he plays for Gujarat Titans.Rohit Sharma vs Shaheen AfridiThough Rohit will be entering the Pakistan game on the back of a sensational 131-run knock, his struggle against left-arm pacers at the start of an inning is known to all. Considering the weightage Rohit's wicket holds, India would want the star batter to continue his good form. The Toss FactorThe toss could play a crucial role in the India vs Pakistan game. Chasing is comparatively easier at the Narendra Modi Stadium, which usually offers belter tracks. Under lights, the dew factor comes into play which gives an upper hand to the chasing side. If India bowl second, they definitely need to post a big total on the board to give a tough fight to Pakistan.Topics mentioned in this article [ad_2] Source link
