poem recipe!
ingredients:
these words - exhale, liquefy, apology
present tense
a mention of fungi/spores/shrooms etc.
directions:
make a brain dump for what those three words stir up in you. can you connect any of the feelings/images, even by a thread? (For example, when I apologize, I often feel physically weakened. Like the state of me changes in real time with my words. From solid to liquid...)
Use the tense to your advantage - I find that present tense helps me expand on the atmosphere in my poetry, allowing me to take a break from the "plot". Others will want to describe actions and compelling forces in real time, it's up to you!
i highly suggest spending like 20 minutes watching a fungi documentary video or just scrolling through pics of those fuckers beforehand, because that shit is inspiring when nothing else is. You can write a poem to a mushroom. Or about a mushroom. Or about the imagined experience of floating from shroom to shroom on their spores like a magic carpet. Whatever floats your boat.
and, if you're going to follow this recipe, please feel welcome to share with the class! :)
+ + also pls let me know if you'd like these poem recipes to be more/less specific and structured in the future because I had a lot of fun making this.

All This Time.
I was going through random, unknown songs, Tunes I don’t know, tunes a computer thinks I would like... Does the computer know me better than I know myself? Does the computer write my poetry, not me? A song named "All This Time," an old, emotional, teenage one a song I would have liked when I was rebellious. But not anymore, because I'm tired. The title hit me in the face: All this time. All this time... I listened to the song, wishing the lyrics matched the ones I had printed in my head, but they didn't. Maybe it was a song I was meant to write and publish, Something that was meant to be a sign. Sometimes I wonder: would it be public humiliation if I self publish my writings? Should someone do it for me so I don't feel it? Should I go anonymous?
But I like the attention, positive or negative. All this time. All those nights. All those words. All those songs, all of you, and... none of me. It's a lot of time really, it is but I didn't realize it until now.
All this time, my heart crying for the unknown, Wanting something to want it, not knowing whether it would be good or not. Maybe that's life: we want things. Maybe all the things I ever wanted were as cruel as you, and maybe I'm a true masochist and should accept it. I do accept it; it's bittersweet anyway. All this time, all this time. Does the song have to be this bad? Is my destiny cursed and doomed? All this time, thinking about you, caring about you. All this time, it feels like a decade... A month or two summed up by me just thinking about you
All this time. Maybe I should've done what I always do: let you go far with everything you want.
That's the only way I keep the men I ever want. All this time. All this time.

Typewriter, aged, its peeling sighs fall semi corporeal upon a daze of paper and time
half printed, half phantom
not unlike our being in this dominion of longing and feeling, senses
that ripple, faces and that soporific taste of lilting summer sun.

Welcome to GOetry! A weekly poetry club.
Every Monday, you'll receive a new poetry prompt and have until the following Monday to submit your poetic creations. Come join the fun! Post your finished work under the #GOetry and tag me @isiaiowin so I can see your work. Thank you so much to everyone who participated last week and surprised many artists with poetry inspired by their work! Amazing to see so much love shared.
This week’s prompt:
Tumblr media
We have something to celebrate this week—over 100 poetry works have been added to the GOems collection on AO3!
In honour of this milestone, we're crafting Cento poems using lines from the Good Omens book or the Bible. I'd love to see poems that are at least 100 words long.
What is a Cento poem?
A Cento, from the Latin word for "patchwork garment," is a poem composed entirely of verses or passages from other authors' works.
Example:
New york times

And most of all: Have fun!

Five Words Friday: a Good Omens Poetry Prompt Challenge!
Tumblr media
In the Whickber Street Writers Association discord, we've recently been putting together some poetry prompts.
The idea for this challenge is that our members suggest and vote for 5 words that everyone can then write a Good Omens-themed poem about.
If you'd also like to take part, the words for this week are:
Ink
Feral
Hunger
Dew
Wanton
How to take part:
This challenge runs until Friday 13th September (at the moment, we're running this challenge every 2 weeks)
You can decide if you want to use all the words or just some - we want people to have fun with this, so we're not going to make it a rule to use all of them if you don't want to
Format/structure is also up to you! Freeform, nonets, haikus, couplets, odes - whatever appeals most. The idea is for folks to feel inspired creatively, and there are lots of possibilities out there. You may find this helpful for some ideas
If you choose to post online, feel free to tag us! We'd love to see what the fandom comes up with and to reblog it too 💜 Have fun!

poem recipe
ingredients:
a combination of sensory descriptors of your kitchen - bonus points if you mush it all up into synesthesia (ex: the strained whir of the microwave tastes like a meal cooked by my exhausted mother)
something you can see outside your kitchen window (make it up! make it spectacular! or make it mundane, idk it's your poetry.)
mention water temperature
mention someone in your life who you think is a good cook. you don't have to even mention their cooking.
directions:
let the title run into the first line of your poem
a watched pot never boils! don't edit/revise until you have 200 words down
i'm a big fan of setting my writing vibe to some kind of media, and this youtube video of a cozy kitchen with chopping/plating sounds is perf for this. time to lock in girls
+ if you're going to follow the recipe, please feel free to share with the class :)

writing prompts! all about sleep edition
and it troubled me and worried my sleep
but for the faces I saw in my half-sleep
do the stars retreat behind the blue to sleep in their ocean beds?
life is more than words spoken in your sleep
too old to move, too young to sleep
I need an avalanche to wake me from this sleep
I don't mind a little swimming if it helps you sleep
sleep is just my nemesis of sorts, something I chase without reprieve
I'll sleep again knowing I can't hide my guilt
I sent you sunflowers, will you sing me to sleep?
I can hardly dream if I don't sleep
what elixir are we drinking tonight? will it help us sleep while our eyes are open wide?
we must be quiet because the monsters are sleeping
winter was ages ago. I'm still sleeping it off
the quiet of a sleeping house
they say go to sleep, that sleeping is a must
if I stitched your constellations to the quilt of my night sky, would you watch over me as I slept?
he never had a body but he slept beside me on the bed
I emptied my intentions into the lake where I slept
and as I slept, I dreamed
while you're sleeping I am waiting for your lungs disappear
the city sleeps behind us in the rearview mirror
I'm holding onto the gravity before sleep can claim my soul
there's an empty bit of sorrow when sleep arrives to take its toll
and when I sleep beside you there is nothing left to fear

-wolverine, alone-
a millipede has more faces than legs– one
a baboon’s byzantium snarl or number two
the flutter of a hare whose back is fastened with silkworm chiffon
a stone is no more than a bullet with a back yet to be broken
saturn’s rings shaping four elements, an ouroboros,
tongues of flame water the front yard hurricane
scattered bolide pieces, a starshine bangle
transcendental, we fly on buffalo back but below
do i not see you swimming there, with the
turtle that carries a holy spirit keychain, that jungle matrix?
i search for pale blue colors but i believe swatch 6785 is best
any entity sniffing about here is coated in it, a nebulous hue
but most of us are just in search of the teapot– my teapot
the uncle that hands it to me has not changed his robes
or trimmed the hairs of his beard since his son held
the last egg, fortress of combustion and first-rate engines
these wyverns, amphipteres, wyrms, and drakes, where else
do you think the light could possibly come from?
knuckle to knuckle, fist to fist, the phosphorescence of two eyes
arrows circling, soaring on something paper-light, paper kites
in my iceberg palace, the cold feels no different from home’s.

GOetry Monday: Espinelas
Welcome to GOetry! A weekly poetry club.
Every Monday, you'll receive a new poetry prompt and have until the following Monday to submit your poetic creations. Come join the fun! Post your finished work under the #GOetry and tag me @isiaiowin so I can see your work.
The concrete poems from last week were so much fun to see! I loved all the creativity. Really well done, everyone! Thank you for participating and sharing your work.
The prompt of this week:
Form: Espinela
Word: Speechless
What is an Espinela poem:
An espinela is a traditional Spanish poetic form named after its creator, the poet Vicente Espinel. The structure of an espinela consists of ten lines, known as a décima, divided into two stanzas, with a specific rhyme scheme and syllable count.
First stanza has four lines. (rhyming scheme is ABBA)
Second stanza has six lines. (rhyming scheme is ACCDDC)
Eight syllables per line.
Example:
Indulge to Bulge - Ronovan Hester
Blissful longing of butter fat, Floating above the sea of blame Renders worthy of the blue flame. What’s now a spare tire, once was flat. Crying for more from the spoiled brat, Brings forth the lazy quelling hands. Then blames the obese on lax glands. Fail to heed the words of the wise Leads to chaffed thighs or heart that dies. Toss the flans, cans, and frying pans.
I'm looking forward to seeing all your work, but most of all, have fun! ~Moon 💚
