♡ What is a bang?

A bang is an event that pairs writers and artists together to work on a project. The writers will anonymously pitch fic summaries, after which artists will choose the one they like on a first-come-first-serve basis to make art for. All works will then be posted under one AO3 collection. A mini-bang is a smaller version of a bang with shorter word count requirements.

♡ What would a fic for this bang entail?

This bang will accept Poolverine fics of any genre, trope, or rating, as long as they involve the Valentine's Day holiday! This could mean anything: the celebration itself or the planning of it, a big bash or a quiet night, one day or through the years, happy or sad or anything in between.

♡ Who can participate?

Everyone! Those under 18 are welcome as well, although they will not be able to pitch explicit fics (writers) or choose them to draw (artists). You don't have to have published a fic before or be at a certain skill level for writing or art to join. These bangs are ultimately to have fun and create and connect with others :)

Bad traits, don't just limit to that! It could be about their traumas, how they view themselves (in a bad light), etc etc. / example; Flor is a bad mom and in hindsight a bad friend, she repeats and she forgets. She laughs it all away, and lies to others and herself. And her coping mechanisms! Eating and such, while eating isn't bad in of itself- eating too-too much is. ~and all of that!

yes Athena helped odysseus plot out how to make the secret passageways/trap doors/hidden rooms/tunnels but at the time she was on a the mortal has to do it himself kick to teach him how to do shit and well. Embressingly she doesn't really remember where the hidden doors are. She knows the tunnel system and her secert personal temple but other than that....not so much. In her defense she doesn't really need to use them and she's been busy the last few decades.

What's your favorite Halloween monster?

Oh vampires absolutely, for a number of reasons:

The origins! The cultural significance! The philosophical implications! The connection to Christianity! Especially the mythological ties to Judas! The possibility to explore social taboos! The ties to mental health issues! The solitude! The gore the blood the predatory intimacy! The free will issue! The poetic inclinations!

Gotta say, they are actually very relatable for a Christian: the being immortal (eternal life), drinking blood to live (Blood of Christ that is), being a victim of a curse that makes you sometimes act against your own will and do harm (as in original sin and broken nature), etc.

I love how they are like a distorting mirror to living people, i've always thought vampires are to humans what demons are to angels and this concept fascinates me

They are also relatable for medical professionals cause y'know taking blood hehehe (this is your PSA to please donate blood as frequently as you can, please people need it!!!)

I love to ponder their physiology as the living dead - is their heartbeat and breathing exclusively voluntary? does the blood go into the digestive system at all or straight to the circulation? what are the limitations of regenerative abilities? so many questions!

There's a funny story about the name itself because they actually come from Slavic culture - Polish people knew them as "upiór" or "wąpierz" and when English writers came to Central and Eastern Europe for inspiration they anglicized the name as "vampire/vampyre". But then the English novels came to Poland and instead of translating vampire as wąpierz for some reason they made a new word "wampir" as if it was foreign which is ridiculous but it stayed 😆

Taika Waititi's What We Do in the Shadows is one of my favorite movies ever, it's hilarious

Oh and goes without saying i hate Twilight series (if you enjoy them that's cool! they just aren't for me), i hate vampire romance genre, anytime someone says they wish they were a vampire i cringe internally so hard. No you don't, you really don't. It's hell on earth, it's eternal suffering and loss of self with no hope of comfort or end, that's the whole point. I generally hate overs*xualization of vampires, too, though if it fits the concept and has a narrative purpose i can let it pass

Color me optimistic but it's the new year, a lot of cool fandom events are happening and I'd like to share.

#AruaniWeek2024 is happening _right now_, but what about other events? Maybe of different typologies & with different schedules?

A couple of exchanges:

Candy Hearts Exchange: exchange focused on relationships (both romantic and platonic) for fics, art & podfics. Minimum words requirement: 300 words. Works due February 7.

Signups are happening now and there are many AoT ships to request/offer in the tagset.

Season of Drabbles Winter Round 2023/24: for drabbles (100 words) and variants (double and triple, sequences). We're at the nominations stage and again, many AoT characters to choose from (and you can nominate more!); signups open on January 7. Works due January 27.

A non-comprehensive list of Duke Thomas stories! :) These are not in any order, feel free to start with what sounds most interesting<3

Batman: Endgame--okay, mostly not in order. This story has admittedly very little Duke Thomas in it, but serves both as his reintroduction and as setup for his coming appearances(it is astoundingly easy to follow what comes next without this story, however, I skipped it when first reading WAR) if you are looking to read it, it's contained in issues #35-40 of Batman vol 2 if I recall correctly

We Are Robin--here we start in on the good stuff! This story is dark. It's bleak. Duke is dark, and bleak, and cynical. He's also quippy. And the entire series is about hope. Batman is gone. The heroes in general are gone. This is the aftermath of Joker wreaking havoc on everything and everyone, and it feels like no one's doing a damn thing. No except the mysterious Nest, and the Robins he's recruited. Truly one of my favorite comic series. Ever.

Batman and the Signal--if you can find the collected edition at the library or the secondhand shop, you should not skip it. Truly, a fun read. Duke tells Batman he "is the shit" and immediately regrets it. Daytime shift. The Hatch. Izzy and Riko. Jay. Just so much. Great times, what's not to love?

All-Star Batman--this has some overlap with the collected edition of BATS. You could totally just read the three issues of BATS and then All-Star Batman separately. The choice is yours. However, the meat of this series that is truly worth highlighting--bat and signal fucked up road trip! Compellingly complex and such a nuisance Harvey Dent! Duke plays flight tunes! Wonderful!

Batman and the Outsiders--another fun series! Bumblebee Bats(Cass and Duke bonding!) Evolution of Duke's powers! Probably one of the weaker series overall on this list but still very fun and worth reading!

Batman Secret Files: The Signal--this one comes with a warning: if you read this you will be Very Upset. Just as the rest of us are. Because it sets up a storyline that is Not expanded upon. That they completely dropped. This issue came out and there was no follow up. Is it good?... mileage varies? Personally, there was some good ideas set up, and some frustrating ones, but truly the biggest problem is that none of the ideas set up matter, because there was no follow up.

Once again, these are all just stories with Duke that I know of off the top of my head! He's had quite the short history, made shorter by DCs chronic inability to decide what the hell to do with him, but there's plenty to be found if you're looking! I'm working on fleshing out the plot for my farawyn & eothiriel fancomic and it's,,, y'all,,, this is literally gonna take me like 20 years to finish 😱🤣🤔🫡

It's gonna be hella long 😳 The first chapter alone is gonna be over 25 pages long, and I already have 3-5 chapters planned for and that's not even close to the finish line lol let alone the halfway mark of the story (i mean, it's probably equal to a long-ish fic, but comics take so much more time to tell 🫠). Also I cannot wait for y'all to meet Lothiriel in just a few pages 🤩

Anyway, I'm thinking of MAYBE adding early access pages of this comic and a few others to a low cost tier on my patreon once it's relaunched/revamped bc I really want to be able to post at least one or two pages a month 🤔 tho i'm hoping to maybe post weekly on patreon, so it'd be early access AND faster update schedule, if I go this route. That way i don't feel guilty for spending hours a day/week working on these comics lolll

anyway, i'm having so much fun working on this story 🥰🤗
