⛽⛽⛽ THE MIDDLE EAST, BY FAR THE LARGEST SUB-REGION MARKET, JUST SURPASSED 2019 PASSENGER NUMBERS AT 102%. NONETHELESS, GOING FORWARD THE REGION’S ANNUAL SCHEDULED DELIVERIES OF NEW AIRCRAFT IN 2025-2027 ARE EXPECTED TO BE ROUGHLY DOUBLE THAT OF 2023; A CLEAR SIGNAL OF THE OPTIMISM REGARDING REGIONAL GROWTH PROSPECTS.
🚒🚒🚒 USAir Flight 427 crashed while on approach to Pittsburgh International Airport following a loss of control and airplane stall precipitated by an encounter with the wake of a preceding Boeing Model 727 airplane
🛎️🛎️🛎️ A Boeing Model 747-200 freighter, powered by four Pratt & Whitney JT9D-7J engines and operated by El Al Israel Airlines, experienced the separation of both engines from the right wing (engines 3 and 4) during climb out from Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam, Netherlands. The separation of both engines resulted in loss of control of the aircraft and subsequent crash, killing all four people on board as well as 43 others on the ground.

A statement from Jeju Air has revealed that Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance was the lead aviation insurer, while AXA XL served as the primary reinsurance provider for the plane that recently crash-landed at Muan International Airport in South Korea, killing all passengers and most of the crew.
The crashed aircraft was insured for aviation insurance worth $1.03651 billion, with a compensation limit of $1 billion and a compensation limit of $36.51 million for damage to the aircraft itself.
The five insurers involved are said to write 99% of aviation insurance through overseas reinsurers.
Regarding individual insurance claims, such as travel insurance, the financial authorities will reportedly set up an expedited compensation centre at the Life and Health Insurance Association to check whether customers are insured and apply for and pay claims.

Load factors in the Middle East and Africa region improved significantly in 2023, as the number of origin-destination passengers reached 105% of 2019 levels, while the number of available seats reached 101%.
Outcomes vary considerably across the region, but all countries below the diagonal line recorded higher load factors in 2023 than in 2019, as the growth in the number of passengers carried (horizontal axis) exceeded that of available seats (vertical axis).

⛽⛽⛽
The Middle East, by far the largest sub-region market, just surpassed 2019 passenger numbers at 102%. Nonetheless, going forward the region’s annual scheduled deliveries of new aircraft in 2025-2027 are expected to be roughly double that of 2023; a clear signal of the optimism regarding regional growth prospects.
Southern Africa remains the only sub-region still below 2019 passenger levels. This is primarily driven by the outcome for South Africa, which stood at 90% of its 2019 passenger levels in 2023.
The load factor improvement across the majority of the countries in the Middle East and Africa region is supportive of improved financial performance. This is particularly relevant for Africa, where historically the industry has struggled to generate sustained profitability, partly due to passenger load factors typically lagging the global average.

🌍🌎🌏 10 December 2024
Strengthened Profitability Expected in 2025 Even as Supply Chain Issues Persist
🛢️⛽🚨
The return on invested capital (ROIC) for the global industry is expected to be 6.8% in 2025. While this is an improvement from the 2024 ROIC of 6.6%, the returns for the industry at the global level remain below the weighted average cost of capital. ROIC is the strongest for airlines in Europe, the Middle East, and Latin America, where it did exceed the cost of capital.
🌍🌎🌏
Total industry revenues are expected to be $1.007 trillion. That is an increase of 4.4% from 2024 and will be the first time that industry revenues top the $1 trillion mark. Expenses are expected to grow by 4.0% to $940 billion.
Passenger numbers are expected to reach 5.2 billion in 2025, a 6.7% rise compared to 2024 and the first time that the number of passengers has exceeded the five billion mark.
Cargo volumes are expected to reach 72.5 million tonnes, a 5.8% increase from 2024.

“In 2025, industry revenues will exceed $1 trillion for the first time. It’s also important to put that into perspective. A trillion dollars is a lot—almost 1% of the global economy. That makes airlines a strategically important industry. But remember that airlines carry $940 billion in costs, not to mention interest and taxes. They retain a net profit margin of just 3.6%. Put another way, the buffer between profit and loss, even in the good year that we are expecting of 2025, is just $7 per passenger. With margins that thin, airlines must continue to watch every cost and insist on similar efficiency across the supply chain—especially from our monopoly infrastructure suppliers who all too often let us down on performance and efficiency,” said Walsh.
IATA highlighted the broad benefits of growing connectivity. The most recent estimates show that airline employment is expected to grow to 3.3 million in 2025. Airlines are the core of a global aviation value chain that employs 86.5 million people and generates $4.1 trillion in economic impact, accounting for 3.9% of global GDP (2023 figures). Connectivity is an economic catalyst for growth in nearly all industries.

Uncovering the Latest Developments in Airlines Procurement Intelligence
The airlines category is anticipated to grow at a CAGR of 7% from 2023 to 2030. The North America region accounts for the largest share. This category is expected to experience significant growth due to the rapid increase in air passenger traffic, and a strong focus on improving the passenger experience. This category expansion is being driven by ongoing advancements in wireless technology and a rising preference for intelligent airport designs. One of the major technologies in the airline industry is the use of blockchain to track luggage, improve passenger comfort and flight data security while obtaining greater transparency and efficiency.
Intelligent airports are growing because of the development of Metaverse, a technology that uses a mix of virtual, augmented reality, and advanced internet. For instance, in 2022, Qatar Airways launched QVerse, where visitors can experience Qatar's website through novel virtual reality. Similarly, in 2022, Bangalore International Airport in collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) launched BLR Metaport to offer a 3D virtual experience of its newly launched terminal.
Autonomous robots are revolutionizing the baggage handling process at airports. They are designed to transport luggage from the check-in counter to the aircraft or from the aircraft to the baggage claim area. For instance, in 2022, in the U.S., Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport and Pittsburgh implemented autonomous robots, named Ottobots, to deliver retail, food and beverages.
The utilization of IoT technology enables the tracking of luggage, monitoring equipment performance, and enhancement of aircraft maintenance. For instance, sensors installed on aircraft engines can identify potential issues and notify maintenance airline crews in advance, averting any breakdowns. Additionally, cloud-based networks and IoT technologies help the passenger from the check-in to boarding process autonomously.
Order your copy of the Airlines Procurement Intelligence Report, 2023 -2030, published by Grand View Research, to get more details regarding day one, quick wins, portfolio analysis, key negotiation strategies of key suppliers, and low-cost/best-cost sourcing analysis
In the airlines category, the use of blockchain traceability can aid various functions related to maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO). By generating digital product passports, it establishes a documented history of parts and components, including their composition and origins. These passports may also incorporate disassembly manuals or instructions. Consequently, airline companies can prolong the lifespan of their products and effectively monitor the subsequent reuse of parts and components. For instance, in August 2022, Boeing partnered with Canada's TrustFlight and RaceRock to create a digital aircraft record system using blockchain technology for aircraft maintenance. The system is an expansion of Boeing-Honeywell's GoDirect Trade platform. The maintenance system would help the company improve productivity and efficiency by 25%.
Labor and fuel cost are the major expenses in the airlines category. Labor costs, which account for 20 - 30% of the airline's operating expenses are generally fixed in the short run. Whereas fuel costs highly depend on the price of oil. Fuel costs account for approximately 10 - 12% of the operating expenses. In January 2023, the freight rate reduced due to a decrease in cargo volumes. The Europe region saw a decrease in cargo ton-kilometers of 20.4%, followed by Asia Pacific, which saw a reduction of 19.0% in January 2023 compared to January 2022.

Hi, friends, welcome aboard! My name is Linda, and I was born and raised in Pittsburgh. I'm 24 and like doing anything creative... and being sassy... just a lil. I post a lot of original stories and journal entries here. I'm obsessed with Southwest Airlines and all things airports, so if that's not your thing... oof, you may hate this, haha. You will also find occasional quizzes on my profile, which are also related to travel. And even my memoir (which I haven't written yet, but hope to post someday, LOL).
I studied Creative Writing at North Hampton Hills International Academy, and when I graduated, I worked at the airport for a while and then went traveling for years and years. After growing up as a spoiled brat around the world and across the country, I now live at the airport hotel with my girlfriend, Nicole, and 2 calico cats who think they own the place.
I LUV nothing better than flying away on an adventure, although working as a flight attendant makes international travel a little more difficult than I would like it to be. When I'm not writing, I usually spend my time spotting airplanes and daydreaming about my next adventure, letting my feelings fly. YOLO!
I had my first flight when I was 4, and to this day, I live to tell about it. From an early age, I knew I wanted to be a flight attendant and I began pursuing that dream after I graduated from college. I remain forever grateful and fiercely loyal to my friends and CoHearts at Southwest Airlines.
My debut story LUV is in the Air was inspired by all the Southwest flights I've taken over the years and features a free-spirited young woman (me), a caring girlfriend (Nicole), emotional moments, and lots of chaos.
In my free time, I watch far too many cat videos, lay around in my pajamas while eating pizza, ice cream, and donuts, play card games with my family, spend time with my friends, and try to keep my spirit high. And yes, I consider myself a sassy badass bitch, yet hate to admit that I'm a drama queen.
Thank you for flying with me, and I hope to see you at the airport!
PEACE OUT, BITCHES! I LUV YA! xoxoxo
