Pinson Mounds
Pinson mounds are located in Tennessee. It is around 1-200CE (WorldHistory.org). Scientist opinion that these mounds were used for
religious, burial, and temporary living purposes. The largest mound is called “Sauls Mound.” It was named after “John Sauls'' the original property owner (Worldhistory.org).
These mounds date back to the Early Woodland Period (3000 BC). The ancient Woodland people are thought to be the ancestors of the “Chickasaw” people, who owned these lands in the 19th century (Worldhistory.org).
The Mobilian people (i.e., composed of different groups of people) are thought to settle in early Tennessee. The following groups have no early settlement in Tennessee: Shawnees and Uchees. The Creeks, Chickasaws, and Cherokees were hostile towards the pioneers and raged wars (Garrett, W.R. and GoodPasture, A.V. History of Tennessee, Its People and Its Institution. Brandon Printing Company, 1900).

he Native American complex is the largest group of Middle Woodland mounds in the United States, and Sauls’ Mound, the name for the great temple mound is the second highest surviving mound in the US at 72 feet tall.  This video explores almost every single mound in the state park, including the geometric earthworks and the Citadel.  Most interesting was the "duck's nest", and the cypress swamp along the Forked Deer River, a sharp change in landscape from the open meadows and mounds area.

@saltwaterwoods I’m gonna take this moment to post my favorite pics from my field school cause the sunsets were amazing and the field next to our bunk houses was sooooo pretty
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first two are the field at 9 pm then 7 am, the third fourth and fifth pics are from the observation deck of an 70 or 80 ft mound (can’t remember exact height) (and that mound in the fourth pic is actually a museum built to look like a mound), and the last one is the parking lot of our field house. I’m dying to go back to Pinson TN again I loved it so much it’s been three years but I can’t get over it

NadaMoo! recalls 26,000 pints of Strawberry Cheesecake Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert
Little Red Rooster Ice Cream Company, d/b/a NadaMoo! (“NadaMoo!”) announced a limited recall of approximately 26,000 pints of its Strawberry Cheesecake Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert because they contain an undeclared almond ingredient.
The recalled products are pints of NadaMoo! Strawberry Cheesecake Non-dairy Frozen Dessert that were distributed to select distributors and retailers beginning February 19, 2019. The recalled products have a “Best By” date of 08/09/2020 printed at the bottom of the pint. In addition, the recalled pints will also have a UPC code of “854758001020” listed below the barcode on the back of the pint. To help identify if a pint of NadaMoo! Strawberry Cheesecake is impacted by this recall, please visit the site NadaMoo! created at www.nadamoo.com/March2019Recall
No consumer has reported an allergic reaction to date.
No other NadaMoo! products or flavors are recalled. NadaMoo! wants to reassure customers that Strawberry Cheesecake pints not labeled with the expiration date listed above are not affected by the recall and therefore can be fully enjoyed rather than discarded.
The recall was initiated as soon as it was discovered that the pie crust inclusions in the Strawberry Cheesecake product containing almond flour as an ingredient was inadvertently filled into packaging that did not declare that ingredient, potentially exposing consumers to an undeclared allergen.
A list of stores that may have received the impacted product can be found below:

A climb to the top of Sauls Mound at Pinson Mounds State Archeological Park.

During the Middle Woodland Period (200 BCE - 400 CE), a series of at least 17 mounds and other earthworks were built on 400 acres near the banks of the Deer Fork River, south of modern-day Jackson, Tn. The site known as the Pinson Mounds is at the core of the 1,200 acre Tennessee State Archaeological Park, officially designated in 1974 for the purpose of protecting and preserving the site.   The original builders' intent & use of the Pinson Mounds Site remains a mystery, because the builders did not leave behind written records. The Mayan Culture was the only Native American civilization to have developed a written language by the time Europeans reached the Americas. The Quechua during the reign of the Incas were maybe in the beginning stages of developing a written language, using Khipu (a system of knots on strings) as a mnemonic device for recording keeping.  Despite the lack of a written record, anthropologists have unearthed a lot of information from the site and have some strong arguments for the Pinson Mounds being used for religious purposes, likely celestial in nature, and maybe even a significant destination point for pilgrimages among the various groups associated with the Hopewell Culture. https://themonkeysmask.weebly.com/pinson-mounds-state-archaeological-park-madison-county-tennessee.html

Holy shit I've been trying to make this damn post since the day you sent that reply but b cause there's no wifi I'm using data and it's being horrible! Also I typed up a somewhat lengthy response and it said it posted but it's not on my blog!!!! I'll try again: Field school has been so much fun! The park that we're staying at (Pinson Mounds Archaeological Park) is super pretty! It's hot though and soooo many bugs! I've gotten used to the bugs though. There was a beetle on the ceiling of our field house. His name was Ringo. He stayed up there for a few days just crawling around but he fell on Sunday so I had to set him free. We were all sad. We went to Memphis a few Thursdays ago and omg it was amazing! We walked along Beale street which was super cool and we saw the exact spot where Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated which was chilling. We also had some dope BBQ. I bought so much shit! Most of the stuff I've bought has been things for my family but still! The actual field work went really well! We got to the field every weekday at around 7 or 8 to excavate and leave at about 3. We've been finding some really cool things like projectile points and pottery sherds that date to around 2,000-3,000 years ago. We've also done some lab work at the museum that's on the park we're staying at which I really like. It's mainly cleaning artifacts but since it's museum work which is what my goal is after I graduate I'm into it. We finished up the excavations yesterday and filled the test units up today so we are officially done!! We leave tomorrow and I'm simultaneously excited and sad over it. I'm glad to be going home but I actually like this program. Our field director who is my advisor, is so so cool, the other students here are great, the work was rewarding despite being exhausting, and the place is pretty! However I'm looking froward to my bed, my cat, and wifi. I mean I'm happy to see my fam too, but bed, cat, and wifi matter the most. This is still really long lol! I'm planning on posting some pics on Thursday when I'm home. One of my friends whose here at field school and I are staying with another friend when we get to campus and leaving Thursday so either Thursday or Friday. I'm so excited for my computer so I can watch tv again. We started Black Sails but I didn't finish it cause it's just easier to watch shows alone. I made this longer than it was before I'm so sorry.
