"Marilyn Manson returned to the live stage after a five-year hiatus. Between the pandemic and legal woes for Manson, it’s been a long break, and he seems fresher and happy to be in front of his fans again, even breaking a smile now and then. His current lineup of Tyler Bates, Gil Sharone, Piggy D. and Reba Meyers were on fire this night, delivering the goods and adding a real punch in the throat with their performance.
The 13-song set featured the mandatory songs like The Dope Show, Sweet Dreams Are Made of This, and the final encore, The Beautiful People. The rest of the set was an assortment from across his eleven studio albums as well as a new single, As Sick as the Secrets Within. At one point Manson stepped down into the pit and stood on the railing with his microphone stretched out to people singing in the crowd and high fived several fans.
Three shows into this 26-show tour and they’re firing on all cylinders and Manson seems grateful to be back and he’s now sober. I hope he’s beat his demons and he’s a changed man because he puts on a great show and his fans deserve this better version."

Neil Young & Crazy Horse - "Bright Sunny Day" (Pine Knob Music Theatre, Clarkston, Michigan, September 19, 1978)
From Homegrown to Hitchhiker, from Tuscaloosa to Toast, the last 10 years of furious archival activity have de-mystified many previously darkened corners of Neil Young's oeuvre. But some questions remain! Such as: what the hell is "Bright Sunny Day"?!
When I first heard this Crazy Horse performance from the Rust Never Sleeps tour (via a dubbed tape of the classic Archives Be Damned series), I assumed it was a random cover of some song I'd never heard before. But no, it seems to be a Neil Young original that was played once and only once in Clarkston, Michigan. Neil is generally not one to let songs fall completely by the wayside — even if it takes him decades to get back to them. But it appears that he's never returned to "Bright Sunny Day" since that night at the Pine Knob Music Theatre.
Has Young ever even thought of it since then? Well, someone did remind him of it a few years back in the Letters To The Editor section of the NYA Times-Contrarian. Here's what he said: "'bright sunny Day' is on our search list for Archives 3. It is listed as a poor quality cassette from Pine Knob rehearsal of the Rust show. We are looking."
They're looking! That's good, because even if the rehearsal tape is "poor quality," it's gotta be better than the crap-tastic audience tape that gives us our only evidence to date of "Bright Sunny Day." Still, it's worth a listen; the song might not be a lost masterpiece, but it sounds pretty nice, fully arranged, cool Crazy Horse backing vocals, a solid chorus. Maybe it wouldn't have fit on Rust proper, but maybe Neil should've revived it for Psychedelic Pill or something.

Sammy Hagar plans to revitalize some Van Halen vibes on his upcoming summer tour.
For The Best of All Worlds Tour, Hagar and his bandmates in The Circle – bassist Michael Anthony, a founding member of Van Halen, and drummer Jason Bonham – will be joined by guitarist virtuoso Joe Satriani, who has recorded and performed with Hagar and Anthony in the band Chickenfoot.
The itinerary kicks off on July 13 in West Palm Beach, Florida, and the tour hits a total of 28 cities, concluding August 31 in St. Louis, Missouri. Loverboy will serve as the opening act.
Pre-sales begin on Wednesday, Nov. 15, at 10 a.m., with general on-sale starting Friday, Nov. 17 at 10 a.m. local. For more information go to RedRocker.com.
Hagar, 76, joined Van Halen as vocalist in 1985 after David Lee Roth left. Hagar also left the band in 1996, but returned for a 2004 tour. Recently, Hagar says he and Anthony decided to perform songs from their days playing in Van Halen at Hagar's annual Birthday Bash last month in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
Tumblr media
"We pulled out a couple of them and it was an instant lovefest with the fans from our first riffs," Hagar said in a statement with the tour announcement. "The music we created is going to outlive us all. They deserve to be heard so it's time we go out and serve the fans that music, while we still can."
The four albums of the "Van Hagar" era of the band – 5150 (1986), OU812 (1988), For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge (1991), and Balance (1995) – were recently re-released in newly remastered editions.
“It’s crazy to think that it’ll be 20 years since Mikey and I played these songs with Van Halen on the 04’ Best of Both Worlds Tour,” said Hagar. “With Joe on board, we can take a deeper dive into those years. We’re going to touch on some hits from my entire career but seeing fans old and new really embrace the new collection set off something in Mikey and I."
Joining the band on keyboards and backing vocals is Australian musician Rai Thistlethwayte.
