i really wanted to paint this since about march, but haven't really found the time to do so. at last, i finished it before the end of pride month.

the two girls are dressed in traditional Slovak folk dress, or kroj (traditional folk formalwear) from Piešťany region. Piešťany and the nearby village of Krakovany have one of the most gorgeous forms of kroj in the entire country and for a long time, dolls dressed in this style of dress were gifted to foreign delegations to represent my country. the same country that won't represent people like me

it is a form of reclamation, in a way, to depict sapphic love in this dress. we're here, and have always been here, even if the rest of the people will deny us our existence. this is for all my fellow queers living through being a hot point of debate during elections. you are seen and you are loved. you are part of this country, and you are part of our culture, and the culture belongs to you just as much as to everyone else

Discovering My Roots: A Journey Through My Childhood Region

Good morning, everyone!

Trenčín: Where My Story Begins

We will start our Day 2 journey at my birthplace, the City of Trenčín. This city is famous for its stunning Trenčín Castle, which sits atop the city, the Roman Inscription on the Trenčín Castle Wall, and the popular summer music festival Pohoda, held at Trenčín Airport every year.

Bradlo: A Tribute to a Slovak Hero

After visiting the Castle in Trenčín, we head to Bradlo, home to the Barrow of Milan Rastislav Štefánik. This stunning white stone monument honors one of Slovakia’s greatest historical figures, whom we also mentioned yesterday in Bratislava. At the top of the barrow, you can see some of Štefánik’s famous quotes carved into the stone while enjoying breathtaking views.

Čachtice: The Castle of a Dark Legend

From Bradlo, we continue to Čachtice Castle, once home to one of Slovakia’s most dark figures, Elizabeth Báthory. Known as the "Blood Countess," legend says she committed gruesome crimes, murdering young girls and bathing in their blood to stay young and beautiful. This scary tale gives Čachtice Castle a mysterious atmosphere, making it a must-visit destination.

Piešťany: A Spa Paradise

To end our day, we will visit Piešťany, Slovakia’s world-renowned spa town, known for its healing thermal waters and mud treatments. Visitors from around the world come here to relax and heal, and today, we’ll do the same!

We’ll take a walk across the Spa Island, cross the Colonnade Bridge, and take a picture with the famous Crutch-Breaker Statue, a symbol of healing. Finally, we’ll end our day with some of the best wellness treatments, including thermal pools, mud baths, and saunas.

Lázeňská káva

(11. 11. 2024) Kofeinovým archeologem v Piešťanech.

Takřka idylická ulice vedoucí z nádraží do centra Piešťan.

Městečka s léčebnými prameny, horkými koupelemi a masážemi představují specifickou část kavárenské kultury; mají totiž tu výhodu, že návštěvníci dopředu počítají s tím, že káva bude tvořit nedílnou součást pobytu. A protože bývá léčebná rekreace zpravidla hrazena pojišťovnou, zbývá logicky více peněz na gastronomické povyhození si z kopýtka.

Podle toho vypadá úroveň jejich nabídky, přístupu a samozřejmě i designu. A i když ve wellness městech v posledních letech vyrostly třetivlnné podniky a mnohé modernější provozy, přesto jsou části Poděbrad, Luhačovic, Karlových Varů nebo Mariánských Lázní skanzeny doby dávno minulé.

Jak jsou na tom ale Slováci a jejich lázeňská chlouba Piešťany? Právě to jsem se předevčírem vydal ověřit, jelikož středisko s mezinárodním věhlasem mě lákalo již delší dobu. A jako v jiných případech, i z této cesty jsem si udělal malé vlakové potěšení. Jeden by samozřejmě mohl vyrazit přímou linkou do Bratislavy a pak rychlíkem či expresem do městečka nad řekou Váh. Časová úspora několika minut a výrazně dražší jízdné však nehovoří pro tuto variantu.

Proto jsem využil 24hodinovou jízdenku IDS JMK za 200 Kč (všechny zóny mimo brněnských 100 + 101), na kterou jsem vyrazil Sp vlakem 7.35 do Veselí nad Moravou, tam přestoupil na Os do příhraničních Vrbovců a odtud pokračoval na jízdenku Slovak Regional (2.25 EUR) do Nového Mesta na Váhom, kde jsem provedl poslední transfer a za 10 minut dorazil vlakem R/REX (1.15 či 1.05 EUR) do Piešťan.

Naděje dobrého poobědového doppia...

Barber shopů jsem potkal nejméně šest, takže jen malá ukázka...

Tenhle je přímo v centru.

Káva a boty, káva a oděvy? Proč ne. Jen by to nesmělo být Illy ze superautomatu, jako tomu bylo v tomto případě.

Lavazza? Asi nový brand pro kávové hipstery.

Pro ty, co by chtěli podobný výlet zkusit, je vhodné z přepravních podmínek doplnit, že v nepracovních dnech lze jízdenku využít pro přepravu maximálně dvou osob starších 15 let a tří dětí do 15 let. Piešťany jsou tedy se zanedbatelným příplatkem na slovenské straně fantasticky dostupné i pro ty, co si nejedou léčit revma a jiné neduhy.

Na základě vlastní zkušenosti upozorňuji na situaci, díky které by mohla výhodnost jízdenky poněkud zhořknout, tj. fakt, že se tato nemusí po nákupu přenést do čtečky/systému průvodčích Českých drah (výpadky na straně kraje a jeho systému KORDIS), kde při tří ze čtyř kontrol průvodčí na platební kartě viděl jen mou předplacenku pro brněnské zóny. V takovém případě vyžadujte, aby průvodčí provedl ověření Vaší platby a jízdenky volbou Manuální karta – identita se zadáním data narození plátce jízdenky.

Kdybych věděl dříve, že tento úkon někteří z nich podle všeho neznají (vyjádření milé a ochotné slečny v kabátu s logem ČD na posledním úseku cesty), dovedl bych se lépe bránit druhé průvodčí, která už už po mě chtěla druhou platbu jízdného. A nepomohlo mi ani šermování printscreenem Potvrzení objednávky a pdf dokladem o provedení platby v 5.39 téhož dne. Pracovníky ČD zajímá to, zda vidí jízdenku na svém zařízení. Basta fidli.

Příjezd do Piešťan proběhl na čas a bez problémů a já opět docenil, jak skvělé je, že máme v Brně nádraží doslova pár kroků v centru. To zdejší je totiž zhruba 15 až 20 minut svižné chůze od historického centra. Po třech hodinách sezení ve vlaku se ovšem člověk rád projde a služeb MHD ani taxikářů firmy Sheriff jsem využít nechtěl.

Na úvod cesty jsou sice vidět paneláky, ale i tyto jsou v obklopení zeleně a záhy jsou vystřídány poctivou přízemní měšťanskou zástavbou v podobě uliček lemovaných listnatými stromy; svou poklidností a solidností pak připomínají obdobnou trasu z prostějovského nádraží do Canallu.

Lázeňská kolonáda a uprostřed ní Café Kolonáda, kde se doslova zastavil čas. Nedoporučuji. Už kvůli jedné a každé přelepené položce v kávovém menu na zdi.

Těžké retro s dřevěným obložením stěn. Raději jsem nakoukl jen přes okna, která jsou polepena obrázky dezertů. To je to odkrývání vrstev času a kavárenské kultury.

Moc příjemná a usměvavá dáma na baru a italský blend 80:20 značky Mulino. Měl jsem už ale v sobě čtyři porce a šetřil si prostor pro pátou v Novém Mestě nad Váhom. Tak třeba příště.

Exteriér mě moc nenadchl, ale uvnitř bylo díky klavíru a milé slečně příjemně. Tak při druhé návštěvě.

Dle mapy jsem se držel hlavní tepny vedoucí do centra a po třech nebo čtyřech kavárnách zaměřených na turisty nebo návštěvníky pátečních a sobotních akcí dorazil do Concept Coffee Roasters, takto zřejmě nejkvalitnější pražírny a kavárny v Piešťanech. Tedy nejkvalitnější ve smyslu nabízené a servírované kávy, protože provozovatelé podniků v centru města, jež jsou zaměřené na typicky lázeňskou klientelu, by se mnou asi nesouhlasili.

Pražírna má v témže průchodu umístěnou pekárnu a nádvoří podniku evokuje první lokaci Industry, zde ovšem v uhlazenější a komfortnější podobě. Nabídka balíčkové kávy je velmi bohatá, na baru dvojice Mythosů a La Marzocco a dvě slečny i mladík celkem OK, ale na můj vkus mohla mít trojice více úsměvů a ochoty, což se projevilo při druhé návštěvě, kdy jsem vybíral balíček a obě slečny seděly za barem zabrány do rozhovoru. A ani sobotní otvíračka na dveřích (10 až 16) nesedí s tím, co mají na webu a Instagramu, takže jsem měl svým způsobem štěstí.

Doppio z vlastní a blíže nespecifikované Kolumbie (má prý vyšší aciditu) bylo ovšem příjemné (14/20) a sevírované v adekvátně objemném šálku Loveramics, který měl velmi nepohodlné ouško. Psychicky i kofeinově povzbuzen (ráno v 5 a 6 jsem si dal dvojici latéčka a espressa doma) jsem se vydal prozkoumávat taje a půvaby města.

Co by to bylo za lázeňský resort bez pořádného hotelu?

Bytovky pro zámožné občany/investory?

Ech, prostě ech.

Dům krásný, prezentace oděvů hrozná.

U Váhu na pozorování labutí a podzimu.

Momentka z kratičké zastávky v Novém Mestě nad Váhom. Velmi základně jsem oběhl vylidněné náměstí a přilehlé ulice, ale na nějaký podrobnější průzkum nebyl díky zpoždění vlaku z Piešťan čas.

Ty samozřejmě nepředstavují potěšení pro každého. Nelze si ale nevšimnout, že do městečka skutečně přitékají peníze a je to vidět na podobě ulic, množství cukráren a v lepším případě kultivovanosti a úpravnosti výloh a obchůdků. Ano, často je to hodně maloměstské a vizuální řešení tahá za oko, ale najdou se i klidná zákoutí a ulice, které působí tak��a idylicky.

Kdybych měl vyjádřit tříhodinový pocit z pomalého bloumání městečkem – a stranou jsem dal lázeňský ostrov s prameny, abych měl důvod zavítat sem ještě jednou – připadal jsem si jako v mimosezónním Rimini a částečně i Gdańsku, snad kvůli novým a atypickým bytovkám či řece a úzkému kanálu, který se vine středem města. To však prosím berte s obrovskou nadsázkou.

Vedle kávy, barevného listí a příjemně zklidněné atmosféry pro mě Piešťany charakterizuje parka, dlouhá prošívaná bunda, kterou tu potkáte na každém kroku, vystavenou před obchody na stojanech anebo připíchnutou na laciných poutačích. A samozřejmě nechybí barber shopy, jichž jsem napočítal šest a pak to vzdal.

Pro mimolázeňské hosty je vedle Concept Coffee Roasters nutno uvést kavárnu-box Norma, jež určitě netrpí nedostatkem zákazníků a vzhledem k patrovému interiéru i přilehlému parku a spoustě rodičů s kočárky se není čemu divit. Na mlýnku měli Honduras od Diamond’s Roastery a nejen v tomto podniku mě překvapily na lázeňské město takové pověsti velmi snesitelné ceny. Doppio 2.50 a flat white za 3.10 EUR.

Why Not Cafe potěšilo tím, že tu z reproduktorů hrál zklidněný klavír a z restaurace v centru se linul jazz ne nepodobný Dianě Krall. Za mě je tohle vedle downtempa či lounge ideální hudba do kavárny a příště se sem musím vrátit, protože i slečna za trojicí mlýnků a kávovarem byla ochotná a podle všeho věděla, co dělá.

Na Nové Mesto na Váhom, které jsem měl při cestě, nezbylo bohužel dostatek času, ale jednu kávu jsem tu přece zkusil. V kavárně Pacas, kam jsem se vrátil po neuspokojivém průzkumu v centru, jsem zvolil Kostariku v podobě espressa od piešťanských Concept a ocenil přístup informovaného baristy, který mi nechal esko za zbylé euro, protože to byla jediná hotovost, kterou jsem měl a karty tu neberou.

A i když káva díky surovině jen slušný standard (silných 13/20), ocenil jsem přístup podniku. A protože jsem se do těchto končin nevydal naposledy, pohlídám si přímo v budově nádraží umístěný podnik ALTER-NATIV Coffee. I ten má bohužel na Instagramu uveden víkendový provoz, ale sobotní realita 10.45 hod. je jiná. Kolik času a námahy představuje jednoduchá aktualizace hlavičky?

Duży sukces na Słowacji odniósł Jakub Kosakowski.  W dniach 11-19 lipca był tam rozgrywany Slovakia Chess Open w PIEŠŤANACH. Nasz reprezentant zdobył 7 punktów co dało mu pierwsze miejsce. Trochę było groźnie, kiedy Jakub przegrał w 5 rundzie z Ameya Audi (znowu Hindus😃), ale wszystko dobre co się dobrze kończy.

Slovak Extreme Challenge 2023

Am Sonntag war ich bei der Slovak Extreme Challenge in Piešťany (SK). Das Match ist Teil vom World Extreme Cup, bei dem auch die Extreme Euro Open dazu gehört. Die Veranstalter stellten 16 anspruchsvolle Stages auf. Wie schon fast üblich, bei Matches in der Slowakei, war auf jeder Stage ein bewegliches Ziel dabei. 

Ich bin ganz gut ins Match gekommen. Bis zur Mitte des Matches lief es ganz gut für mich. Leider hatte ich dann auf 3 Stages hintereinander einen Durchhänger. Ich konnte mich aber zum Glück wieder fangen und habe in der Schlussphase noch einige Punkte gutmachen können. Am Ende reichte es für den zweiten Platz womit sehr zufrieden bin.
