Pickleball in India
Pickle passion on and off the court. The game brings out joy and passion together inside the court. Pickleball, a sport mixing the elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong, is rapidly gaining popularity in India. The game was introduced by Sunil Valavalkar in 2006. The All India Pickleball Association (AIPA) has since established courts and tournaments nationwide. After the 2024 pickleball championships held in India, the game is being played by many people in our country. The paddle game has become popular among both young and elderly. There are 500 courts in the country, and new courts are being built rapidly. Due to its popularity, people are ready to invest in the game. In a country where cricket is flourishing, a paddle sport is growing much faster. Indian cities like Mumbai and Bangalore have become fortresses for pickleball and are expanding to other cities.
Professional Pickleball League in India
The first franchise-based pickleball tournament will start in Mumbai from January 24th to 2nd of the February. The World Pickleball League (WPBL) was co-founded by former Indian tennis players Gaurav Natekar and Arati Ponnappa Natekar. The WPBL is partnered with the All India Pickleball Association (AIPA). The league features 48 players from around the world and India with 6 teams. The league is going to have a great impact on the growth and development of the sport in India.
Teams in WPBL
Bengaluru Jawans, Team Mumbai, Chennai, Pune, Hyderabad, and Delhi are the 6 teams for the WPBL this season. Bengaluru Jawans is owned by director Atlee and his wife Priya. Team Mumbai is owned by Swiggy, and the Chennai team is owned by actress Samantha. The WPBL brings in some big shots as sponsors, and it would help the sport to get much more attention from people around the country.

Vanshik takes the paddle only to Win.
It won’t be overstating if we call him the “Golden Boy of Pickleball” as he has bagged Gold medals in every Championship.
Recently, he ranked No.1 in Asia in the Men’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles, winning 2 Gold & 2 Silver medals in the World Pickleball Championship in Bali. Further, earlier this year, he won the Gold Medal in the Men’s Double Open category at the World Pickleball Championship 2024, held in China.
His love and dedication to the sport never let him return empty-handed to India.
IISM lauds his triumph and wishes for more Golden Wins in future tournaments.

I lost a friend recently. Let me tell you a bit about her.
I met her when I was 11 or 12, quite a long time ago now. She was my coach then, but as time goes by those teachers become friends. My other coach calls me his sibling now, but I think she saws us all as her kids. She taught our head coach for years before he even founded the club, and she certainly treated him like a misbehaving kid when he tried to teach drills differently than she would have.
She was funny, and had a dirty sense of humor that always threw everyone off gaurd until they knew her well enough to see past her facade of "innocent old woman." She went to see Kinky Boots for her 82nd birthday and declared she would become a playwright. Her friends argued that she was already a playwright. And a poet. And an artist. They told me later that she was the lead playwright for two different local groups. At her birthday party she kept yelling at the band to let her in with the accordion. I found our later (as she joined them and played) that it was her band and they were trying to prevent her from playing to enjoy her own birthday party.
When she was diagnosed with blood cancer she conspiratorially told me that, while she was sad to cut back on her hours linedancing (and bemoaned missing the competition with her team) she had found something else to do! Those poor old men on the veterans pickleball team have no idea how much trash talk there was about them between their practice days. After all, it's no linedancing.
She gave me my first set of gear, and regaled me with tales of her past competitions. She was a 4-time national champion, after all. I got to hear all about her losing gear on international flights, getting lost in big cities, and getting banned from the train system of a foreign country because she tried to forge a transit pass when she forgot her wallet in her hotel room. She often complained that the 60+ veterans tournaments were no fun because there weren't enough people to make it worth her time to beat them. She'd do a little impatient hand gesture when you were against her that either meant "hurry up and do something already" or "I'm tired of this and you're about to lose." Usually both.
Once she made an analogy that struck me as being so accurate that I hoped others had heard of it, and wondered if maybe it was a well known phrase that I hadn't heard before (my other coaches had mentioned it a few times after as well). I looked it up later and found a news article with the same quote! It was an interview she had given a decade earlier.
She gave me a knife for my high-school graduation. I'm still not sure why.
She was funny, and kind, and creative, and determined in all that she did. I think she did more sports than I knew existed, and every tournament I went to there was someone asking after her when they saw the patch on my jacket. They usually were someone she had either taught or defeated and they respected her either way. She was a smart-ass, and a good teacher, and a great friend. She was someone who was incapable of not being actively in the middle of something, whether that was sports, or art, or one of her many businesses she ran.
She was a cancer survivor, until she wasn't.
But always, always, she is loved and remembered.

Christian showed a flash of brilliance his rookie year at the second Indy GP and things were looking up for the team in general but as 2023 has begun, RLL is back to having problems with their cars, lacking speed and driver comfort. He’s not a flashy person, preferring to hangout with friends playing card and board games or finding a place to play pickleball rather than go out on the town when he’s in Indy. He likes to spend a good chunk of the winter break back in Denmark visiting family and friends. He’s got an unreasonable fondness for Dad jokes for a 21 year old and his fashion sense ranges from bucket hats and weirdly patterned shorts (a preference he shares with much of the Indycar field) to dapper 3-piece suits straight from the golden age. He currently has a bet with a friend that he cannot shave his mustache until he wins a race.

Millennials Ultimate Retirement Plan: Gaming
Millennials Ultimate Retirement Plan: Gaming Hi there! I wrote a substack Article about this topic and wanted to hear fellow gamers thoughts! In an effort to not self promote I included the full article below and will only share the link to my substack if asked. Thanks! Millennials, Gaming, and the Future of RetirementThe sun shines down on a hot summer day in a Florida community. People slide on their headbands over leathery, suntan-lotioned scalps and equip their supportive wrist straps. They check to make sure their electric golf carts are charged, then put the pedal to the plastic, letting the wind flow through their thinning hair as they approach the pickleball court. A quick glance at Facebook shows a flood of grandkid photos, which they dutifully like with a generic “so cute” comment. It’s the stereotypical image of boomer retirement. But for us Millennials? Well… we’re left wondering if we’ll even be able to enjoy retirement. Still, we’ve got big plans—for our simulated farms. The video game boom of the ’90s, which put consoles in nearly every U.S. home, stole the hearts of one generation more than any other: Millennials. We were the perfect age for it. We are the Pokémon champions. And, statistically, we haven’t stopped playing since. Nearly half of all gamers today are Millennials (49%, to be exact), and we’re the most likely generation to play online games. So, what does the future look like for us? Truthfully, it’s not much different than now. Many of us will fluctuate in our gaming habits over the years, but for a lot of us, gaming remains a top-three hobby—even if it’s not number one. We’re also the most computer-literate generation. The generations above us rely on us to fix their printers, while the ones below us may have the reflexes of a cat but zero understanding of the inner workings of their iPads. We’ll be more flexible with technology in our retirement than any generation that preceded us—including Gen X. (Sorry, but ultimately, you spent less time on AOL Instant Messenger than we did and more time playing outside. For better or worse.)The Hottest Take: We Won’t Retire in VRHere’s a take that might surprise you: I don’t think Millennials are headed toward retirement inside VR headsets. Sure, VR is amazing, but let’s face it—once you hit a certain age, your reflexes slow down. This is why most professional gamers peak in their late teens. By your 30s, learning new information becomes harder, and this speed bump affects every generation. Barring some incredible breakthrough in brain science (totally separate conversation, but hey, maybe we need age limits for public office—would you want your grandparent running the country?), our generation isn’t going to suddenly pivot to hyper-complex tech at 70.What this means is that Millennials are currently at or have already hit their peak understanding of technology. And here’s where my hottest take comes in: the types of games we’re playing now are the types of games we’ll be playing in retirement.Think about it. We already see games specifically marketed to Millennials, and it’s only going to grow. You know which generation still clings to MMORPGs? You guessed it—Millennials lead the charge. So when the hottest new game drops for VR Ray-Ban glasses, there’s a good chance we’ll still be playing our cozy farm sims (Stardew Valley) or reliving the glory days of Call of Duty with people our age.Nostalgia Over FuturismOur retirement will be one of the most tech-savvy yet, but it might look more nostalgic than futuristic. Instead of living in some Black Mirror episode, we’ll be enjoying a uniquely Millennial blend of old-school gaming and modern convenience. So, whether it’s running dungeons in World of Warcraft or harvesting crops in a digital field, our gaming retirement is bound to look a lot like the games we’ve loved all along.
