This was quite something to wake up to this morning!
I had literally only just heard about Adobe Lightroom's support for editing and exporting photos with HDR/EDR last week. And looking into it further, I then found out that Photomator also added HDR last year in its 3.2 update.
I was intrigued and fascinated enough about all this to seriously think about whether this might finally break me away from exclusively using Apple's Photos app for my photos. Keep iCloud Photo Library for the actual library — been carrying it since iPhoto in 2002! — but use an external editor, Lightroom or Photomator, for editing.
I really hope this means SDR→HDR will come to Apple Photos.

Apple's photography workflow
Above: Apple’s Photos in edit mode. BitDepth#1468 for July 22, 2024 Until I’d committed to an all Apple workflow for my smartphone photos, how photos got managed under iOS was something of a mystery to me. It’s been just shy of three decades since I switched to digital photography using MacOS, and I’d only used an early iPhone before switching to Android. So I stayed with the desktop and…

Photomator Q&A and Initial Thoughts
By: Joseph Correa
Follow @Frontproofmedia!function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0],p=/^http:/.test(d.location)?'http':'https';if(!d.getElementById(id))(document, 'script', 'twitter-wjs');
I recently had the opportunity to try out the Mac version of Photomator by the Pixelmator Team. I had previously used their iOS app and was excited to see how well the software translated over. While testing the software, I asked the developer questions, which I detail below.
Q: What inspired the development of Photomator, and what are the fundamental problems it aims to solve?
A:  The inspiration behind Photomator stemmed from the success of our previous application, Pixelmator Pro. We noticed our users appreciated Pixelmator Pro for its advanced yet easy-to-use image editing capabilities. However, Pixelmator Pro is a graphic design tool built primarily for single-document design projects. We felt the need to introduce a dedicated photo editing tool where users could easily jump from photo to photo to make edits and batch-edit whole photoshoots at a time. Also, just like Pixelmator Pro, Photomator had to be a native app and offer a seamless editing experience.
In short, our primary objective with Photomator was to provide advanced photo editing capabilities with an intuitive interface, ensuring both ease of use and outstanding performance.
Q: Could you provide some insights into the unique features and functionalities that set it apart from other software on the market?
A: Leveraging its native integration with Mac, iPhone, and iPad, Photomator delivers lightning-fast performance, even when processing large files or batch-editing numerous photos simultaneously. It boasts an award-winning design and harnesses the full potential of macOS technologies, including Metal, Core ML, Core Image, and Apple silicon on Mac. By making the most of these native technologies, we've crafted advanced AI tools that can increase image resolution, remove color banding, auto-enhance colors in photos, or seamlessly remove unwanted objects from pictures—all with a single click of a button.
So far, I have been incredibly pleased with the speed and power of Photomator's toolset. It's particularly impressed me with its ability to manage color. It does a great job of rendering high-quality results quickly. Though not a full-fledged Lightroom or Capture One competitor, for the price, Photomator cannot be beaten. It offers many advanced features and is excellent for beginners and experienced photo editors.
I will follow up with a detailed review shortly. If you’re interested in checking out Photomator for yourself, you can check it out and try it for free: https://www.pixelmator.com/photomator/

{----------------[🌻 GARDEN 🌻 PHOTOMANCY 🌻]-----------------}
The Burning Snap Dragons are doing well. Feisty, as their species is, even more so as the Burning variant. They had consistent pest issues so I very reluctantly casted a Baby Sunbird protection spell on them. Should keep them pest-free for the next two days or so. Will have to see if it'll need a re-cast, though I'd prefer if I didn't have to. I've been bitten twice so far. Their teeth are small but man, do they hurt. Note to self, maintain 4 feet of distance between yourself and the Snap Dragons.
