Richmond Himbos play DnD

It's been A Day and I'm feeling self indulgent so:

Jamie: Hexblade Warlock. He wanted magic and a sword and hey, maybe he's working through some real life issues with his absent yet controlling patron but that's noone's business.

Roy: Berserker Barbarian. He didn’t get to make his character, the rest of the team made it for him- he’s oddly touched by the results. Phoebe draws character art for him and Jamie both.

Sam: Oath of the Ancients Paladin. Sam’s the kind of person who can’t bring himself to select the ‘mean’ dialogue option in video games. He’s going to fight to protect the good in the world, and provide his team with some much needed healing.

Colin: Champion Fighter. He surprises everyone by showing up with a lore-heavy backstory, until it turns out he’s literally just playing Welsh legend King Arthur and he googled "best DnD classes for beginners" half an hour before the first game.

Isaac: Monster Slayer Ranger. Defies all barbarian expectations because he refuses to be put in a box, so instead goes for peak Aragorn vibes. Paid a local artist to draw his character and he looks fire.

Dani: Talking Owlbear. He’s living his best life.

Richard: Glamour Bard. He’s rolling to seduce. Actually, he's not even rolling.

Moe: Inquisitive Rogue. He’s poking around. Asking some questions. Maybe picking some locks- oh, in DnD? The same, he guesses.

Jan: Bladesinging Wizard. He likes having an alphabetised list of spells and is very particular about sticking to the material components needed to cast them.

Thierry: Ascendant Dragon Monk. He wasn’t sold on the monk life until he realised it was just the purest martial arts class, and then he was all in- return of Van Damme.

burrow's end spoilers!

i am not a huge fan of horror. as a rule, i avoid horror movies and books, because oftentimes the violence in them is just too graphic for me

that being said, burrow's end is shaping up to be my favourite dimension 20 season, namely because of the horror aspects of it. very few streamable dnd shows have been able to recreate the dread and anticipation that i feel while actually playing dnd, but burrow's end does it perfectly

there is, of course, violence and gore (notably the infamous bear scene) but that doesn't bother me as much as it does with other mediums, probably because it's dnd and im sort of used to it. and yet it's the more "psychological" aspects of it that draw me and from what ive seen, many other people in as well

at first it's the not knowing, the uncertainty that causes the unease and later it's putting the pieces together, realizing where the stoats are and what they're dealing with, while they themselves are still ignorant on the basis of just not having the background information we do

i can't not talk about the tapes and the chilling revelation that it was the first stoats that were behind everything. hearing dr wenabocker at first say that everything was under control (and it's likely that he was right), and then only a couple tapes later say that there were clear signs of sabotage, that the cables were chewed through

and, of course, the attack, which is so far probably my favourite part of the show. it's shocking, and downright horrifying to hear and i genuinely had to take a quick break after that, just to process it. carlos luna, you absolute madman, that was incredible

and then we were introduced to phoebe

phoebe, who was behind it all. phoebe, who suggested they sabotage the plant. phoebe, who ripped her sibling's jaw off, when they wouldn't listen to her. phoebe, who gleefully attacked dr wenabocker and may or may not be puppeteering him right now. phoebe, whose return even the first stoats feared (and awaited)

ive thought about the implications behind taking over someone's body to further your own goals long before burrow's end but this has reignited that train of thought (i made a post about it months ago, relating to lockwood & co.) so i know for a fact that i will be thinking about the horror of it for some more time now. especially if that gets confirmed — and im hoping it does

aabria iyengar is a brilliant dm and storyteller and this entire season i have been consistently in awe of the pure genius of the narration and symbolism and plot points, and how she's able to craft such a masterful story

1. Your first OC ever? okay so the first OC I remember, that properly qualifies as an OC, is Dallas. She was my character for a bbs rp board that was themed as a fandom agnostic lolita high school rp (I know!!!!) facecast was Miwako from ParaKiss all pink hair and frilly skirts and rollerskates, very rawr-random, one of the few genuine rp characters on the board as like 80% of them were definitely played by three people. (extra shout out to whoever rp'ed Payne, my rp not-gf, for holding my hand through my first ever smut rp, you were truly the realest and I hope you're doing well)

2. Do you have a personal favourite among your OCs? among MY ocs, important note because we know the real favourite here, it has to be Winter. my big handsome sadsack punching bag of a man. I do not know who I would be without him acting chief blorbo duties.

4. A character you rarely talk about? sooooooooo many. because I'm winter-pilled. but I would like to expand on Joy one day, my murderangel of a warlock, or Rhys... or Beloved... I feel like I rarely talk about Jadyn but she has 7 years of campaign behind her so also I talk about her plenty lol

6. Two OCs of yours that look alike despite not being related? I think in my head Rhys and Beloved share a lot of characteristics (wet cat). Addie my bard has a lot of Mix-typing (as does Dallas), because I think there is only one girl in my head and she's chaos lol

11. Is there any OC of yours you could describe as a “sunshine”? Fil!!!! Fil in the Blank is my only perfect sunshine boy and everyone else is a murderhobo or a sad sack. Oh, and Addie - also sunshine in a bottle, or at least in a sword, which she will stab you with, so maybe not... OH lmao. Phoebe :)

12. Name an OC that isn’t yours but who you like a lot [UNROLLS TRAIL OF KITTEN PHOTOS FROM MY POCKET] HELLO HAVE YOU MET. MY HUSBAND. thank you for including this question so I can yell about Kitten because he IS my favourite even moreso than Winter, who agrees with me so it's fine

18. Any OC crackships? oh this is a terrifying prospect. Jadyn would get on great with Winter. Kitten and Grim are never allowed within a hundred miles of each other, for Winter's health. Fil would decontruct Judge in under ten minutes which I think probably counts. Do you want Fil to have a sentient gundam with the moral code of judge dredd? Horrifying thoughts.

23. Introduce OC that has changed from your first idea concerning what the character would be like? Winter has definitely changed, and continues to change in each universe iteration, and that's growth because I sure did make him a bundle of trauma and bad decisions <3

28. Your most dangerous OC? Winter, if Kitten is threatened. (or the kids, oh my god.) Otherwise, maybe Joy. She sure does love killing. Fil is dangerous if unsupervised, but more in the blew-up-your-house kind of way

36. Do you have OC pairs where the other part belongs to someone else (siblings, lovers, friends etc)? I MEAN. HI. YEAH. I think playing ocs with friends is the greatest and most important thing in the world actually. yes these fuckers live in my head but they are made real in the telling

37. Introduce an OC who is not quite human Grim is my least human, if we don't count the fact Judge is a big robit. I do need to respec him though as I'm not happy with the dnd build he has, but I do love a wolfy shapeshifter sabertooth-esque motherfucker

Art content I haven't shared yet. First is my hexblade warlock Nimue back in her early days before becoming a renowned swordsman. I played her in a little oneshot establishing her origin.

Second are some doodles of the Nethys in my homebrew setting. The context behind my Phoebe being there was because she was originally more unicorn-like, but when I put her in dnd she became more tiefling since dnd didn't have any official unicorn people (especially for a buncha newbies playing at the time).

⊱✿⊰ 1) Does your OC have a voice claim? I don’t really go looking for voice claims so he doesn’t have anyone in particular! When I play him I put on kind of a wispy vaguely transatlantic accent and no one immediately comes to mind that I would assign to him

Eris was in a past relationship with my DM’s NPC Seranis, and they are soo Killer by Phoebe Bridgers coded, and I also heavily associate them with Drowning Lessons by MCR. They had a complicated relationship that ended really traumatically for both of them since Eris, well, died, and I wish we’d gotten to explore it more before the campaign ended. Instead I just get to make stuff up :3

⊱✿⊰ 6) If your OC is in a fantasy setting, what professions would they be in the modern day? This is hard! Eris’s profession was being dead, and before that adventuring, which I don’t think translate well to the real world. I like to think xe would’ve been a librarian if xe had a more peaceful life so I would stick them to that in the modern day

⊱✿⊰ 9) how does your OC handle their physical health? Do they take care of themselves? This really did not translate well into a DND campaign, since I couldn’t just tell my DM “erm he wouldn’t take damage he’s already dead” lol. But I think that Eris mostly doesn’t have to think about it anymore, wounds healed without interference and food wasn’t necessary once they became an intangible ghost. I think in life xe probably did the bare minimum to keep themselves alive, and maybe tried a little bit harder once they met Seranis and had someone else to live for

I found the Phantom Rogue subclass while searching around trying to make a new character for this campaign, thought it was interesting, and based a lot of his main traits (being a ghost) on it. Their sister was played by another player in the campaign so a lot of xir backstory came from us making ideas up together!

- i live in oklahoma, which is kinda sucky cause there is legit nothing to do here except go to walmart and hang out in empty parking lots haha! 😭 but it is a pretty little state, so who am i to complain! i have always wanted to live somewhere like illinois, oregon, or colorado! they just look so pretty 😭🫶

- my hobbies include playing guitar (usually acoustic because the sound is SO pretty and soft), drawing/painting, making pottery, playing piano, singing, writing poetry, writing songs, researching random topics (usually forensics, insects, anthropology. etc.), collecting things, and photography!

- i have really wanted to get into book binding and crocheting lately, but i have not had the time nor money for it! 😭 i also want to read more, so that is my goal for the summer!

- i collect anything related to butterflies, moths, bees, dragonflies, astronomy, anthropology, or flowers to the point that it is an ISSUE 😭 i also collect crystals, typewriters, and dnd dice! <3 (my favorite set of dice have flowers in them and they are SO CUTE!)

Headcanons:

Hugo the Orangutan (from that one Wild Kratts episode) is a recurring NPC. He appears in almost every campaign, and every time, he has a quest for the DND party.

Mikey has several pieces of paper that say "Loading" with random DND tips (like video game loading screen tips) that he slots into his DM screen whenever he needs some time to think or look up rules or whatnot.

One time, the gang uses Chinese fortune cookies instead of dice. Instead of rolling, they would eat the cookies, read their fortunes aloud, and let the DM decide what it means.

Example:

Mikey: Okay guys, eat for initiative.

*Everyone reaches into a large bowl of fortune cookies in the center of the table*

Ralphie, who was way to eager: Mine says, "Every flower blooms in its own sweet time."

Mikey: You go last.

Mikey: As the party travels, you encounter a fork in the road...

Carlos: I pick it up.

Mikey: Really, bro?

Almost everyone has played as a spell-casting class at one point or another. Wanda and Carlos are no longer allowed to do so because A) Wanda uses very destructive spells (mainly fireball) and Carlos only uses spells that do stupid things.

Carlos and Mikey: *explaining how they're making a fog machine to fill with holy water to make an area of permanent damage against the vampire lord*

D.A. (the dungeon master for that round): ...

Sometimes the Wild Kratts team joins in the DND fun. It gets ten times more chaotic when they join. The members of the team take turns being the DM.

Keesha: Oh wow, this shop has everything my heart desires!

Mikey (voicing the "spooky shopkeeper" NPC): Yes, I will warn you... every item comes with a price.

Keesha: Yes, I know how shops work.

Mikey: The price may be more than you expect to pay.

Keesha: Yes, I know how US taxes work, too.

Mikey, increasingly exasperated: I'm trying to tell you that I'm evil and offering these wares with no regard for the harm they will do!

Keesha, also increasingly exasperated: I know what capitalism is too, goddammit.

More headcanons:

The DND party is EASILY distracted. A cat? Gotta stop and pet it. There's free food? Gotta try it! There's a monster terrorizing a village (and it's not the main quest)? Well, you can't just turn a blind eye to that! And you certainly can't ignore all these shiny rocks!

One time (as an experiment), everyone played a non-magic class for their DND characters. It did not go well.

Came up with an idea of the Friends cast as a dnd table

Ross as the whiny Dm who wants his way and is constantly trying to railroad; Monica being both the rules lawyer and the one who wants to be chaotic neutral but absolutely fails; Phoebe as the true chaotic neutral but is aggressive towards others if things she doesn’t like happens (especially to animals so only plays Ranger and Druid); Joey as the forever bard who will hit on anyone who breathes; Chandler somehow the only normal one at the table; and Rachel who doesn’t want to play outside of the reason it’s the latest tread and all her friends are playing so she puts in the minimal amount of effort into her character.
