I think one of the reasons I love "villain x villain" dynamics so much is that they offer a strange kind of comfort, a satisfaction in seeing the most horrible, fucked-up beyond imagination people find the love of their lives, appreciated and desired for exactly what they are.

I also enjoy "villain x hero" ships (not all of them, but when done right), but "two villains in love" just hits harder. It’s "us against the world", and "I will not hesitate to set it on fire to keep you warm" rather than "you need to change so the world I love can accept you".

How I envisioned their first meeting before they joined the Troupe (this was drawn before the backstory chapters came out)

I always saw Phinks as living in Meteor City since birth and Feitan arriving there later against his will. Like he just fell from the sky one day and hates this place as much as wherever he came from and whoever abandoned him there.

This version of Meteor City is a dog eat dog trash jungle where every man is for himself. The community shown in the manga itself is barely present in this scenario.It’s bad enough to account for the both of them being so fucked up.

Phinks sees Feitan fight and finds him immensely cool,prompting this interaction.

Imagine leaving your hometown to protect it by becoming a Werewolf Hunter, only to return five years later and you suddenly learn that two of your childhood friends are now dating. On top of that, they've been acting weird and distant, secretive about it. If you're Chrollo, you're trying to maintain a stoic, calm demeanor while being deeply concerned for Shalnark, whose attitude has almost reverted to before you two were friends. The memory of Shalnark confessing feelings for you five years ago haunts the back of your mind as you watch him cling to Phinks while treating you like the plague. If you're Feitan... You're tooooootallllly not in the closet, but you're just... ya know, kind of pissed off that your best friend came out to Shalnark before you. And that he's dating Shalnark. And that you feel like your man was stolen from you but in a no homo kind of way. Bruh, could you imagine if I wrote the werewolf fic from exclusively Chrollo's and Feitan's perspective? (Shal would prob be really annoying for the readers if you didn't see his perspective constantly lmao)
