Was it not clear to Elizabeth that Anne and Isabel had little choice in Warwick's schemes? Her hatred toward them is so incredibly weird. I liked her before but since the scene where she made Anne take off her clothes for her, I haven't liked her that much at all. I don't care that she hates Warwick but to go after his daughters is nasty

Tfw you’re married to an dangerous unstable butcher and made queen to this guy and everyone at your court waits for you to die too and you have nightmares about this man killing you as he killed his wives so you hide your religion and placate and love him and keep yourself a secret as best as you can and do everything right but you’re still in torment with these dreams and their judgement and they give you his dead wives’ jewels and clothes and castles so you have to wear the gowns of a murdered child whom you can’t even admit was innocent because her name was dragged through the mud so much and just as you think you’ve achieved his love and reunited his family he paints his dead wife in your clothes on the royal portrait and she is in your clothes as if you are the ghost, alongside all the others who came after her and this was the woman he abandoned in childbed, and all of this happens to you smack bang in the middle of public so you can’t even rage or grieve smhhh
#look objectively i know that phillipa gregory can barely be called a historical writer but DAMN#catherine parr#kateryn parr#she was holding shit together in that court#tudor era#jane seymour#katherine howard#catherine howard#henry viii#the taming of the queen#phillipa gregory#I WOULD’NT reccommend this book btw! you don’t need to read it!#its a barebrush detailing of kateryn parr but the ending is so wildly inane and i HAAATE thomas seymour and how they portrayed elizabeth#house of tudor

“In a sense, we’re still fighting the Wars of the Roses,” smiles Philippa Gregory, the bestselling historical novelist, of this enduring factionalism. There is even a Richard III Society, dedicated to rehabilitating his reputation. “That’s a very unusual thing for a historical figure to have.”
Devoted Ricardians will no doubt be thrilled by her latest work: Richard, My Richard is Gregory’s debut play, and sees Richard III rising from his grave in a car park in Leicester, and arguing with the embodied figure of History, in an attempt to clear his name. It opens at Shakespeare North Playhouse this week.

Part of my work in writing a history of Normal Women has been recognising the normality of women, however they are named: rioting women, power-mad women, manipulative women, viragoes, angels, witches.

I first had the idea for this book around the time that I wrote The Other Boleyn Girl, when I found a woman, Mary Boleyn, who made her own remarkable life but enters history only as the sister to the more famous Anne.

Summary: After the wedding and having a blissful relationship with Colin. You visit the parent's housholds once more with much love and a sweet son for them to smother. [series]
The morning glow left a warmness in the room. An arm draped over you in the bed. A soft tug at your side made you get pulled closer. So close you rolled over to face him. To face your husband; Colin Bridgerton. With a giddy smile you admired him in his sleep. Admiring every feature of his face. The way his eyes were shaped. His nose, the shape of his lips. You felt the urge to touch his face. To make it real that he was truly here with you. No matter how many times you would wake up next to him, it still felt like a dream.
One where you would wake up and not have him by your side. Colin hummed deeply in his sleep. -"Are you staring?" - he asked opening but one eye first to observe. -"Maybe?"- you responded as he fully opened his eyes. Meeting your smile with a chuckle. -"Perhaps it is because I am liking what I see."- you added with a chuckle. -"Good."- Colin breathed out, changing to lay on his back. You snuggled closer to him, laying your head on his chest. Drawing circles and lines up his chest to occupy yourself.
It made Colin lift his head a bit up, tilting your face upwards to him by your chin. -"You alright?"- he asked. Knowing you'd only mindlessly fiddle when you had something on your mind. -"It's nothing."- you replied laying your head back down. -"Tell me."- Colin answered wanting to ease whatever worries you had. You wrapped your arm around his body, leaning closer to him. -"Tell me this isn't a dream. Tell me I won't be waking up any second to an empty bed."- you explained. Colin smiled softly as you lifted your upper body up to face him.
"It is not."- he responded moving his palm to your cheek. -"This is very much real, Miss Bridgerton." - he spoke bringing a smile on your lips. To even reassure you more, he drew you closer. Pressing his lips to yours. Kissing them tenderly, fully, teasingly. It mad you hum satisfied underneath his breath. He slowly pulled away with a lovesick gaze. One he never seemed to grow tired off or loose. He wanted to kiss you again if it weren't for the cries that disrupted the moment. Both of you snorted loud at how good of a timing your child had.
Colin and you got out of bed. Dressed properly and both left the room to head for the nusery just a room away. There was already his nanny present, standing over the bed. -"He's been missing you miss."- she said politely with a curtsy. You went over to the bed, seeing your little boy of one and three months suddenly smile. His crying stopped when you picked him up. -"Hellow my darling."- you said soothingly, stroking the back of his head.
Colin came nearer as well, tickling his son. He started flapping with his hands out of excitement with a big smile. You helped dress your baby as Colin cleared up some lost toys. Well ready, the three of you went downstairs. The breakfast table already set. The smell of fresh baked bread as sweet as honey in the morning. With your son on your lap, you sat beside your husband. -"Mama would be thrilled to see us today."- you told him.
"So lunch with my mama and diner with yours?"- you said out loud to be certain of todays agenda. Colin hummed loud tickling his son a bit more. A servant entered the room holding a tray. He stopped by Colin's chair, presenting the tray. Colin quirked his eyebrow briefly up before collecting the letters. At the sight of two familiar pamphlets he wasn't sure how to react. Instead he showed the pair to you. -"Whistledown."- you called out as he nodded. Hesitantly you took one from him.
"I'm sure my sister has learned her lesson after the reveal with the queen. Now the entire ton knows who is behind the writing."- you reminded him. You laid the edition down to read. Her writing changed. It still had it's sharpness but with less accusations. Afterall everyone knew who the lady behind the papers was. It was at your sisters ball that she got uncovered by het majesty the queen herself. Her skeming unravelled and exposed fully to the ton.
Penelope had always found herself a wallflower. Now the entire ton knew of her. She had stepped into a light, she perhaps didn't want. It perhaps did have a few perks as for she needn't sneak around that much. Colin took your hand whilst reading his pamphlet. Needing it as a way of comfort. Knowing how much hurt that pen had struck amongst the two of you. All out of jealousy. Colin placed the edition down and shoved it out of the way.
You moved yours away as well, enjoying breakfast further. After breakfast you readied yourself to visit your mama's house. The carriage prepared. Both of you got in. Colin taking his son on his lap. The carriage wobbled over cobblestone. A feeling of homesick showing with each street getting closer. Despite the differences sometimes, you did miss your sisters from time to time. You even missed Robert and Albion. Exhaling soft, you hoped to arrive sooner than later.
The carriage arrived in the street as your heart beat faster. Faster with anticipation. The carriage came to a stop before the house. The footman opened the door as you got out. Colin with your son afterwards. He came standing beside you, giving your cheek a good kiss. Keeping one arm around your waist, he guided you inside. The door to the drawing room opened as the two of you walked in. Portia immediately let out a cry of joy at the sight of you. -"My daughter what a pleasure."- she said coming to hug you.
She then walked up to Colin to greet her grandson. -"Y/n"- your sisters and their husbands said. Tears already swelled up from the sight of them. Opening your arms, you welcomed them. Phillipa running with a loud squeal over to you. You nearly fell back when you caught her in your embrace. -"I've missed you so much."- she cried out, squeezing you to the bone. She finally let go when Albion had been tapping her shoulder.
Albion and Robert both hugged you at the same time. Prudence was holding her little girl with a smile. Unable to stop your lip from quivering you looked at her. -"Oh stop."- she said waving her hand down as she didn't want to cry for herself. You toughened up with a nod. You hugged her as well as Albion and Robert were trying to get your son's attention by waving at him. Colin happily gave his son to Portia. She started walking around with him, already telling him how good of a boy he was.
Holding your hand out, Colin took it. Coming to your side. Phillipa guided you to the sofa's where her little girl was playing on the ground. All of you went to sit down, full in conversation when Penelope came downstairs. -"Y/n."- she said at the door opening. Her eyes then gliding over to Colin. Colin swallowed nervously, looking away. -"How good to see you."- she spoke entering more. -"You look well."- you told her. Penelope went around the sofa to join.
Colin came sitting closer to you, taking your hand firm in his. Penelope's gaze fell on it. Making her swallow nervously before settling down. All of you conversated catching up with lost time. Mostly it went about the babies as each was curious how the other was doing. Colin and you staid for lunch as promised. -"I've read your newest edition."- you told Penelope to let her have some attention as well. -"Oh."- she said soft.
"It was admirable. Your writing is very good sister."- you complimented her. -"Thank you."- she replied shyly. -"I'm sure her efforts would attract a gentleman soon."- Portia pitched in. -"Perhaps an honorable writer as well?"- Phillipa added to the conversation. -"Perhaps."- Portia repeated softly.
After lunch you said your goodbye's. Holding your son, you took Colin's hand. No need for the carriage as it was just across the street. The staff welcoming you and leading you to the drawing room. -"Brother!"- Anthony called out with excitement. Colin went over to him for a hug. Kate went to greet you with her warmest smile. -"Are you well Y/n?"- she asked. -"Very."- you responded. Kate moved her finger to your son as he grabbed tight to it. -"Oh such a strong grip."- she laughed out. Hyacinth came running over with Gregory.
Circling around you. -"Can I hold him, can I? Oh please Y/n can I?"- she kept calling out desperate for it. -"Perhaps an old lady first?"- Violet entered the drawing room with a heartful smile. -"You are not old Lady Bridgerton."- Kate responded. Violet chuckled as you handed him over to her. -"Oh look how big you are becoming."- she said carrying him around. You followed Kate to the men, greeting Anthony as well. -"Are you staying for diner?"- Anthony asked.
"If you wouldn't mind of course."- you replied. -"Never."- he said with a smile. Violet sat down with your son on her lap. Gregory and Hyacinth sitting by her side to play with him. Colin and you squeezed yourself on a sofa. -"Is Benedict not around?"- you asked looking around. Anthony shook his head. -"Shame for I wanted to ask him to draw our sons painting for his second birthday."- you explained. -"We shall pass it on."- Kate replied with her hand on Anthony's knee.
Anthony stared at his brother with a giddy smile. He then tapped him hard on his knee. -"Look how happy you are."- he said with proudness. Colin and you shared a look before smiling all bashful. - "I have always seen it, the two of you."- Anthony went on. -"No you did not."- you laughed out. Kate quirked her eyebrow up to him. -"I did not."- he responded making Colin snort loud.
Exhaling soft, you looked back at Colin. -"We've come a long way from since we were children."- you spoke. -"It could have been sooner if you'd actually let me woo you."- he answered with a tap on your nose. - "Alright maybe that was partly my fault, but you youngman gave up."- you reminded him. -"I didn't think I had any chances left."- he replied.
"But the good news is you found each other now."- Kate stepped in before it would emerge into bickering. -"Indeed."- Anthony backed up receiving a bored scowl his wife. You smiled taking Colin's hand. You got frightened when Hyacinth let herself fall against you. -"I'm so lucky you married Colin."- she said cheerful. -"As am I."- Gregory interfered from Violet's side. -"Well I am lucky to have such a caring family."- you turned to look at everyone in the room. -"I couldn't be happier."

Cressida tells Lord Debling that Penelope and Colin became friends when the Featheringtons moved in across the street from the Bridgertons
Imagine if the other Bridgerton brothers had bonded with Penelope's sisters as well
Anthony and Prudence could achieve a level of bitch that would have decimated Cressida and left the entire ton afraid to cross either family
Meanwhile Benedict and Phillipa would be the loveable smart-ass duo that left even Queen Charlotte and Lady Danbury in awe
#if felicity was on the show her and gregory would be pure chaos#polin#bridgerton headcanon#anthony bridgerton#prudence featherington#benedict bridgerton#phillipa featherington

𝐏𝐇𝐈𝐋𝐋𝐈𝐏𝐀 𝐆𝐑𝐄𝐆𝐎𝐑𝐘 𝐒𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄 𝐐𝐔𝐎𝐓𝐄𝐒 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐏𝐈𝐋𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒 𝐏𝐀𝐑𝐓 𝐓𝐖𝐎.
All sentences are taken from different books from Phillipa Gregory, specially her series about the historical fiction setting of the war of roses and the tudors era. Change names, locations, pronouns and nouns as you see fit for your own liking. Some of these have slight foul language or involve insuation of sexual situations. Please beware. This is part two. (part one).
You are my joy. You are worth tens of thousands.
The art of happiness is being content with what you have.
Bless you my daughter, and may you remain pure in heart and get your desires.
I want my husband to love me with a passion, like in a troubadour tale, like a knight.
Ah, my dear, you are a good wife. You are my beauty. You are my only love.
Another husband, another new house, another new country, but I never belong anywhere and I never own anything in my own right.
Life is long, and if a woman survives, she can take her pleasures one way or another.
My advice to you, as you go to your husband, is never to trust him and never love him more than he loves you.
This is a generation of men accustomed to warfare, inured to danger and familiar with cruelty.
Last time I danced in these rooms it was the Christmas feast and I was wearing a dress of silk.
I have the Sight, I should have seen it all, but some things are too dark to forsee.
When a country is at war, cousin against cousin, brother against brother, no boy is safe.
People always make up stories about princesses. It comes to us with the crown.
Good God, I could take you in my arms right now.
There is no one who loves peace more than a soldier.
A troubadour to a distant mistress.
Every woman should marry for her own advantage since her husband will represent her.
The castle will seem very quiet and strange without you here.
We may be of the same family, but that is the very reason why we are not friends, for we are rivals for the throne.
Her confidence is extraordinary, her impertinence unforgivable, her words terribly true.
I believe that to be a free woman is to be both passionate and intelligent; and I am a free woman at last.
She doesn't realize yet though men go to war it is the women who suffer--perhaps more than anyone.
They are a couple in love, and anyone but a fool would see it is simply that, nothing more- and certainly nothing less.
We are Plantagenets - we dine on a diet of betrayal and heartbreak.
One little boy, and he a bastard.
The queen sees me coming, turns toward us and waits, with a killer's patience, for me to reach the chancel steps.
I am the daughter of a water goddess. I am a woman with water in her veins and power in her breeding.
I am not defeated by a boy with a newly won crown, and no man will ever walk away from me certain that he won’t walk back.
Compared with the rest of us she was silver, while we were pewter, a common mixture of lead and tin.
I was born to be Queen of England and mother of the next King of England. I have to fulfill my destiny, it is my God-given destiny.
I will stand up and speak in my own voice and no man will ever silence me again.
Affection is not important to you, nor to me. You want power Margaret, power and wealth; and so do I.
A woman of sense would marry only for the improvement of her family. Only a lustful fool dreams every night of a marriage of love.
All this is always for nothing.
Her heart has to break and her spirit has to break if she is to be any use to her family.
Your son is heir to an enormous fortune and name. Someone would be bound to bid for you him and take him as his ward.
Your son is heir to an enormous fortune and name. Someone would be bound to bid for you him and take him as his ward.
It's not an easy dance she's leading.
Bed, Wife.
You look as if you would eat me up.
I cannot think how to sate my desire for you. I think I will have to keep you prisoner here and eat you up in little cutlets, day after day.
But you would not get out till you were with child.
It is easier to take a country into war than to bring it to live at peace.
When you are still and thoughtful you are as lovely as the statues they are carving in Italy.
Jane had gone to pray for the dead queen, Anne would dance on her grave.
I have a longing for you, Lady Elizabeth Grey, that I have never felt for any woman before.
Come to me, I beg you, come to me. It could be my last wish. Will you come to me tonight?
I cannot be your mistress. I would rather die than dishonor my name. I cannot bring that shame on my family.
This is my marriage, and I want my wife in my bed.
Learning is an ornament to a good woman, not a distraction.
I would rather see you dead at my feet than dishonored.
What if the king is killed in battle?
I have loved you honorably as a knight should do his lady, and I have loved you passionately as a man might a woman.
I am not defeated by a boy with a newly won crown.
It's not magic. It's what any slut does if she has her wits about her.
He was such a happy boy, and happiness is not memorable.
I have a right to you, as your betrothed husband.
He has to marry a princess.
You have married a man who is going to die in his bed, preferably after making love to the most beautiful woman in England.
I will make sure that the most beautiful woman in your eyes is always me.
If you hate a woman, the first thing you destroy is her reputation.
Don't waste your courage on hating him. Keep yourself to yourself. And keep up your courage.
Where have I offended you?
And now I want love. Lust is no good for me. I want love. His love.
She can be pious, she can be learned, she can be witty and wise and beautiful.
And swore that whatever the obstacles before me, I should be Queen of England.
My chamber. Come at once.
It seems that we have to be married.
So now we are going to consummate our betrothal.
Let’s dance for the Queen of the May!
My mother does not need your good opinion.
If I burned them, I became as one of those who think that ideas are dangerous and should be destroyed.
From the moment she could talk she had been taught to guard her tongue.
I gave my womanhood to you. Tell me, in what way have I offended you? What have I ever done which was displeasing?
But don’t run too fast. Remember he has to catch you.
Nobody in this world will ever call me Mrs. Fool.
You can always tell a pretty girl by the way she walks. A pretty girl walks like she owns the world.
I thought that our marriage vows had moved your heart. I thought that you were resting your head on my shoulder for affection. Fool that I am.
I adore your hair, I like to see it loose.
I am as envious of her as she is of me. But I have seen her rise and rise.
Because I dare not look at you, because if I did, every man and woman at court would sell at that in my eyes.
Because I can't sleep for thinking of you. Because I burn up with desire for you.
You’re a girl from the House of Lancaster. You cannot fall in love with the heir to the House of York unless he is king victorious.
Child, you cannot change a king, you can only make him laugh.
What will happen when I am old and I can dance no more?
She seems not to have a seat of her own but she must borrow mine.
The queen is right. The queen is always right.
I’m not a girl, afraid of the unknown, I am a woman; I can face fear, I can walk towards it.
And we hardly ever speak of her. It is as if we cannot bring ourselves to speak of her as dead.
A lady will find her defenders. The men around you will speak for you if needs be.
She can speak three languages, but she can tell the truth in none of them.
She never thought when she overthrew a queen that thereafter all queens would be unsteady.
What if I don’t want an unwilling bridegroom, a pretender to the crown, who won his throne through disloyalty and betrayal?
His is a rule of terror. He makes us afraid of imaginary enemies so we don’t guard ourselves against him and against our government.
