A dive into the archives
Image 1: My maternal family at a wedding Dawat in post-partition Lahore, Pakistan (1977) The groom, who happens to be my Mamoo (maternal uncle) is adorned with shiny headwear and garlands sewn with cash notes. The colourful, patterned shamiana tent veiling the Dawat is a common occurrence in banquet halls even today. Dawats also serve as the ideal opportunity to get multiple family members and kin together for a group portrait, a crucial and vital method of documenting a visual record of humans that are often overlooked and erased from history and whose lived experiences have been minimized and rendered invisible by colonial hegemonies.
Image 2: My maternal grandfather, F.D Chaudhry, a soldier in the British Army, hosting his British and German friends at a small Dawat in post-partition Lahore, Pakistan (1950) These are foreign families that chose to remain in Pakistan after the partition of the country from India, but have since returned to their respective homelands.
Image 3: My mother, Mohtarma Rubina Magsi, celebrating Shab-e-Barat, a major Dawat for the global Muslim community, honoured in the month of Sha'ban in the Islamic calendar (1980s) After finishing our prayers in new clothes, we would head outside into the garden to play with sparklers and light little diyas (oil lamps made from clay) all around the boundary walls of our home. The deceased are honoured on this day and the festival is celebrated in unique ways in Muslim countries around the world, depending on the country and culture.
Image 4: Mohtarma Rubina Magsi surrounded by her singing and clapping women friends ( Late 1970s) They are taking turns playing the dhol (drum). Often a sturdy, silver spoon is also hit onto the center of the dhol to add depth to the music. Some guests may even reach for a dufflee (tambourine) and clap it against their henna stained palms. The music can range from orally transmitted folk songs to Bollywood hits from across the border. Healthy competition is fostered as guests attempt to outdo one another with an impressively long array of memorized songs.
Image 5: A duo collage of community elders veiling my hair and face with heavy garlands of vibrant, red rose flowers to mark the Rasm-e-Ameen, a Dawat hosted to honour the completion of formal Quranic education. The customary prayers are followed by a large buffet style banquet feast. (1993)
Image 6: Guests enjoying their banquet dinner on a round table after the Rasm-e-Ameen. A waiter holding a tray with glasses watches over the banquet tables to ensure the guests are looked after. (1993)
Image 7: A women prioritized Dawat-e-Milad in praise of Prophet Muhammad, hosted at our home in Karachi, Pakistan. Though veiling of the hair is not an imposition in Pakistan, even at women prioritized religious, cultural and spiritual events such as these, both Muslims and non-Muslims loosely cover their hair momentarily, out of respect. (1995)
Image 8: A birthday banquet to honour the day I was born. It is interesting to note, that while traditional, cultural garments are prioritized for certain events, like the Dawat-e-Milad, Rasm-e-Ameen or a wedding Dawat, western clothing, games and food is often engaged at Dawats such as birthdays and graduations. (1994)
Image 9: Generation after generation, the visibility of women in documentations of family life has increased. This is a family photograph taken on my birthday Dawat (1993) with my mother at the center, surrounded by children, and caregivers from the Philippines and our ancestral lands, Jhal Magsi, Balochistan. I was truly raised by a multi-generational, diverse village of people from all corners of the world. While some members of our family are wearing western clothing, others are dressed in traditional, cultural garments and have chosen to veil their hair.
Image 9: A spiritual, Sufi Dawat at the Taji Shrine in Meva Shah, Karachi. My mother is adorning our family's Sufi saint (Baba Anwar Shah Taji) with heavy garlands of red roses. (1980) While flowers are given feminine traits in various cultures around the world, in many South and Central Asian countries, such as India, Pakistan and Nepal, flowers are a gender neutral way of showing love and adoration through the art of ornamentation. After the customary Sufi rituals are complete, the congregation gathers side by side on the floor to consumer Langar, a meal that is served to everyone in attendance, at no cost. The Langar menu can vary from week to week, consisting of curries, rice dishes, naans and sweets, and no one is turned away from the doors of the shrines when Langar is served. Whether cis or trans, male or female, able or disabled, rich or poor, local or foreign, everyone is welcome here. In some shrines the genders are segregated.
Most Dawats in Pakistan mark important life milestones, like births, birthdays, weddings, graduations and are also influenced by cultural traditions and religious rituals, varying from household to household, depending on cast, clan, socioeconomic standing, province and religion.
There are some motifs and symbols that make a recurring appearance, era after era, such as rose petals and night blooming jasmine flowers, shamiana tents, cauldrons of Biryani, unisex garlands and head coverings made with either cash or flowers (or both), various forms of veiling (with both textiles and flowers), the dhol (drum) and of course, endless cups of Chai. Of the various significant Dawats that take place throughout the year, apart from events like birthdays and weddings, certain religious Dawats like Shab-e-Baraat (a major festival for Muslims celebrated in the month of Sha'ban, the eighth month of the Islamic calendar) Rasm-e-Ameen (formal completion of Quranic education), Urs (death anniversaries of Saints and Mystics), Milad (events fostered in praise of Prophet Muhammad) and Niyaz (Meditative chanting and prayers followed by distribution of food amongst the needy) also encompass specific rituals and customs. As visible in the archives, there was also a healthy mix of retaining local, familial customs and traditions, while also engaging with clothing, games, food and rituals from cultures outside of Pakistan.
For example, every New Year’s Eve, it was customary in our home to consume a large feast of purely Filipino food, made by our caregiver, Flordeliza Sauza. Right as the clock would strike midnight, you best believe, we would be shoving Siopao, Pansit and Chicken Adobo with garlic rice into our excited, hungry mouths. Similarly, Chinese food was also a staple, especially at birthday parties and weddings. My wedding Dawat feast in Karachi included several desi Kababs, Curries and Puloas originally devised in the royal kitchens of India, but many Chinese dishes were also served, such as Chicken Manchurian, Beef Chilli, Shrimp Dumplings and Vegetable Fried Rice. This is reflective of a society that is open to global influences.
Women have been at the forefront of cultural continuity in Pakistan, as well as in the diaspora. Religiously inclined Dawats, such as the Milad and the Rasm-e-Ameen often take place in women prioritized spaces, with multi-generational guests in attendance, fostering community and togetherness. One of my favourite moments from the Milad Dawat has to do with guests being showered with delicate, soft sprinkles of rose water, while standing side by side, singing and praying in a unique moment of women's solidarity. In some Milad Dawats, guests are not only showered with droplets of Rose Water, they are also covered with petals from red roses, making the experience truly immersive and embodied.

Representation
Lebanon, 1983, by Jay Ullal ( Cairo Photo Week 2023)
This photo was mostly taken during the Lebanese civil war from 1975 to 1990, depicting a “Christian bride and Muslim groom walking through bombed Beirut, 1983” (Ullal, 2023). Jay Ulla captured the photo of a German Photographer whose pictures shed light on the humanitarian miseries and crisis in a variety of countries around the world, including India, Pakistan, Lebanon, Israel, the Philippines a myriad of other places ((Masih, 2023). This photo is an example of representation in photography. Representation is the act of using visual language to convey meaning and symbolism. It’s the number of decisions the photographer had to make to produce the photo, starting from making it a portrait or a landscape, colored or black and white, cropped, edited, or photoshopped in a certain way for a specific purpose. Representation in photography pictures the world and reflects it to the viewer as an imitation of reality by either giving a mimetic version or constructing a new reality that is not a copy of the physical reality (Sturken & Cartwright, 2003). In the photo shared above, it is evident that the photographer made a chain of decisions before taking the photo. It’s a mimetic version of the civil war in Lebanon and the destruction it created, in contrast to a bride in groom in their white wedding outfits walking between the shattered walls and the mess in the city. It’s not an ordinary scene, and the wedded don’t usually walk in the streets like that, let alone in areas that are not aesthetically pleasing and witnessed a history of armed confrontation. This example resembles the representation in the photo of Emmett Till, whose body deteriorated after a race crime, and the choice his family made to display his casket to mourners to convey meaning and tell about the reality of their tragedy (Sturken & Cartwright, 2003).
The Myth of Photographic Truth
Photo Story by Sahl Abdel Rahman (Egypt Press Photo 2023)
This photo was part of a project by Sahl Abel Rahman, where he featured kids from Harid village in Fayoum who work in the cotton field of the area. The caption and the rest of the photos of the project provide this information; however, the image alone has an entirely different meaning and interpretation that contradicts the truth behind it. It shows a kid taping on a white goat and hugging the animal while a big smile lightens his face. The photo looks like it was taken from a rural area where a kid is happy and cares for his domestic animal. The truth, however, is that the kid named Youssef bought the goat after saving for two months of working in the fields for 25 Le per day. Photography was always associated with objective seeing, as the camera takes photos of the object as it looks for evidence and illustration. The camera is not expected to lie or give a distorted and untrue image of reality, as it’s a reliable machine. However, technological advancement or even the ethical practice of the photographer is enough to lose trust in the camera (Sturken & Cartwright, 2003). I will continue to argue that the myth of photography is not only a result of photoshop and unethical practices (such as those of Timothy O'Sullivan, who moved corps and arms on battlefields (Sturken & Cartwright, 2003)), but also merges in the absence of captions that accompany the photo and provide accurate context about it. Perception can deceive; therefore, a connotative meaning that provides context is needed to avoid myth (Mistry, 2014). This results in the forming of countless myths and assumptions about a photo in the viewer’s mind, diverting them from the facts behind the photograph. If it were not for the caption, we would think the photo is about a happy kid in the countryside, while it is a victim of child labor, an alarming phenomenon in Egypt.

Way back in December 14, 2019 We celebrate our cousin's wedding at San Pedro Calungsod Chapel in Cebu, it is beautiful and historic church The chapel is known for its stunning architecture, intricate carvings, and rich cultural heritage. The interior of the chapel is adorned with beautiful stained-glass windows, intricate wood carvings, and intricate frescoes that create a warm and inviting atmosphere. The chapel's altar is the focal point of the church, surrounded by grand arches and beautifully carved columns. The intricate details and beautiful design of the altar make it a stunning backdrop for the wedding ceremony. Many people are delighted to witness my cousin walk down the aisle in her stunning white wedding gown during the wedding; my aunties, as well as my other cousins and the other guests that attend the wedding ceremony, after the wedding. We take a family photograph in the church
(San Pedro Calungsod Chapel, Cebu)

Kauai 2024, part 4
The Polihale beach is probably our favorite. The road is about 5 miles of treacherous potholes that takes at least 45 minutes to drive. Only about 5 other camp sites were taken.
Frolicking on the deserted beach.
Here is Nancy enjoying a glass of wine next to the jeep. She uses the tire as her table for the glass of wine.
Waking up in the tent parked on the beach.
Morning romp on the beach.
This is the famous Monkey Pod tree at the entrance to Polihale State Park. We will turn right here for the Queen’s Bath. I believe “Polihale” is the Hawaiian word for “pot hole.”
Queen’s bath.
Queen’s bath with the water running out.
Our faithful rooster watching as we traverse the “shimos” in the road.
This is the most famous “Shave Ice” on Kauai, “Jo Jo’s.” Personally I have had better. But that also depends on the flavors you order. So maybe it was my own fault. This shop is only a couple of doors down from the Red Dirt Shit shop.
Here she is packing the cup with “Shave Ice.” Note: It is never called “shaved”, even in the past tense.
A beautiful tree in bloom along the road.
Nancy at Poipu beach.
These are the Green turtles that come up near the Life Guard station on Poipu beach. They get out of the cold Pacific water for 30 minutes or so. Then return to the water. The Life Guards keep an eye out for tourists who get to close.
Common to see memorials along the shore for surfers who lost their lives.
We saw two different dogs checked out of the Humane Society for the day. The dogs are very socialized. The people pay $40 for a dog for the day.
We had a great lunch in Koloa.
This, “Ube” is the local favorite cookie, made from a purple colored yam. It is from the Philippines originally. I was not impressed, very bland for a cookie and tends to crumble. It does make your tongue purple!
This is the mom watching as her 9 year old daughter is jumping from the top of the cliff on the right. Grandpaw has done it, he is in the water. Dad has done it, he is on the top of the cliff. The mom has done it. Now the daughter is doing it.
Does she survive?
She survived! Here is the happy family.
This is the same beach. Cottage industry of weddings. Employing, preachers, photographers and shell blowing dude wearing a Hawaiian skirt.
Our time on the island is winding down.
Hike that we had to abort due to steep slick path. Shoes get trashed with red dirt.
Stopped at a botanical garden but the tour was already full.

The Peninsula Manila Offers Art in Resonance Afternoon Tea Featuring Benedicto "BenCab" Cabrera
After the very successful Hello Kitty 50th Anniversary Afternoon Tea last month, The Peninsula Manila is giving its guests another great reason to visit The Lobby this month with its BenCab Art in Resonance Afternoon Tea. I have always loved hanging out at the lobby of The Peninsula Manila, whether it be to meet up with friends or to enjoy a fancy merienda, so I was really excited to try out their new art-themed afternoon tea.
As a continuation of Art in Resonance, the Peninsula Hotels' global program celebrating and nurturing contemporary art, The Peninsula Manila is pleased to present a medley of art activities this June, starting with an art exhibit titled Edition of 8. This features eight site-specific tapestries by Philippine National Artist for Visual Arts, Benedicto Cabrera, a.k.a. BenCab, from his acclaimed Larawan and Sabel works which guests can enjoy and appreciate for free at the ground floor of The Peninsula Manila.
The Lobby has been a favorite meeting place for foreign guests and local residents since the hotel opened in 1976, be it for corporate executives in a hurry or for friends on the lookout for a quiet spot and a pick-me-up high tea or cup of coffee while exchanging the latest news. A perennially popular meeting spot for high society, The Lobby's focal point of interest is the glorious 12-metre "Sunburst" created by Philippine National Artist for Sculpture, Napoleon Abueva, which is set against Hong Kong-based artist Paola Dindo's sky-colored silver leaf-lined dome.
Lending additional majesty to The Lobby are two grand staircases that sweep upward to the Makati and Ayala Towers. We had our church wedding reception right here at The Peninsula Manila with its gorgeous backdrops and very elegant interiors. The Lobby is also where the classic Peninsula Afternoon Tea has become Manila's favorite and a beloved attraction for visitors since the hotel opened, offering carefully selected premium teas complemented with appetizing scones, quiches, tea sandwiches and assorted pastries.
The hotel's contemporary art program Art in Resonance has turned the entire ground floor of The Peninsula Manila into an art gallery featuring the works of Benedicto Cabrera. Originally introduced in 2019, Art in Resonance offers Peninsula guests deeply immersive experiences that promote the rich and vibrant cultural aspects of the cities in which they reside. There's no need to go all the way to the BanCab Museum in Benguet since the exhibit will be on display at The Lobby from May 22 to July 21, 2024.
You can find some of BenCab's stunning tapestries right at the front desk reception area, giving its hotel guests a colorful and dazzling welcome.
The tapestries are based on Sabel, Ben Cab's acclaimed solitary figure of a scavenger emerging from a dark landscape, and on his Larawan paintings, inspired by turn-of-the-century Philippine photographs and borne out of his nostalgia for Filipino culture while living in London.
A fruit of the collaborative efforts between BenCab Abitare Internazionale, and Moooi Carpets, some of these tapestries are a recomposition of existing works. With the aid of digital technology and printed with high-definition precision on polyamide acrylic using a Chromojet printer, the colors, textures, volume, and tones of BenCab's work are captured in their most minute detail.
This collection of limited-edition carpets by Abitare Internazionale and Moooi Carpets continue their legacy of innovation and artistry which all guests at The Peninsula Manila can enjoy.
Aside from the exhibit, there are other Art in Resonance-related experiences scheduled for hotel guests this month, including the Art in Resonance Tours for suite guests and the Art in Resonance Talks with BenCab and noted Philippine historian Ambeth Ocampo. This will be held at The Conservatory on June 23, 2024 starting 3:00pm. BenCab will talk about his search for a Filipino identity and the social and cultural context behind his work. This will then be followed by an afternoon tea buffet at 4:00pm at The Upper Lobby.
As for myself, I'm here to enjoy the BenCab Art in Resonance Afternoon Tea which is available daily at The Lobby from 2:30pm to 5:00pm until June 23. This afternoon tea set is priced at P2,888 for two persons.
It comes with your choice of premium teas for two, but you can also upgrade the afternoon tea set to include two flutes of Champagne for P4,388.
Afternoon tea is an elegant pre-evening tête-à-tête popularized in Europe with its own history and traditional ceremonies. In Manila, The Peninsula Manila is one of the best places you can experience an afternoon tea, especially with the hotel's rich history and elegant setting.
Let's start our BenCab Afternoon Tea at the bottom layer which comes with Banana Bread, Homemade Raisin Scones and Plain Scones.
This is served with lemon curd, strawberry jam and clotted cream. Slice your scones in half horizontally and place the cream or jam on top, depending on your preference. You don't have to be intimidated by the history and traditions of the afternoon tea. Feel free to enjoy this dining experience your own way.
The middle tier comes with some savory items such as the Bagnet Sisig Quiche, Grilled Crab Salad and Cheddar on Rye Loaf.
Other sandwiches here include the Smoked Duck Brioche Roll, Pulled Pork Belly with Sriracha Mayo Sandwich, Mini Pan de Sal, and lastly the Egg and Avocado Bagel. These items are quite filling so two guests can easily share these delightful sandwiches.
The top plate consists of heavenly desserts to finish off your BenCab Afternoon Tea adventure. Here you can find the Chocolate Almond Friand, Amaretto Whipped Ganache, Blueberry White Chocolate Cheesecake, Strawberry Opera, Mango Tapioca Pudding, and Coffee Baileys Macarons printed with some of the works of BenCab.
We had such a relaxing time at The Lobby enjoying our delicious afternoon tea set surrounded by BenCab's gorgeous works. The BenCab Art in Resonance Afternoon Tea will be available at The Lobby only until June 23, 2024. Make sure to catch this unique limited-edition afternoon tea experience at The Peninsula Manila by reserving your tables at 8887-2888 or by emailing them at [email protected]. See you at The Lobby!

The Artistry of Boracay Prenup Photography: Capturing Love in Paradise
Boracay, a jewel of the Philippines, is a dream destination for couples planning their pre-wedding (prenup) photoshoots. The island's stunning landscapes, vibrant culture, and magical sunsets provide an idyllic backdrop for capturing love stories. But what truly brings these stories to life is the artistry of Boracay prenup photographer. These talented professionals weave together the island's natural beauty and the couple's unique love story into breathtaking images. Let's explore the artistry that defines Boracay prenup photography.
The Magic of Boracay as a Canvas
Idyllic Beach Scenes
Boracay’s beaches, with their pristine white sands and crystal-clear waters, are a favorite setting for prenup photos. A skilled Boracay photographer knows how to use the natural elements—like the gentle waves, the soft light of sunrise, or the dramatic hues of sunset—to create ethereal images. The beach becomes a canvas where the couple’s love is painted in the colors of nature.
Tropical Gardens and Lush Greenery
Beyond the beaches, Boracay’s lush tropical gardens offer a vibrant and verdant backdrop. The rich greenery, exotic flowers, and serene pathways provide a romantic and intimate setting for photos. Photographers use these elements to craft images that feel like a walk through paradise, capturing moments of tranquility and connection.
youtube
The Art of Storytelling Through Photography
Capturing Emotions
The true artistry of a Boracay prenup photographer lies in their ability to capture genuine emotions. Whether it’s a playful moment of laughter, a tender embrace, or a shared glance, these photographers have a keen eye for the intimate exchanges that define a relationship. These candid moments tell a story of love and anticipation, creating a visual narrative that is both personal and universal.
Thematic and Styled Shoots
Many couples opt for themed or styled prenup shoots, and Boracay offers endless possibilities for creative concepts. From bohemian beach vibes to elegant resort settings, the island’s diverse locations can accommodate any theme. Boracay photographers work closely with couples to bring their vision to life, incorporating props, wardrobe choices, and unique settings to craft a cohesive and visually stunning story.
Mastery of Light and Composition
Golden Hour Magic
Boracay’s golden hour—the period shortly after sunrise and before sunset—provides perfect lighting for photography. The soft, warm light creates a magical atmosphere that enhances the romantic feel of the photos. Boracay photographers are experts at using this natural light to highlight the couple and their surroundings, producing images that glow with warmth and love.
Creative Compositions
The island’s diverse landscapes allow for creative compositions that add depth and interest to photos. From capturing reflections in shallow waters to framing the couple against dramatic cliffs or vibrant sunsets, Boracay photographers use their surroundings to craft unique and visually striking images. Their ability to see and utilize the natural elements creatively sets them apart as true artists.
The Photographer's Personal Touch
Building a Connection
A successful prenup photoshoot is built on a genuine connection between the photographer and the couple. Boracay photographers excel at making couples feel comfortable and at ease, allowing their true personalities to shine through. This connection is reflected in the photos, resulting in authentic and heartfelt images.
youtube
Post-Processing Excellence
The artistry of a Boracay prenup photographer doesn’t end with the photoshoot. Post-processing plays a crucial role in bringing the images to life. Photographers use editing techniques to enhance colors, adjust lighting, and refine details, ensuring that each photo is a masterpiece. This meticulous attention to detail in post-processing highlights the beauty of the location and the couple’s emotions.
Conclusion
The artistry of Boracay prenup photography lies in the seamless blend of natural beauty, genuine emotion, and creative vision. Boracay photographers are not just capturing images; they are telling love stories set against one of the most beautiful backdrops in the world. Their ability to harness the island’s magic, coupled with their technical skill and personal touch, results in photos that couples will cherish forever. For those planning their prenup shoot in Boracay, these photographers offer a chance to transform moments of love into timeless works of art.

Elopement Stage 1: Reality/Budget Wedding
These are the wedding theme inspirations I have pinned through the years to plan my dream wedding. This helps me to curate my own collections of ideas on virtual boards. So it's easy for me to gather and organise various pieces I like, helping me to refine and define my wedding theme over time.
But being an Australian migrant originally from the Philippines, it's undeniable that settling in a new country often means having fewer family members and relatives around. This situation is further pronounced when accompanied by a migrant partner with no family members in the same country.
While I once envisioned a grand wedding with lush green-orangey aesthetics, a sizeable guest list of 60+, beautiful card invitations, favourite photographers and videographers, and meticulously arranged flowers, reality has set in.
As one matures and considers their life status, priorities, and responsibilities, the dream wedding takes on a new perspective. Despite the initial desire for a lavish celebration, practical considerations, convenience, and a desire to minimise stress become more important.
In preparing for my wedding now, the belief that "it's only once in a lifetime, let's make the best out of it" seems less relevant. Instead, I find myself more willing to compromise for the sake of comfort and to avoid unnecessary stress and expenses. While the notion of an extravagant celebration is exciting and makes you feel VIP, the realisation dawns that a wedding is not merely a spectacle for entertainment or the satisfaction of hundreds of guests.
It is about the union of two individuals, the bride and groom, surrounded by their essential loved ones—family and close friends. Though the guest list may be small, the significance of these relationships truly matters.
Going back to the true essence of a wedding as a sacred event, not just a celebration or a gathering with abundant food and people, we have opted for an elopement. In this context, elopement allows up to 30 chosen guests to witness the ceremony in an intimate setting, emphasising the privacy we both desire.
How to Elope in Australia?
The main requirement for eloping in Australia is to hire an authorised marriage celebrant to conduct your wedding and take care of the essential legal documentation. Besides that, everything is flexible, allowing you to add your personal touches to make this day, weekend, or week unique.
The good thing is Eloping has no strict rules, so you can customise your celebration as per your preferences, including deciding when to exchange the "I do" vows. However, to make your marriage official, you must address three legal aspects.
To legally elope in Australia,
You must complete a Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) at least one month before your wedding date,
Provide the necessary identification as requested by your celebrant and
Attend your wedding ceremony, where you'll repeat the necessary vows and sign the marriage register.
We have yet to do all of these - we aim to do the wedding around September to mid-October, as these are the best seasons (Spring) in Australia to have it.
2. Presently, I am considering two options, both located far from the bustling city: Mountain View Farm in Tilba Tilba, NSW and Chapel Hill Retreat. Both venues offer generous packages that align well with our budget constraints. I have already sent an email to them inquiring about their services. In the meantime, these are their offers that really captured my eye.
A. Mountain View Farm in Tilba Tilba NSW - Everlasting Daisies Wedding Package
What I love - All inclusive elopement packages are available from $8,000 including a celebration for up to 25 guests with: - Celebrant - Photography - Wedding Singer - Flowers - Gourmet grazing table & drinks - Limited mid-week & weekend dates - Accommodation available
What I take consider - The venue is a 5-hour journey, and it's strongly advised that guests stay overnight. While accommodations are provided for 14 guests, with 25 guests attending, some may need to return home the same day, and others may need to check into a nearby hotel for the night.
B. Chapel Hill Retreat
What I love is that Chapel Hill Retreat in Berambing is the top wedding reception venue in the region, offering a stunning setting amidst lush greenery and picturesque views. It takes 1.5 hours journey and Ideal for Sydneysiders seeking a country wedding or an elopement. It is also very flexible, having accommodation that can cater to more than 25 guests.
What I need to consider is that I have to find my own celebrant, photographer, and live music, which adds up to the cost, whereas, in Tilba Tilba, NSW that already includes in $8,000AUD.
Below are the Elopement Packages they have. I like the Elopement Two Package, but I'm curious how much that would be. They still need to post the prices of each package, and I am keen to know so I can determine how much of the budget we should have ready in case.
...Planning my dream wedding has evolved from a vision of grandeur to a more practical and meaningful approach. My current location and support system available have influenced my decision to opt for a smaller, more intimate elopement.
The journey has just begun!!! and with inquiries sent and considerations in progress, I eagerly anticipate the next steps in planning this practical yet memorable wedding. As the details unfold, this is just the initial phase in a journey that bounds to reach its destination and the significant moments and choices that will shape the beginning of our lifelong journey together.

UC mass wedding of 1,000 couples probed for recruiting prostitutes, nannies
Philippine Daily Inquirer MANILA by Bobby Timonera 1996
Wedding bells set off the alarm. Did the grooms offer to have and to hold their brides or did they offer them jobs? This is what the Bureau of Immigration is trying to find out after the “mass wedding” held last January 23 between mostly South Korean men and nearly 1,000 Filipino women. The exchange of “I dos,” the bureau suspects, may be an operation to illegally recruit domestic helpers and prostitutes. Immigration Commissioner Leandro I. Verceles Sr. said his office will observe with “extreme caution” in approving the departure of the Filipino brides. He also ordered investigations into the suspicious weddings. “This could be a case of mail-order-bride-in-reverse operation which is illegal under our laws,” the commissioner said. The mass wedding of 984 couples at the Philippine International Convention Center was supposed to be only a religious rite and thus has no legal effect, Verceles pointed out.
Moonies It was under the auspices of the Seoul-based Holy Spirit Association for the Unification of World Christianity whose members are also known as the “Moonies.” They are named after the controversial Rev. Sun Myung Moon of South Korea, leader of the church. The Rev. Chung-hwan Kwak, representing Moon, blessed the couples, which included people from the United States, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, Japan, but mostly South Korea. Verceles said the Koreans probably came over for the wedding ceremony when immigration agents at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) prevented 300 Filipino women from departing last month. They claimed to be members of the same church as the “Moonies”. Verceles dispatched immigration agents to the wedding site to gather the names of the couples. At the same time, he also alerted immigration personnel at the NAIA to prevent the brides from leaving while investigations are being conducted. Citing an intelligence report from the Department of Foreign Affairs, Verceles said that the “Moonies” had previously sponsored the recruitment of a large number of Filipino women to work in Korea. The same report said that late last year, 184 Filipinas were brought to Korea aboard a chartered plane. They were reportedly brought to a training center where they were housed for three days before being deployed as domestic helpers and prostitutes. The Unification church said it had no immediate comment.
Not first time It was the second mass wedding conducted in Manila by the said church. Last year, 1995, about 3,000 Filipinos were married in a basketball gym in Manila as part of a mass wedding performed by Moon via satellite from Seoul. They were among 360,000 couples married worldwide in that ceremony. “Originally, the blessing was available only to adherents of the Unification Church,” a statement from the group said. “Now, however, anyone wanting to (can) participate, regardless of religion, race or nationality.”
Prison term
… Moon, a South Korea native, served 13 months in a U.S. federal prison on charges of tax evasion [and document forgery] before being released in 1985. …

Moonies demanded $2,000 from Koreans who wanted to have Filipinas as “housemaids and sex partners.”
Philippine Daily Inquirer MANILA by Bobby Timonera 1995 Farmers’ daughters are Moonie targets The Moonies are combing the Philippine countryside in search of farmers’ daughters to lure into their trap. One such innocent, Carlita, who is in her 20s, was lucky to get away. Carlita, her face covered with a towel, occasionally lapsed into tears and silence as she told reporters of her ordeal. This is her story. Sometime in November, the sect’s recruiters arrived at Carlita’s village in Nueva Ecija and asked the women if they would be interested in marrying Koreans. Photographs of Korean men were passed around. “OK, we’ll see if we get to like them,” the women said. They were told to attend a seminar at the sect’s church in Cabanatuan City. It was supposedly about the “ideal family.” Later, they were asked to wear nice clothing, were made up, and photographed. Then they were told that should authorities ask them about their marriage plans, they should answer that they have been writing to and talking with the Korean men over the phone for some time. Of the four women recruited, only three were matched with Koreans. One was apparently dropped. One day the women were invited to go to the church’s office in Manila in the company of Korean men. Along the way, the Koreans embraced them. Suddenly afraid, Carlita and another woman alighted from the vehicle near the Nepa Q-Mart market along Edsa in Quezon City. Carlita being a daughter of one of the peasant leaders of the Demokratikong Kilusang Magbu-bukid ng Pilipinas (DKMP), the other woman rushed to the DKMP office to report the incident. But their friend who was left behind was brought to the Unification Church’s headquarters at 32 Samar Avenue in Quezon City. It was this woman who told peasant leader Jaime Tadeo of the DKMP that a Caucasian, whose nationality she did not know, asked the Koreans to pay him $2,000. It was not known if the amount was payment for the recruitment job. But it jibed with a report from the Philippine Embassy in Seoul that the Moonies usually demand $2,000 from Koreans who wanted to have “housemaids and sex partners.” The transaction appears to be part of the sect’s fund-raising campaign. Tadeo, along with Carlita, went to the Bureau of Immigration office in Intramuros to seek its help in closing the Holy Spirit Association for the Unification of World Christianity in Cabanatuan City.
“We believe they are just using their church as a front for illegal recruitment,” Tadeo said.
_________________________________ Korean UC leaders made lots of money from “selling” hundreds of pure, faithful, Filipino sisters
Morpheus: “I was on a staff that helped organize picture matchmaking in the late 1990s. Rev. Moon would come in and match all these young Filipino sisters to older Korean men who were not even members. I’m not sure Rev. Moon was aware of the wheeling and dealing that would go on behind the scenes. Many of these farmers and land owners would mortgage their farm to be admitted to these picture matchings. The Philippine Government complained. Discovered later that Korean leaders made lots of money this way.” (April 22, 2015)
