Tanker Truck Fire Causes Section of Northbound I-95 to Collapse in Philadelphia
Img Source: https://media.cnn.com/api/v1/images/stellar/prod/230611111554-03-philadelphia-interstate-fire-collapse-0611.jpg Philadelphia, PA - A section of northbound I-95 in Philadelphia has collapsed after a tanker truck caught fire underneath the highway, according to Philadelphia officials. The incident, which occurred on Sunday morning, has caused significant damage and disruption to the area. During a news conference, Derek Bowmer, battalion chief for the Philadelphia Fire Department, confirmed the collapse and stated that the southbound side of the highway has also been compromised by heavy fire. Firefighters are currently engaged in battling the blaze. The explosions near the collapsed highway were likely caused by the runoff of fuel or gas lines that were potentially compromised during the accident. Photographs and videos from the scene depict large plumes of smoke billowing from the interstate, highlighting the severity of the situation. The mayor's office has confirmed that a large tanker truck fire was the cause of the collapse. As a result, the affected area has been closed in both directions, and the fire is now under control. Dominick Mireles, director of Philadelphia's Office of Emergency Management, acknowledged the prolonged recovery efforts that lie ahead. He emphasized the extensive impact on the community, particularly due to the loss of the northbound section of I-95, and expressed his expectation that the incident would cause significant disruptions for an extended period. Tumar Alexander, managing director for the City of Philadelphia, echoed these sentiments during the news conference, emphasizing that the impact on I-95 would be long-lasting. The investigation into the incident is being led by the fire marshal and other partners, as authorities work to determine the cause and assess the extent of the damage. In light of the situation, the Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management has urged travelers to avoid the affected area and find alternative routes. Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney took to social media to express his gratitude to the first responders, acknowledging the dangerous and life-saving work they perform to ensure the safety of residents and visitors. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro has been briefed on the collapse and is closely coordinating with various agencies involved in the response. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg also offered assistance from the US Department of Transportation to aid in the recovery and reconstruction efforts. As of now, there have been no reports of injuries resulting from the incident. The investigation and recovery operations are ongoing, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available. Read the full article

That’s a scary place to be and I know with Mental Health Awareness Month it’s a real thing,” Kulp said. “I owe a lot of debt to the people that encouraged me and kept me going.” While not cooking himself, as co-founder of Highstreet Hospitality Group, Kulp is still involved in his restaurants. But the industry was hit hard by COVID-19 so he is sharing his story of survival and renewal. In this new format, Kulp is celebrating Philadelphia’s restaurant scene and encouraging others to find ways to cope during the difficult days of COVID-19. “It’s really about life and the challenges that many of us have to go through,” Kulp said.
