This was intended to be an entirely different style but I got to looking at it and realized how neatly my petroglyph style fit inside the lines I was working on. I think this is the most G-rated blood I've made.

#MonotremeMonday:
Echidna petroglyph, 90cm
from the 'Echidna and Fish' site at West Head in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, NSW, Australia
“It is difficult to date the echidna engraving using current scientific techniques, particularly as there is no soil covering it. Dating is also difficult because re-grooving sometimes occurs during later ceremonies. However the style of the drawing, known as 'simple figurative', and its state of preservation suggests it was made in the last few thousand years. The simple figurative style is confined to the region.”

A weirdo moose-ship rockcarving mug! Quite inspired by the stoneage petroglyphs at Nämforsen (Sweden). This one is sold but I'm working on some new petro-mugs now actually. If you want to be notified of my shop updates, here's a link to my email list :)

El Morro National Monument | The oasis at El Morro has attracted humans for 1000+ years. The petroglyphs left by the Puebloans inspired a tradition continued by each successive wave of people passing by, w/each leaving a chiseled guest log on the walls of the mesa. There are more than 2,000 inscriptions and petroglyphs.

Petroglyph (rock carving) of a deer from Gullickson’s Glenn in Jackson County, Wisconsin. Findings suggest that Native Americans were occupying the rockshelter as long as 2,000 years ago, although the petroglyphs probably do not date farther back than 800 years ago. Excavations at the site have uncovered remnants of Middle Woodland and Oneota occupancy.
