Look, i know this took me awhile, but i'm back on the marauders era trend and I will be here to stay for awhile! Send me prompts or send me whatever you want and please let's keep this ship sailing<3

i'm not sure how much i like this one but I hope you do like it as much as i did writing it. I might need to practice more but here it is, my fic after awhile.

He was rolling his eyes as Marlene went over the top once again convincing Lily about James’ qualities as they sat at the Gryffindor table for dinner. Sirius swears the blonde doesn’t know this thing called subtlety, the red-haired girl looks at her bestfriend amusedly though. “How much did Potter even pay you to say all of these, Marls?” The head girl chuckled with a shake of her head. Marlene pouted. “What? I just think it will be nice for you to actually give James a chance, it has been seven years after all, Lils!” The other beater of the Gryffindor team argued. “McKinnon, honestly, I think Evans could have said yes all those years ago, quit it.” Both the witches looked at the raven-haired wizard with a look of surprise, even Remus and Peter whipped their heads at Sirius.

The blonde’s expression changed from surprised to annoyance. “Aren’t you supposed to back up your best mate on this?” She challenged but all Sirius did was shrug. “They’re both old enough to make decisions for themselves.” Soon, James Potter himself took a seat next to Sirius, fresh from shower. The Gryffindor Quidditch captain always takes his time during days that they have practice and comes in late. “What are we talking about?” The headboy asked. “Nothing…” Lily answered off handedly and focused on her plate, avoiding James’ eyes. Sirius immediately changed the subject to other things and the evening went on as usual. The rest of the students all filed out the Great Hall going in different directions as the dinner comes to a close. “Are you coming?” Lily asked Marlene as Mary and Dorcas were already standing up. The blonde remained seated as if taking her sweet time finishing her treacle tart. “Nah, I’ll see you all up in the tower.” The redhead looked at the blonde with suspicion but didn’t say anything else. “Okay…See you later then.” 

The marauders are usually the last ones to leave the Gryffindor table as well and Marlene has been giving Sirius dirty looks the whole evening. “Stop glaring at me.” The animagus told her as he finally took a seat next to her, now that her friends are no longer around, his back leaning back on the table. “I think it’s time for us to be going too…” Remus said standing up and looking around the almost empty Great Hall. “You guys go on ahead. Blondie here needs some one on one.” Sirius said with a mischievous grin which earned him another glare from the lioness. “You two had been spending way too much time together lately.” James mused but stood up as well ready to go with Remus and Peter. “Catch you later, Pads.” Sirius just nodded at his friends and focused his attention on Marlene again. 

“What the fuck was that, Black?” the witch snarled as soon as their friends are all gone. “What?” he asked innocently. “We agreed we will speed things up for those two already.” She huffed. “Your tactic is clearly not working, I suggest we do the opposite and let Lily realize what she has been missing by acting nonchalant about it.” Sirius stated. The suggestion made sense but Marlene had doubts about it, afterall, she was very much into this little project they started a few weeks ago. Sure, it started with just some drunken conversation about how better it will be if James and Lily will just get on with it and snog already, that way they won’t have to watch them throwing each other those looks of longing. They also agreed that if the two actually started dating maybe it will help James relax on the pitch too which will be beneficial for both of them. Being both beaters of the team, they’re the most extensively worked during practice.

However, during those weeks that they have conspired to bring the two closer, Marlene had sensed something changing in her too. Sirius Black had always been gorgeous, everyone with two working eyes can see that but she never really paid that much attention, he was afterall never settled down and flirts as much as he can especially if it works on his favor. He was just a friend, a housemate, and her partner at the pitch. But the more she looks at his stormy eyes and the way he leans in to whisper another sneaky plan to get their bestfriends together, Marlene finds herself having butterflies fluttering in the pit of her stomach. She didn’t even want to acknowledge it. He is Sirius bloody Black for merlin’s sake. But then, no one has control on how they’d feel right? “So, are you saying we should stop then with this?” Marlene asked. 

“That’s not what I said, what i said is we should change our plan of attack.” Sirius said with mirth in those grey orbs as he meet her blue ones. As much as she hated to admit it, there was relief she felt deep inside. This means she still has an excuse to spend time with him and that alone made her smile. “Okay, fine…let’s do it your way, but if this fails, we’ll do it my way again, yeah?” She told him, her usual bossy tone apparent. Sirius chuckled and nodded. “Yeah, yeah, whatever, McKinnon. We already know your plans don’t work.” He teased and she hit his arm playfully which made the wizard laugh. What she didn’t know was Sirius had already let go of this notion that they can even get those two together. Lily can be very stubborn even though everyone can already see her softening up to James. The once Black heir was just continuing the pretense so that he can actually spend more time with Marlene. The girl never gave him the time of the day in the past. Always treating him as just another bloke she conversed with, to say that she had friendzoned him was an understatement and he had been wondering for years why. When they came up with this plan, Sirius saw the chance to actually get close and somehow learn why she never seem to even look at him with interest. Not that it’s the only reason why she caught his eye too. Marlene has always been a looker, but she also has the wit and that athleticism that she puts to good use in quidditch that just renders anyone spellbound including him. 

“Ready to go up?” He asked, looking at her plate with food she probably won’t be eating anymore. “Yeah…” She nodded with a smile. “Alright.” Sirius got up, offering his hand to help her to her feet. It was not something he usually does and Marlene also looked at the hand that was offered with a pleasant surprise on her face. “Developing manners, Black?” The blonde teased with a quirk of her brow but took his hand nevertheless. “Don’t get used to it.” He bantered back, liking how her hands felt soft on his. Now on her feet, she expected for him to let her hand go but he didn’t. Instead, he continued holding her hand, gently intertwining their fingers together and Marlene’s ears felt hot as she felt herself blush. It’s really happening, Sirius Black was holding her hand. “You mind?” He asked, looking at her with an expression that was so foreign on his face. She had never seen him like this, almost unsure and afraid she will say that she does mind. “No…it’s fine.” She assured him, giving his hand a soft squeeze. They exchanged shy smiles, which both are never known for and headed for the door. Maybe this could be the start of something new for the two lions.

Getting Inspired

After researching camera movements, compositions and equipment as well as analysing existing adverts then selecting one to base my own advert from, it was time to star thinking about what the video would look like, what I needed to make it happen and what I want the final video to look like visually.

I thought about making the advert quick and snappy which would be inspired by Peter McKinnon who creates cinematic shots and short videos on YouTube using this technique. It creates a sense of pace, the cuts between shots are sharp and usually the depth of field is shallow or the focus shifts onto the subject in frame throughout each shot.

Another video I came across was by The Slanted Lens who covered different camera movements and techniques within cinematography, and how these can create a narrative and enhance a video. They also covered the lighting and other equipment used, such as studio lights, soft boxes, gimbles and sliders.

Something else to consider for this advert is colour grading and how this will impact the final video. Colour grading is an important part of colour management and most often applied during post production, it is used to create atmosphere or a specific mood according to colour theory.

MARLENE MCKINNON - When it comes to family, Marlene McKinnon is one of the first people that comes to mind. The two of them had been best friends since childhood, and Marlene had become the sister James had never wanted but always needed. He had always been the calming force in Marlene’s storm. He could always count on Marlene to come through for him, no matter the circumstances. She was without a doubt, someone he trusted implicitly.

LILY EVANS - The relationship he had with Lily grew and changed over the years. Throughout their years at school, James had mostly viewed Lily as one of the boys. She had been the fifth member of their pack so to speak, and James hadn’t wanted to do anything to jeopardize their friendship. They had always been good at challenging each other with friendly competition, but always pulling through one another. However, after graduation, something distinctly changed between them. What started as a bastardized version of friends with benefits turned into a relationship with genuine feelings. Their relationship had only grown stronger over the years, and James knew that wanted to spend the rest of his life with her.

MOMENTS

Even as a child, James understood that he was luckier than most. His parents were both raised in progressive pureblooded homes, and took those ideals even further in raising their son. Euphemia and Fleamont Potter were undeniably feminists at heart, and raised James under such principals. James was his parents' whole world though, and while his father was an inventor, his mother was a famous Quidditch player and coach. He loved watching the practices of the Holyhead Harpies, and he was particularly fond of cheering at their games on the side lines. James’ favorite games were the ones that his Aunt Minerva came to, but that was only because she yelled as loudly as he did. James was only eight when he realized he was probably the luckiest kid in the world. 

Eleven years old and James was buzzing with excitement when he got on the train to Hogwarts. Having already made a friend, he was thrilled when he ended up with a whole compartment of them by the end of the ride. A mixed bag they were, but James has a gut feeling the five of them would be in it for the long haul. As if fate had stepped in, they ended up in the same house, and James knew he had been right. If he saw a twinkle of pride in McGonagal’s eye, well he could only preen just a little. By the end of his first year, James and his friends had made a name for themselves, literally, and ended up causing more trouble than most students did throughout their entire Hogwarts career. Eleven years old and James was certain this was where he was meant to be. 

By sixth year, everything had changed and yet fallen into place for James. Over the summer, Sirius and his two charges had come to live with them full time, and James was officially no longer an only child. Adapting to having Sirius, Regulus, and Narcissa around was surprisingly easy. Most of the summer was spent with an open door policy to the rest of their friends too, particularly around full moons when the self proclaimed Marauders would make the trip to the Potter’s cabin for privacy and security. It was also around that point that he had started thinking seriously about what kind of career he truly wanted. Becoming a hit wizard involved the right amount of adrenaline, action, and satisfied his slight hero complex. At sixteen, James was pretty sure he had things figured out. 

Joining the Order right out of Hogwarts was a no brainer. James knew that staying quiet was taking the side of the oppressor, and he knew he never wanted to be that. After spending several years as a hit wizard, James took a career turn, and just in the nick of time it seemed. Taking a seat in Wizgonment, James put himself in prime position to start helping create and dismantle laws. However, just when he thought they might be making progress, the world took a dark turn. The werewolf attack had kicked it all into gear and before they could even recover from that, Rodolphus had won the election. James had been filled with rage when the rights of one his best mates were stripped almost immediately. His new position hadn’t even helped prevent that, as it came straight from the ministers office, and not even gone through Wizgonment. As if that wasn’t enough, the news came that they were betrayed by one of their own and James felt as though ice cold water had been doused over him. James was beyond livid that Peter had done something he considered almost unfathomable. It made James question if the friendships he had were truly as unbreakable as they seemed, and how they had missed the signs. On top of that, the Order nearly went under, especially when the news that Alastor was locked up in Azkaban, but it didn’t. Lily had called an emergency meeting, and James watched with a sense of pride and dread as she stepped up to head the Order. Almost instinctively, he moved to stand behind her; if she was going to risk her neck, he was going to ensure he had her back.

10 Tips for Taking Your Vlogging to the Next Level

In our recent ​Creative Hustle video series, ​PetaPixel​ challenged two photographers, ​Steven John Irby​ and ​Nate Luebbe​, to vlog their way through 24-hour photo challenges. This meant the photographers needed to not only be the star of the show, but also the directors and producers too. For photographers interested in giving vlogging a whirl and becoming the next Peter McKinnon, here are 10 things we learned from the Creative Hustle vlogging experience…

#1. Learn classical narrative structure

If you can tell a good story, you’ll be able to create a good vlog. Generally speaking, classical narrative structure involves a beginning (a hero sets off on a quest); a middle (the hero suffers setbacks) and an ending (a dramatic conclusion where the hero overcomes the odds and achieves victory). If you can adopt this structure into your vlogs, you will create winners.

#2. Give yourself a quest

Giving yourself a creative photo challenge is the perfect ‘quest’. It positions you as the hero and all the problems you encounter will only serve to heighten the drama. In Nate’s vlog, he states his desire to shoot the northern lights early on but he is at the mercy of the bad weather. At the end of the vlog, the weather clears, and he managed to get the shot in a dramatic conclusion.

#3. Shoot, shoot, shoot

The more you shoot, the more options you’ll have for when you’re cutting the video. Whether it’s b-roll or a seemingly unimportant detail – you’ll be grateful for the options in post. But don’t worry, with experience you’ll soon develop an instinct for shooting the right stuff.

#4. Timelapses

Timelapses are a tool you can use to transport between scenes or locations. Don’t just throw these in randomly, it’ll ruin the flow – rather use them strategically to move the story along.

#5. Find fun ways to tell your stories

Little editing tricks can make all the difference. Whether it’s clapping to ‘magically’ add clothes, appearing twice in one frame or teleporting from one side of the frame to the other – there are plenty of fun editing tricks that your audience will appreciate.

#6. Gear

Sony hooked us up with the Sony RX100V and it was superb. After our experience, we agreed the 4 key criteria for a good vlogging camera would be: a flip screen; speedy autofocus; 4k footage and as light as possible. The RX100V checked all these boxes and even in freezing conditions in Norway, never gave us a problem.

#7. Tripod

Although holding the camera selfie-style has its place, it’s a tough watch for a whole vlog. A light tripod and one of those GorillaPods are essential for giving you the freedom to move around.

#8. Forget perfection

Perfection is not realistic when vlogging – there will be rough edges. Just do your best to nail the shot and cut down on “fixing it in post” as much as possible — top vloggers pump out multiple videos a week. So focus on developing a workflow that is not too draining and find the right line between quality and quantity.

#9. Find your thing

You need to consider what value you are offering. Are you a naturally funny person or do you have lots of tips to share? Are you aiming for a blend of ‘Edutainment’? Experiment to see what works with your personality and look to build your vlogging game around that.

#10. Personality and energy

Perhaps the hardest part of the whole game: your on-screen persona. This will get easier with experience and you will begin to feel more comfortable in front of the camera. However, again this is really up to you to find the right energy that your audience can connect with and let your true personality show.
